We were pleasantly surprised by our breakfast here. There weren't many other diners there when we went, and the server randomly popped in and out. (Looked like a high school kid... service was good, but maybe it was his first waiting job.) I had the California omelet. Really good-sized portion, fresh avocado, and cooked nicely. The biscuit was delicious. I'm not typically a fan of potatoes, yet they were small and well seasoned. read more

Auke Bay Cafe - California Veggie & Cheese - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Juneau, Alaska

This is a review for breakfast. It opens early and we wanted to get some fuel before we started the day. I had to say that I am disappointed. The place is clean and the menu is well designed. BUT everything is WAY TOO SWEET from the chai tea to crepes to the waffle. Waffle should either be fluffy or crispy but not dense and starchy. I get that we got there right after they opened but the people taking our orders could have used some energy drinks. read more

This charming café is a true hidden gem, deserving every one of its five stars. We started our day here with high hopes and left thoroughly impressed. The apple crepes were a delightful way to kick off our breakfast - warm, perfectly cooked, and brimming with sweet apple goodness. The veggie omelet was a savory masterpiece, with a generous medley of fresh vegetables that made every bite a treat. The coffee was brewed to perfection, and the fresh orange juice was a refreshing addition to our meal. One of the cafe's standout features is its serene atmosphere. Nestled within walking distance of nearby homes, it offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. The courteous staff made our visit even more enjoyable, ensuring we felt right at home. What truly sets this place apart is its delivery service, making it a convenient choice for those who prefer breakfast in bed. Plus, their late opening hours add a unique touch to the area, giving night owls a perfect spot for a late-night bite. In summary, this café is a hidden treasure with top-notch food, a tranquil ambiance, courteous staff, and the convenience of delivery. It's a five-star breakfast experience you don't want to miss! This is a diner. No frills, no pretense. It's not cheap either (but not much in Juneau is). That said, you get a lot of food for the price and the view is good. Plus you order at the counter so you don't have to include a full tip. We had breakfast. Everyone liked everything really. I'm not sure you can go wrong. read more

Ordered food at 9:45. Received the food at 10:45. Order was wrong. We were late for the kids activity next door. The explanation was that none of the cooks speak English which is why the orders don't come out correct. The hour wait is what is customary and so no explanation was given. After the correct food was made I walked out at 11:00. The food was made "too go". read more

June 4, 2024 It's not often that I get good service at Auke Bay Cafe but today Libby and Cadence (or caden) were absolutely lovely ! They were both so kind and so bubbly and happy so early in the morning which was refreshing. They made the cafe feel so lively ! I got the chicken and waffles which is my husbands favorite and he said it was particularly delicious today and it looked the best that it ever has. The waffle was perfectly golden and the chicken was so crispy and juicy. I tried the 2 egg and bacon plate this time. Not my usual order but it was DELICIOUS. THE BREAKFAST potatoes were super crispy , the bacon and eggs were delicious and the sourdough bread was so soft and yummy ! --- I wish I had gotten pictures of our meals but we ordered to go and ate at work but wow oh wow. Those new cooks know what they are doing ! read more

Visiting Juneau we took the city bus (only $2 ) to Auke Bay in hope to see some whales . No whales but SO many Eagles!! It was low tide and we were able to walk along a very wide muscles strewn beach. It was beautiful!! After our walk the rain came in (surprise) and we ducked into Auke bay cafe got a wonderful late lunch. Spicy fries, sweet potatoe fries, chili, cod sandwich, cod fish fry, it was all fantastic! Great service and delivery of our food and an amazing view of the bay and the eagles flying around. I'd show you some pictures but we ate it all immediately read more

Food was good service was fast.. I recommend this place as it is a local restaurant with lots local food

Consistently bad. Ordered through the delivery service and it's worse than a free hotel slop line. The chicken always tastes super weird like it came out of a bag, the alfredo sauce is awful, and everything is low quality and gross. Just icky. Skip it. read more

Auke Bay Cafe took over the space that was for GonZo CULT AK. Currently offering breakfast, lunch, drinks, ice cream; their hours are 0700-1700. Beginning February 17, their hours shall extend to 2100 with dinner service for that time frame offering Mexican food, later followed by Italian food, with a focus on food delivery service for Mendenhall Valley. On our recent visit, we ordered a Denver Omelette, a Garden Salad, shared the dishes. The food quality was good, having the kitchen staff from TK McGaguires. read more

After years of mismanagement as a Waffle House, I think this place has a chance now. I am pleased with the quesadilla and the coffee too.. if it's empty now it's not because of poor service, rather it's likely from overcoming a reputation from the distant past. read more

Food consistently good. Service hit or miss but generally very good, but not a big deal, it's an order at the counter. Ambiance is local cafe, sit down tables, view of the boat launch parking lot and marina with mountains in view from most of the tables. It's been my go-spot for months. read more

Well, breakfast here was disappointing given the high reviews. First impression: the young man at the register taking orders had to have been high, or just hated his job. I asked if they had sugar free flavors for a latte and he just stared at me confused and said, "I don't think so." So you don't or you just don't want to ask the barista standing next to you? Next, the food. The actual waffles were good but toppings? Would you like some waffle with your sugar? The strawberries were oozing with thick syrup and the apples the same. Literally pie filling. Possibly canned. My husband got the chicken and waffles expecting some house fried chicken and instead it came out as a waffle with a couple breaded chicken strips from the freezer. If you like cafeteria food, you'll like this place. read more

I remember when they used to be the spot for breakfast kin town. They've been sold and name changed to Auke Bay Cafe. Unfortunately the quality for the food to a hot during the transfer of ownership. The chicken and waffles were extremely disappointing. As others commented it appeared to be a frozen chicken tender that was cut up into nuggets. Nothing seemed to be made fresh except maybe the waffle. We had 5 people total and nothing was worth bragging about. I wouldn't be surprised if I learned that even the waffles are made in advance due to the texture being off as well. They do have a wide range of coffee and tea. read more

Pretty good place for lunch. Food was good and service decent. Good portions. Location good on the main road.

My family and I ate here and shared a waffle, eggs, bacon, and biscuits and gravy. The food was good and reasonably priced. However, the restaurant was really dirty. The floor needed a good sweeping and the tables and condiment containers were sticky. We were the only customers in there at the time and I noticed there were multiple tables that needed to be bussed yet the two employees were just hanging out behind the counter. The cleanliness of this restaurant kinda ruined it for me. read more

So sad to report, but the restaurant was dirty, and the service was slow. We had to ask for silverware and napkins. My soup was cold and sour as it had possibly turned so I had to send back with no reconciliation of funds returned. Unless things change, I highly recommend not going there. Two stars is generous. read more

I love their shakes with brownie or Oreos added. Red Bull spritzer and Italian soda (pomegranate- blueberry) are really good. I don't even like pomegranate, but it just goes well with the blueberry...they have huge cookie/ice cream sandwiches with ice cream or sherbet (if you like sherbet.) read more

While a little tricky to find, this place was worth the effort! The back parking lot has access to their rear entrance, so just search a little for the sign and you'll find it. The view from the front is spectacular, so try to get a seat by the window if you can! I had the ham and cheese egg waffle, and my husband had the chicken and waffles. Everything was delicious and came out fresh. I would definitely come back. read more

Good food, great coffee, and fast and friendly service. Would definitely be back when I visit Juneau!

Food is good but prices are high, staff seems under trained, food consistently changes in portion and quality.

I dumped out the jam container because my phone died and i wanted something to do with intentions of putting all the containers back and worker pinched my shoulder and ear really hard to the point where i was crying until I put them all back. This went on for at least 2 minutes. read more

Great location. Great views. Food was fresh and good. Nice beer selection. Good place to stop in and enjoy the weather and a snack.

I ordered the chicken and waffles. 15 minutes later a stale waffle and cut up chicken strips come out luke warm. It said "southern style breading" I don't know if anyone up here has gone to the south but those are fighting words. Nice, non-pretentious atmosphere and menu; had a double burger and fries - good food WITH TASTE that I'll return for.

Where do I even start? I'm not one to ever leave reviews. Service used to be good for the first few months they were open, now it's just gone downhill. This last experience though, the absolute worst. My friends decided to get dinner here to have a bridesmaids get together to talk about our friends wedding for the first time. It's finals week at the college 100 yards away. after my biochem final, I thought coming after would be a good pick me up. Boy was I wrong. The children working there were maybe sophomores in high school. When I asked what veggies were in the sausage and pepperoni calzone, she asked the chef (valid) but then asked him to tell me instead of doing it herself. Girl, we were literally the only ones there. Taking our time, you weren't in a rush and there was no reason to get shy at that point. I order the calzone (minus olives and mushrooms) and a soda, then the rest of my friends order. Everything was chill until all my friends got their food. Mine never came. Door dash orders were being filled and nothing. No calzone for me! Oh, they did give me my soda though, it was flat af. Eventually I asked if it should be out soon, and their response was, "should be coming out soon, custom orders take a bit longer." I was like, uh... okay. Went back to the booth and checked the time. 40 minutes since I placed my order. My friend went up and ordered ice cream and asked if there was any coconut in the ice cream. They were very rude when she asked to see the ingredients. She has a severe coconut allergy and could have died if she consumed icecream made with coconut milk. Eventually, they got her the ice cream and she (a Goddess that has worked in the service industry for years) asked what their refund policy was since at this point it had been over an hour. The child didn't know and needed to ask her manager. She came out to tell me the chef never got my ticket. She comes back 15 minutes later with a cash refund and said they couldn't refund my card. They only refunded the calzone. Not the soda (fine). But they didn't give me back any tax or the tip I gave. We asked to have my meal put in a Togo box and they responded with, "oh, you still wanted it? the chef never started it. He would need to make the dough." The five of us just looked at her dumbfounded and left. I went upstairs to the bar and ordered food. Eating my delicious burger as I write this. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk. read more

This place has gone way downhill in the last year! It was pretty ok after being taken over by the new owner and I was impressed to see him in the cafe frequently making sure everything was well cared for. That seems to have ended. The last two visits have been awful. Soggy old French fries on a to go order resulted in a call to staff with a ow well that's how thing are attitude. No offer of refund or apology. $100 order and crap food. Yesterdays order was totally screwed up and again no apology. I finally gave up after a hour of waiting and asked for a refund. Only 3 other people there and the clearly just forgot about us. This is sad as it's nice to have a cafe option in Auke bay. read more

Great food across the board, especially the fried cod, Caesar salads. And they make an excellent real cappuccino, not a latte that's called a cappuccino, (i.e. they don't use too much milk). read more

We have now stopped at Auke Bay Cafe several times and every single one of those times we encountered bad service! Our coffee orders were hot when we asked for iced, the coffee was given to us after we were done with the food, and this last time they completely forgot our food (we had been waiting for it for well over 35-40min after ordering and two couples that came AFTER us, got their coffee and food before we left without our food)!! They also made zero effort to check in on our order after I asked about it (30min after ordering). read more

What a great surprise! It was 8:00 p.m. and we were in Auke Bay looking for a place to eat. Forbidden Peak Brewery was closed (8:00 on a Friday night?) as was the Hot Bite (where we had a good lunch). We popped into the Auke Bay Cafe, thinking we could at least get some ice cream. We ended up enjoying delicious dinners of chicken fettuccine Alfredo and chicken fajitas. The chef really knows his/her stuff! The cafe is on the first floor of an unassuming building across from the marina and there is nothing to tell you that if you step inside, you will have amazing food (and lattes, smoothies, etc.). But I highly recommend you go there. There are plenty of choices on the menu. read more
