Stopped in for the first time yesterday and enjoyed the meal... It was an overall good experience, the meals we had were all well made and received hot and fresh. My wife had their chicken dinner while I had their massive veggie stromboli. For dessert my wife enjoyed their chocolate cherry cake while I had the S'More Cheesecake - it was delicious. I've had good experiences in the past, which made this visit especially disappointing. The service from some of the younger staff came across as very unprofessional and immature. I understand that some employees are young and still in high school, but I still expect basic politeness, professionalism, and pride in their work. I was also uncomfortable with the noticeable smell of marijuana coming from some of the staff. I can't say whether anyone was actually under the influence, but the smell was strong enough to notice and felt inappropriate in a restaurant. I'm not expecting perfection, but I do expect a certain level of professionalism. First time visit to Ravaila's. Arrived at 5:00 on a Saturday. A lot of cars in the parking lot. I took as a good sign. Once inside, I noted how the servers and hostesses were all busy clearing tables and serving guests. After a very short wait, we were seated and the hostess took our drink order. Soon our server, Alondra, appeared to take our orders. Hot turkey dinner and hot roast beef dinner with onion rings. The menu had a large variety of food and we were watching the food coming out of the kitchen. The stuffed green peppers, pizza and burgers all looked good. Soon, our dinners arrived and looking/smelling good. Shortly after receiving dinners, our server, Alondra, checked in with us to ensure we were satisfied with dinner and refilling beverages. The roast beef and turkey dinners both had a good amount food. Mashed potatoes and a lot of gravy were a good accent. After dinner, we noticed the chalkboard dessert selections of deluxe carrot cake. We asked what "deluxe" carrot cake was? She told us it's the pineapple filling. Immediately, we ordered one piece and was not disappointed. We recommend this restaurant. read more

This the second time in a row that my wife got a Stromboli to go with sausage mushrooms and onions. Could be wrong. but I think they went to canned mushrooms. We wanted to go to Ravaila's last night. We looked online and it said they were open till 8. We drove down from Indiana and found out that they are closed on Monday. We were looking for a place to stop on trips to Pittsburgh. This is a quick off and on route 22 - a few miles. The white pizza was yummy. Lots of chesese, piping hot, and the crust was delicious with just the right balance of fluff and crisp. Fries were undercooked - soggy instead of crispy, but the taste was good. My first visit and it won't be my last! Delicious Italian based foods are abundant on the menu making it hard to choose just one. Also lots of fried favorites and good old fashioned comfort foods if Italian isn't your thing. We had two appetizers for the table. We chose onion rings and fried dill pickle spears. Both were very good. Although I burnt the roof of my mouth biting into the fried pickle, it was worth it. As an entree I chose the Thursday special, which was Aglio Olio gnocchis with your choice of grilled chicken or hot sausage. I chose chicken and it was delicious! My friend had it with the sausage and enjoyed it as well. The servings were generous and we took about half of it home in take out containers. Desserts are home made and we had the pistachio cheesecake. It put us over the edge! Service was very good. Our waitress was attentive and pleasant. And the entire staff was very accommodating to our party of five. Decor is quaint. This isn't a place to go to be impressed with the ambiance, rather a solid dining choice because of the quality of the food and service. The restrooms were clean and smelled of bleach, which I kind of like. They are one-ers. My only complaint is that I wish they had provided a bag for the takeout boxes. My Aglio Olio leaked all over the car seat and my Italian leather handbag. Ugh! read more

Home style cooking and casual atmosphere is the best way to describe what is offered at this restaurant. Husband and I have eaten here a few times when we are in the area. Lots of local patrons eating in or picking up takeout. The lunch and dinner specials are listed on a blackboard, but menus are offered, too. I have heard that the pizza is good, but I have yet to try it. We stopped in one cold evening and had a nice relaxing meal. Husband ordered hot roast beef with mashed potatoes. I chose rigatoni with meatball which came with a side salad. The salad was enough to fill me up and I ended up taking half my rigatoni home. I chose a piece of red velvet cake to take home, also. It was delicious. All in all, a nice meal on a frigid, snowy night. Next time, pizza will be ordered. read more

It was really good, I took some customers there while in the next town over. The pepper jack cheese balls things were awesome. I had the salmon BLT (minus the T, tomatoes are disgusting). Beautifully decorated for the winter holidays, Ravaila's welcomed our large group on a weekend. The menu was varied enough to accommodate both lactose-intolerant and gluten-intolerant guests. The appetizers of course are heavy on fried carbs, such as the famous breadsticks. The cheese and chili dips were good; I thought the marinara was just okay. I also wished the house salads had come on mixed greens rather than iceberg lettuce. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, which have generous servings (e.g. two chicken breast patties). We tried the personal pizza, smothered chicken, rigatoni, haddock, and I think a Tuscan chicken. No one had room for dessert, and many people took home boxes of leftovers. My Son treated me for my birthday he had the home made cheese wedges they were awesome he had chicken parm it a big hand breaded chicken breast lightly breaded and served over a large helping of spaghetti . I had the Chicken Cordon bleu. It was amazing ! The portions are so big I had extra for the next day lunch . The chicken breast was huge and lightly breaded and fried perfectly, very tender and juicy . It was topped with baked ham it was very good ham and then smothered with a cheese Alfredo sauce . The missus and I were torn between here and Papa Sal's tonight as we wanted a nice Italian meal, but we quickly realized we made a mistake in our choice. The restaurant was nearly empty as it was us and one other couple, yet it still took an overwhelmingly long amount of time to be served. We ordered an order of the Fried Cheese as an appetizer, and despite the long wait, it quickly became our favorite part of the meal. After nearly a half hour, our pasta dishes arrived. I ordered the Gnocchi with Alfredo Sauce and thought the portions were small and the noodles were overcooked, but I ate it anyways and enjoyed the flavor of the sauce. The missus ordered the Spaghetti and Meatballs and solidified my opinion on the overcooked pasta. Her pasta was significantly more overcooked than mine and was as she said "inedible". The hostess was understanding and offered us a free dessert, which was good, but did not come close to covering the overwhelmingly expensive meal. If you are in the mood for Italian and are torn between Ravalia's and Papa Sal's, choose the latter. read more

After being stuck in Blairsville for two weeks, depression started setting in due to a major lack of any decent food in the area. Then I discovered this quirky little place with its downtown storefront window, giant specials chalkboard and friendly service. Then there's the food. The glorious food! A good selection to chose from albeit some strange concoctions had me wondering what to try first. The portobello appetizer was just grand with its red peppers, feta and balsamic glaze. I could've stopped there but I heard raves about the burger so I had to indulge. With my first bite my face was covered with juice from the never frozen patty. Sooo good. I never like hand cut fries but these were done right. Hot and crispy exterior with a fluffy interior and not a drop of grease to be found. I can't wait to go back tonight. read more

First Time. My husband was dressed like a camp counselor and didn't feel out of place. There were colorable kids menus with crayons and it was busy enough that the noise from my three kids didn't draw too much attention. It's a little pricey for the area, and what it is. The staff was cold but, after a few weeks in Blairsville, we've come to expect that. I ordered the Pittsburgh Salad with Crispy Chicken. It was excellent. The chicken was very moist and there were many nice toppings. The kids had spaghetti and my son would have had a second bowl, if he could have. My husband said the meat on his Monte Cristo was excellent, but the sandwich overall was dry and needed some sort of sauce. I applaud this little restaurant. Homemade dressing and fresh cut fries. I had the rigatoni special and the was pasta slightly overdone and the sauce was too sweet for my taste but it was not bad. They had nightly specials and the pizza looked off the charts. Hubby had the Reuben. It could easily feed two people. They brought out a hot bread stick with pasta and butter (I hope). Pleasant staff and quick service. I'm so glad I ventured off 22 and away from all that fast food. We want to stop again on our way to Penn State and try some more items.
