I've had excellent care, including several Cerec crowns to replace older amalgam fillings that were breaking down. My treatment plans are always explained satisfactorily and I've never felt like unnecessary work was being tacked on. While major dental work is rarely a fun activity, I've appreciated that pain control is taken seriously here. My previous dentist was the "You can feel that? Oh, just hold on, I'm almost done," type, so prior to coming to Festival Dental, I believed that some level of pain was just part of any dental work. I can honestly say that I've never had any major pain during any procedure here. If I'm feeling discomfort, I'm given another injection, no questions asked. I won't go anywhere else for a filling or crown as long as Dr. Mallory is at this location. I do agree that there were some significant front office staff issues and had some ridiculous billing mistakes a few years back (like sending my husband's bill to my insurance carrier, then billing me when the claim was denied), but I haven't had any problems since then. I believe those problems were largely due to the staff at the time and thankfully, none of those people still work there. The new office manager is a welcome change and he seems genuinely happy to be there. He remembered me from my call to schedule earlier that week and was competent and efficient. I've never had any difficulty scheduling appointments and appreciate the later office hours on Tuesdays. I've not had excessive wait times either in the reception area or while in the exam rooms. I don't bring my daughter to this office because it doesn't feel as kid-friendly as the other dentist in Surprise that my family uses. The office could use some updating and a fresh coat of paint back in the exam rooms.

My fiancé had a filling and ended up overpaying after insurance processed, so he was owed a refund. When we went to receive the refund, we were told $50 would be deducted because he had missed a previous appointment. The issue is that we never received a courtesy reminder by text, call, or email. The office insisted that they had called and texted, but we explained that we received absolutely nothing and were even willing to show them. Instead of addressing that, we were simply told that it was their policy. We completely understand having a missed-appointment policy, but the $50 was never mentioned when the appointment was missed and was only brought up when we requested the refund. We were also told they try to be flexible with patients and don't always enforce the fee, which honestly made it feel like the policy was being enforced only when convenient. We had planned to continue coming here, but unfortunately, this experience changed our perspective. I just believe policies should be consistently enforced.

*PREFACE* I wrote this for those that have had consistently bad experiences at prior dentistries…read morelike I have. If you're like me and get clammy skin the second you walk in to an office till the time you leave, not believing anything you were told.. then this is for you. I never say too much about places I have enjoyed so I'm feeling a bit perturbed because I am going to have to overshare starting with the waiting room. The office is on the second floor next to the elevator. It over looks an open courtyard and the waiting room is adjacent to the courtyard. With the open windows concept, I never got the claustrophobic feeling accompanied with the usual drabby walls and tight fit of most waiting rooms. The office manager had pre sent me all of the forms to fill out and sign via text. The forms were easy to complete and worked as a fast pass to the hygienist. The appointment time was honored and I was seen right on time. As I walked back to yet another room that has traumatized me my whole life the air felt different this time. Jada was as cool as a cucumber and is a pro's pro. She actually listened to my concerns. She walked me through the steps making sure to take the extra time needed to examine my mentioned problem areas. I felt that she actually cared and didn't miss a beat. After she completed the exam and cleaned my teeth the doctor came by and kept the same energy and never tried to "sell me". I'm aware of my preexisting dental issues and he was on top of them all. He gave me extra options to fixing them I hadn't been given by others. Most importantly, he never once made me feel less than for my situation. Nor did Jada. They both made me a little more confident in the health of my teeth while also stating the facts. And I'm not looking for sympathy but I hate when dentist come off as elitist. I was handed a complimentary goodie bag on my way back to the front desk. I paid my 49 dollar first time fee for what felt like 1000 dollars worth of work. The office manager also offered me an in house insurance program for 300 dollars a year which includes 2 future teeth cleanings amongst other perks as well as 20% off all services (no limit). The last thing I did on my way out was snag a complimentary cranberry La Croix sparkling water. All in all, I could have never expected a first time visit to a dental office turn into possibly the event of the week. (It is only Thursday but I don't have much planned this weekend.) Abel was the dental assistant, and he is one who has worked on me before. As always, he was very professional and personable. After recently visiting other dental offices, I realized that cleanings should not be that uncomfortable. Though I do have a lot of respect for dental hygienists--their job of cleaning people's mouths is incredibly difficult, and I know I couldn't do this job myself. One time, they upsold me a very expensive mouthwash that cost over $50. I bought it because my cleanings were always very painful, and they claimed it would help by preventing buildup. But it didn't make any difference--it was a complete waste of money. I was a patient here for about five years, and another issue was that over time it became clear that communication was consistently lacking. The staff never directly explained their concerns with me. Good and timely communication helps prevent much bigger issues down the line, but unfortunately, that standard wasn't met here. Additionally, I never even knew who the actual dentist was--his name or even if it was the same person each time I visited. There was also a billing or coding error during one of my visits. Despite it being the office's responsibility to resolve and they actually promised to do so, I had to resolve the issue myself despite myself not being on the expert on the field. If you live in the area, I recommend exploring or at least looking into other options, such as Gentle Dental in Palm Valley or a private dental practice. These alternatives generally offer better continuity of care, lower staff turnover, and honest communication in difficult situations. And the dental cleaning to my honest experience is much less painful.
