Good eats, good drinks, and great waitstaff! Today (Jan 28th) was our first visit. We planned on going to a deli just a couple of buildings down but they were closed. How fortunate for us in that now we can add a new place for food and drink in Murphy. My wife and I both had the half pound burger with fries for me and onion rings for her. I had sweet tea (brewed that morning by our friendly and polite waiter, Justin) and my wife drank water with lemon. While scarfing down the burger I looked over the beer list and saw an interesting cider called Strawberry Magic from Wisconsin and since we don't care to drink beer with our food, we both shared a pint (after the ever attentive Justin gave us both a sample). Look them up in the Yellow pages for website, location, hours, and menu. Give them a try! We will most assuredly be back soon. Update Revisited and this time Brooke attended to our needs with prompt and courteous service. Husband went to pick up our to go order. Philly steak and cheese with onions, peppers, fresh mushrooms and your choice of cheese. The roll was soft & the flavor of the steak & ingredients were delicious. The home made french fries were delicious. We will be going back to try other things on their menu. This is the place to come and get a nice frosty well prepared beer. Their recipes are diverse and you have many different brews to choose from. The pizza was great and very cheesy. We had pepperoni and basil and they murdered that pie with cheese in which I LOVED. Our waitress was very sweet and sadly I forgot her name. She was informed on the menu items and the kinds of beer to choose from. She even gave us samples to try and figure out what we wanted. We ordered a flight and the different kinds of beers were delicious The little downtown of Murphy needs a place like this. It's great for friends or even family. read more

Great food and the employees are very friendly at the Murphy location. Awesome selection of craft beer. All of the desserts are homemade. If you eat French fries; these are the best in town. The white pizza is also one of my favorites (add chicken). All portions are humongous. The only thing I would change are the stools in the bar. They are not friendly to your back. read more

Great beer and great french fries. They are clearly fresh cut, and were perfectly cooked. The cheese steak sandwich was good, but average. The beer selection is mostly made at their brewery, and everything I tried was fantastic. The wine list was promising, but I was not feeling wine-ish that night. Was in town traveling alone, and it was a nice, friendly place to eat. Bartender was friendly and made good conversation without being pushy. If I come through again, will stop. read more

The Valley River Brewery is the western-most brewery in the state of NC. Located in scenic Murphy, NC, there's not much else around, so there's not a lot of competition, but its well worth the visit if you're visiting the area. The location was right downtown in a little hole-in-the-wall off the main drag. The staff was exceedingly friendly and made us feel right at home. There's even a pub menu with the usual; we had fried green tomatoes, pizza, and chicken wings. The first two were pretty average, but the wings were quite good, the equal of what you can find anywhere in the state. Unfortunately the beer was strictly amateur hour. I tried a 4-part sampler, and each was typical of what my friends with no brewing experience make in their basements. That isn't to say I didn't enjoy the beer, and it was much better than giving in and drinking a Budweiser, but it was the least polished beer of any brewery I've ever tried, with weak, one-dimensional flavor profiles. Cute decor, except the pool noodle-backed chairs. The pizza was great, except we wanted a half & half and they absolutely will not do one (that disclaimer is added to the menu by scotch tape). The beers were good. Waitress forgot my wife's second wine order & missed out on a second beer purchase. All in all, when everything else is closed in Murphy, you'll at least get a decent pizza (steer WAY clear of the cafeteria nachos!). read more

Oh my.... They have a brick oven that perfectly crisps your crust. You select your own toppings and have a choice of a white or red sauce. Either way it is a treat. I chose the Strawberry Cider to drink which was sublime. read more

Restaurant is clean. Looks new. Their sanitation rating is 100%. But a clean restaurant isn't all that is needed. Their service sucks. Clearly everyone has their own stations and no desire to help another section. My server was useless. We will call him "J". I came here to work and eat dinner. I almost left when I realized service was sub par. On the check, he wrote "thanks brah". If you saw this guy, you would understand. I think the word is probably douchebag. But I wanted to punch him in the face once I read that. Anyway, I will not be back. Ciao, brewery with potential. Fire your servers and get new ones. read more

Very very Delicious! From out of town and we loved it. People were very friendly! We got two brick oven pizzas that were absolutely delicious! If I had to put any issue which may of been part of the White sauce was kinda greasy. We also had a pretzel with beer cheese. Pretzel is typical of all places and the beer cheese was pretty good one of the stronger beer tastes and Smokey flavor I have had. read more

Went there today and tried to order a Philly Cheese Steak. I told the server that I would like Philly Cheese Steak with no mayonnaise, malt vinegar on the side and could you please toast the bun. The server then replied, "I can do the malt vinegar but I can't do the toasted bun because the manager is here". Can anyone else figure that one out??????? I have one word for this place, Terrible! Ordered onion rings,should have stopped there. They were so greasy and smelled terrible like The grease had not been changed in a year. The atmosphere was friendly and service acceptable. The pretzel was straight from a box or a baseball game, and the beer cheese was from a can. The beer from the drafts was so warm that the glasses had 90% foam until it settled. The white pizza was a strong 6 out of 10. I might have given it more stars but... The grey haired bartender with a goatee pulled two beers from the draft and got confused when he put them in the pass for the server, so he TASTED the beer to confirm which one was which. Then the server delivered it to the patron. Yak! Food quality is one thing, but health and safety is a totally different subject. read more

One of our must stop places when we are in Murphy. Everything we get there is delicious. We had a party of 11 and ordered plenty of food. We have always enjoyed the service and had a great time with the service again with this big of a party.(make sure you call ahead with a party since the dining room is on the small side). All the pizzas we ordered were great as well as the onion rings, cheese bread, and shrimp and fries. Great selection of beers and my favorite this time was the peach cider. Our first time at Valley River Brewery and Eatery (say that 3 times fast) and the experience was pretty positive. We ordered the shrimp for me and a burger for my husband. I am a french fry 'connisseur' and a stickler about fresh, hot fries. Those we were served appeared to be refried, as the were very dark in color and just barely warm. I know in some restaurants, they will make them ahead of time and then drop them in the oil to 'freshen' them, and that's a huge no no for me. They replaced them with hot, fresh fries that were fine. The shrimp was great and the burger too. I'm sure we'll go back again sometime. read more

My husband and I were driving through Murphy and saw Valley River Brewing. We decided to stop in for some craft beer. Sam was our bartender and really knew her stuff about beer. She asked what kind of beer we liked and we each got a flight. The beers were $5 for a flight of 4 and $4 for each pint. We ordered a Philly cheesesteak which was ok. The fries were really good though! We are planning on returning in order to try their pizza and have some more beer. read more

Wow, so glad this joint opened up! Great pizza, cool decor, and helpful staff. I've tried both new pizza joints and this one has the better pizza. The barnyard pizza is great but you can get a great pizza with just two toppings also. I've tried the pretzel, onion rings, and the garlic knot appetizers and that's how I'd rank them too. The garlic knots were weak but the pretzel with the beer cheese dip was tasty and soft. The onion rings passed the break and pull test, as the onion stayed in the shell. With the pizza that brick oven is the key to their great crust. The pizza is kinda pricey but you are getting a much higher quality compared to a chain. We typically spend $30 with tip for a barnyard pizza, one appetizer, and one drink. I knocked them one star because the barnyard pizza we got last time didn't match up to the amazing first one we had. Fix that to have more consistency and you got something great! read more
