Popped into Alaskan Brewing when we got off our cruise ship in Juneau. Sat at the bar and had nice, prompt service from the bartenders. I ordered a Spruce Cherry Grapefruit Seltzer, which was light and refreshing with great flavor. They had a large number of taps with their beer as well as a full bar and to-go beers. They also had a nice looking food menu with a good selection of seafood and sandwiches. They also had a large gift shop with a number of Alaskan Brewing merch. We stopped in the brewery on a rainy day in port during a cruise. I really liked their tasting room and the gift shop that had a lot of fun Alaskan beer logo merchandise, and we wished that we were able to take a growler of beer home with us! My husband tried a flight of several beers, and he enjoyed it. I had a green apple seltzer, and it was a refreshing different drink besides beer. They also were selling a house-made gin, but we had each already maxed out our duty-free alcohol allowance. We enjoyed a pizza from the nearby food truck with our beers. If you're in Juneau and don't stop at Alaskan Brewing Company, the salmon will rise from the harbor and revoke your Alaskan privileges. Not necessarily because of the food, but absolutely because of the beer and views. Let's start with the fish nuggets...oh yes, fish nuggets. Not to be confused with chicken, or gold. These were pure, unfiltered seafood glory in bite-sized form. Were they a little dry? Sure. But that's just Alaska's way of telling you to drink more beer. We obliged. We're nothing if not respectful guests. Next up, the Caesar salad. A Caesar salad with pine nuts. Let me repeat that. Pine. Nuts. Whoever thought of that deserves a raise and probably their own floatplane. It was crunchy, creamy, nutty, and I'm pretty sure my wife made eye contact with her salad like it was a long-lost lover. Luckily, I'm not the jealous type. Now let's talk beer. Yeah, cold, crisp, and so refreshing I considered pouring it on my head like a shampoo commercial. The Alaskan IPA hits just right: bold but smooth, like if a lumberjack learned jazz piano. Pro tip: Add a bit of orange juice to it to make it a hoppy orange shandy. Perfection! But the real showstopper? The view. You're posted up in the harbor, watching the cruise ships glide in like massive floating buffets. It's part beer garden, part people zoo. Bonus points for the seagull that judged me the entire time from the railing -- 10/10 winged sass. Would I come back? Absolutely. Would I order extra beer to rehydrate my fish nuggets? So this is probably the best kept secret in Juneau. Free ride from downtown to the brewery and tasting room for America's best amber beer. IMHO, this is the gold standard of Ambers. Their other beers are good, but this is awesome - smooth and tasty. We got two flights of three and while others are good, I do recommend trying the Smoked beer. Reminiscent of the German smoke beers and equally smooth. They also non alcoholic options, which are good but very sweet. Lots of souvenirs products to remind you of Alaska's premier brewery and the magical origin of America's best Amber! Highly recommend this as something to do takes about 90 minutes and leaves from the Alaska Brewery Public House (near the cruise ships) on the half hours. P.s. I don't recommend leaving your glasses behind. But if you do make that mistake, their manager was so awesome to run them downtown so I could get them before my ship sailed! When in Juneau, it's pretty much a requirement to visit the amazing Alaskan Brewing Company, which has become an iconic American beer brand with their widely distributed brews like Alaskan Amber. In fact, they've become such a Juneau institution that they've opened up a separate beer hall in the downtown area. However, personally, I wanted to visit their mother lode location: the brewery located on the outskirts of town. And for this, yes, we actually rented a car! We arrived via cruise ship in May, and (after running a few errands), headed to the brewery. We got there right when they opened, so they weren't very busy yet. The tasting room is beautiful, with lots of wood and a ginormous Alaskan Brewing merch zone where you can get, well, just about anything you want with their logo. There were many items devoted just to specific beers. Did I almost buy an Alaskan Amber hoodie? Heck yeah! We had a quick visit in Juneau and we're looking for a place to rest before we had an excursion. We loved the Alaskan Brewing Company. Everyone was so nice, great drinks, IPAs, and had a great app. I know they get busy, and they serve people from all over the world, and sometimes that can make waitstaff jaded, but our server was so friendly from the get go. We didn't sit on the patio, but it looked like an amazing place to spend a warm sunny day. And the inside was so clean, well decorated, and they had very clean bathrooms. Very unwelcoming bar staff, came in on a cruise port day, one of the last for the year, so I was surprised with the complete lack of customer service. As stated, we came off a cruise ship so I was hoping to get some WIFI to catch up a little. I was told there wasn't any WIFI at Alaska Brewing, but they referred me to another restaurant and bar a few blocks away. So I had one beer and left, only to find out from their competitors location that all of Juneau has free WIFI everywhere. So I stayed there and had food and drinks, I guess Alaska Brewing didn't need or want my money that day. We didn't stay long enough to eat but other cruise mates indicated the same lack of customer appreciation and bad food experiences. read more

Alaskan Brewing Company: it's fine. This is, by far, the biggest brewery in Alaska. In fact, it's the 14th largest craft brewery in the US. Why? I'm not really sure. Maybe because it's been around a long time? There's nothing offensive about their beer, but there's nothing noteworthy about it either. It's beer you could give your Mom, your Grandpa, your Dad, or your younger sibling that just turned 21 and they would all say "huh...uh...not bad". For me...that's almost worse than if I disliked their beer. This beer is aimless. It has no vision. It's unchallenging, it's middle-of-the-road. It doesn't have convictions. Maybe you don't care about that though. I thought the taproom at the brewery might have some more racy/unique/challenging/innovative beers. Well, they did have some unique beers only available at the brewery but, they were just OK. A-OK. Fine. Alaskan Brewing beer is fine. The taproom itself was bright and clean. Almost too bright and clean. It almost felt more like you were in a Target store than in a brewery taproom. Easily the best thing about this place were the staff. Super-attentive and super bubbly. They reminded me of camp counselors. Unless, like me, you are just coming here to check a box so you can say you went to every brewery in Alaska...there really isn't much reason to come here. It's not really close to anything. Coming here would be a special trip. I'd highly recommend you go the breweries in downtown Juneau or in Auke Bay instead. They've got character and individuality. Also, can we talk about how it's odd that the name is 'Alaskan' Brewing rather than 'Alaska' Brewing? That's generally used to referred to a resident of Alaska, not as an adjective? Being in Alaska you would think fish isn't as expensive as other states, however, it was a tiny piece of fish for a pretty large price. Spent some time in Juneau when we docked (via cruise). Decided on this restaurant to grab something "light" in that we weren't that hungry. We were greeted warmly, and the server was very nice. Not a big eating area, but quite sufficient; outside seating is also available. I ordered the clam chowder; my husband ordered the wings and pretzel sticks. My clam chowder was oh so yummy. Not sure of their secret, but the chowder was delicious! We weren't too crazy about the sauce on the wings, but they were decent wings. Can't go wrong with warm pretzels. :o) Overall, we enjoyed our "lunch." Note, apparently this place is famous for its beer, but since we don't do beer, we can't comment on that! read more

After visiting Mendenhall Glacier this past July, my Dad and I ventured over to Alaskan Brewing Company to do a beer tasting. We met our "guide" in the public tasting room and then moved back to the private tasting room. Our "guide" was Laura from Colorado and she did an amazing job of explaining the history of the company in addition to the craft of craft beer. It was actually a really informative tasting and I loved hearing about how to company got started in addition to employee brew opportunities. After our tastings in the private room, we went back into the public tasting room and met expert Ted and manager Will. Our tasting at Alaskan Brewing Company was definitely a highlight of our trip. I'd definitely recommend checking out the tasting coupon in the Alaska Tour Saver book (buy one tasting, get one tasting free in the 2019 book). This was a particularly special stop because my Dad fell in love with the Alaskan Amber over our five week trip and it was neat to learn so much about the awesome, environmentally friendly brewery that brews it! read more

Between allllll the beer, the seltzers the canned cocktails, and the zero proof drinks there was something for everyone. Combined with three food trucks with fish, pizza and burger options our entire group wanted for nothing. Great little patio with plenty of room to spread out eat and drink. read more

This review pertains to the taproom of Alaskan Brewing itself as the location for this Yelp entry is the location for the taproom. This taproom isn't easy to reach if you are on foot or coming from the cruise ships to see Juneau. You will need a bus, a rental or get a ride to the taproom somehow to enjoy this taproom. The taproom has a lot of their flagship beers that you can get bottled in the continental states as well as more limited batches or exclusives for the taproom as well. My main focus was on those types of beers since they aren't easily obtainable. These types of beers I really enjoyed like a Cold IPA for example which is rapidly becoming my favorite IPA at the moment, a Strawberry Haze IPA which was extremely limited and was very enjoyable to have. I believe the last one is a little more common, the Citrus Wheat which was good as well. Always enjoy those wheat beers! The Depot downtown is a clothing store for Alaskan Brewing's merchandise but they have a decent selection of clothing here as well. It's about the same inventory you'd see at the Depot. There is a nearby food truck which is fortunate and you can come back to the taproom and enjoy your meal with a beer! read more

Great beer, terrible food. We ordered smoked salmon and smoked halibut. It LOOKED pretty appetizing, but it was all bad. The halibut came out cold as the fridge they pulled it from. We got a replacement, but it just tasted like an over cooked piece of halibut. No smoke flavor and so dry. The bbq sauce would have helped moisten it, but they barely put a teaspoon on it. The salmon was inedible. Two, 1 ounce tail pieces about 1/4 in thick and I'm guessing over-microwaved on the reheat as it was like jerky cardboard. It literally made a knocking sound when I tapped my plastic fork against it. We thought maybe it was a fluke on our salmon, but a guest next to us that ordered it said theirs was terrible as well. In hindsight after ordering and re-reviewing the menu, it's obvious everything is heated in a microwave and someone in the kitchen doesn't know how to use said microwave. Our male server seemed disinterested. He left halfway through service and we had a female server finish the transaction. She was friendly and polite and I wish we'd had her from the start. Would I come back? No. The beer is great, but you can buy it in a store. The food should have been a nice compliment to the beers, but instead it ruined the experience altogether. read more

After running around we decided we needed some cold beers to top off our afternoon we were passing by & decided to come inside. Drinks they did not have the Juneau juice which I was disappointed since I wanted to try it while visiting Juneau & what better place than at the actual brewery we started with the Husky , this was great it has hints of fruit flavors of tangerine & papaya & at 7% alcohol hard to go wrong with trying this one it was great. Next we tried the Smash galaxy this is more of a malt which is more bitter & hoppy typically I am not a fan of these kinds but taste wise I enjoyed it & at 8.5% alcohol it was even better, after a ew rounds needless to say we had quite the nice buzz leaving the brewery. We did a little bit of shopping , the staff was super nice & friendly nice location , different choices on tap, u can also buy to go , this was a great way to spend some time checking out the brewery. I did End up buying some Juneau juice which is a limited edition & I must say it was great, nice light taste but at 7.5% alcohol u will really have quite the nice buzz, I really enjoyed it too bad I can't get this back home in New York!! read more

This was by far the best brewery tasting we have been on. We signed up at the Alaskan Brewery Depot in downtown Juneau. It was $25 pp and we boarded a van with the friendly driver, Keith, who gave us some Alaska/Juneau trivia on the 15 min. ride to the actual brewery. There we had Tammy give us the history of the brewery & 3 full cold beer samples to try. We tried the Amber Ale, their signature beer, which was very tasty and went down smooth. Our 2nd beer was the Alaskan White and I already knew I loved this one. It was light with a hint of orange and coriander. (I've been drinking it on the cruise ship for the last 3 days). Our final sample was the Husky IPA. I don't usually like IPAs however I really enjoyed this one. After our tasting we went to the sample room where we had three bottle caps to redeem for three more beers of our choice. I tried the tangerine IPA which was another really good IPA, not too hoppy, the Alaskan Kolsch, and also the Alaskan Blonde. All were really good and tasty without being harsh. I would really recommend this tour and all the Alaskan Brewery products! Just wish we had them in Florida! read more

Unique Brewery Tour in Juneau A Brewery tour for $25 per person, Glacial-fed water Beer and a tasting room. Sign me up. After some advanced research, the brewery tour was high on my radar on a short stopover in Juneau. Location: From the port area, there is an Alaskan Brewery store where you can buy merchandise and tickets for their Brewery tour. There is a van which will take you to the brewery location. On our ride in the van. The driver was extremely friendly and helpful to tell us about Juneau and Alaska in general after a 10 to 15 minute ride. We were at the Brewery. As you enter the Brewery, you go into the original area where the dream of Alaskan Brewery started with the microbrew kit. Alaskan Brewing Co. started with two founders and about ten people. Since then, it has become one of the most award-winning craft breweries in the history of the Great American Beer Festival. Impressive! They now distribute their beers to 20 states. Tour: The first brewery in Juneau since Prohibition. With a small group of four people, our tour was intimate and conversational as we learned the brewery history. The most interesting was part about how everyone at the brewery can create their own brews. It turns out some of the most successful recent brews have been various staff throughout the company. After our thirty minutes talk and a tasting of three different beers, Alaskan Amber, their first beer, Alaskan White, "Belgian-style witbier" which translates to "white beer." and Icy Bay IPA. Then, we moved to the tasting room where we go four bottle caps which can be redeemed for four more tastings. There were a lot of varieties but we went with Aurora Cherryalis, Husky IPA, Baltic Porter, and Smoked Porter. Overall I regret not buying some merchandise but I enjoyed all of the flavors of different beers. The two porters had a strong taste and I would leave them to the last beers to taste. read more

While we were in Juneau, we went to an Alaskan Brewing Tour. We headed over to their downtown "Alaskan Brewing Depot" where you can purchase the tour, and then the shuttle will take you directly to the brewery. As soon as walked in, we saw shiny brewing equipment behind a large window. A room next to it was the first tasting room for the tasting tour. It was small and cozy. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny too. He told us great information about the company, founders and the beers. In this room, we got to taste three different beers on tap. Alaskan Amber, Alaskan White, and Icy Bay IPA. All different and unique, and all very tasty. The greatest thing about these beers is that they are made from glacier-fed water from Juneau Ice Field! After that, we moved to another room with full selections of their beer offerings. We were given beer bottle caps, which are used as tokens for the tastings. In here, we got Aurora Cherryalis, Husky IPA, Baltic Porter, and Smoked Porter. We had soooooo much beer here, it was crazy! It was certainly worth every penny and more. I am not a heavy beer drinker, and I drank so much more beer than I could handle... One of the best brewery tours we've ever been on for sure!
