Quite possibly the nicest conversation I've ever had at a gas station. Staff was friendly, prices were actually lower than you'll find down the hill in San Bernardino and they had everything we needed at the mini mart. The cashier insisted we try the new Red Bull flavors and even restocked a particular flavor for us to try. Never written a review for a gas station before, but this one definitely deserves it. read more

I'm surprised to see so many low-star reviews for this particular Valero station. I like it. They're nice and friendly, and the mini-mart isn't outrageously overpriced and it is well-stocked. You honestly won't break the bank getting gas & a Fiji Water here. read more

Discriminated..So Sad. I asked Older Gentleman who works there with white beard if he could please help us with our tire. I asked super nice, but I'm sure he heard my cousins accent so the old man replied ..."I reserve the right to refuse you service". He said it twice. I was shocked. What year is this? 1955? Never have I ever felt this type of discrimination. I don't want to ramble on... but I hope this guy gets SUED for discriminating. It's just not right. I am a US born citizen. This is a decent gas station with friendly employees. In a metro area it would not get many stars because there are not many options for convenience items. However, this is not a metro area.. it's a mountain town. And I guess all you can ask for is that it is in an easy to find location and I always feels safe getting gas here. read more

Not good Nick flagged my truck for an intake manifold that is carbon legal. He didn't even take the time to figure out what it would require to pass smog he just said I'm not going to pass you. I'm still pissed off as hell with his fucking attitude. I went down the hill and got my smog Passed on the first try with no problems. I come up to big bear every year and spend a bunch of money on miscellaneous items for me and my family. This year I drove our new car with my 3 young boys in the car, and unfortunately we had tire chain issues. I had pulled into the gas station which was not working at the time so the spaces were not needed in order for my husband to fix the chains without getting rained on(it was pouring snow and rain). The lady who works the register came out and told my husband "not here your not, move out". It's townies like this that make us not feel welcome or encourage us to spend money here. So we moved our car and I guess that spot wasn't good for her either because now we were by her car and she told me to move or she'd tow it. Nick told me he can't help he's too busy then came out and said he'd fix the one chain for $40 CASH ONLY. I was on the phone with AAA because he originally told me he couldn't help so I told him I was on the phone and I'll let him know. Next thing I know his friend came out and cussed me out saying that I was rude for being on my phone and now he's not going to help me. I went back inside with the $40 and he completely ignored me. I went outside and another man had helped my husband in like 30 seconds and was so kind. Can you believe these people? If you can't be kind to customers you shouldn't be in customer service. Sorry to hear some people have had problems here, but after coming here almost 17 years, I can't agree with them. The owner, Nick, is kind and thoughtful. he is also a very excellent mechanic. He is, however, very busy. That usually happens when you are a great mechanic and good to your customers. And the girls that wanted to park in his lot, to go next door to another store....his lot is always very full with HIS customers. The shop next door has their own lot. You should respect the business owner's property and park where you are shopping. read more

BEWARE THIS STATION! In my 50's, I have never encountered a situation such as I did today. I was filling up my fuel tank this afternoon. While I was waiting an elderly lady was sitting behind me with her engine running. I am unsure why she did not utilize the pump next to her vehicle, but she waited for my pump. After completion of my transaction, the pump did not issue a receipt, simply an electronic message stating "YOUR RECEIPT IS WITH CASHIER." I pulled my vehicle around to the next isle and went in to obtain a receipt. The middle eastern gentleman behind the counter acted like he did not understand what I was asking for. He kept saying that "I was pumping fuel now." I told him it was the lady after me. After being told repeatedly that I was currently fueling my vehicle, he finally refused to give me a receipt, stating that I didn't even obtain fuel. Thinking perhaps that there was a language barrier, I asked to speak to the owner. It got much worse but not JUST a language barrier. I asked for a receipt and told him that it can't be legal to refuse a receipt. He told me to move my vehicle (from the pump that I moved to) so that others could get to the pump. I politely told him I would when I was provided a receipt. He arrogantly told me to call the Sheriff. (There was a Sheriff's vehicle being worked on in his bay). What he didn't know was that I am a retired Sheriff's Deputy, so I called. After I politely asked him a second time for a receipt, he again said for me to move my vehicle. Then he called the Sheriff's office. Within 8 minutes, I greeted the professional deputies and explained the situation. Just before theThere was a blond lady who was very courteous and polite, who tried to help. But she could only give me a written receipt. The owner/manager kept threatening me saying that "I didn't want to make him angry," much like the HULK. I was on my way too Shell, which had cheaper gas but they were paving their station lot... The owner is arrogant, cared little that I just spent nearly $60 patronizing his store. I am in contact with CST Brands Corporation. Avoid this station for repairs OR Fuel at all costs. UPDATE: Upon inspection, San Bernadino County Inspectors found an issue with number 6 pump. They too were unable to obtain a receipt. read more

Generally the cheapest gas in Big Bear. Today, 9 cents/gallon cheaper than the Chevron by the Village - 4.16/gallon compared to the $4.25 credit/debit price there. They have ATM and Diet Dr. Pepper, too. read more

I agree with Jen beware of this station. The so call owner is rude and honked his stupid truck horn at me for parking in his spot which we did not see a sign saying that we couldn't park there. Beware this station. The guy so rude and terrifying chased me and my sister back to our car that was parked in front of the closed store next to his shop. He states its private owned parking even though it's not for his store and refuses to allow you to park there if your not buying at his store. California state law says that if parking is privately owned and is for a specific shop then it needs to be posted. This space is not posted followed by multiple spots after too again not posted. Just read all the other people's complaints about this location. read more

Worst gas station ever ! Key pads don't work , no customer service ! No key pad to put in zip code !

I did not find Nick to be as rude as others have described. I was disappointed in him for taking advantage and price-gouging. I arrived in Big Bear just ahead of the forecasted storm, which turned out to be bigger than expected. Unfortunately for me, the tire cables I had purchased in advance did not properly fit my vehicle, which has nothing to do with Nick. I went to him for new cables and he quoted $200 for cables plus installation. I bought a replacement set at Napa Auto Parts ($50) and went back to Nick. I needed them on 2 tires (not all 4) and he charged $50 for about 3 minutes of work. He was not busy with other customers at the time. There were guys on Hwy 330 charging less ($30-$40) to install tire chains and cables for cars going up the mountain. Not cool to charge more at a service station. Big Bear is a tourist town so be nicer to your visitors. read more

Came to fill up our propane tank. Nothing major. But the guy came out and told us to leave because he didn't have time for that. He told is "I don't got time for this right now." And literally shoed us away. I understand if you're busy, but ask us to come back or tell us it's gonna be a wait and let us be the big kids to make the decision. read more

We came in town for the first time ever and my 5 year old was getting car sick from the twists and turns on the way up to Big Bear. So I pulled into Valero as a emergency stop, of course he couldn't make it out of the car in time and vomited in a bag , I got out of the car and went to throw it away when a lady that was sitting on the ground smoking by the door , came at me and started yelling at me that I can't put any trash in their can outside . I couldn't believe my ears , then she told me to leave and she would call the police on me . A long story short , she was the clerk working at valero in big bear. She was so rude and out of line , I have been going to valero for years, not at this location, but I tell you what I will never get gas or anything else from valero ever again. read more

I showed up with a flat tire at this station about five minutes after closing, and asked two workers out back of the service bay to turn on the air, since I didn't have $1.50 in quarters (By the way, since 1999 California law requires service stations to turn the air pumps on for free during working hours, in accordance to California BILL NUMBER: AB 531). They stated "If you gas up at the pump we turn it on for free, but we're closed so we can't turn it on" . I was wearing my scrub uniform after a shift ending at 9:30 PM at the hospital - can you believe that negative customer service to a medical provider? I informed them that I was also a legal professional (Consumer Advocate) and will contact Nick, the owner about this. I ended up waiting for AAA to help me two hours later. This will end up on all ten of my global consumer websites, read by 310,000,000 in four languages. Do no patronize this station - refuse to stop for gas, service or anything else. I will also contact the state regulators controlling service stations who violate state laws like this one. Unbeknown to Nicks useless employee, is my uncanny ability to never forget someone's face.
