The explanation was that none of the cooks speak English which is why the orders don't come out correct. The hour wait is what is customary and so no explanation was given. June 4, 2024 It's not often that I get good service at Auke Bay Cafe but today Libby and Cadence (or caden) were absolutely lovely ! They were both so kind and so bubbly and happy so early in the morning which was refreshing. They made the cafe feel so lively ! I got the chicken and waffles which is my husbands favorite and he said it was particularly delicious today and it looked the best that it ever has. The waffle was perfectly golden and the chicken was so crispy and juicy. I tried the 2 egg and bacon plate this time. Not my usual order but it was DELICIOUS. THE BREAKFAST potatoes were super crispy , the bacon and eggs were delicious and the sourdough bread was so soft and yummy ! --- I wish I had gotten pictures of our meals but we ordered to go and ate at work but wow oh wow. Visiting Juneau we took the city bus (only $2 ) to Auke Bay in hope to see some whales . No whales but SO many Eagles!! It was low tide and we were able to walk along a very wide muscles strewn beach. It was beautiful!! After our walk the rain came in (surprise) and we ducked into Auke bay cafe got a wonderful late lunch. Spicy fries, sweet potatoe fries, chili, cod sandwich, cod fish fry, it was all fantastic! This is a diner. No frills, no pretense. It's not cheap either (but not much in Juneau is). That said, you get a lot of food for the price and the view is good. Well, breakfast here was disappointing given the high reviews. First impression: the young man at the register taking orders had to have been high, or just hated his job. I asked if they had sugar free flavors for a latte and he just stared at me confused and said, "I don't think so." So you don't or you just don't want to ask the barista standing next to you? Next, the food. The actual waffles were good but toppings? Would you like some waffle with your sugar? The strawberries were oozing with thick syrup and the apples the same. Literally pie filling. Possibly canned. My husband got the chicken and waffles expecting some house fried chicken and instead it came out as a waffle with a couple breaded chicken strips from the freezer. I remember when they used to be the spot for breakfast kin town. They've been sold and name changed to Auke Bay Cafe. Unfortunately the quality for the food to a hot during the transfer of ownership. The chicken and waffles were extremely disappointing. As others commented it appeared to be a frozen chicken tender that was cut up into nuggets. Nothing seemed to be made fresh except maybe the waffle. We had 5 people total and nothing was worth bragging about. I wouldn't be surprised if I learned that even the waffles are made in advance due to the texture being off as well. They do have a wide range of coffee and tea. read more

We were the only customers in there at the time and I noticed there were multiple tables that needed to be bussed yet the two employees were just hanging out behind the counter. This place has gone way downhill in the last year! It was pretty ok after being taken over by the new owner and I was impressed to see him in the cafe frequently making sure everything was well cared for. That seems to have ended. The last two visits have been awful. Soggy old French fries on a to go order resulted in a call to staff with a ow well that's how thing are attitude. No offer of refund or apology. $100 order and crap food. Yesterdays order was totally screwed up and again no apology. I finally gave up after a hour of waiting and asked for a refund. Only 3 other people there and the clearly just forgot about us. This is sad as it's nice to have a cafe option in Auke bay. read more

Where do I even start? I'm not one to ever leave reviews. Service used to be good for the first few months they were open, now it's just gone downhill. This last experience though, the absolute worst. My friends decided to get dinner here to have a bridesmaids get together to talk about our friends wedding for the first time. It's finals week at the college 100 yards away. after my biochem final, I thought coming after would be a good pick me up. Boy was I wrong. The children working there were maybe sophomores in high school. When I asked what veggies were in the sausage and pepperoni calzone, she asked the chef (valid) but then asked him to tell me instead of doing it herself. Girl, we were literally the only ones there. Taking our time, you weren't in a rush and there was no reason to get shy at that point. I order the calzone (minus olives and mushrooms) and a soda, then the rest of my friends order. Everything was chill until all my friends got their food. Mine never came. Door dash orders were being filled and nothing. No calzone for me! Oh, they did give me my soda though, it was flat af. Eventually I asked if it should be out soon, and their response was, "should be coming out soon, custom orders take a bit longer." I was like, uh... okay. Went back to the booth and checked the time. 40 minutes since I placed my order. My friend went up and ordered ice cream and asked if there was any coconut in the ice cream. They were very rude when she asked to see the ingredients. She has a severe coconut allergy and could have died if she consumed icecream made with coconut milk. Eventually, they got her the ice cream and she (a Goddess that has worked in the service industry for years) asked what their refund policy was since at this point it had been over an hour. The child didn't know and needed to ask her manager. She came out to tell me the chef never got my ticket. She comes back 15 minutes later with a cash refund and said they couldn't refund my card. They only refunded the calzone. Not the soda (fine). But they didn't give me back any tax or the tip I gave. We asked to have my meal put in a Togo box and they responded with, "oh, you still wanted it? the chef never started it. He would need to make the dough." Our coffee orders were hot when we asked for iced, the coffee was given to us after we were done with the food, and this last time they completely forgot our food (we had been waiting for it for well over 35-40min after ordering and two couples that came AFTER us, got their coffee and food before we left without our food)!! Forbidden Peak Brewery was closed (8:00 on a Friday night?) as was the Hot Bite (where we had a good lunch). We popped into the Auke Bay Cafe, thinking we could at least get some ice cream. We ended up enjoying delicious dinners of chicken fettuccine Alfredo and chicken fajitas. The chef really knows his/her stuff! The cafe is on the first floor of an unassuming building across from the marina and there is nothing to tell you that if you step inside, you will have amazing food (and lattes, smoothies, etc.).
