Back in August of 2016 I decided I wanted to venture into the possibilities of dyeing my hair for the first time! I wanted to put some strawberry in my blonde, and while I was too scared to attempt it myself, I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg. I was referred to Melody by a friend, so I made the trek out to Pasadena. VAIN was pretty new when I went for the first time, and each time since it's gotten more put together and cute! There is one hour parking on the street, and also a small lot behind the building. It's a little confusing knowing where to park, but Melody helped me figure it out! They're still getting started as a studio, but each of the stylists seems friendly and experienced. I didn't have to wait at all once I arrived for my appointment. I brought some photos of the color and cut I wanted, and I loved how it turned out! Melody was friendly but also comfortable with silence, for those of us who get anxious about small talk :) After the color had faded after a few months, I went back in for a "glaze" (I'm not sure knowledgeable about hair but I'm pretty sure that's all I got done). She showed me a few color samples and asked if I would be interested in going even more red than I had before...and I said "let's go for it!!" I'm SO glad I did, because I LOVE my red hair!! I've gotten so many compliments, and people have told me it looks like I'm a natural redhead. In between appointments I texted Melody with some upkeep questions and she was great about giving me recommendations. Today was my 3rd appointment and I know I'll be coming back! I don't remember how much my initial dye was, but today was $85 (plus tip) and the red is back in full force! Don, you are absolutely amazing! You took what used to be a botched ombre and fixed it in just hours before I had to go to a wedding. I love the layers you gave me and I comfortably can switch my part now. Thank you for going above and beyond by teaching me how to style my hair to make it look more voluminous and luscious. Tips: 1. Call ahead and ask for Don. 2. Ask him for coloring advice before doing anything. He knows what he's talking about and does so based on your personal maintenance. 3. Talk to him while he does your hair. Three hours felt like 30 mins. 4. Get a haircut. The total was $170 for color and a haircut. I will be flying back to California for my haircuts again. Trying to find the right stylist has been a struggle for me. Yesterday I had a consultation with Lauren and I felt like I met my hair doc! I was immediately greeted upon entering the salon and offered a drink. Lauren has a easy going nature, is easy to talk to, and patient. We talked extensively about my hair. Melody has been helping me transform my hair from a dark brown to an amazing blonde! When I first started I had really dry, bad dead ends. Since my first child was born, I haven't kept up with maintaining my hair. I've worn the same waist long dark brown straight hair for the past five years. I went in to see Melody on a Friday afternoon for a haircut and walked out of the salon with another appointment the day after to color my hair.
