I failed to keep up with dental work from the age of 18 till I was 28. While living in California, I decided to just get it all fixed. Spent months researching dentist and finalized my choice. I wanted a top rated dentist and money was not an issue. After $16k in crowns and composites, my dental work was pretty much finished per the dental office. Shortly after, I moved to Buckeye, AZ. I was still having oral pain which my Cali dentist said was just the fillings and would go away. A year later, still hurt. My fiancé needed dental work done and went to a commercial dentist in buckeye, Sundance Dental I believe. They told her that her pain was sensitive teeth and no decay was located. After she put up with their lack of bed side manor while having cleanings done, she decided to not use them any longer. A month after her experience, a tooth shattered in my mouth. It was mostly composite material from the fillings. I was fearful of Sundance Dental. Shadow Mountain "Dr Garrett DDS" was the other dental office in the area. I called and made an appointment for the following day. At my appointment they advise me the amount of composite on the tooth was a joke and I need a crown. Without stating their prices, I was charged $1500+ in California for the same thing. They were a fraction of the cost. I had the post and crown installed. Soon after, I had X-rays done only to find a volley of small cavities that my award winning dentist in California failed to locate. After I had the fillings completed, all my pain was gone. My fiancé soon followed suit. She too had multiple small cavities that were pretty obvious and Sundance Dental didn't locate. Dr Garrett didn't bad mouth them (no pun intended) he stated the resolution of their equipment may be lower. Meaning, lower quality equipment. She's finished her fillings as have I. The work was done efficiently, cheaply and effectively! All staff are EXTREMELY friendly!! After dealing with 7+ dental offices in my life, they are by far the best. Highly recommended! read more

Hygienist said that it would cost an extra $90 to clean my teeth. I left and went back to my old dentists' office at Family Dentistry (next to Fry's) and they performed the cleaning with no extra charge. The hygienist was extra pushy and refused to do the standard cleaning. Also I was having extreme pain in my gum and the dentist could not determine what was wrong; dentist wrote me a referral to go to an oral surgeion. Again I went to Family Dentistry and they found a laceration in my gum and prescribed me the appropriate medication - dentist there said there was no need to go to an oral surgeon. I had high hopes for this dental office but they fell WAY short of expectations. I DO NOT recommend this place. read more

All I wanted was to be heard regarding the billing procedure. The office manager would not let me finish a sentence. Her refusal to hear me out escalated to a point where she stated she was going to call the police just because I wanted to talk to Dr. Matthew Garrett. And I maintain, Matthew J Garrett DDS, I just want to be heard. Matthew J Garrett DDS, consider what your office manager does not want you to hear that would cause her to act in such a way? I will leave the hearsay out of this review for now, because having met you, I believe you do want to hear what I see is a problem in your office. You should also want to be aware of the hearsay. I do believe everyone should heed the advice of the other 1 star rating reviews left for this office and watch your bills. Who sends out bills with no explanation as to what the bill is for? Mountain Shadows Family Dental that's who. First I learned, after the laser cleaning was done, that it is not covered. That happened in February 2019 and was the second time it happened. During the next visit in May 2019, I did not want to pay the extra amount unless it was absolutely necessary. I trusted the hygienist during my May visit and said OK, paying the amount due on site that day. I subsequently received a bill dated 6/26/2019 stating a past due balance forward as of May 26, 2019. I became concerned and called the office. I learned that the bill was a result of my insurance only covering two cleanings per year. I also learned that it would cover 4 cleanings per year because I am diabetic. Of course it is my responsibility to get the proper coverage, which I did. My problem with the invoice is it only states the balance forward and does not state what the balance is for. After lengthy research I learned that the balance due was actually for the February visit and not my most recent May visit. When I received another past due bill in August (this month) I decided to deal with this situation and found out who the manager is and went in with a witness. I asked for the office manager by name and told her their billing process is not acceptable. Let me be very clear as I was not able to make this person understand. MY ISSUE WAS NOT WITH THE BILL, IT WAS WITH THE BILLING PROCESS. I began with this statement, but the office manager was not listening to understand me. She did respond with a comment about the software, and she could not do anything about it. But she would not let me finish a sentence. She was acting like she deals with this billing problem all the time and was not going to hear me out. I achieved A+ certification many years ago and I can tell you all with extreme confidence that software does only what you tell it to do. Input determines output. I am hoping to hear from Matthew J Garrett DDS because the staff is wonderful. The staffer that helped me get to the bottom of this surprise bill told me she would gather the information and have it ready for me to pick up. The single patient ledger has all the detail so they have the data. It needs to be on the bill. Bottom line is they have lost my trust. It appears that they are up charging without notice and I believe there is a reason that; 1. The billing statement is void of any detail. 2. The office staff acts out of their comfort zone when dealing with inquiries about surprise billing. That explains the defensive behavior I observed. 3. The response of "it is the software" is so fast to come out before I can express my concerns. This issue is not new to the office manager as well. 4. The office manager won't even hear you out when it comes to billing issues. And 5. Although today I am not going to bring up hearsay about this office, it does appear that it may be true that the dentist, Matthew J Garrett DDS, does not realize what is going on. Why would the office manager go to such an extreme to prevent me from talking to him? I truly hope I can remove this review. All it would take is an hour or less for Matthew J Garrett DDS to hear me out. read more

Just had work done today and I had to make sure I leave a review while my visit is so fresh on my mind and heart! For starters, I have an extreme fear of Dentist! And have been that way for many years after a couple bad experiences all prior to me visiting Mountain Shadows Family Dental. I have been a patient of Dr. Matthew Garrett's for a couple years now at least and I'm so thankful! If it wasn't for a review and recommendation I seen a friend post online I wouldn't have ever been so lucky to have found Mountain Shadow Family Dental! So here I am to help another find their way to the best Dentist and team out there! I had a crown and three fillings that need to be taken care of today and it's all done now! FYI, The entire staff caters to adult babies especially Mandy! I'm proof of that! Dr Matthew even caught a tear running down the side of my face before he even started working on me! I'm such a wimp! And I'm not sure when or if I'll ever be able to walk in with a smile on my face as my past has yet to be forgotten but I do walk in knowing I have the greatest cheer squad and dental professionals that will take care of me without fail!! My children & I have been going here for six years and they've had new staff lately unfortunately I was treated horribly today and on the on the 6th of Feb 2017. They got the date wrong on my appointment today said it was for the next day & argued eith me, i asked several times to please speak with, Dr. GARRET but was told he was too busy to see me even though I was in pain & the manager refused to give me something for the pain.1 of my fillings had came out & there was a deep cavity they found it on my previous visit. 9 days prior the pain had just gotten worse sharp throbbing pain which spread into my ear & head very painful, they were very cold & rude aa if they enjoyrd it & seeing me in pain I asked for my records and my children's because I needed to be seen today by another Denist and I couldn't believe that the way they were treating me this and that I was dead and I couldn't believe they would let me talk to the doctor ecided that I needed to to another dentist asap, they happily smiling gave me my records. The manager returned to tell me Dr. GARRET was too busy & to find another dentist, which I did I just came from there & Thank goodness my filling has been out for some time & developed into a deep cavity which was by the nerve distance of hoping that she saves me from getting a root canal finished and how much pain I was in and also one of the crowns that Mountain Shadow Family Dental dud, Dr. GARRET did there's something wrong with that as well and on to p of all THAT. I really thought that dr. Garrett cared but it turns out he doesn't care and his staff is rude and all they seem to care about is money and they had no sympathy for us being in pain I'm devastated I truly believed that he was a good Dr. I was wrong! Go to Sundance Dental Group I wasn't even a patient and they got me in within the hour I was undee Dr. GARRET S CARE for 6 years and he didn't care about me but I FORGIVE HIM & THE RUDE OFFICE PEOPLE. read more

Great place if you want a dentist that you can trust to do great work without the pain usually associated with getting your teeth worked on. Dr. Garrett does a great job. He has great bedside manners, friendly without talking your ear off. I've felt like I can trust his recommendation to be just the right amount work needed on my teeth to keep them healthy. The staff is also great, friendly and helpful. Since I left high school and the dentist I had all growing up I haven't had a dentist I would recommend to anyone until we found Mtn Shadows and Dr. Garrett. read more

I feel sorry for anyone who has ever had work done here. I have never had a cavity in my life and am now in my late 20s. I decided to give Dr. Garrett a try. He told me I needed seven fillings which really surprised me since I had been to another dentist six months prior and had no concerns. I went back to another (more trusted) Dentist, they did X-rays and surprise, no cavities. This very same thing happened to my GF, she went to Dr. Garrett and oddly enough she needed seven fillings as well. Unfortunately she had four of them filled only to find out that she really had no cavities in the first place after having x-rays at another office. Also, they did a bunch of work that my insurance did not cover on a routine cleaning without my knowledge. Be cautious, especially if you are told you need seven fillings.....can't you see the dark shadows on the x-ray? Office is being reported. read more

Dr. Garrett seems fine to me. His office staff, however, is another story. As a new patient I had seen the Dr. a couple times. Insurance took care of the payment with no problems. On a subsequent visit and a new receptionist at the fornt desk, I was told the office needed my SS# prior to my appointment. Insurance coverage is the same as it had been since I started coming to this office. Suddenly they want one of the most private pieces of information one has. Why does the office need my SS#? Any issues and the insurance provider has it on file. I mentioned that the regular receptionist has already addressed this issue, but new girl wasn't having it. In fact, she stated that the original receptionist denied any such resolve. As I refuse to provide such information to a dental office I told them to purge my information form their system and went elsewhere. Sad, because up to that point, I thought I had finally found a dentist for the long term. read more
