A bit disappointed in how my experience here played out. Long story short, they held my car for a long time on a short job and I felt unclear about almost everything throughout the way. Communication: I tried following the number in their VM to text for an appointment, but didn't hear back. I followed up several days later and was able to make an appointment for a potentially minor issue with my car. Once I was rolling, their communication picked up but was still pretty sparse. I had no idea if this was a one hour job, a one day job, or more. Time: I dropped my car first thing on a Wednesday at my appt time and didn't receive it back until Friday afternoon. There was no real time-consuming issue, I feel like they just never really got around to it which was a bummer. To their credit, they did confirm with me that it would be OK to stay an extra day (I have an e-bike so it worked out fine in the end) but that's a long time for what was a quick repair. Value: Good value, I felt the price I paid was fair for the work. Issue: I think my issues with the car will remain, however. I expressly told them about a sound and how to re-create the sound, and they claimed they never heard it. I can go out right now and make it happen clear as day, so again I feel like they just didn't really try to figure it out. I'll have to find someone else who can tackle it. I really, really needed to find a nice mechanic who I could trust after my good one closed and was so hopeful here, but ultimately it fell pretty flat. They ordered a part for me...it was not delivered they said they ordered another part on the 29th of December 2025. When I went there a couple of days later, they were closed. And when I ordered the parts from a Nissan dealership they would not install them because they had not ordered the parts themselves. Save your money and don't make the trip. I just recently moved to KCMO, and I've been trying to find services for my car, especially as I need to register in MO. When I was searching for places to get a safety inspection, I was hopeful to find a place close to my house - - and I landed on Value Auto Clinic! I was so relieved to find a place with personable staff, and they were great at setting me at ease that my car was in good hands. I was walking by this morning, and decided to stop and figure out what types of services were available at this location. Josh was super helpful in telling me that they do vehicle inspections and lots of other services (just not body work). Since I'm new, he also explained what I'd need for the inspection, which was helpful for knowing what I'd need in the future! When I walked in, I hadn't driven my car over, but he mentioned that I could come back whenever, and they'd get the car in as soon as they could. I ended up being back about 15 minutes later, and they took my keys to do the inspection. I walked around the corner to relax, and they notified me by text that my car was ready in about 25 minutes! Granted, I did drop it off around 8:30 am, so I can imagine it would be longer waits later in the day. Located in a sort of random spot on Gilham, the place is quite inconspicuous. Not a large waiting room (not sure if people stick around in here or not), but it is right down the street from a coffee shop if you need to wait it out--and if it's later in the day, Martini Corner is just down the block. So my wife has been using this auto clinic for awhile. This is my first time. Just went in for a simple oil change and check up on coolant. They were very friendly, professional, and very timely! I will be bringing my car back for all sorts of service and no longer back to the dealership. These guys know what they're doing and will always be cheaper than the dealers. I have used value auto-clinic since about 2009, mostly on an older 2003 Saab 9-3 but also a 2016 Dodge caravan, 2010 Ford Fusion, 2011 Saab 9-5. I grew up on a farm that I've recently taken back over and have a pretty good understanding of basic mechanical and electrical systems for a layman and can say that Value Auto has always been fair and often been able to resolve issues more cheaply than I had anticipated with no up-sell agenda. They have done a fair amount of basic stuff on my vehicles (brakes, a wheel bearing or two, tires, oil changes, coils and plugs, fuel pump, etc.) and tackled at least one complicated electrical gremlins problem that was a lot of hours tracing modules with a voltage meter...a real nightmare...and always been fair, upfront about options for repairs (or to NOT repair something that is just an inconvenience) and, most importantly, competent. I've never felt like hours I've paid for went towards on-the-job training and have been in several circumstances where a crooked or even just lazy shop could've racked up a lot of hours and these guys actually buckled down and figured things out without just throwing parts at problems where they weren't really needed. When I first tried to find a shop in downtown-ish KCMO I tried several other places, mostly chains, that would often quote you a kit-and-caboodle whole-assembly replacement before they even got anything apart to really look at and diagnose the problem and always seemed to have an up-sell agenda ("alignment subscriptions" coolant flushes, assorted other snake-oil) and I'm glad I found these guys after trying a few of those places. It's owner-operated...the guy that answers the phone (Jared) is the owner so the buck stops with him and he's always been fair and honest in my experience, something rarer than it should be in the mechanic business. I've referred several friends over the years that have also had good experiences, some on pretty major stuff, like installing a corvette motor in an old GMC mini-van. read more

These guys have twice now found problems that do not exist and offered to fix them. To me, that's as shady as it gets for a mechanic. I generally prefer small, local shops to chains or dealers. It's disappointing to have this experience with these guys. I hope you look elsewhere. read more

Value Auto Clinic is a reliable, trustworthy, and reasonably priced mechanic shop in KCMO. I not only take my entire fleet of delivery vans there but also my personal vehicle. They fix foreign and domestic cars and can do just about anything besides body work, from a simple oil change to a engine overhaul. Jarrod the owner is friendly, fair, and honest. They will get you in and out as quickly as possible and even offer a courtesy ride if you need to leave your vehicle with them. I have never had to return a vehicle to them after it's been serviced. You won't find a nicer bunch of guys, and such a clean and organized shop. I have taken our family "fleet" of cars to Value Auto's Downtown clinic for the last five or six years, and I have complete confidence in them as individuals and as a company. Jared, the owner, is an even-keeled person who does not try to sell you stuff you don't need. He, or the mechanic assigned to work on your vehicle, always calls to explain what they have found, what the fix will involve and how much it will cost. On multi-faceted jobs, they prioritize the problems and let you decide what you want done and how much you are able to pay. I have developed an excellent relationship not only with Jared but also with the four main mechanics. All four have been with Value for several years, and the continuity of service is very reassuring...The last time I was in, it was for an oil change on my Ford Fusion Hybrid, but Jason, the mechanic doing the job, also checked the tires and wheels. He found a small nail in one tire, removed it and it didn't leak. No additional repair needed. He also discovered that the left front wheel was loose because a pin had worked its way out of place. I had not noticed that, and it could have made for a bad scene on an interstate! I'm so glad he took the time and trouble to "go the extra mile."
