We were traveling Tennessee home was going to go to Bear Water brewery. As we were traveling I called them they don't do their on beers anymore. I looked we were 15 minutes from Valley River Brewery. My wife doesn't drink so food is a much. We came here. The staff was fantastic. I loved their beers. As a home brewer for 30 years (my dog is named Simcoe after a hop) i may be a little picky but i didn't find one beer i didn't like. I was very impressed. The food was amazing. Their desert we didn't need was amazing. When we travel back from Tennessee to South Carolina we have found a new brewery we will stop at. I wish they had a place we could eat with our puppy. We stopped by to check out their beer selection and food. The beer selection was tasty if you like craft beer. The food was amazing! A lot of homemade food with tons of flavor. They also have homemade desserts. We got the cheeseburgers, Philly cheesesteak, and kids pizza, and gyro. Everyone was very pleased with what they got. The sauce on the gyro was one of the best sauces. The Philly cheesesteak was perfectly done and full of seasoning. The hamburgers were thick and almost hard to eat because of the size lol! This is an excellent down home restaurant. While in town my wife and I came across this place and boy were we surprised. The staff were very friendly and the service was prompt. There is plenty of seating as the restaurant has a second room off of the main area. The food was amazing and very fresh. We tried the Philly Cheesesteak and the Cheese Burger. We also had the cheese sticks and a 10" pizza. We will be coming back to this restaurant soon. read more

Quaint restaurant with yummy pizza! Arrived with a party of 5 and it was around a 15 minute wait to be seated. The restaurant is small so be prepared to wait if you have a larger group. I ordered the 14inch pizza and added fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and black olives. It was perfect food for after a hike! I tried their beer as well it was good- just not exactly my type. After checking out the area a little and walking downtown Murphy, we decided to come here to grab something to eat. They are located on Tennessee street right near the square of Murphy, NC. The place has two rooms for seating areas. One bigger area near the bar with all high top tables and another smaller room off to the side. We were seated at a table near the bar and the kitchen. We were provided menus and had a our drink orders taken. The menu is pretty basic with pizza, burgers, salads, chili, sandwiches, bar type appetizers and a few basic entrees such as fish and chips. They have about 11 of their own beers plus a few guest taps. We started with a pretzel with beer cheese which is a go to for us and when it arrived we each decided to order a 10 inch pizza. The pizza's are all "build your own" with the individual toppings listed. My wife ordered the garlic butter topping with mushrooms, and sliced tomatoes. I chose the marinara with extra sauce, meatballs and pepperoni. When our pizzas arrived the server let us know the cook mistakenly made one of the pizzas in the 14" size, it was huge. AMAZING PIZZA! We stumbled upon Valey River Brewery during our trip into the heart of Murphy. Parking: Plentiful street parking. Service: Great! It's a super chill vibe. The food came out so fast! Food: * 14" Cheese Pizza ($14.99): We added in the pepperoni and red onions for ($1.25 each). Valley River's pizzas are super cheesy and delicious. I loved every bite. The toppings are below the cheese, so it doesn't get overcooked and dry. * Mimosa Cider ($2.75/half, $5.50/full): For all my non-beer drinkers, this one is yummy. You can order the half portion for only $2.75! Everything is very reasonably priced. Portions are good. They are very generous with the cheese, haha. We had a great time. Locals recommended this eatery on a recent vacation in the area and there's good and okay to choose from. Food 3-4 Stars Beer 3-4 Stars Service (during our visit) 5 Stars Located in downtown, the small-town atmosphere of the place was not dampened by COVID restrictions put in place IMHO (note here that you might want to call ahead to reserve a table). Masks are required except for when seated at the table and the spacing of occupied tables helped the social distancing. Our party of six waited about 15 minutes for an open table. That said, the wait person for us - Ashley - introduced herself, apologized for the wait, and kept us informed of wait time and when we could be seated. She was definitely a 5 star server! The food and beer was a mixture of average to real good. AVERAGE: - Soft pretzel and beer cheese dip was regular store-bought and the consistency and flavor of the dip did not stand out - My gyro sandwich consisted of store-bought pre-sliced meat (I should have known better) and normal fixings - Fish and Chips - everyday batter dipped Cod and the hand cut fries. For us, the fries arrived over done. REAL GOOD: - Onion rings - hot, right amount of batter and what onion rings should be - Pizza - wood-fired and tasty for pepperoni, cheese, and 5 veggie pizzas. Thin-crust (note here that pizzas take longer to cook) - Nottely Cru - a "Champagne" beer at 9+% (I had just a taste due to my DD status) Also, for the adult beverages, beer, cider and wine are available. Also, if you're looking to try more beers, the flight was fairly priced. On a final note, if we ever get back to Murphy, we agreed we'd drop in again for the pizza. read more

Came for a weekend trip to Murphy and brewpubs are a personal favorite stop. Overall thought this was just ok, but can't compare to many other stops in Murphy. Beer choice was reasonably large and beer was decent. Had the giant pretzel and beer cheese. Found this one a bit rough, cheese in particular wasn't very good. Went with the pizza based on recommendation as they make them in house. Again an ok pizza and they had lots of options for toppings. Asked about the adult tenders and avoided those as they mentioned it was just frozen tenders. read more

Food was excellent, I ordered a cup of vegetable soup and a salad the vege soup was great, but a little salty. Salad was warm not cold, which was fine, but not your typical crisp cold salad. Hubby ordered a burger and fried mushrooms with onion rings. Onion rings and burger were excellent! I don't like mushrooms so I can't comment on those. He ate all of them. I ordered a lemonade and wanted another one thinking it was free refills like normal. Not so. I was charged another 3 dollars for 1/2 glass of lemonade. I stopped her at 1/2 glass but was charged another full glass. Pretty crappy to not have free refills. It was our waitresses very first day of waiting tables on her own. I wish I had gotten her name, she was a very good and personable waitress. I also wished I had ordered pizza she said it was amazing! After a 5 mi mountain bike ride with a straight up 1000' climb at the beginning it seemed fitting to go to a brewery afterwards. Valley River was the choice. Starting with a small salad that was simple and fresh. Sliced tomato and red onion on spinach with a sprinkling of cheese. Then on to the soup. I had the creamy asparagus. This had a very cheesy taste. Delicious! Would highly recommend. My wife not so much but this is MY review :). The tomato soup she had was bold and..... well..... tomatoie. Very bold and flavorful. A true win per both of us! As for the beers, my sunshine ipa was quite yeasty with not much hops in the flavor profile. The amber knight was very earthy. My boyfriend and my cousins took a quick trip to Murphy to visit my mom and grandma. Murphy is a cute little town, but somewhat limited on options compared to what I am used to living in Orlando. My mom recommended this spot so we all stopped in for dinner. The menu is not super extensive, but had some good options. I saw the table across from us had some tasty looking pizza so my boyfriend and I ordered that. One of our other party members ordered some nachos and onion rings as appetizers while we waited for our pie. The nachos were pretty tasty. The chips didn't seem to be homemade, but the beef and cheese were plentiful and tasted good. Our server was very friendly and checked on us regularly. She advised that pizzas go in one at a time so they would be coming out at different times which wasn't a big deal. Our pizza was cheese and mushroom and quite good! There was a generous amount of cheese which is a plus in my book. It had that stringy pull I love in a pizza. The sauce was fresh tasting and just the right amount. My boyfriend and I both really enjoyed it. We also had some brews. I had the Jackrabbit blonde beer and liked it a lot. Let me first say the staff was very friendly. However, the beer was some of the worst I've had in a long time. I ordered a flight of four beers. Nice presentation and only $5.50 for the flight. ESB was decent, the Pale Ale and Amber were so skunky tasting they were not even drinkable. The Porter was lackluster. I came here for beer and left utterly disappointed. To not even be able to drink two of the four is telling; there was definitely something wrong with those beers. Also, the barstools were of poor design and very uncomfortable. read more

Didn't know what to expect here. The decor was a bit dated but was still comfortable. We started with the 2 IPAs that they offer and they were very similar even though one was citrus and the other a double, For food we made Estes the fried mushrooms, onion rings and chicken and veggie quesadilla all which were very serviceable. The shrooms and rings could have used some seasoning but the were cooked perfectly. The quesadilla was the stand out. I stopped here for an early lunch with my grandmother before leaving town. The restaurant was basically empty because it had just opened but the server promptly greeted us. They had a decent selection of sandwiches and pizzas. I ordered a Sprite (which tasted like it was too much syrup, but it was tolerable). I ordered a pizza with pepperoni and bacon and my grandmother ordered the hamburger with fries. The size of the burger was very generous, but my grandmother said that it was dry. It did not mention anywhere on the menu that you had to request condiments for the burger, but my grandmother walked to the kitchen to ask for mayonnaise. The server brought it out and noted that you had to ask for condiments upon ordering. The fries were definitely freshly cut & not from a bag - very tasty. My pizza was large and you could tell that it was not frozen dough, which is good. The toppings and the cheese clumped together and came off of the dough easily (I would try to figure out a way to fix that) & it tasted a little bland, but overall it wasn't bad. Stopped in for a drink and really liked this place. It's bright and sunny, with a bar at the back and a nice open floor plan. I got a 4-flight of beer for $6 and a pretzel with cheese and my gf got a glass of pinot grigio; total bill was really cheap (under $20) so i tipped like $9 to make up for taking up one of their tables for ~an hour. The waitress was really sweet - she walked me through the beer list and gave good recs/background info, and poured me a sample of the mint stout (surprisingly good! and that's from someone who's only so-so on stouts. plus it's like 11% ABV ). Appreciate the service! Gf and I both really liked the Ciderboys Raspberry Cider - we plan on going back and buying a growler. They were sold out of growler containers when we there (getting more on back order soon), and it was good enough that we plan to buy our own growler from Walmart and come back to get more. Good vibes and good prices - we'll probably stop back in later this week while we're in town, and that's on top of going back to buy the growler. read more

The Bartender acknowledged us telling us to sit anywhere so we sat at a high top table. There was only a couple of other tables with people at them so they were not busy at all. We waited, and waited and waited. I kept looking up at the waitress and bartender trying to get their attention. The bartender was pretty busy but the waitress was just having a great time chatting with customers and friends I guess. After waiting about 10 minutes we got up and left. As we were leaving the bartender said thank you for coming, realized we had not eaten and then apologized when I told her we were leaving because no one would wait on us. We love this place! They have the best pizza and chili around! The servers are always super friendly and provide great service. Fun atmosphere with their giant chalkboard wall. We will most definitely come back. As a side note, apparently being in NC, they have to strictly enforce the mask laws, so that puts the staff in the awkward position of being the "mask police". If someone takes a step inside or away from their table without a mask, they can get reported and temporarily lose their liquor license. read more

The beer was a little underwhelming. The pale, IPA, and Dunkel all tasted kind of watery, and no huge distinction in the flavors. The Amber was pretty good. All-in-all the beer tasted good, but not spectacular. Great little place, incredibly friendly and inviting. The food smelled wonderful, I didn't eat though.. The flight of beers was priced very fair.
