I moved to OC a few years ago and will make the drive back to SGV to only see her. Peggy really tries to understand what you're looking for and actually cuts the amount of hair you request. She takes her time to really give you the hair you're going to be happy with. Not going to lie, the best part has to be the hair washes with her scalp massages. They feel AMAZING! I can't believe I haven't done a review on my go-to hair salon after all these years! This review is for haircuts only. I've been coming here for a long time, usually to get my hair cut from Peggy. To be honest, I'm pretty low maintenance with my hair so am the type to come in once or twice a year to get the same type of hair cut. Its nice to not be judged for that! Also a plus when you're with someone who knows how to work with Asian hair. Peggy is super cool - easy to reach for an appointment, remembers you and talks to you like a long time friend, and listens/gives advice on any hair questions you may have. Amazing! I called because I saw that they service by appointment only. I was lucky because Peggy was about to open. She told me she had an opening so I walked right in and had my haircut. Peggy was so kind and discussed my hair cut options since my prior stylist had made some errors Peggy was so kind and described how we can correct/align the length. She did an amazing job! I received many compliments. She straightened my hair and gave me a beautiful bob. I am definitely going back. Parking is super easy since the salon is on Las Tunas. There is a lot of street parking and parking on the side streets. The interior of the salon is exceptionally clean and very modern. I came early to the salon so there weren't many people at all. I would definitely call ahead to make an appointment. Peggy is very nice and welcoming. First off, just a quick reminder: -appointments only. This salon is not for "on the whim" kind of folks. You have the plan ahead and call for an appointment if you want your hair serviced. -Street parking plus there's a small lot in the back. I was always able to find parking on the street. -Haircut for my long, thick hair ranges have been increased from $35-38 to $45+. As of Feb 2016, my haircut cost me $45 (not including tip.) My hair is super long, almost down to my waist and super thick! -Peggy doesn't work on Wednesdays. In fact, I think the salon is closed Wednesdays. -They wash your hair before getting it cut. No ifs ands or buts. Even if you have washed your hair the night before, doesn't matter. They'll wash it again for you. Peggy gives such GREAT SCALP MASSAGES!!!!!! I was in pure bliss!! I tried to find a hair stylist in Las Vegas. I really did. After countless trial & errors and almost leaving disappointed/traumatized everytime, I figured I may as well go back to my roots. Good ol San Gabriel Valley; hair salons catered towards Asian textured hair. I showed a picture to Peggy of how I wanted my hair to look. (see pic attached). She explained everything to me before she even took the scissors out. I wanted my hair to be thinned out, long layers but still keeping most of my length. Long story short, she did exactly what I asked for! For once in my life, my hair came out like how I envisioned it to be. Very pleased. And Peggy is such a sweetheart. I haven't been to this salon in over 2 years and she still remembers me. =) Very personable too. She'll talk to you if you wanna chat up a storm but there's also PLENTYYYYYY of current gossip magazines for you to browse through if you're not in a talking mood. Came here yesterday for a haircut and whole head coloring. I made the appointment with Kim over a week in advance since she said her first opening for such a long appointment (~3 hours) was a week away. I've previously had my haircut my Peggy about 2 years ago. I can say both Kim and Peggy are very good. I do think Peggy is more conservative with the length of hair she will cut, so if you only want to take an inch or so off, she definitely will adhere to your preferences. As for Kim, she was very nice and consulted with me regarding the cut and color I wanted. I didn't want the traditional sharp V-layering and wanted to go a little lighter in color. Kim immediately had a color in mind and did a partial cut first before beginning my color. Kim was helpful in giving me advice for how to care for my colored hair since this was my first time dyeing it, and was very clear about asking how much of my length I wanted cut off by doing it in increments. Usually it's more of a massage and the digging that makes it feel oh so good. @ beauty code it was more patting. *my bangs did not turn out good. She couldn't get it to cooperate so finally she just told me it'll grow and advised me to use hair spray. To fix this I pulled out more hair from the side and used hair spray and a Bobby pin. Imagine a comb over. Kim asked me how i wanted my hair which was really great. i was indecisive on getting a bang trim or to grow it out and was hoping to get more of a professional advice. she didn't give me too much advice and seemed to just do what i asked. which is a good and bad. Overall, it was my most expensive hair cut. It is partially my fault because I only asked for a one inch trim and a bang trim. I was recommended Kim by a friend when I was looking for a new stylist because I move from OC To Pasadena area. It's always nerve racking to try to find a new stylist... girls you know what I mean? No more because I found the beauty code: Peggy! On the same day, I called for a haircut appointment and she was able to fit me into her schedule. When I stepped into the salon, I noticed it was clean which is a good measurement of an establishment. Peggy came to me and we immediately hugged liked old friends. She assessed my hair type and previous style and consulted on what we expected from the cut before any scissors touched me. We looked at pictures and agreed how much to cut so there were no awkward surprises at the end. Her philosophy was to cut just enough on my initial visit and thereafter, we could explore more lengths. No Edward Scissorhands attitude here! The magic began with a wash that could put an insomniac to sleep. Alex, the assistant, gently shampooed and massaged my hair twice deserved five stars just by himself. Peggy completed the conditioning process and I scored another scalp massage! At the beginning of the cut, she checked in with me and asked if I was okay with the length. The first cut began with my hair wet and then she completed it after she dried it off to check on the layers. Using at least three different scissors and three styling tools, her techniques proved her worthiness as a pro. She shared some styling secrets which will be invaluable for my upkeep. Not only does Peggy have a trained eye, she knows her reputation is on the line because her goal is to make you look and feel beautiful. The salon is located on Las Tunas Drive and has plenty of free parking. They accept credit cards and closed on Wednesdays. More of a 4.5 kinda guy. I frequented this salon a lot when I was younger but have then since ventured to try other places. I was kind of excited to see what sparks would fly after making a spur of the moment appointment. It was like reconciling with an old flame. We hit it off again. After seeing the end results, I am reminded why I had loved this place oh so much back in the day. I told Peggy what I was looking for: simple, layered, no bangs. Get up and go type of a look. I left the rest up to her expertise. She gave me a quick run through of what she will be doing while also giving me tips on other considerations. And so we began. She gave me exactly the look I was looking for while adding her own touch. Now think about how often you can say that about a hair salon... I also really liked how she gave me flat ends while layering as opposed to other places giving me sharp ends. Sharp ends are so outdated. Throughout the haircut, Peggy was thorough and attentive. Her professionalism and friendly nature made this a very enjoyable experience. Ample parking on the street. After the most traumatic experience at a new salon, I was referred to Kim at the Beauty Code Salon. Let me say, Kim is a miracle worker! I was devastated that my previous experience left my hair choppy and discolored. Kim fixed the damage within a couple of hours and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. I tried the whole full, thick, and low maintenance hairstyle for a while, but it was killing me, my neck was breaking from the weight of my crazy full head of thick and course hair, so I wanted to search for a skilled stylist that knew how to layer asian hair well, without using razors (Japanese style) and not create an Asian puffball. From my initial conversation from Peggy, she knew her stuff! She took one look at me and explained that she can only layer so much without becoming a puffball. I also wanted to keep my length and she promised to take one inch off and that's it. She kept her promise. It was a nice change, where I didn't have to do a lot of explaining, she just gets it. It's really impressive, because that where her years of training, experience, and skill comes in. She only takes appointment now, no walk ins please, because she's crazy busy, so call ahead of time. I arrived ahead of schedule, and she personally checked in with me and offered me magazines as I waited.She had her assistant start with my shampoo while she finished with another client. Very attentive CUT: She ensures that you're getting exactly what you want by referencing cut outs from magazines. I'm not one to walk into a salon to find inspiration. At that point, you're kind of on your own and it's your own fault partially for a bad hair cut. Go in, know exactly what you want, leave happy. Peggy continued to update me on progress and cross checked to make sure that the cut was what I wanted She tried to push some product on me at the end, but I can understand the suggestive selling piece. Finally wrote a review even though I have been going to Kim almost 3 years now. Love her! As a creative artist, she cares about her work. Given that I have a lot of hair, balayage can take 6-10 hrs. She have gone through my entire hair, painting strand by strand. You can see how much effort she puts in with the picture attached. Note: My hair has been a 2 year project for Kim and I. From having black to blonde hair, Kim educated me every step of the way (i.e the process, how to maintain my color, hair treatments, products recommendation). Peggy did everything from color to cut and it came out even better than I expected. I came here for ash brown hair coloring. Called in to set the appt ahead of time as they don't take walk in. Easy street parking. Peggy and her assistant were super sociable. Super nice in giving tips what colors are popular and of how to maintain the hair once it's done. I had a balayage done yesterday with Kimmie and I am very happy with the results. I've been to a couple of hair stylist/colorist before but none of them were as friendly as Kimmie. She actually takes the time to talk to you, answers all your questions and concerns. She definitely took her time on my hair to ensure that I would be happy with the end results. Sigh. How should I start this... most reviewers gave many stars, but really? You honestly think Peggy did a good job on your hair? You might like this place, if you're old, an asian cougar, wear bright faux leather jacket and black shiny faux leather pants, like gossiping, fancy poof up 80s style hair, and like to read magazines, this is definitely your place. When I first got there, Peggy handed me a folder full of clippings of hair styles from other magazines. I'd appreciate it If these were her creations, but they were not. And when I pointed which hairstyle I liked, she closed the folder and said it didn't suit me. I washed my hair before I came, thinking she can skip the process, but she sounded agitated, said she won't be able to cut my hair if I refused to wash my hair. Errr.... I've been to salons that took less than 15 mins to cut my hair, sans hair wash, and still turned out perfect! But overall, she screwed up my hair! Arrggg... she even admitted that she shouldn't have done this or that to my hair... err, thanks for telling me that!!! I want my hair back!! I came here based on my friends' reviews of this place. Parking was a cinch--there's a lot in the back and plenty of street parking, so not hard to get a spot at all. Walked in on a Thursday with no appointment. This place looked clean and modern, on the lower end of high end salons. It seems like there are only two hairstylists, Peggy and Kim, and no receptionist. They were very nice and worked efficiently though. When I came in, they were already working with customers, but Peggy said she would assist me in about 15 minutes. So I sat down and read some magazines. As Macy already stated, they have a wide variety of magazines, both in English and Japanese. Peggy did come to assist me after 15 minutes or so, and we talked a bit about what kind of hair I wanted and she used pictures in the Asian magazines it help communicate exactly what kind of hairstyle she pictured for me. She was very helpful in making suggestions and quite decisive, which I like because I'm very indecisive most of the time. She shampooed, conditioned, and maybe added something extra (because there were 3 applications) very well and massaged my scalp nicely, which I like. Then, it was straight to the chair and she began snipping away. She provided some magazines for me to read while she cut my hair, which is new to me--I've never read magazines while my hair was being cut... But I guess I kind of prefer it this way because I don't really like to make small talk with chatty hairstylists. After she was halfway through cutting my hair, she went to assist another customer--the one she had been working on before--who was getting his hair colored I believe, for about 15 minutes or something. She did ask/tell me that she was going to have to leave me to assist him before she started to cut my hair though, and I consented, so it wasn't a big deal. Her excuse was that I am a first time customer and did not have an appointment to begin with, which I think is a fair explanation. After she finished cutting my hair and bangs, she blowdried and styled my hair. It was interesting to have my hair styled because normally, they just blowdry it and maybe add some serum or something, but that's about it. She actually used a huge curling iron to curl the ends of my hair in a little bit, etc. which I noticed they do to every female customer, so that's kind of a nice extra I guess. While blowdrying my hair, she even gave me tips on how to blowdry my bangs since I had a lot of baby hair in the front, although I can't say that it was really helpful because it didn't work out when I tried it--maybe I just did it wrong. In the end, my hair looked good, which is surprising because I have NEVER liked a single haircut I've ever received immediately after getting it. I'm just really picky about my hair. But I will say that I didn't LOVEEEE it. It just looked pretty good, although a bit shorter than I wanted, but it's okay. Unfortunately, a few hours later, the styling she gave me kinda came undone and my hair didn't look as nice anymore. I look at myself in the mirror today and I wouldn't say that I'm unhappy with the haircut, but I'm not exactly impressed either. However, the bangs are fairly good, so I would recommend this place for a bang trim, which only costs $5. All in all, my shampoo, cut, and blowdry/style cost $38 total--not sure if she added $3 tip in there by herself or not because these other reviews said it costs $35 and she didn't seem upset when I didn't mention adding tip to my credit card charge. Kinda pricier than I'd like, but a lot of other salons are worse. I would say that the service and atmosphere did feel quite luxurious though (well more so than a $20 hair salon). To save yourself some money, shower beforehand and tell them to skip the shampoo and you'll get $10 off. Two of my friends who did not get a shampoo here said they only payed $25 for their cut. Too bad I didn't know this trick beforehand because the shampoo really isn't worth $10... Overall, I'd say one of the best experiences with a haircut I've had, although I will say I tend to go to cheaper salons with the exception of a slightly more expensive one than this one last year. Peggy is very helpful in telling you what she thinks will work on you and how to deal with your hair in the future. She communicates what she's going to do well, without being too chatty. I don't know how Kim is but I will say that it seems like she is the younger, more Americanized of the two. She had all of the non-Asian customers (3 that I saw). Anyway, I'm not sure if I will return to this place the next time I get a haircut because I always switch around and might end up wanting to try another, but I do think it is a good hair salon and recommend it. read more

Came here to get a new haircut to fix my old haircut I got last year because the last haircut I got from Fabulous Cuts on Valley had left me with uneven and unflattering cuts. I wanted to keep my length but wanted her to help cut and shape my hair to flatter my face. Saw on Yelp that Peggy is the girl to go to and that she does a great job at bang cutting, so I called to schedule an appointment with her. When I got there, I was the only one with her at the salon at 2pm on a weekday. Should have took a hint from that already sigh... Anywho we proceed to a haircut, but what she gave me was just a trim of my old haircut that ampliflied the horrible haircut that I got from Fabulous Cut. She just chopped off my hard effort of growing my hair....She also chopped off my bangs and did it too quickly that it left the bottom bangs weird looking. I don't even know how to fix it even if I told her to help fix it. At first I did not notice anything was wrong with my hair because she had used so many products on my hair and used a flat iron to shape my hair to look good. So after the haircut I thought she did a great job. When I went home and washed my hair... it looked horrible. I know she has a policy that you can come back to fix it.. but there's no fixing what she already chopped off. She would only have to chop more to fix it and that isn't what I want. I already eagerly waited 1 year for my hair to grow out so I could shape and perm it but she ruined it. I now have to wait for my hair to grow long. I was so sad because it costed me $38 for the cut and $7 tip because I only had two $20's and a $5. Sigh pass. As a poor colIege student, I would not go here again. FIRSTIES! This place is down the street from my house, and I never noticed it before until today. I went with my Uncle and Aunt, and it was sort of a spur-of-the-moment, hey-lets-go-on-a-limb-and-cut-our-hairs kinda thaaang. The place is kept well for an Asian hair salon - not one of those smelly dingy ones with hair all over the place :) ewwww. We walked in without appointment and the stylist Peggy was really nice about it. I think she was just heading out to go get lunch too, but she ended up staying to cut all three of our hairs. My aunt and I just got our bangs trimmed. Usually every salon I go to sucks with cutting my bangs because i have really thin and flat Asian hair, so my side-swept bangs always come out choppy and retarded. But Peggy did a great job :D For once I am happy with my outcome. She was really sweet, carrying on great conversation while cutting my Uncle's hair. She seems really knowledgeable - knows what she's doing and isn't just doing it for the money. She makes sure she knows what you want, and offers good suggestions when you're not sure. Background: Before Kim, I've always had my hair done at the professional Korean salons in Koreatown. When I was introduced to Kim for the first three years all I ever asked her for was a layered cut. She never once pushed me to add extra services and she was always attentive of my requests. If I told her one inch only, she'd only trim an inch. So when it came time that Kim and Peggy were opening up their own salon I was very happy for them and pleased to see that they upgraded to a much classier looking salon. Even after I moved to Orange County I still go to Kim after all these years. About the fourth year of going to Kim, I decided to try something different and asked her to color my hair different. This was the first time we ever ventured outside of my layered hair requests so I never knew she was so great at consulting! She is extremely knowledgeable and up to date about the different techniques and popular styles. When it comes to my hair it has a mind of its own. I normally like to tell the hair stylist to do whatever they want. As long as it suits my face and it looks good. I judge solely on the outcome of my side swept bangs. I'm on the hunt for a permanent go to hair salon. Hoping it would be Beauty Code, I made an appointment here with Kim. She's super sweet and nice. She did a great job with colouring my hair. But when it came down to the hair cut. The bangs were a no go.. My cousin accompanied me the whole time and she agreed. She said she felt as if she chopped off all my locks. Most people would be furious but luckily for me my hair grows out fast. I don't hate this place but I don't love either. I came here six month ago and wanted to see how the final outcome of my hair is. My stylist is Peggy and I love her! I got recommended by my friend Kelly and she told me Peggy is the sweetest and she understands what you. Kelly Is right! So I got a haircut, dyed and a treatment. My haircut was just to add layers, thats all nothing special. Ok so, I had damaged blond orange hair that I dyed/bleached myself and I wanted to keep my hair healthy so I went with a dark brown color. I originally wanted to put in highlights after I dyed my hair but I couldn't find time for it so now I'm in need of redying my hair and im finally going to plan to highlight my hair. Sorry i got side tracked but, overall my experience was great! I came at 6pm but peggy had to stay over her shift to help finish dying my hair which took a little longer because some of my hair wouldn't change to the color. I was the last person out and I felt bad but peggy reassured me not to worry! I think she did a treatment on my hair because afterwards, it was super soft and straight! Peggy did a good job. My hair came out as I wanted. She charged me $40 for a trim. Not bad. The staff is friendly and warm. The only downer about this salon is that it's dirty. I was seated at a station with hair all over the floor. The work station had scissors and combs on the counter top with someone else's hair on it. The stylist used those dirty scissors to cut my hair. She just wiped the scissors off, dropped them in the drawer, and then brought out the scissors like I wouldn't notice it was not cleaned. Everyone's hair is washed before cutting so this hair experience wasn't too gross. If the salon cleans up more efficiently between clients it would improve the experience. read more

I wear my hair a little long, and it's nearly impossible to find a stylist under $30 who is proficient with a scissor cut and understands that "not too short" is not just a suggestion. Peggy took an half hour to give me a nearly perfect cut and wash and explained all the potential options for styling and cutting my hair. All for $28 before tip. I am a happy customer. read more
