My favorite thing about coming to Vala's is that it makes you feel and appreciate fall. It's a great place to spend the day with family and friends and even rent a pit to do a bonfire! I thought it was important to know the price difference when you go certain days, if you go during the week and weekend in September (M-Th) the price is $13.95 and when you go on the weekend (Friday-Sunday) it's $17.95. And when you go in October during the week it's $13.95 and weekends it's $25.95. Or you can invest and buy a season pass for $62.96/person. Kids age two and under are free. My husband and I decided to go on a Thursday this time around and the price wasn't bad, except we went on a cold day. Brrrr! I appreciate that you are given a map at the gate of all the attractions that they have, you can pretty much start anywhere. From dog races, to petting animals and haystack rides, there's fun for everyone. I enjoy checking out their pies and their cider is delicious! You can event go apple picking and pumpkin picking. They even have a souvenir/gift shop where you can baked goods, like chocolate chip pumpkin bread which hopefully we can have the recipe because it's fantastic or their popular kettle corn. The crowds continue to be a big issue at the patch and I think this may be our last year, a shame because we have gone every year since they opened. While some of the new attractions are entertaining I fear Valas has overextended itself. When you are in the midway area you will find next to no seating and the chicken arcade may be the most annoying sound on planet earth. The playhouses are cute, but really don't offer much besides the novelty of being a miniature house. If you want to buy food at the patch prepare to pay dearly - a small bucket of chocolate chip cookies will run you $15. The bread bowl chili and the caramel apples have slipped in quality significantly, the last apples we bought were mush and the chili comes from a giant plastic bag. Admission is ridiculous as are the pumpkins. For caramel apples try Union orchard in Nebraska City, go to Skinny Bones if you want a reasonable and fun family pumpkin patch experience. I had the best day here! This really blew my mind when we pulled up to the gate. I didn't realize how big it was going to be! They say come early enough in the day because you'll spend most of your day there, and they're not lying about that! There is a ton of interactive stands and games for everyone. They have so much to do for the kids. The Apple picking is fun. You get a tractor ride out to the apple orchids. They have 5 different varieties from Honeycrisp to Fuji. You pay $8.99 for a bag of apples; you can fill it as much as you want. There is also a pumpkin patch across the way. You take a tractor up to it and find the perfect ones. There is miles of pumpkins to choose from. The corn maze is something just fun to walk around in. They have a whole section dedicated to games and parks. The food is decent as well. It isn't overly priced and has nice flavors to it. We got a burger with fries and chicken tenders. This is the kind of food they sell. Overall, it isn't expensive for everything they offer. You only pay extra for three attractions. (The max is like $3.50.) I loved it here and cannot wait to go back before they close! read more

This place is Family Fun with a capital F! I brought my family here, I have two teenager boys and when we left they kept talking about how much fun they had. They have already requested to go back. The park is big. We didn't get to do everything which is s shame but it just mean we need another trip. I would recommend this place to everyone. Somethings are overpriced but that's to be expected. The park does have the theme farm, pirate, Halloween, cowboy and I think I saw an alien. It really hits all the favorites of Fall. It is rugged trail but stroller friendly. I'm on a mission this year to do as many fall activities as possible-apple picking, cemetery wandering, obnoxious Halloween decorating, and, of course, pumpkin patch visits. So it was only natural to visit Vala's, a well loved pumpkin patch in Gretna. Getting here was easy-straight shot on the highway about 20 mins outside of Omaha. Parking is free and relatively painless, and within 5 mins we were buying tickets to visit this well loved tradition. The grounds are huge and there is tons to do-lots of interactive spots for both kids and adults alike. Lots of cute signs, photo ops, displays, haunted houses to walk through, pumpkins everywhere, and some really rad art pieces-my fav was def the pumpkin tree. There were also pig races on the hour, petting zoos with chickens and rabbits, and live country style shows to watch. Of course, there was also a ton of shopping and restaurants to visit. They have a general store where you can purchase fall treats like apple donuts, caramel apples, kettle corn, fresh apple cider and housemate fudge as well as fun household items. Upstairs is a Halloween store filed with costumes, accessories, decorations, lots of cool stuff. We stopped in the general store to get caramel apples and got to see them being made right in front of us, which was really cool. There was also lots of pop up concession stands outside-cookie cones (a cone filled with fresh cookies), giant smoked turkey legs (drooool) and stands with drinks and water. Lots of choices. You can also, of course, pick pumpkins here-there is an admission fee to go to the patch, and the pumpkins are charged by the pound. We didn't get a chance to check out the patch because we showed up an hour before the whole place closed for the night. But we will next time! And there for sure will be a next time, we had a blast. We usually try to make a family visit here once every fall. But after the last two years, we may not return. First off, last year my kids were on the pedal bikes or cart things and the teenagers that were working there were harassing them and cussing at them. When they saw that my oldest who was 19 at the time was with them, they quickly shut their mouths. We complained via email and were given four free passes to return this year. We are a family of 8, so in order to come back we still had to pay for half of us. Well, we came back this evening and first problem was the food. We've always enjoyed the fritto pies, the chili is really good. This time all the food, including the pizza was luke warm at best. So after admission and spending $70 on horrible food, we are already frustrated. Now, off to the restroom to change our little guy and let the other kiddos go potty, we are mortified by the restrooms. I mean seriously with as much money as this place makes, don't they have people to regularly check and clean the bathrooms? Then we take the kids to the petting zoo, where the animals look neglected. I've come here many times since 2004, and I have to say, something's gone terribly wrong. Maybe someone in the Vala's family has taken over and has no business running a pumpkin patch. The only good thing there is the Apple donuts. I can get those somewhere else for less than $140. Which is what we spent for poop on the wall and urine on the floor pumpkin patch. There are many other options for pumpkin patches in the area now, I think we are moving on. Too bad, for a family of 8, that will grow up and have families of their own to start traditions with. I was surprised this place asked for an admission fee of approx $12.75. Totally not worth it considering the cheesy props, mazes and games. I have to mention for those that are germaphobes like I am, most of their bathrooms are port-a potties! The gift shop has a variety of different types of snacks, jarred foods and desserts but after we purchased a bag of spicy cheesy puffs it was old and stale and lost interest on buying anything else as we didn't feel that foods sold were freshly made. Pumpkins are overpriced! But they do have all different types of pumpkins all in one place. The highlight of our pumpkin patch was the apple cider slushy and the freshly made donuts! If you love everything fall then you'll love it here. It's definitely great for a date night, day date, or family outing. There is so much to do here that you would have to spend the entire day to attempt to do everything. As a couple you can probably do it but with little ones I would say you probably have to return to finish. So in that case a season pass would definitely serve a family well. If you go 3 times your pass has paid for itself. The best Apple cider donuts are sold here and they have cute souvenir cups for kids that can be refilled for 50 cents each visit (adult cups are $1 a refill). All of the food areas are open on the weekends but during the week days just a select few are open. Tons of cool stuff for kids. Feeding goats, pig races, a ball room for kids with balls everywhere, multiple play areas which includes one large area that's like a tiny little kid village, Apple chucking, hay rides, and more. I'm so torn, because Vala's obviously has become such a huge attraction, but I guess I'm a little jaded after our last visit. First of all, we went on the weekend which of course was miserable. We had to park literally a mile away and were already exhausted by the time we got to the entrance. How does an attraction this huge with this big of a parking/traffic problem not have a shuttle?! We saw signs for golf cart assistance on our way out, but we waited in line only briefly before it was clear that for some reason, none of the three parked golf carts was about to actually assist anyone (even though two workers were just standing next to them) so we hoofed it in the heat with two babies in tow. Next, although we already had tickets, it was not clear if there was an entrance where we could just go in, so we had to wait in line behind a dozen people who had to purchase tickets because we didn't want to be rude and cut in front of them. There is obviously tons to do inside but even so, there were huge lines for almost everything, including the food stands. And it was really difficult to find anything our toddlers could enjoy. Maybe some notation on their maps could help? We did stumble upon a small play area where other exhausted parents like us let their kids play basically in dirt just so they could sit in peace for a minute. We were also going to take our boys on the train but after walking clear across the place and seeing the line, we opted out. I'm sure if we had gone on a weekday with older kids (or none!) and if it hadn't been a very un-autumn 80 degrees, we would have enjoyed ourselves more. Still five stars!! I love seeing them take revenue from previous years and invest it right back into new attractions! The brand new egg scramble building is beautiful and our kids had so much fun! Plus they employ 800 seasonal employees which is wonderful. This is a win win situation. It provides jobs for the locals and all the visitors can't go more than 20 feet without seeing an orange valas staff shirt so there is always plenty of help available. There are Porta potties all over the grounds, so I'm not sure why the previous poster was unable to locate them. They have modern bathrooms as well. Previous reviews mention spiders, bees, cobwebs and smoke from bonfires. This is a working farm! Outside! In a more rural area in the middle of Nebraska! Of course there is going to be insects and dirt!!! If you want to avoid these things, a completely indoor facility may be more up your alley. Other area pumpkin patches charge 9 to 13 dollars and are great for smaller patches. But there is no comparison to valas! And if you come during the week you can get in for around 11 dollars here too! And many of those smaller patches aren't open during the week anyways. VERY DISAPPOINTED! I am a teacher and recently took a group of children to Vala's on a field trip. One of the students lost his ticket for his "free pumpkin", but Vala's would not allow the child a pumpkin without the ticket. On a personal note, my husband served in the military for over thirty years. we recently wanted to visit Vala's and asked if they offer a military discount. They do, however, you have to purchase you ticket on base. By the time spend the gas to drive all the way to the base, I wouldn't be saving any money on the ticket! Haven't been to Vala's in a few years, but had the chance to go today with my child's school. The new areas are really cool! The "older stuff" seems like it was quite neglected. Highlights: Big slide, pony ride, tricycle track, haunted houses, mining building, child's rope course, huge balloon bounce thing, and apple shooting guns!! Downside: creepy horse head dude seen on train ride, outdated scenery on train ride, the train ride, the prices are a bit outrageous on food ( on the upside you can bring your own), about 40% of kiosks were closed, the shows where you sit on logs and watch In the end not too bad every once in a few years and it is fun, just plan on spending big money on food!! read more

Not sure if my family will be back this year or not. I have been coming to Vala's since I was a little kid. Literally all my life this has been a tradition in my family. It had been a few years since I had been here but we decided to take our son last October. It seemed like there was a lot less to do, and the same old attractions really need some love and upkeep! They were completely disgusting please just clean them up a bit, dust em off. Another huge disappointment was the corn maze. There was no maze! All of the corn was flattened and you could see through the entire "maze". I was sad. The restrooms were horrid. Spiders through out them, dark and creepy. Smelly. Toilet paper and trash all over the place. I believe there was only one diaper changing station, that there was a line for. And some of those papers you put on the seat would be much appreciated! Lots of traffic to these restrooms and no cleaning, leaves you feeling a bit grossed out. Lines move slooooow for EVERYTHING. Literally we sat in our car in line for over an hour just to park! No joke. Food is over priced. Nothing really great in the gift shops, I really tried to find some interesting things to spend some money on but just couldn't. I only ended up buying a skull candle holder that is a lovely decor piece in my bedroom, and my husband bought one of the old medieval doctors masks. You know, the ones with the weird long noses? Speaking of the gift shop, there was a really creepy guy dressed like a clown (I hate clowns!) sitting in a chair by the entrance. I avoided eye contact and prayed to heaven he wouldn't move lmao. My hubby wants to give them a second chance this year but I'm a bit hestitant. Who knows perhaps we will go but not so sure yet. I'd probably have more insight if we'd attended Vala's with some kids in tow, because 99% of the attractions here are geared towards them. Even things that sounded good in theory (pumpkin eating dragon) were a little ho-hum. (Though if I were 5 it would've been the best thing ever!) Still, we had a good time looking around at all that's changed since the last time I was here... probably when I was 5. Goats galore, a camel, guy in a dragon costume, cannons for pumpkins and water bottles, apple slingshots, hayrack rides, mazes, bonfires, chicken coop, campfires, jumpy pillows, bunnyville, candle making, and a giant rocking chair photo op that had a surprisingly long line. You can bring your own refreshments (no alcohol) in coolers, which I'd recommend, or be prepared to shell out for typical captive food/drink pricing ($2/water type stuff). Lots of things also cost money once you get inside, but it seems you could have a reasonable amount of family fun here if you're willing to shell out the cash. read more

Valas is one of my most favorite activities every year, I always look forward to it! Word to the wise, if you can take a day of pto during the week and go....DO IT. I attempted this place on a weekend a couple of years back, not even worth it, and if you read the paper last weekend, valas funnels through 17,000 visitors on a typical Saturday. Weekdays are awesome!! Some of their food stands are closed during the week. There are endless activities and I have to say the addition of the pie barn this year is awesome!!! They have some really healthy food options (which you can't really find anywhere else on site) and some awesome pie selections! I can't wait to try the salted caramel apple we picked up! If you have kids, then this is a must stop place in the Fall. Sure it may be a bit overpriced, and the crowds can feel a bit overwhelming, but there is a lot to do in an afternoon and my kid sure enjoys herself whenever we go. They of course have pumpkins along with the hay rack ride out to the fields to find your perfect one if you want, but in addition there are tons of other activities for kids to enjoy, like pumpkin chunkin, big bounce pillows, pig races, pony rides, a corn maze, etc. It is a big complex, so be prepared to walk! You can also reserve a campfire area for a group as well. Overall, it's a bit expensive, usually very crowded, and a little corny, but it's a great way to enjoy a fall day with your kids. Pro Tip: If you can peel yourself away from a Husker game, it's a great time to go as the crowds are at a minimum :) read more

The facility gets better and better each year with new attractions and events. Vala's is a quasi-pseudo-kinda/sorta-wannabe theme park type attraction. It's ok. *****My biggest gripe is at the bottom of this post. As expected, you're going to pay a lot for just about everything. For example admission during the week is $11.50; it's about $19 on weekends (even for a 3 year old). A slice of pie is $4.50; a 1/2 lb hotdog is $10. Parking is free, and most of the attractions are free. A train ride (3/4 mile??) is $3.50, which isn't bad. They have a pumpkin cannon (pumpkin chunkin') show throughout the day. The bummer is that only one (1) pumpkin gets fired during the 10-ish minute show. The rest is pirate-themed boring stuff. I would prefer to watch them launch 5 or 10 pumpkins that listen to an animatronic pirate song. You can take a free ride on a cart pulled by a tractor out into the pumpkin fields and choose/pick your own. Or you can select from thousands of pumpkins up near the entrance. Price is $0.46/lb. *****All that said, I would give Vala's 4 stars except for this: their over-priced & under-sized refillable mugs (sodas) are like $8 or $9 (with $0.99 refills). That wouldn't be so bad EXCEPT that it's only good for the calendar year the mug was purchased. When I dropped $57!!! on 5 slices of pie and 4 refillable sodas today (on top of the $61 I spent to get 5 people into the place), the 99 cent refill price was clearly visible. What was absent was any form of notice that I can only use my $8 or $9 mugs for 99 cent refills in 2017. That's written in fine print on the mug itself. So I bought 4 of those today, October 18, and I probably won't go back to Vala's this year (since it's already mid-October). Meaning my refillable mugs are just about worthless. My refillable glasses from the Omaha Zoo are good forever; my refillable glasses from Busch Gardens are refillable forever. My refillable glasses from other theme parks/attractions are good forever. And they all cost about the same price, maybe a couple bucks more, than Vala's. And they're all larger (i.e. more ounces). And they all offer 99 cent refills. Bottom line: Vala's is ok, but I'm upset at getting screwed over with a limited-time-only refillable mug after getting screwed over with a $8 or $9 mug/soda in the first place. read more

My wife wanted to take my daughter to Vala's yesterday, (Sunday) to pick out her first pumpkin. It opened at 9am and we showed up at around 10am. It was extremely busy, but luckily the workers showed you where to park. There is so much to do at Vala's Pumpkin Patch. You can take a hay rack ride out to the pumpkins to pick one out, or to simply go on a hay rack ride. You can listen to the animatronic bands play. they have farm animals that you can feed, Vala's has a ton of stuff for the whole family. The price was good for us since we were PinPoint Members and we got buy one, get one free deal from PinPoint. Other wise its $14.25 a person, which isn't bad considering the hours you could spend there. Overall, the morning was a success. My wife and daughter had a great time and so did I. I think that my family will have to make a trip out to Vala's a yearly tradition. read more

My husband's office held a luncheon here. What a cool place. The campfire was awesome - it kept us toasty and toasted our s'mores. Lunch was served at exactly the minute we were told it would be. For forever, consumers have been sold on nostalgia. Music, TV, art, and food are sold to the basis that people create emotional bonds with certain time periods or things, particularly in childhood and in their youth, and people will pay money to feel those feels again. I think many will think Vala's does the same. It's a farm and country based theme park. No fancy roller coasters. No people dressed in anthropomorphic animal costumes. Just good ol' fashion farm games and activities and food that sticks to your sides. But how many of us actually did this stuff as kids or in their youth? I didn't. I grew up on a military bases, having never picked pumpkins, and the only farm game I ever played as a kid was Harvest Moon. Yet, I find myself feeling a strange 'nostalgia' while going to Vala's. It's from having visited Vala's before, not as a kids (because I am not from here), but as an adult. All of a sudden, at the end ofsummer, I want to create that experience again, every year with my kids. Yes, the crowds can get big. Yeah, you will go home with a layer of dirt all over your body. Of course, the prices have gone up over the years. But darn it! It's still a super fun place to go, with enough activities to last you a whole day, and take your kids or to have a fun date with a significant other. My kids love it here. When they say, "Let's visit the pumpkin patch", they absolutely and exclusively mean Vala's. So yes, I get why it's a popular place to go. Instead of preying on people's nostalgia, Vala's seeks to create it. (Real Review: Price of admission is worth it. We like going on the weekends when it's not a busy and parking is in greater abundance. On busier days, ie. weekends, you will be walking at least half a mile if you park in the overflow just to get to the gate. You can't go wrong with any of the activities, though the Scrambled Egg thing gets extremely loud with all the air compressors going. Pumpkin chuckin' canon is probably our favorite show. Although they have increased the price over the years, they invest in the park bringing new activities and amenities every year. This year they invested in a lot of aesthetics, like new signs for major attractions and more photo opportunity things, and bathrooms. Bring a good pair of shoes, you're going to be walking a lot. Last thing, food is a bit pricey, but almost everything we've had has been awesome, particularly baked goods, pies, popcorn, and, of course, the turkey leg.) read more

Having heard it was like Nebraska's Disney land. We decided to try it. It is fun but definitely not for families with older kids. My young children loved it. They enjoyed the train ride, the corn(like sand) pit. The egg scramble was fun , shooting all of those balls out of the cannon like gun. The Apple cider donuts are amazing. read more

Such a terrible, terrible place. It's like six flags or some other tourist trap but without the fun. Parking that can't handle the crowds, overpriced food everywhere and little to no enjoyment. They are clearly Incapable of handling the crowds to the point that you can't enjoy anything of the supposed substance that they may offer. Moreover, the price you pay to get in there feels something akin to a tax the Sheriff of Nottingham would place on the people of Sherwood Forest. You are much better off going to the Bellevue Berry Farm. Better prices, more intimate fun and family friendly. Or perhaps some other pumpkin patch that hasn't lost site of the simple joys of the season. Of course if you rather deepen the pockets of a place who clearly cares little for the average joe, then by all means venture to Vala's where you give up a kings ransom with little return on investment.
