Big country breakfast.
Matthew U.

Before the whole state lock down I would frequent this place. Especially in the early hours of the morning when I was stuck at work the night before. Usually I wouldn't even give this place a second glance because where it sits it looks completely out of place. The restaurants sits in among a car dealership. Let me back peddle a bit first. When this restaurant was first built, where it sits use to be a shopping plaza that had a variety of stores to kind of do a one stop shop. Valley Dairy wasn't the only place for food in the plaza, a Long John Silver's used to be next door. However the plaza didn't fair well and everything went away and the whole plaza, Long John Silver's included, turned into a car dealership, so there you have it. Valley Dairy is a small regional chain that kind of follows the likes of Eat'n Park and Denny's. They offer your typical cheap diner eats, with the choice to get breakfast all day. Hence why I had started to frequent this on my trek home from work in the morning. After working nearly sixteen hours I know myself and not wanting to fall asleep on the way home I always stop to fill up myself. You walk in and are greeted, wait to be seated and once seated you get a few moments to look over the menu. Server will show up and take your drink order and let you to the menu to check it over one or two more times. But with my frequency of coming here in the morning, I have been getting the same thing over and over again. You can't go wrong with it, Big Country Breakfast is definitely the way to go. With the Big Country Breakfast, you can mix and match and not have the same breakfast each time you venture here. With this meal you get your choice of waffles, French toast, or pancakes. Your choice of how the eggs are cooked. Hash browns or home fries. Choice of bacon, sausage or ham. You also get your selection of toast. As you can see from the picture, it is one hearty meal. I went with the pancakes, you get three, hash brown, bacon, scrambled eggs and wheat toast. I am not going to lie to you, I ate the whole thing each time I have been here. Everything comes out piping hot. Lots of butter for your pastry of choice and syrup. Toast is already buttered, but there is an assortment of jellies on the table if you so desire. This meal will take you a good amount of time to down, but it is totally worth it. This meal has gotten me the rest of the way home after that long shift at work. Staff are amazing, always checking up and tending to your needs. I also want to say they are impressed if you finish this meal as well.

2 Biscuits & Sausage Gravy along with the Weekday Special with 2 eggs.

Amazing breakfast! Tasty and hot! The service was very good and it was a real comfortable environment to enjoy a good meal.

This is one of those iconic places that sits along a road that has longed since been bypassed by…read morethe newer highway up the road. But that does not stop it from existing. You can come here at any time during their hours throughout the warmer months (closed for winter time months), and it will be a hard feat to accomplish with the amount of people waiting just like you are. This place has been hear for years and years. I can remember coming here while I was still in elementary school. Not much has changed since then, which to me is a great thing. The building is still that funky shaped one that you can recognize from up the road, or that building people use in their directions (I love Southwestern Pennsylvania for that reason alone). The only seating available here is outdoor seating or standing room only, but when you pull up for some ice cream, you usually don't care if you have a seat or not. Attached to this place is putt-putt course (miniature golf for the rest of you). It's old, it's rugged, it's AWESOME! It does look run down, but no one here cares, what they care about is getting that hole-in-one on the eighteenth hole so they win that free game, a great reason to come back. The food here is a great mix of roadside ice cream parlor meets carhop. Everything you can think of is here, from burgers to milkshakes. As for me, I gave them such a run for their money here. Forgetting my allergies for a brief moment here, I had them running around to find out what their food items were made out of (sad note people, if you have allergies, some of the items may not be for you). But in the end, they were able to accommodate me and my needs. As I munched away on my food while sitting in the sunlight I thought to myself, "Man, I really want to play some putt-putt." But that will have to wait for another day. *CASH ONLY

I thought…read moreI'd try to find somewhere to get a legendary Latrobe banana split, as this is where they were created. But when I looked up ice cream places in the area on Yelp, I saw a picture of a wildly large cone from here and this had to be the place. It turns out it was only a mile or two from where I was, and I can't believe I haven't found it sooner! I pulled in promptly when they were opening at 11:30 and the server was helpful and fast. I asked if that enormous cone was a size large and she said yes, so I ordered that in the rotating twist flavors of coconut and blueberry and also got a baby cup of vanilla soft serve for my dog, which for a baby cup was enormous. Together they were under $5. So fair! We went to sit in a nice covered patio area. There's a lot of outdoor seating space! While we were sitting, the place started to get busy with people coming for lunch as well as ice cream. They were ordering things like burgers and quesadillas from what looked like nice grill menu. At the prices here, I'm not surprised that I saw a couple of large families come to eat. I mentioned this to a friend who lives in the area and she never realized they have food. Maybe they don't publicize that on their socials enough and they should, everything very good. My ice cream was creamy and delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. This will probably become a go-to stop for me on this frequent trip !
