Gel manicure by Lam
Claudine R.

I came here one time to get a gel manicure and one nail fixed. The space is very big with many chairs for pedicures and four chairs for manicures. The space is quiet and the service is kind but paying $50 for a gel manicure, I was expecting 10/10 perfection But unfortunately, I would rate my manicure a 7/10. I'm a very picky and detailed person when it comes to my manicures and I try to communicate when I don't like something in a very polite way. Lam was very sweet and mostly did everything that I asked, but I noticed my right hand nails were noticeably longer than my left hand nails. I tried to tell her to shorten them, but it wasn't done properly and I didn't want to nitpick and ask again. I had to ask her a few times to fix the shape of a few nails because I felt most of nails didn't look a like. I also noticed that when the nail polish was applied, my nails didn't look smooth, I don't know if it was the polish or just the filing of the nail. Overall, I don't think I would come back just based on my first experience and the pricing.

Chrome nails!
Rachel T.

My favorite nail place in SF! The clean white space is relaxing and comfortable. The nail artists can create any nail design you're looking for, and they do a great job and stand by their work. I love getting chrome nails here. They have all the newest colors and finishes. The staff is so nice and always takes great care of me! I highly recommend!

Poor job on Dazzle Dry Manicure. Lasted two days.

Up until my last experience I would have given this place five stars. The last time I went I got a simple Dazzle Dry mani-pedi right before a trip out of town. One of the women was instructing the other how to do Dazzle Dry as she was doing my nails so I know she didn't have any training on it. I've gotten Dazzle Dry many times before and a few times at this nail salon. She touched my nail to see if it was dry among other things which is a huge no no. I pointed this out during the service and the woman in charge said to come back if I had issues. The edges of my finger nails started lifting after two days. I called when I got back into town, but they were closed so I called the next open day and no one answered. They called me back, but I was at work so I just decided to go in the next day. So I returned on the fifth day. The woman who told me to come back was not there. I explained the issue and they acted like I was trying to get a free nail service. They asked me to pick a color and then said they were going to charge me for a polish change because I was getting a different color. Why ask me to pick a color then? I told them I'm not paying again for a service I had already paid for and that I was fine with the color I had. It's unreasonable to ask me to pay a premium price for a nail service that lasts two days. They really treated me poorly and acted like I had never had a manicure or a DD manicure before. As she was fixing my nails they tried to say it was because of something I did because I have fragile nails. My nails have been fragile my entire life and never had an issue like this before. They were speaking in Vietnamese so I couldn't understand everything but some of the words were about my service so I knew they were talking about me. So I told them I didn't appreciate how I was being treated or being talked about in front of my face and then that's when they said they wouldn't charge me. And the woman started being nicer and told me to pick whatever color I wanted and they wouldn't charge me. But why was I made to feel bad and then talked about? Shouting across the salon in front of the other customers trying to humiliate me. I left that place so demoralized and pissed. They told me I should have come back sooner. Some of us have lives and jobs. It's an inconvenience to return for a service that should have been done right the first time. How about an apology for a poor service and wasting my time? It's very disappointing because all my other experiences have been good, they're close to my home and I even bought a Dazzle Dry kit from them to gift to my mother. That's why I'm giving them a three instead of a one star review. I hate to write bad reviews about small businesses, but it's been two months and I still feel bad when I think about how I was treated.

Great experience again. I tried to squeeze in my husband last minute to my pedicure, and they were super busy, but made it work. They asked if we could be a bit patience but they'd squeeze us in. We were able to use the pedicure chairs with a hot foot soak while we waited, and it was no more than 30 ish minutes. They have tons of gel colors so you can pick to your hearts content. I went with the deluxe gel pedicure which ran about ~$90. Their gel pedicure lasted about 2 months the last time around so the quality of their work is definitely there. No champagne or wine but they have candy

I've been coming here 4 years now and I will keep coming here, Donna is incredible. She made me feel so comfortable with the designs I was requesting and we ended collaborating on what the final art would be. I love my nails so much. I got gel x nails. She took her time shaping them and painting each one with details. I'm so satisfied with how they came out. I live super far, but I'll come over just for Donna or Kevin. They are incredible and super nice.

I love this nail spa! I've been coming here for about a year now. They are so respectful of appointments which I appreciate so much I never have to wait. They're so organized with their color selections and nail decals, makes choosing so much easier. Rich does my gel x French tips and he pays so much attention to detail he's a true artist of his craft

I had excellent time getting my nails done by Donna. She went to great detail on nails I love them.

The first time I went here I was so pleased with the service. I returned today and met the owner whom was extremely rude. I entered and said I had an appointment. Everyone stared at me nodding so I just sat down. Suddenly a woman yelled HELLO to me from behind the counter as I was sitting down waiting. I was so confused I had no idea she was even speaking to me. I wanted to say Goodbye and leave, but I decided to let it go. On my way out I was paying in cash, received my change and was counting it to tip my technician when she said are you going to tip her." Ma'am I just paid over $110 for nails please be respectful. I was the only person in the salon there was no rush. Better to find an equally as nice establishment that treats people with respect.

Service is always amazing here! It's very clean and cutesy! I absolutely love my nails and lashes!! Nails by Rich Lashes by Donna! This is three weeks in! And they still love fresh.

Walked in, no appointment, Donna immediate got me seated on a Saturday afternoon. The vibes were so calming. There were candy/snacks offered on the side and despite there being 6 customers, it was still relatively quiet. This was honestly the most detailed that a tech has been for my natural nails. I asked for a silver chrome hard gel and Donna spent at least 2 hours making sure all the detailed was perfect- from shape, color, powder, and art. She used tools that I've never seen, she whipped out the thinnest nail brush I've ever seen! I love my new nails. They match my rings perfectly

This spot never fails to absolutely impress me. I've gone to several different nail salons in the city and have never had consistently well done nails until here. I've gotten dip and hard gel and both always look clean and professional. They're so kind and are happy if you let them know what you want changed and never take it personally if you had a different vision!! truly recommend this spot (I also love that you can make an appointment on their website!)

Judy S.

My first time at Valencia Nail Spa and it was the last appointment before they close. The actual service was great, very friendly atmosphere, however I just noticed how poorly my nail polish application was for my pedicure. The salon is very cute and clean. The services were just a little subpar considering what you're paying for. It's a bit pricey overall, but I understand it's the city. Would I come back again? Maybe, but I'd pay more close attention to the details.

Under the previous owners, Laura and Danny, the salon felt welcoming and personal. Over the years, we got to know them and many of the people who worked there, and we brought the business a great deal of repeat business. Unfortunately, since they retired and sold the business to Lux SF2, my experiences have changed dramatically. My longtime technician is still wonderful, and I have nothing but positive things to say about her. Unfortunately, the overall atmosphere and customer service have gone downhill. The manager who now runs the salon consistently comes across as angry and unwelcoming. There is rarely a hello or any effort to make customers feel welcome, and it seems that the employees are uncomfortable around her. There is also another employee who has displayed the same type of behavior toward customers. The problems really came to a head when my partner was accidentally charged double for a service. He noticed the overcharge immediately and was told that it would be corrected and refunded within a day or so. It wasn't. After three phone calls over the course of 10 days, the money still had not been refunded. We ultimately let the matter go because he returned to the salon and received the pedicure he had already paid for. Instead of simply resolving the issue professionally, the manager became angry and raised her voice at my partner, insisting that the money had already been refunded when it had not. My partner eventually contacted the manager at their sister salon on Hayes Street to explain what had happened. Apparently, that made the situation even worse, because the manager then confronted him and became even more upset with him in the salon. Then came my experience last night. I had a punch card that had been started under the previous ownership. I had one punch remaining for a complimentary manicure. This card had already been punched by the current salon seven times out of ten, so they clearly had been honoring it. After receiving my manicure, I presented the card and was suddenly told that I had to pay an additional $5 because it was an "old" card from the previous owner. When I questioned this, I was told that they don't honor the old cards--even though they have continued punching mine and accepting it as valid. If the salon no longer intends to honor a loyalty program, that should have been clearly communicated to customers before they continued accepting and stamping those cards. The situation became even more uncomfortable when the male employee raised his voice at me in front of other customers and began bringing up my partner's refund issue from a month and a half earlier. I explained that the matter had already been dealt with, but he continued to argue with me and speak to me disrespectfully. Meanwhile, the manager, who was present and is supposedly running the salon, never stepped in to de-escalate the situation or address the behavior. I eventually left and went to the main Lux SF location up the street to speak with management. The manager there was apologetic, listened to what happened, and treated me with the professionalism and courtesy I would have expected from the salon in the first place. There are also growing concerns about cleanliness and sanitation that I have noticed during my recent visits. The chairs and workstations appear to have a layer of nail dust on them, and sanitizing the stations does not seem to be the priority it once was. I have also observed pedicure stations not being sprayed with what appeared to be bleach/disinfectant after each use. Given the nature of the services being provided, this is particularly concerning to me. I plan to contact the appropriate health department to report what I have observed and ask them to determine whether the salon is following the required sanitation procedures. It is incredibly disappointing to see a place that we supported for so many years change this much. Customers should not feel like they are walking into an environment where employees are angry, customers are spoken to disrespectfully, charges are inconsistent, or legitimate concerns are met with confrontation. A business cannot build a lasting customer base by treating people this way. In my opinion, if the current management continues to create an atmosphere of anger, disrespect, and distrust--and if customers feel they are being overcharged or treated unfairly whenever there is an opportunity to do so--the business will eventually lose the loyal customers who helped sustain it for years. I genuinely hope Lux SF2 takes these concerns seriously. There is still an opportunity to turn things around, but that starts with treating customers and employees with basic respect, being transparent about pricing and loyalty programs, properly addressing billing issues, and making cleanliness and sanitation a priority again.

I would visit her once every seven weeks like clockwork, as waiting longer usually meant some painful debridement on the big toe of my right foot. Elsa changed professions about ten days ago, leaving me to scramble to find someone in my area who could provide a similar quality of service in roughly the same price range. After some search engine trial-and-error, I finally got a Google page that listed three salons that offered a simple pedicure at a reasonable rate. The closest of these was Mani-Pedi Spa. Even though they take walk-ins, I called on Tuesday 9/22 and made an appointment for 11 am the following day. I was greeted by Gwen, who immediately pegged me as a guy who probably just wanted his nails clipped and nothing else. She walked me over to a wall display and asked me to choose a favorite nail color. It took me a few seconds to realize she was joking. (Good icebreaker, Gwen!) Anyway, the pedicure was not only thorough but absolutely painless. Granted, it took about 15 minutes longer than what I was used to, but I consider that a very reasonable tradeoff for a job done with the precision of a jeweler or a watchmaker. Once we were done, Gwen walked me to a lady at a desk at the back of the shop. That made it easy for me to hand the desk lady the pedicure fee and hand Gwen the tip at about the same time. I decided to wait a few days before posting my review, just to make sure there was no residual pain or swelling near the problem toe. That milestone has been cleared, and it looks like I now have a new regular pedicurist to see somewhere around November 11. Thanks, Gwen. Great job!

I can tell it's well loved by the surrounding community because there were so many people who walked in and knew the staff by their first name. Short of breath, I made it to the top of the hill and to my destination *phew. It was a nice quad and glute workout for sure. I was greeted by a friendly staff and led to a wall of nail polish (sometimes the choices are overwhelming). I chose a bright pink and sparkly OPI nail polish. It felt summery. I ended up feeling tense as I sat and eased my feet into warm water. Annie, my nail artist, told me to relax but my body wanted to do the opposite. I think I get tense when my toenails are being cut as if to anticipate pain, but when I felt comfortable with her technique, I started to relax. It was probably the most relaxed I've been all week. Annie was sweet and attentive. She also did a really good job removing my cuticles and massaging my calves. I needed it! It was a great way to end a stressful day at work. I would love to come back!

The quality of ingredients, time spent, lack of even a slight massage, and general feel of the spa doesn't warrant such a high price tag. That's the issue, if the prices were akin to what other spas charge, I'd rate this higher, but at $70 it's really hard to say this place is 5* quality. My feet are drier than when I went in, I think it's because she didn't put lotion on after the scrub? However, there are limited options in Potetro, and they're always booked out, so it's working for them!

I just got their Lux manicure, which is their basic manicure that comes with a regular polish, nail cut, cuticle care, and a quick arm massage. My technician was very thorough. She recommended 3 coats, which I appreciated because other places will stop at 2, even if it looks thin. My nails take forever to dry, so when I smudged two of them trying to get my wallet, she fixed them right away. The couple of times I've been here, I've noticed that the vibes are pretty quiet. I remember falling asleep the first time I had my nails done here. If I was in one of the recliner seats at this most recent visit, I totally would have knocked out. At my first visit years ago, I remembered the technician putting this serum on my nails after the top coat that made it dry faster. She actually accidentally used it twice. I think that's why my nails lasted really long. However, the visits after that I noticed that they ended with just the top coat. I asked about it, but I don't think I was clear because I didn't get an answer. And btw, they now use tiny fans to dry the polish as opposed to that serum. But whatever serum they had before worked wonders and I wish they still did that. I just woke up from a nap and I must've put my hands underneath my head as I'm a side sleeper... there are imprints of my hair on my nails. It's not noticeable from afar but I was surprised to see it since the polish is dry. I'm not hopeful about how long the polish is going to last considering this. I think this is third or fourth time here and nothing is going to compare my first experience at this point. I'll probably come back whenever I need my nails done but I'm open to exploring other salons at this point.

At times, I felt awkward trying to figure out what was possible on my own while the technician simply watched instead of assisting me. At my last visit, the Gel-X application felt especially rushed. There was excess glue left around my nails which looked messy and unprofessional. While the final design was nice, it ultimately was not what I had originally asked for. When I expressed disappointment prior to leaving, the technician later explained there had been a language barrier. However, this was never communicated during the time of service. Instead, I was repeatedly told "no" to the options I asked about. Afterward, I reviewed the salon's website and realized they actually did offer the exact style I wanted. What made me especially uncomfortable, though, was that the technician put their hands in my hair without asking first. That completely crossed a personal boundary and felt very disrespectful. Overall, I think this salon is fine for simple services, but if you're looking for detailed nail art or a more attentive customer experience, you may leave feeling frustrated.
