    California Burrito

Drive thru is super easy and convenient, big portions. We got the Cali burrito and a fish taco which were market price. No complaints, would be back. They even have some covered patio seating facing the street .

Falling apart after a few bites

Updated dating. Tried this place a second time. Although food seems to be fresh (drive thru took 10 minutes - no line), the California burrito was very disappointing. This didn't taste like what it was. It was overwhelming amount of pico and a very wet burrito. The tortilla was not able to hold up and a few bites in, stared to fall apart and rip at different sections. A total mess. Flavor on carne asada fries was good like the first time. Lady at the window was nice and gave all the salsas.

Note: This is actually a 1 star review. I am leaving 2 stars so that it cannot be deleted by business owners. Since moving in the area a little over 3 years ago, I have eaten at this place many times. This is just a small, no nonsense taco shops style place with a few inside and outside benches for dining in. I have never eaten at the shop. Although the food is usually not good, I kept giving them a chance based on ONE visit when the food was actually fresh and the meat was actually tender and edible. Usually the rolled tacos are mushy and cold in the middle, and the meat from the carne asada and Cali burros is as tough as an old, dry leather belt that has been lying out in the sun for several years! Because I was tired and didn't feel like driving too far, I decided to give this place one last try. HUGE mistake. I actually felt it in my gut and told myself to walk out and go elsewhere as soon as I entered the door. There were 3 men "working" there speaking in Spanish and laughing. I stood there waiting to order for what seemed like an eternity. Although they all saw me, they ignored me and continued to carry on with their conversation. I was finally asked what I wanted to order after close to two minutes had passed. They looked at me as if upset and irritated that I had interrupted their conversation. I placed my order and served myself a few containers of salsa at the indoor salsa bar and just as I was going to sit down, I was told my order was ready, which was very confusing. How in the world had they prepared an order of rolled tacos and a Cali burro so quickly!?!? I commented that it had been a quick order and took my bag and left. I got home and opened the bag to find the burrito had not been properly wrapped and was just sitting out, bare, in the bag. I opened the container if rolled tacos and was horrified to find BLACK guacamole on top of the rolled tacos. I went to pick one up and it was cold to the touch and actually broke apart due to being so mushy. I cut the burrito in half to find soggy, undercooked fries and barely any meat inside. Mind you, this place's prices are anywhere from $4-$8 more than typical taco shops. Their burritos should be full of meat!!! I immediately called the restaurant to inform them about my order and to demand a refund. They told me to make sure I saved the food and brought it back to them. Not a problem. No way I was about to eat that old, disgusting food! It was trash!!! Fast forward to the next day, I returned the food, and although I had the food as well as photos with timestamps to prove what the food looked like right after I received it, along with my original receipts, the workers questioned me multiple times and called out 2 other people to observe the food and my receipts. It was honestly ridiculous. I contemplated having the order replaced. However, after witnessing their odd behavior, I decided to stick with requesting a refund. This is not a place I can recommend. The food quality and taste are just horrible, and considering what they charge, it's just not right!!! Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this place. We have so many great taco shops that are consistent in serving customers affordable food that is good in quality and taste. There is no need to settle for places like this.

You can dine inside or order Drive thru. Drive Thrus are always great. Open 24/7. (4) Beef Rolled Taquitos and Shredded Beef Chimichanga $23. The flavors were there! Very delicious and hit the spot. There was only one person ahead of us. They have trademark items on the menu.

The food is decent for a taco shop, as it has gotten worse since my initial review. The customer service has become worse as well . They messed up my order again, and accidentally gave me someone else's order when I picked up my food. When I got home and opened the containers, I noticed and immediately called them. They told me to bring it back. I asked if they were going to compensate me for now having to waste time and gas to come back for their mistake, they said no. I told them they should give some type of compensation for the trouble, so they said to keep the other order. When I returned to the store for my correct order, they looked at the food and just threw it in the trash. Waste! When they gave me my new order, one of the other people working there shockingly accused me of taking the other persons order. I said no, it was handed to me. She replied why didn't I bring it back then, and I said I was told to keep it. (They likely would have thrown that away as well. More waste of food and money.) I have tried multiple to call their manager as this wasn't the first incident . He doesn't answer, or return your call. Very poor customer relations.

Super greasy Philly Burrito that the tortilla fell apart. All veggies hardly any meat. Rice filled with so many vegetables, hard and bland.
    Daniel A.

The food was horrible. Ordered Philly steak burrito and side of rice. Rice was bland and hard. Also it had so many vegetables, who puts Lima beans in Spanish rice!!! The Philly burrito was disgusting and inedible. Greasy, no flavor or seasoning, and tasted burned. Tortilla fell apart because of the grease and all full of veggies hardly any meat. What of waste of $20. Will never go back again and will give world of mouth to family and friends not to come here so that they don't have the same experience and waste their money. Never again

I am shocked at the low star rating this drive thru Mexican food restaurant has. I stopped here on an absolute whim after I got a coffee at the Starbucks next door. All I ordered was a Carnitas Burrito. I was able to get my food really quickly. The cashier did not ask me if I wanted salsa, luckily they had just put two green and two orange salsas in my bag, along with a good amount of napkins. My burrito was excellent! It was huge and jam packed full of carnitas meat as well as guacamole and pico de gallo. The carnitas burrito was really satisfying and really delicious. I never ever order a Carnitas Burrito when I stop at Mexican food drive thrus, I am usually a Carne Asada Burrito gal, but I wanted to switch it up and I am so glad I did.

Not only was all the food amazing, but the portions were generous and made for some great leftovers. My parents were in town so we were out to dinner together and we all got different dishes and each one was better than the next. The quesadilla was probably the best thing we had. Our server was attentive and quick while still giving time to be friendly. When they were out of a couple items for the drinks we wanted, she was ready with alternatives and always offered to at least double check in case there was something they could do. My dad even got a little preview of a new version of their Old Fashioned since they were in the process of phasing out the old one and were out of one of the ingredients.

It came with a yummy almond galleta dusted with powdered sugar. The coffee was perfect. I dipped my cookie in my coffee and truly it was the perfect bite plus perfect treat as I waited for my food because I was HUNGRY! Our food took a while to arrive it was a Saturday morning at brunch but it wasn't crowded. The wait was the kind of wait you do where you look at the tables around you to see who has food and who doesn't and wonder what was the seating order of the folks around you and if they got their food before you and why. So when my food arrived I was sooooo ready! I ordered the chorizo and crispy potatoes burrito. It looked great when it arrived! I strategically cut my burrito about a quarter of the way in. I knew I would at least eat a quarter but I knew I definitely wouldn't eat the whole thing and I didn't want to waste a perfectly good bite on all tortilla. I cut my burrito and put a bite on my fork and as I put my food in my mouth I looked down and find a long curly hair. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. I was disappointed for several reasons. 1. The bite I took was all egg and tortilla. No cheese no chorizo no potato. 2. I was starving! And 3. I knew I wasn't going to have anything to eat until after the other two people I was with finished eating and I could go somewhere else to get food. I didn't let it damper my mood. I showed the waiter who was very apologetic and took my plate away. When he walked away. It hit me I didn't tell him to not bring me anything else because I was going to eat a remade burrito. So I got his attention because I didn't want them to waste anymore food. Here is what I will say. To replace my food, I was given a pastry platter that was AMAZINGLY good! The concha was legit the best I've ever eaten. The banana bread was delicious with delicious toasted pecans which added a caramelized texture to the banana bread! No joke, it was so good. What I will also say is that I was visited with no less than 3 people including Gabriela herself who was absolutely apologetic about my experience and assured me it wouldn't happen again. What's also nice is that I wasn't charged for the food I ate which believe it or not has happened to me before MANY years ago. My peeps whom I was with absolutely loved their food. One had the Sopes and the other had the huevos rancheros. So while I have to be honest about my review, I really think this was a one off mistake and at the very least I would highly suggest ordering cafecito and pastries from Casa Gabriela!

The tortilla can't hold the generous helping of chicken, which has a great flavor. By the time I finished the second one, and all of the chicken, onion and cilantro that spilled from the tacos, I was full. (I'm a senior citizen and I eat less now than I used to, so YMMV). I like their chicken tacos a lot better than Sombrero's chicken taco a la plancha, which has been my go to for lunch for years. That said, my wife prefers the California burrito at Sombrero, since the one from Chuy's had more fries than meat. The pollo asado quesadilla was very filling and very tasty (plenty of meat). Chuy's is right next door to Funky Burgers, and given the fresh food aspect of Chuy's offerings, I'd say Chuy's is probably better for you.

I ordered a California burrito and asked to swap in adobado pork. No hesitation, no side‑eye, just a nod and a "you got it." That alone puts them ahead of half the shops in the county. The burrito itself delivered. The adobado came through with that deep red glow and smoky tang, the kind of flavor that feels like it's been tended to, not rushed. Fold that into fries, cheese, and a tortilla doing quiet, reliable work, and you get a bite that hits all the right notes. Rich, bright, salty, satisfying. It's a simple thing done well, which is exactly what you want from a neighborhood taco shop. Chuy's isn't trying to reinvent the wheel. They're just making a damn good burrito and treating you right while they do it.

I've also heard rave reviews from family and friends. Since we were suit shopping at Fashion Valley and were hanging out with my son and his girlfriend, I recommended that we eat at Chuy's for lunch. If you're a fan of value for your money and tasty Mexican food, I definitely recommend dining here. 4.5 stars for sure, but I'm glad our go to Mexican food spot, Yesenia's, is closer to us and we can visit there for amazing Mexican food as well. Chuy's Taco Shop is located in Rolando, which is close to El Cajon Blvd. and the San Diego State University area. The easiest way to get here would be the 8 freeway east or west, exiting off of 70th Street, and heading south. The taco shop is located within a small strip mall where you can find Ben & Esther's Vegan Jewish Deli, San Diego Blenders Smoothies, and Moxie Theatre. It's across the street from a tire shop. From the outside, it looks like a typical local San Diego Mexican fast food joint, but you can immediately tell that the owners are proud of their accolades displaying Guy Fieri's DDD mug and Yelp's 2025 Top 100 Places To Eat distinction on its front glass window. As you step inside, you'll see several homages to Guy Fieri of DDD fame with a framed signed picture, another framed signed pic with Guy's caricature, and one of their televisions showing the DDD episode featuring Chuy's. There's a good amount of tables and chairs to dine in, several televisions, distressed laminate wood flooring, and accolades hanging on their walls that the restaurant has garnered. Friendly and professional customer service from the lady behind the register, who also doubled as our server. Not sure anything can be done about this, but flies also liked Chuy's food as we had to keep fanning our food. I've been blessed to eat at several DDD restaurants throughout California, Nevada, and Arizona and I have enjoyed every single one I dined at. Having eaten at Chuy's Taco Shop for the first time, I understand why Guy Fieri did a segment here. What I really appreciated about Chuy's was their value for your money. When you dine here, be prepared for large portions, so definitely come hungry. Whenever I eat at any Mexican fast food spot, I order the same go to items that my family and I order at our favorite restaurant Yesenia's. Since I was breaking bread with my wife, son, and his girlfriend, we ordered the following: two carne asada burritos; five rolled tacos with cheese, guacamole, and lettuce; full order carne asada chips; half order of carne asada fries; and a pineapple agua fresca. I wanted to compare what we typically order from Yesenia's. When you eat at Chuy's, the amount of food you get will feed an army. I didn't expect the carne asada burritos to be the length of my forearm. I got to eat some of my son's and it was delicious and satisfying. The star of our meal were the rolled tacos. It was stuffed full with tasty beef, crunchy, and its components were memorable. We barely touched the carne asada chips because we ordered too much, but they aren't stingy with their carne asada both for the chips and their fries. The half order of carne asada fries were plenty and I enjoyed that dish. The pineapple drink was refreshing and helped beat the toasty weather. I still feel Yesenia's is better quality, but for the amount of food at Chuy's, it's a must visit Mexican restaurant. I'm glad I got to finally experience Chuy's Taco Shop and check off another Guy Fieri featured DDD restaurant. If I'm in the area, I will definitely stop by to try their other menu items, but I'm glad our fave Mexican fast food spot is closer to us to satisfy our Mexican food cravings.

Walking into Panchos, you are immediately greeted by a bright, colorful and welcoming scene. It gives you the feeling of walking into your tía's favorite old school restaurant. The tables and benches are dark wood. And there is papel picado hanging. It's charming. You get the feeling that Panchos has been around for decades. Apparently, the restaurant has been open here since 2004. And the real star? Our server, whose name I cannot recall. He was equal parts waiter and comedian, a very kind man who was highly attentive and extremely helpful. If you like spicy salsa, be sure to tell him to bring you the good stuff from the back (after he offers you bland Tapatio). The menu is absolutely massive. They have breakfast burritos, breakfast plates, chips and fries, shrimp plates, soups (check with the team about offerings, like caldo de res), tortas, quesadillas and a kid's menu and more. I highly recommend the cheese enchiladas and the chile relleno. The chile relleno is especially good. It isn't your soggy, cafeteria-style relleno drowned in red sauce and regret. It is the best comfort food, and Panchos does it well. There is a generous melt of Oaxacan cheese, the batter is very light without being greasy. And then there was the ranchero sauce! Tangy tomatoes, a hint of garlic, and a tiny bit of chili. So very good. Also popular on the menu is a pitcher of margaritas, which you should plan on sharing with three others. The mango margarita is also quite nice. And they also have a Baileys & Coffee. And you can easily get a delicious, filling meal for $20 or less. All around, a great place.
