Got my 2c/3a hair cut by Milah! She was excellent. Love my new look and she was great to talk to

I'm a first-time client at The Artform Studio and I would definitely go back! I booked an appointment here after doing some research on salons in my area. I loved how the business was Filipina/Black-owned and looked through all of their stylists' work and decided to support. Their appointment system was user-friendly and easy to book. My stylist texted me to confirm my appointment time. I showed up to my haircut appointment on time, but my stylist was running a little late with another client. No worries, I always anticipate delays with hair appointments since anything can happen. I had no plans and wasn't in a rush. If this is a problem for you, then I would just be aware that things might take longer than you expect-- and that's ok! Nicolette was super apologetic for the wait but instantly made up for it with her friendly and positive energy! She has amazing attention to detail. By looking at a couple reference pictures she was able to instantly describe what I wanted and advise me on what would work best with my hair. Nicolette took my needs into consideration-- I wanted something low maintenance but with texture so that I could look put-together even when I'm not. She gave so many helpful tips & tricks for styling & maintenance and was a pleasure to converse with about all topics under the sun! I went from thick, long, untexturized hair to a beautiful, layered, and versatile mane with her help! In terms of COVID safety, everyone in the facility wore masks the entire time. There are plastic sheets in between each work station and tools & common areas like the wash basin & chairs are sanitized after every use. Had tried to checkout this shop on previous trips to LA but due to Covid it was always closed. Got lucky on this trip and was happy to find the shop open. Really nice space with a great selection of albums covering different musical genres; Jazz, Soul and Brazilian and some Electronica. Appreciated the selection of "hard to find" jazz albums at somewhat decent prices from a collectors view. I've had to scour the earth for some of the titles I saw available ! There was also a great selection of books celebrating black culture which I appreciated seeing. The DJ setup was also really cool and I enjoyed hearing records being spun while browsing. Kheyli had me at mirrorless camera... ...it'll make sense if you keep reading. I found Kheyli on Instagram on my discover feed. I saw a post by Artform Studio and then saw all the amazing photos of hair done by Kheyli. I knew I had to book her! The first visit was a fairly quick one. I needed to have my hair toned because it was orangey-red and I couldn't look at it anymore. Even if I was just going camping for the weekend, I wanted to get it fixed. Kheyli explained what she thought we should do to start my color correction journey. It made sense, so we did it. And, I've loved every session since. I like my hair to be ashy and cool toned. Unfortunately, my hair is so uncooperative and tends to pull out orange and red. Finally, my hair is ashy and I've been doing what Kheyli suggested by coming in for toning sessions and using purple shampoo. Kheyli likes doing before and after videos and pictures. In the studio, she uses her cell phone, just like most people, to take before pictures. However, for her after pictures, she uses her mirrorless camera. I was like what?!? After she pulled out her Sony mirrorless camera, I knew that she was THE one!! Also, Kheyli is totally upfront about pricing. She shows you an itemized bill. This review is for my extremely awesome experience with Cynthia who cut and colored my curly hair a few hours ago. I was initially hesitant to visit this salon because althoughI am a local to the area, I detest listening to loud people's conversations and annoying salon chit chat in general. Cynthia provided none of that BS (although I'm certain that if a client requested this type of obnoxious banter, she'd politely oblige...) I stopped dyeing my hair black about a year ago and have been toying with the idea of going gray and natural but had some unsightly orange and reddish lines of demarcation under the beautiful grays near the front of my scalp. She gave me a great option for hiding those colors without using permanent dyes, and I love the results! She also gave me lots of excellent advice on how to care for my curls and ideas on how to style my hair and part it differently, which I greatly appreciate! I am about to turn 48 and am soooooo glad that I finally took a chance and came in to see her despite having reservations about visiting such a trendy spot when I am the opposite of trendy...LOL... If you have curly hair (or any type of hair), I recommend that you book an appointment with Cynthia because she truly is THAT amazing! Sherry & Adrian have a great thing going here. Cuts, culture and music... I back it and it's nice to see how they have found a home in Highland Park. Located on Figueroa across from the Highland movie theater. The Artform Studio is smack dab in the middle of the transformation of Highland Park. It's not the Highland Park of the 90s that I was around. They have awesome stylists, great and hard to find records and books. You have to check it out to see what they bring to the neighborhood. I really like what they have to offer. I was lucky enough to go there during their grand opening weekend when they were giving free haircuts and had a parade of QUALITY well-known DJs. It was great to witness and even better to hear the records they played. Some of the turtablists that graced Artfrom Studio with their presence were: Dante Ross, Gaslamp Killer, House Shoes, J Period, Karriem Riggins, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Michael Rappaport, Peanut Butter Wolf and Rhettmatic. I walked in needing a very simple health trim, but what I got was the most wonderful hair experience I've ever had. Right away the atmosphere is really friendly. The music is dope. Open space, and there are books and vinyls to look through or purchase. The staff is super welcoming and knowledgeable. They were able to tell me exactly what my hair needed and give me first hand pointers and suggestions. But ultimately my experience has to be credited to Stacy Batalla. She was an absolute delight. She was very warm and welcoming. Which immediately made me feel comfortable. She almost instantly offered to shampoo and condition my hair all while offering great conversation and music to match. Everytime I look at my hair I am torn over whether to post a review. but a week later I am still so upset knowing that this will takes months to grow out and a year to get my length back. Josh Miramontes cut my bangs as seen below and took off 5 to 7 inches when we agreed on 2 in length . Beyond my expectations !!! Cannot believe I went from medium brown to blonde in one sitting !!! I didn't think it was possible and wasn't counting on it but Stacy made it happen! I heard of Stacy through a friend and was looking for a good hair artist - had a bad balayage done and was so over it. She listened to my laundry list of wants and needs ... Let's just say - ask and you shall receive ! My hair was a beautiful ashe blonde, just the right amount of lowlights and brown and it was Perfection ! Linda saved my life. I am not being dramatic. I hadn't dyed my hair for awhile and needed a big big change for my 35th birthday. Initially I went to a hair stylist that quoted $140, so I was excited, but I guess it was too good to be true. The result was really pink, damaged and the line of demarcation (no color on my bangs and 4 inches on top) looked like I did my hair myself or perhaps my 6 year old twins tried to color my hair. I was mopey and upset. I didn't want to go outside for fears of judgemental looks. I had probably a modern day mullet - if I tied my hair in a ponytail - business in the front and party in the back. Desperate, I went on Instagram Friday and found Linda. She was so responsive. Linda was so nice that she agreed to fix the problem the next day. Linda is an angel - she spent the whole Saturday (which was my birthday) just working on my hair from 8am-5pm color correcting my hair and providing lots of TLC!!! Moreover the atmosphere is awesome. I just want to give a shout out to Sherri Silva, who totally took care of me when I decided to drastically cut my hair from extra long to a pixie! I have had long hair for most of my life, but then I woke up one Saturday suddenly deciding I wanted to chop it all off. Off of a whim that same day I found an opening at Artform with Sherri so I booked it (very easy to book online on their website) She was so sweet and got excited with me about this change, and totally listened to what I wanted while also giving me great suggestions for what we could do to make it work with my hair type. This is my second time getting my hair done here and both times have been fantastic. I originally came to their grand opening a few years ago but for a long time thought their salon was only a barbershop. Then recently I strolled past the store and popped in to look at some records and saw they were cutting women's hair! Curly hair, to boot. I have 3a curls and finding someone who can cut curls correctly has been a challenge in LA. Not only that, haircuts here tend to cost upwards of $75-$100, even for a trim on short hair. Luckily they base their services on time, so even if your hair is longer, if it's a quick trim they won't charge you an arm and a leg. The first time I went Sherri cut my hair and touched up my roots. She did a perfect job all around and knew how to style my hair curly, as I rarely straighten it. The second time I went I wanted to change my hair color all over to a strawberry blonde, and Stacy not only delivered, she made a custom color just for me to achieve my specific color requests while treating my hair with a lot of care. I trusted her entirely. And she *also* knew how to work with curly hair. Apparently all their artists are trained in Deva Curl cuts. Music to my ear sockets! This is my place now. I will never go anywhere else. Not to mention, Adrian Younge and his lovely wifey Sherry own this place together (she was there cutting someone else's hair) and I'm always thrilled to support small businesses ran by genuine, talented people. Excellent selection of curated records, some quite rare. Great beats to get your hairs cut to, super friendly, knowledgeable staff and affordable services. Perfect place. Ignore any "bad" reviews. Came in for my first haircut at the Artform Studio and could not be happier. I was running a little late and came in kind of flustered, but Sherry was very welcoming. She really took her time with my hair and was intentional about making sure she understood the details of the cut I wanted so that there were no surprises along the way. This is actually mostly a review for Stacy Batalla who has been a stylist at The Artform Studio but is transitioning to doing hair in her own studio at Regency Salon Studios in Pasadena. Sherry Younge gave me a bang trim a few months ago and did a wonderful job (seriously, though, you'd be surprised how many stylists have cut my bangs crooked or just not listened to me when I've explained that I want Brigitte-Bardot-style bangs -- even when I've showed them pics), so when I decided to book a last-minute appointment for a full haircut, I was hoping she'd have some availability the next day. However, she was fully booked, so I made an appointment with Stacy as I saw that she was mentioned in several positive reviews as well. The day of my appointment, Stacy texted me to explain that she was actually in the process of moving into her own salon studio and asked if I could go there instead of to Artform. That wasn't inconvenient for me, so I went ahead and did that (and went in a few hours later than the appointment I'd made on the Artform website), and I'm so glad that I was able to because Stacy did a fantastic job. She really took her time to make sure that my hair looked great, and she was able to blend in some awkward shorter layers around my face that another stylist had cut. Plus, the cut included a deep conditioning treatment, which my hair badly needed. In addition to being a super skilled hairstylist, Stacy is very down-to-earth and easy to talk to. Getting my hair cut by her was just an all-around awesome experience, and I will definitely be go back to her in the future (even though I live all the way out in Idyllwild now)! Wonderful business with genuine people. I had contacted Kheyli through Instagram the night before going in (A+ for response rate). She was very thorough about the process and what to expect. Oh, I was going from boxed magenta red dye to blonde and wanted it fast. I'm too impulsive for my own good sometimes. Anyhow, she warned me it could take some time. Upon further examining my hair on the first day, she saw that my hair was strong enough to go through the process. On we go. The results were beautiful, she does a great job at making sure you are comfortable through it all. It took two sessions to achieve an all over ash blonde (2!!!!). Again, that was possible only because I had healthy strong hair to begin with. Every person's hair is different. Now, if you are thinking of doing a similar transition-beware: it costs a lot to do this process. Make sure you are aware of that fact and are aware of how much you will actually be spending. I knew it would be a lot and still, I was surprised. However, It is worth it in order to achieve something you have in your mind and see it come to life....and still have hair left on your head. Now here's where it really shows how genuine these folks are.. After a few days, I noticed there were spots in my hair that has gone unnoticed after first leaving the salon. Honestly, I was hesitant about saying something and instead of communicating, I tried to fix it myself. Bad move. I ended up throwing colors in it to hide it and making a mess of it. Eventually, they found out I was anything less than happy with my hair and Sherry, the owner, contacted me. She was so sweet and showed concern that I had been feeling unhappy. We all talked it over and eventually offered a few things to fix it. I'm still in awe of how well they handled this situation. Today, I walked out a really happy girl. Record store x hair salon?!? What a combo! I followed my hairstylist/hairapist Cynthia to this salon over a year ago. I am so impressed with the how well they have adapted to keeping everyone safe by taking temperatures when entering, providing masks, hand sanitizers and social distancing. Let's talk about Cynthia. She is an excellent colorist and great stylist. I have been going to her for over 10 years and she has changed up my hair numerous times. She is very patient and honest. But I'm so glad I booked a hair appointment with sherry. We talked a few minutes about how I wanted my hair done wherein she made some recommendations on how she would style and cut my hair to look like the picture I showed. She was upfront about how much it would cost (the price was very reasonable too for a medium cut). Very knowldgeable especially about textured/wavy/curly hair, which is a plus since I have wavy hair! I can't say enough good things about this studio. As a new mom I was desperate for a cut to update my style. I had been coming here for my past few haircuts during my pregnancy, with great results. I was in the neighborhood so I decided to stop in, but I was nervous about trying to get a cut while I had my baby in his stroller. I asked if anyone happened to be available. Sherry Younge cut my hair and despite my baby fussing made me feel totally at ease. Sherry asked about my vision and bc I didn't have a specific one besides cleaning it up she helped me craft a vision. My bangs are out of my eyes but blended with my face and totally cute. The whole look is modern and together without being uptight or a lot of work. My hair looks chic and cute again. Sherri is warm, personable & funny, so the time flew. The gals at the front helped me with all my gear & were super sweet. Plus this place is part of the community in a really strong way, with music books & records for sale from Sherry's husband, musician and composer Adrian Younge, who often performs at local spot The Lodge Room. My friend Sherry is the owner of The Artform Studio. I've known Sherry for 14 years. Not only is she a great friend, but she is an AMAZING hairstylist. Many years ago, I used to work as a receptionist at Carlton Hair Salon @ the Beverly Center. Sherry was just an apprentice at the time. I watched her give her first haircuts and up-dos. It was so exciting watching her work her magic. I knew early on that she would be very successful in this line of business. It's good to know that after all her hard work and dedication, it all paid off. The Artform Studio opened it's doors almost 2 years ago, and business is flourishing thanks to Sherry's devoted clientele and their referrals. I'm not only writing this review because she is a good friend of mine. I'm writing this review because there is no one else that I would trust with MY hair. She literally makes me feel so beautiful when I walk out of her salon. As I get older, I notice that I'm becoming more of a homebody. I rarely go out...but when I get my hair all done up...you know it's time to PARTY! You can't waste a perfect hairdo by going straight home. Hell no! I want to be seen! ha ha! Seriously! I recommend Sherry to everyone. You won't be disappointed. She does it all. Hair, make-up, weddings...the works. I absolutely love this place! I walked in here the other day wanting to get my hair done with my sister. At first we weren't sure if this was a hair salon for women since it's also a record store (really cool!!) but I'm very happy we came in. The owner, Sherry, did our hair. We both decided to do a bayalage. It was our first time ever dying our hair or doing anything to our hair! We were hair virgins! She was so sweet and so patient with us! She really took her time cutting our hair, dying it and styling it! She also stayed open late for us since we work until 6pm and we stayed there until 9pm! Sherry has been doing my hair for years. I haven't written a review because I finally broke down and opened a Yelp account. She is a master at updos so if you have an event coming and want to make people jealous, you definitely need to check out her skills. I read some reviewer's criticism about a child answering the phone and had to laugh. I understand where she's coming from, but come on lighten up. This is not in Beverly Hills, it's an artist community in Downtown. I'm glad the reviewer added that she does not like children. It's an indication of what kind of person she is. I was visiting L.A. for a masquerade ball and decided (at the very last minute) that my mediocre skills with hair were not going to do the trick. After scouring Yelp I gave The Artform Studio a call and they graciously provided me with an appointment. I shouldn't have been concerned about the updo wilting before the event. Not only did it exceed my expectations style-wise, it did not budge until I undid the bobby pins and pulled it down myself the next morning. How they managed to make it look effortless while also being completely indestructible is beyond me.
