This place is amazing!! People are wonderful and food is off the hook. I didn't like coming to Juneau for work. Mostly hotels but more so food. Everything has been average at best the times I came and mostly overpriced under portioned. These folks got it right. this is a cozy, dark, and romantic place to have dinner in downtown juneau. bf and i were enticed when we were walking in the building and saw 2 giant trays of lasagna through the big window into the kitchen. we went back for dinner the next night and it was definitely the right choice! you MUST GET the meatball ricotta dish!!! they're so yummy and taste like sausages and also comes with little pizza crust slices and spinach. i ordered a jamaican pizza and it was yummy! bf ordered the lasagna and it was basically the meatball dish but with less meat and more pasta. their marinara sauce was super delicious too! they have bar seating and tables, and the service was alright as the restaurant got busy during dinner hours. this is a great place for some italian food if you're ever in downtown juneau! read more

Went to enjoy a date night and the service and food were average. Salad was good, my wife said crab gnocchi was okay and my lasagna wasn't fully cooked, it was cold in the middle and cheese wasn't melted. At the end of the night they tried to overcharge us for the gnocchi, good thing we checked the receipt and menu. They charged us, $25.99, when the menu said 19.99. We brought it up with the server and they corrected the price giving a bad excuse. Watch out for shady practices on your receipt. read more

We came to ROMA right after they revamped their menu. It used to be a place where they just served pizzas according to what the locals told us. Now they offer more fancier Italian dishes. They haven't done away with the pizzas but they offer more elegant food options than what they used to have from what we heard. We were in The Wharf a couple of different times and I saw their menu in which their stuffed dates caught my eye. After seeing that we made a commitment to have a meal here during our trip. Of course we ordered the dates first thing and loved them! Goat cheese was involved with them being stuffed which was a great experience! My favorite from everything we ordered. We shared two other plates, Steve and I and enjoyed those menu items as well! The Cacio e Pepe which was fantastic! It was spaghetti pasta, pecorino and black pepper. The black pepper really made this dish pop! Our other plate was the Spinacio which contained baby spinach, green apples, toasted pine nuts, gorginzola and raspberry vinegarette. Another fantastic dish! We would so come back and maybe go the more casual route and try their pizzas but I'm not so sure that I couldn't pry myself away from placing an order for those stuffed dates! read more

Super cute place with modern furniture and lighting and delicious smells for days. The menu is full of great ideas...unfortunately pretty poor execution. The Italian margarita was fantastic - great ratio of amaretto - strong but not too sweet. The sangria and aperol spritz were a bit on the weak side. The crab gnocchi had some small chunks of snow crab but the pesto was super salty and overwhelming and the gnocchi was definitely pre-made. The stuffed dates were drowned in orange marmalade that was so overwhelming and sweet and the stuffed funghi was missing the sausage? The pizza was made on pre-made crust that was cracker crunchy while the toppings were raw and cheese was barely melted. Service was moderately acceptable. The server was nice but definitely splitting his attention too much. Passed in desert because those are store bought too. Roma has so much potential! Roma is a smaller sized restaurant located downtown. The look and feel is compact and stylish. Starting with the small plates, portioning is perfect for two people to share. I would recommend trying out a few of the available options. The flavors were amazing and presentation was spot on. Our pasta entrees however were just mediocre. After the enjoyment of the small plates, I guess I expected something exemplary. I didn't find that. The gnocchi I ordered was dry. It seemed as if it sat for few minutes before being brought out. Although it did taste good, it was a little dried out. Service was slightly slow, but I do believe it was at no fault to the servers. The two servers were tending to the bar and multiple table on two floors. I'd be more inclined to say it was management not staffing accordingly on a Sunday afternoon with decent weather and a holiday. The servers were polite and very knowledgeable of the menu, as well as they made some good recommendations with the small plates. I would return on special occasions for dinner or when taking someone out. The drinks were well made and the atmosphere is very comfortable for a nice night out. read more

My dad and I shared a shrimp appetizer, and two pasta dishes. I had the Gnochi, and he had the Bistro dish. All dishes were absolutely delicious as well as our gin cocktail. My dad isn't really a dining out kind of guy and we were both severely underdressed for this place, but we both had a great experience here. The atmosphere was welcoming, Kate the server was super nice and was really fast. Everything tasted fresh and it came out quick. My dad told Kate that this was the best meal he's had in Alaska, which I personally think is a little over the top, but he really loved everything and we both left full. When we looked at the portion sizes (the appetizer was two prawns served on two polenta patties, they were AMAZING, and entree's were two modest portions of pasta), I thought that there was no way that we were going to come away full. But we both did, and we're both larger people. I'm giving this restaurant 5 stars because I think the food genuinely made my papa happy. read more

This restaurant came highly suggested from the locals in town so I decided to give it a try. Cute space with a fun hip feel in an overall kind of vintage town. The food was spectacular! I got the butternut squash ravioli and the meatball sandwich. The restaurant wasn't too busy but the food came out hot and fresh and the server was very attentive. The server was very knowledgeable and also great at giving suggestions for menu items which is always a plus. The only let down of the meal was the dessert. I got the rhubarb tiramisu which was unfortunately dry and tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge too long. The server though was great and could tell I didn't enjoy it and apologized. We were very disappointed. We ate there last summer on our trip home and loved it. This time the wait was lengthy, the wait staff were very nice, but the food was disappointing. None of the entrees come with what you would expect; some garlic bread and at least a side salad. The tortellini was okay, but very bland. I ordered bread and it was so hard I had to soak it in my sauce to make it even slightly edible. And it was tasteless. My husband got the Marguerite pizza. It was not bad, but not great. The cocktails were not good. Do NOT order the Italian Margarita, very sour, very unpleasant. Overall not a great dining experience. Doubtful we will make that mistake again. read more

Our food was absolutely delicious. I had a pizza and my wife hard the carb gnocchi. It had a lot of crab and she was very happy. My pizza was perfect. The food took a few extra minutes due to a couple large groups and many take out orders. We didn't have any issues with an extra few minutes but our waiter gave us a slice of cheesecake for desert which surprised us but grateful he did, wow!!! read more

While in port on our Alaskan cruise, I was on the hunt for a slice of pizza and a cold beer. Pizzeria Roma fit the bill and was an easy ten minute walk along the water to reach it. Just after noon and with several cruise ships docked, I walked right in ordered, sat down and was served in no time. It wasn't like pizza back home but way better than what was offered onboard. If you're only visiting Juneau for a meal or two, this is an okay place to skip. But if you're here for longer, or live in Juneau - this is a great spot for an bite. The first thing about this place is the fantastic smell that fills the corridor. Its amazing pizzeria yumminess fills the entire wharf building. The salads are good - I had a great spinach salad with pine nuts, green apples, and dried cranberries. The personal pizzas are big enough to share and tasty. Here from out of town and ordered food to go. Our spaghetti was swimming in a watery sauce with way over cooked noodles and topped with a thick layer of cheese. The bread that came with it was laying on top and soggy, not toasted and plain. Not good. My slice of pepperoni pizza tasted old and looked like it had been sitting for a while. Terrible. I sat down to order with my 2 kids (waiting for the wife to meet us). We're just about to place our order and in comes my wife with a single bowl of salmon chowder from a local restaurant. The guy who was about to take our order immediately says that no outside food is allowed. We tell him we're about to order and yet he still stands by with his staunch policy. The best, and worst pizza place. The service is sub parr, and they changed their menu while ago, but have yet to update the website site. Sometimes the pizza is awesome, the Roma Garden was really good. However, as they updated the menu internally, and not on the web site we did not know to order it with out the olives. This pizza was riddled with them, and picking them off became an excavation game. I've also had a chicken with white sauce that was nasty. The chicken was I think thys that they pre cook, froze and thawed in a microwave. It had this re-heated chewy plastic taste. Ick! The pizzas themselves are pricy, but the lunch special is fairly priced. read more

Not going back. I wish I knew how to post a picture of the pizza so you could see it. It was supposed to be a crunchy crust pizza but the dough could have been cooked more thoroughly. Sauce and ingredients only covered the center of the pizza with an inch or more of plain crust--with nothing on it on the edges. Not fully cooked. They only had three customers sitting down that I could see and they did not seem swamped with orders, so I do not understand why the service wad so poor.
