I was here before to give my set of clothes. Some from shein, garage, TNA, and others. They sent me a text when clothes were ready for pick up, took about 1-1.5h. They didn't take any of my clothes, guess it's not what's "in", which is okay. I go around here from time to time to spot some nice deals on clothes from Aritzia / Lulu. I noticed quite a lot of poorly used clothes on the rack and even with holes and rips. You really have to ensure the clothes are in good enough condition to your liking before purchasing. They do offer refund anyway just in case within 7 days, clearance items are final though so make the right decision. I have purchased a few great deals from here. I think it's a nice place to get second hand or even brand new items when you get lucky. So many lightly used but you just have to be patient and go through stuff, eventually you'll find nice ones. Quick tip on white clothes - check collar area and underarms to ensure no discolouration. Darker colour clothes - I don't know about you but I dislike deodorant / lotion marks when I pick it up from the rack. Just a random thought! I will continue coming here once in a while just to snatch some good deals especially when they have promos! read more

minus $ stars, too worn, smells like smoke(i dont even smoke and have also sometimes been straight out of the dryer to the store and thats it) stains or rips, "not whats in style" ( other thean the fact i only boughgt it 2 weeks prior to bringing it to this store...all high end brands,example,, guess, ck, coach,michael kors, nike , reebok ect.. yet they have brands fro, like giant tiger and walmart cause no offence but cause those are high and brands. and lastly i have taken in 15 clothing items neatly folded and when it was returned to me only had 12items and it was all just thrown in to the duffle bag not even could they fold it back up but to not get back the same amount of things at the end of it all...... this store needs a review from there head office :( read more

I usually donate my clothing to Salvation Army but decided to give Plato's Closet a try. This is a super convenient location as it's right off highway 404 and the plaza next to Costco. I didn't have time to browse but it is quite a large store filled with clothing both inside and with a couple clothing racks outside as well. I came with a small bin of clothing. There's a huge bottle of hand sanitizer right inside the first set of doors that they ask you use before entering. A sign by the counter indicates that bins be put there and staff will ask if you've been there before or not. Since I'd never been they took my cellphone number and I was texted a link to fill out a form. Once signed a reciept is printed and attached to your bin. The staff told me I'd be contacted in about an hour, once everything was sorted. I received a tex to see one of their staff. At the other counter I told them my name and she told me that unfortunately they would not be taking any of my items. I guess my clothing isn't current enough. Ah well. read more

Treasure hunters delight. This newly opened store(Nov 2017)is the cleanest and most modern for a consignment type store. I've popped in to consignment store from Kensington Market, queen st and just local stuff so I'm used to the chaos of stuff but not here. It's got nice and bright lighting, good music, well organized size/colour, really nice staff, the aisles actually smell like clean clothes due to the tide like fragrance lingering on the clothes. You won't feel grossed out shopping here(unlike value village where one wonders how sanitary it is there or touching anything) as it feels like you could be in a store in the mall. Mind you this is how Once Upon a Child stores start, neat, clean and organized but a year later it's exploding with product and got dusty fast so we will see. Prices- fantastic! $10-30 for used brand name jeans ( saw rock & republic, super dry, guess, to joe fresh) Misc items- almost new so 90% full cologne, lotions and such also for sale or for trade in. Return policy- great, keep receipt and 7 days to return refund/exchange (unless it's bathing suit bottoms) Tip -pants get altered so check length or try on soon. -12-3 is their busiest time any day of week so if you're selling come early. read more

Unfortunately this morning, a fire destroyed my clothes (family, cats, and house are all fine thankfully) and the folks on site today were kind, accommodating, and very sweet to my mom and I. Zero stars. Zero customer service. Zero management, Zero! The review by Nathalie S. on 2019-01-05 is dead on and 4 years later the experience is still the same. AVOID this joint at all costs. Not sure who the owners are but they need to witness first-hand these unknowledgeable teenage kids in action. This store should actually be featured on Undercover Boss because it's so pathetically sad and bad. It would seem these clerks don't know or appreciate style or quality unless it's a Lulu Lemon tag. They make a judgement about your looks and/or age and then it doesn't matter what clothes are in your bag. This happened today with a large bag of clothes...all gently cared for, clean and folded, some new with tags and they didn't even bother to look at clothes in the middle and bottom of the bag because everything was still folded the same. This is the 2nd experience at this Richmond Hill location, identical to the 1st visit and it's never going to happen again. Don't waste your time or $ here, they just accept and flog cheap crap. Consider Poshmark where there's nice people wanting to buy your nice stuff at your price. read more

I have come to discover that shopping at Plato's Closet is one of the most unpleasant and discriminating charitable/shopping experiences to be had. A few disturbing findings from my visit at the Richmond Hill location. Discovery 1: There is no "style guide". Depending on the staff, and their initial interaction with you, they come to decide what they prefer. Interaction initially starts with what can only be described as "talking down," criticizing the donor of bringing freshly cleaned and folded clothing in plastic bags. Discovery 2: Though the store promises to review all articles received, very often, depending on Discovery 1 (whether or not they like you) or the quantity which you bring in-you can receive the bad end of the stick. Where they sort of open the top of the bag and laxidazily "rifle" though it. I have watched this happen more than once now at this location as well as the Newmarket location. It's disrespectful to the customer who sometimes has to be waitlisted for hours and returns with clothing virtually "undisturbed". Discovery 3: During my most recent visit to this location, while waiting and looking at clothing on display, I discovered my unique jacket which I donated about a month earlier. However upon closer inspection, the brand tag on the collar had been cut out (with some of the frayed original tag still remaining on the back). Essentially repurposed the "Danier" tag to "Forever 21". Rebranded to better suit Plato's Closet clientele, teenagers. I don't get the purpose of this, as it is an expensive jacket. When mentioned to one of the staff, I was responded to evasively. Discovery 4: Pricing is f***ed. During the "grand finale" of receiving my clothing, asked what seemed to be one of the younger managers why 95% of what I brought was rejected. I was met with a consistent mention of my clothing being "dirty" when it was freshly cleaned, and of high end brands such as Marciano, Rudsack, J Crew, and more. I'm gonna pop in Plato's Only got twenty dollars in my pocket I, I, I'm hunting, looking for a come up This is supremely awesome ^ was my anthem entering Plato's today. I had high hopes after seeing my friend's trendy finds from her most recent haul, and my own visit didn't disappoint. Usually, I have to be in a serious shopping mood to dig through the hordes of unwanted items at Value Village or Salvation Army, but shopping at Plato's was hassle-free. Clothes are organized and sometimes even colour co-ordinated. (However, I wish they had signs/ a map to tell you at the end of the row instead of having to walk through). Anyway, it's not hard to find something (or a few things!) to leave with. It had a great selection of stuff (whether name brand or ordinary; new or pre-loved). Plato's is home to clothes, shoes, jewelry, bags, creams, makeup, socks, and even phone cases. Being that many of their items are new/"designer", I'd say the prices are more like shopping at Winners than at a traditional thrift shop. At the check-out, I signed up for their free loyalty program - 1 point for every $10 you spend, to unlock future discount offers and birthday offers. New spot that opened up right next to home and being a fanatic of thrift shops but hating the dirtiness of some of them.. this is a great spot for me. They do a great job hyping the new gear they get on their instagram; they definitely spend a bit of time on it and it gets people going. They advertise their popular stuff - blue jays jerseys, MK bags, kate spade clutches etc. Going in, I was surprised at how organized it was. Literally colour by colour, style by style. Not a hair was out of place. The clothes were so clean and had absolutely nothing wrong with them too, other than a few weird rangled ones here and there. The staff are VERY friendly and care a lot about the store and it's business. I overheard the shift supervisor training her staff and she was very thorough and passionate about the way the store operated, giving instructions on what clothes to buy and reject. Yes, you can sell your old clothes here! Now, you're not going to be given a whole lot of $ - they will buy your clothes at a very low price because they are still selling it at a relatively low price - business gotta make profit, right? But if you're looking for a quick way of getting rid of clothes that you'd donate anyway, this is your spot. They are very selective on what they buy, as they gotta make sure it sells. You get $ on the spot anyway, regardless of it selling or not. But because they are so selective, it gives a pro and con - pro being, if you're a buyer, you will always see new-ish, fashionable, NOT ratchet clothes. If you're the seller, you might not be able to sell your entire bag that you hauled over. The store has a lot of variety - I saw lululemons, calvin klein sweats (HAD TO COP THESE), blue jays gear (even NEW socks, shirts etc) and TONS of stuff.. seriously I think I saw half my closet here. For half the price. That's rough, man. If you dig, you will indeed find yourself a great deal. Some items are not worth it (kate spade here is very overpriced - they sell purses for the same price you can get a new one on sale at the outlet mall) but some pieces are GOLD, aka I bought a nike blue jays shirt for $8 ayyyy. Oh and you can return your stuff up to 7 days after you bought it, with tags on and receipt - that's something you don't come across in thrift stores. Unless you are in high school trying to sell your clothes, don't bother wasting your time bringing your clothes to this place to sell. The girls picking out what they buy are all under 20 and don't really know what is in "style" unless it's for girls and not women. I mean, if you're going to work at a clothing store that purchases as well as sells, shouldn't the store have buyers with more fashion sense than an oversized poser band tee and baggy boyfriend jeans? Great selection here and always lots of new inventory coming in daily. My first trip here, they paid me $124 for 28 items, the majority of which were athletic wear which they love. Especially Lululemon ($3-$4 per piece) and Nike and hooded sweatshirts which they find always sells well with their young clientele. Best tip I can give is to follow their Instagram account to be alerted of cool finds by staff which you can put on hold for pick up (varies by store location) and to take advantage of the trade-in option if you have anything to sell just don't be upset if they refuse to buy your clothing as they only purchase styles that will sell and will only give you approximately 30% of what they will price it for in store. ps the staff here are extremely energetic and friendly, and not to mention super photogenic. read more

Came here for the first time today. Had a pleasant experience. Staff is informative, friendly, and nice. Dropped off 4 large bags of items and they only placed an offer for 27 items (mainly jewellery). Received an offer of $52.72 for all 27 items (~$1.95 per item). I think most tops/skirts was priced at $2 and f21 jewellery $1 or less. I think the highest item was $4 for a pair of Juicy Couture Earrings. Its unfortunate they didn't take more but that's how the business model works, but it saves time vs selling on apps like Carousell. They were also overstocked on sweaters which I brought a lot in so they didn't accept any of them. Would be nice if they could have sorted which would be ok to bring back when they needed stock vs items they absolutely would not take but that's ok! Going to try to bring the stuff in again in August per the staffs recommendation. Very glad that the location is very close to my house and it's great way to get a bit of money back for some items you no longer need. Definitely would return. read more

Brought in a ton of stuff with my girlfriend today and they took a single pair of pants for $3.60 THERE WAS TWO MASSIVE BINS FILLED WITH GARAGE ARITZIA AMERICAN EAGLE AEROPOSTLE AND A TON OF GOOD BRANDS. They chose a single pair of pants. IT TOOK THEM AN HOUR TO DECIDE TO CHOOSE THAT PAIR LIKE WTF.... all in all. Waste of time, definitely could've sold those pants for like 5 bucks to someone online as well. I recommend using let go if you are trying to see anything. Have a good day. read more

Went to go sell my clothes here at the one off 32nd ave. Not worth it, they didn't take anything except 3 old shirts when I had much better quality items. I even called ahead to ask what brands they accepted. They took none of those which I brought in. I opted to donate the remainder of the clothes and my husband told me I shouldn't have done that as they most likely take the clothes out of donation to sell after you leave so they don't have to pay you, probably true. Going into this place I had high hopes of not only exchanging clothes, but also giving clothes. They told me to bring in as many clothes, shoes, and purses as I wanted. I brought in several bags to give and they ended up only keeping one or two pairs of shoes....Meanwhile the people in line in front of me doing the same thing got $40-$60 for one or two small bags. The lady that helped me was really rude. She kept rolling her eyes at me when I asked questions and acted like she was really annoyed to be speaking with me. The wait times took so long even though there were 5 or 6 girls working. Overall, the selection is meh, they don't have a lot of variety. DO NOT COME HERE TO GET RID OF YOUR CLOTHES! They will lowball you and treat you with a horrible attitude! Try another location and maybe they'll be nicer to you and have better selections. read more

Went in with some expensive $50+ items I bought in the past. I exchanged 4 shirts and $17 for 3 of their items. Not crazy happy about this exchange but its a better alternative than throwing out clothes and buying more $50+ items. I enjoyed sifting through the selection and Im satisfied with the clothes I found. In the grand scheme, its a great way to recycle clothes and reduce clutter. Plato's Closet recently opened in Richmond Hill (Elgin Mills/Leslie). Tonight was my first time at this new location (same owner as Scarborough location). The shop is so well organized, by category, size and colour. They have a great selection of (mostly) second-hand clothing and accessories, with a few new, unused items as well. They have a small mens section at the back, but the majority of what they stock is women's clothing, shoes, purses, as well as a showcase of jewellery and designer sunglasses. They have a selection of higher-end designer items, but generally the items are very affordable, with well-known labels as Lululemon, BCBG, Kate Spade, True Religion, Coach, Michael Kors, etc.. The shop was super easy to navigate and the staff were friendly. They purchase items from customers (though I did not sell items tonight). They also have convenient hours, staying open late on weekdays. They are definitely more selective than other, large used stores in what they will take in. The only negative thing which I pointed out to them, was that the staff should be more attentive when they tag the items. I saw a great leather jacket that I would have purchased, but the location in which they attached the price tag resulted in a slight hole in the leather, which prevented me from buying it (it should have been tagged under the arm or in a less visible spot, but it was tagged through the back of the leather below the neck). Overall, I would recommend this store if you are selling or purchasing, as the selection is great, the store is neat and most importantly, the staff were friendly. Note: they do not carry children's items, though may take some tween size 14 or 16 items. read more

I went to this store for the first time a couple days ago and loved it that I went for a second time later that day. They really have great selections for every piece of clothing, at great prices, and great condition. The store itself looks clean and organized, with extremely nice and helpful staff. Unfortunately, when I went to trade some items, they only took 1 because the others were out of style. Overall, wonderful store! I will be visiting again sometime soon. read more

Avoid Scarborough location at all costs. They kept saying that it wouldn't be much longer to go through the items I brought and it honestly took hours. Overall, I like this place! The concept is great, the store is HUGE, and the staff are really nice. I wonder sometimes, they are very picky with what they buy, but then when i look at their floor, they seem to have quite a few items with stains/holes, or some other issue. So not sure what is going on there. I find something every now and again, but make sure you check the item very carefully because there are issues sometimes. Also, why are they buying wool sweaters and scarfs that are clearly shrunken and not wearable?? read more

THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!! NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY BECAUSE ITS ALL JUST A HYPE! I went to the store all the way to Richmond hill with a bunch of brand name items with tag and all and they only took 3 items and claimed that the rest is not fit for the store??!? I had asked them ahead of time what the conditions are for selling the cloths and they said they will accept light worn brand named items. So I brought just that all the way to Richmond hill just for them to take 3 items and claim that the rest is "unfit". I'm in my early twenties and the stuff I brought to the store is pretty up to date. IM GONNA BE HONEST SIS IF U WANT TO SAVE MONEY AND THRIFT THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. ITS OVER EXPENSIVE AND A HYPE. WHEN I LOOKED AT THE ADS ONLINE IT LOOKED LIKE A GREAT PLACE WITH A LOT OF CUTE OPTIONS IN REALITY ITS JUST UR AVERAGE OVER EXPENSIVE THRIFT STORE ! It's not worth it!
