I was told I could get chicken adobo at Valley Restaurant, and since it just didn't seem right to visit Juneau three times in two weeks without having any chicken adobo, and my plane wasn't leaving quite yet, I trudged there through the rain (this took about the same length of time as walking from a D gate to an A gate in Seatac, though it was rather damper) and took a seat. This is the sort of place where old people eat lunch, under the eye of a TV news anchor suspended near the ceiling, and the small ponytailed waitperson makes only the most perfunctory request for confirmation before she starts pouring into your mug from the coffeepot that never leaves her hand. None of this discouraged me; nor did the small drift of sad, browning iceberg scraps the ponytailed person set before me when I chose salad instead of soup. But the adobo itself (presented in unnerving quantity: three entire chicken thighs, with a veritable mountain of rice) turned out to be all too similar to the country music they put on when the news report was over, a syrupy concoction of sugar and vinegar without the slightest complexity or depth. I love this place! I had breakfast here during my interview trip. Linda was so kind to me. I'm a picky eater (no eggs, no cheese), and she gave me biscuits and gravy, plus sausage and hashbrowns. She talked a bit about how she loves Juneau. Fast forward three months. I went back this morning. She remembered me! The food here is comforting and delicious, and the service is even better! Asked at the front desk and they recommended this place. From the outside perspective I felt it was a bit out dated. When I walked in I confirmed that it was very outdated. Old ripped furniture, floors are worn out , it almost looks dirty. I want sure if I wanted to stay but I didn't want to drive around so I ordered the blackened halibut with Cesar salad and garlic bread. To my surprise the fish was delicious , the salad and bread were good too but the fish was great. If they updated the furniture and made it look more appealing I would definitely come back. read more

The Valley Restaurnt has changed hands once again. The new owners/cooks are not very impressive. I went there over the weekend and my eggs had bits of shells in them, my hashbrowns were burnt to a crisp on one side and almost raw on the other. The only good part was the biscuits and gravy...and the gravy was lacking in flavor. I miss the old owners, and sadly I probably won't be coming here again for quite awhile. read more

So I went here for the first time tonight. I ordered the Alwyns Burger and the menu said it had blue cheese and jalopenos on it. I asked the waitress if it came with the typical other burger toppings and before I could even finish my order she began to walk away and I had to yell to ask her to add bacon. Anyways of course the order comes back with all this extra stuff on it I didn't want (it wasn't on the menu and the waitress told me it didn't come with that stuff) so there was also no bacon. Here's the kicker y'all...I told this other lady that my order was wrong and she rolled her eyes at me!!!! I was super polite! And she rolled her eyes!! She snatched my Burger off the table and asked me what my order was. Literally I ordered exactly what the menu said on it and to add bacon. havent been here in years, but if its the same as it was when i lived in juneau, dont let the bad reviews discourage you. Its a diner, and as with all diners its meant for breakfast. The breakfast is great. You dont go to a pizzaria and order the linguini and clam sauce do you? you order the pizza, its a diner, you order breakfast which is served all day there. The filipino style breakfast is great, hashbrowns and scrambled eggs with diced onion and tomato, with 2 links of longanisa sausage that is cooked perfectly. If it wasnt for valley rest. i never would have tasted or gotten addicted to that sausage. Also for some reason somebody posted a picture of donnas for this restaurant? Donna's is another great greasy spoon for breakfast but its about a mile down the street on the opposite side of the street. read more

This is just a honest review. They are normally 5 stars across the board, but not this morning, they were mostly slow. Got our menu's fairly quick, but took awhile to get back to us. Took our order and I didn't get my hot chocolate and OJ until right before we finally got our breakfast. Then they messed up on 2 of our egg orders and completely messed up on one order of toast. Then to top it all off my hamburger steak was kind of like warm. We are hoping this isn't the regular with here, because we really enjoy eating here. read more

Great place for breakfast. Serves a lot of traditional diner type breakfasts like eggs, hash browns, sausage and bacon. Only place in town that serves loco moco. I had heard from locals that the service was bad here so I have started timing when I sit down at restaurants. There was a clearly marked sign stating seat yourself when I walked in. After sitting down at Valley Restaurant for 8 minutes without being greeted, given a menu or water/coffee this morning... I realized the waitress/hostess was busy talking to her coworker and not helping the 3 other tables with a total 6 people in the restaurant (including me). We made eye contact twice during her rant to her friend and still no service. I slowly got up and gathered my jacket and purse and still nothing. I walked out... Very calmly hoping for something from her or her coworker/friend. Nothing. Maybe I should have made a scene? Or asked her if I could get some food or water? Not sure what protocol is here. read more

I probably go here once a month and get the same thing every time. Loco Moco. They could make it a bit saltier in order to be more authentic, but it is still delicious. Their other breakfast items are tasty and cheap. I never leave hungry and I don't feel angry about how much I spent on the food. Donna's restaurant will drain your wallet; Valley is just as good for a bargain. Plus the menu is bigger! read more

Decent but uninspiring breakfast. My wife enjoyed the "garbage plate." My eggs were fine but the French toast was pretty bland, and served with bad fake syrup. Worst service ever!!!! My boyfriend and I came to eat and waited 10 minutes no one came to our table. The moment another couple walked in the lady rushed to there table across from us, hoping she would see us at the moment, but just walked off. I went back with a friend a few weeks later, ordered the sweet and sour pork. It was nasty, the rice tasted a day old and the pork was so rough I couldn't chew it. Had the loco moco and it was very good. Quick service and never had to wait very long for anything. Small local feel, very cozy.

The fish n chips were terrible. The waitress added 15% to our bill and then when we asked about it, she quickly removed it. It felt like they were trying to overcharge us. I would not recommend this place. read more

Inconsistent quality - I have ordered the exact same dish and found it marginal (overcooked) sometimes, and outstanding (succulent) others. Great food, but horrible delivery service. Rude, short, and completely lacking in what most would consider standard on delivery expectations. In multiple instances; order's were attempted, only to find that the "driver" hadn't shown up yet after their start time of 5pm (clearly a bad business avocation). In addition to that, orders that were placed, took longer than expected on delivery times. Over all, we'd rate the food A +, but the management...completely sub-par. Great place to sit and eat, but be cautionary on delivery. read more
