DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS! A few months ago, I had them come over for the LADWP free Nest program. At that time my AC was working fine, I just wanted to improve my home's value with then Nest. Fast forward to the heat wave we've been having. I tried turning on our AC for the first time since Vader was here installing the Nest and all it did was blow air with no AC. It's like when you turn on the fan in your car with no AC. I called Vader and guys came over today. They went up to the roof and came down telling me they could put on a "hard kit to compressor" for $225. I asked if I could install it myself since I am handy. He said that was up to me but I would have to decide right now. I asked if I could look up what it entailed online and if he could give me a few minutes to decide. He said they have a lot of appointments and I was finally pressured into just letting him do it. My second mistake after trying to fix something that wasn't broken. He went up to the roof and I went with him. I could tell he didn't like this. I wanted to be with him because I had a sense not to trust him. He asked me if I wanted to be with the other tech because he needed to be in my condo to check the temperature coming out, which was needless for the job at hand because there's a thermostat we could check when he's done putting on the "hard kit to compressor". So now I'm in my condo looking up the install of this piece. Literally easier than changing a light socket. Dude was up there for over an hour doing I don't know what with my compressor. Now I'm all of a sudden having memories about when I had my Nest installed a few months earlier the guy was on the roof as well for quite a while. TO INSTALL A NEST YOU DON'T NEED TO ACCESS THE ROOF! He finally comes down with a clipboard trying to get me to sign the job is done and asks for $225. I told him it wasn't any cooler in my condo so I was not signing or handing him $225. He got mad and I asked him if he towed his car to a mechanic and he couldn't drive his car away would he pay the mechanic? He walked away towards the roof and I followed him. He turned off the breaker, unscrewed the four screws that hold on the face plate, ripped out the piece he put in, put the face plate back on with only one screw and left without turning the breaker back on. It was strange to say the least. So now I have a Nest without a working AC unit. read more

These guys were great. Aside from the fact that they charged me over $200 for a part that retails for $20 online. But who's keeping track. I guess I am since I searched it. Also, they sell you on their maintenance plan after their service. But anyway, the guy who came out to help me with my AC was cool. On October 10, two technicians from Vader came as a part of the ac optimization program from ladwp. At this time my 5 year old air conditional was completely functional, it just seemed like a great program. They installed a Nest thermostat and then began working on the air conditioner outside. They told us that our capacitor would fail soon and needed to be replaced but a rebate would help with the expense. They then told us that we had too much coolant and we'd have to pay for the disposal of it. Then they told us that they made a mistake and messed up the math and that we didn't have enough coolant. Then they told us that our motor was blowing in the wrong direction. They got motor out of the truck and wired it. They wired it with the wires outside of the unit. We didn't like the wires outside of the unit, and asked that they come back to fix it. The fix was to cover the wires in electrical tape. We left town for 5 days and when we returned, the air conditioner completely stopped working over the course of the next 4 days. 3 guys from Vader came next. They then told us that our condenser was broken but would be covered by warranty except for labor. 3 days later, we decided to have a completely different air conditioner company come in. They re-wired the motor and within 45 minutes our air conditioner was working again. That technician commented that the exposed coils outside of the unit should have been fixed by Vader too. At no point did I disagree with Vader's technicians about what needed to be done. I simply trusted them. I was looking at about a $500 condenser repair that was resolved by re-wiring and $80 in 45min. I couldn't tell you if any of this was accidental or deliberate, but it's what happened to us. I disregarded the occasional negative yelp review and now I wish I didn't. Happens to all of us. /////////////////////////// update: Vader has refunded us their charges in full as well as the additional cost we paid to have the secondary technician to fix our unit. read more

Michael Z. (Previous post) suggested I check out the DWP Rebate for FREE installation of the smart, Wi-Fi enabled NEST thermostat (read that again, yes, FREE!). The rebate also includes replacement or cleaning of standard air filters, outdoor coil cleaning, system diagnostic test (I passed!), and refrigerant charge adjustment (up to 2 lbs. of refrigerant will be provided, if applicable). Keith and Ray (in photo with my dog Ava) just left, and all I did was sign to verify the service was done. I paid nothing! I said a LOT of "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Call and get yourself an appointment for this service if you are a DWP customer. If you're a tenant, check with your landlord. If your landlord approves, you can make the appointment and get it done as well! One more thing... Vader Air, you've got yourself two really great employees with Keith and Ray. Had Phillip over to checkout my HVAC since I had not gotten it serviced in awhile. Always had a loud blowing noise when the air or heat came on and the distribution was different in each room. Seems the ducts that were installed when I remodeled in 2004 was done incorrectly and the wrong size. Philip and his crew were fast, efficient and clean in the tear down and install. Philip did a great job facilitating, explaining, and just keeping me in the loop as to everything going on. Furthermore, he ensured that he treated my home like his own house by placing floor canvases around the house to collect any dirt/debris that may arise from the project. His crew replaced an old Lennox Heater that was pulling in air from the bottom of the house and replaced it with a modern 96% Goodman furnace and ensured everything was up to code (including sealing off the hole the previous furnace had and creating a new hole within the home to pull air from). This company deserves the lowest ratings across the board.....stay clear of them! I had the same experience as another Yelp reviewer.....my A/C was working fine, and after having Vader Air come out, through the DWP Utilization Program, I began having cooling issues. Long story short, they are dishonest and swindlers, convincing me that an expensive repair would save me the cost of a new system. The repair turned out to be useless, and instead of honoring the warranty on the repair, tried to explain that a further repair, to rebuild the condenser at additional expense was needed. I checked out other A/C companies, and was able to install a brand new system for less than what Vader Air was going to charge for the repair. I wouldn't pay this company to change a lightbulb....they are utterly useless. read more

Built a new Adu unit . Contractor installed a new split system .. 3 companies and 4 repair attempts later ..still wasn't working . Vader came.. properly assessed the problem . Jake and Abraham saved me $7000 dollars. Do i need to go on? Ok i will anyway. My A/C unit would not cool, only heat. I had another company come and the technician could not figure out the issue and recommended i replace my whole unit. I never use my A/C as i live near the beach. The unit is spotless. Abraham and Jake were at my house literally within a hour trouble shot my entire unit and determined the issue to be a power issue with control transformer. I wish we started our ac contract with Mr Phillip Walker (who in his very past life was a Boy Scout and the smartest mechanic in the United States Air Force) and his team at Vader Air. Today was over 100 degrees, and I can't thank Mr Walker enough for fixing my mini split ac unit. He didn't just fix the problem, he solved the issue and saved me from hell on Earth. He and his team of professionals are super responsive and highly honest. Unlike other ac companies, "Gomez Ac" who would schedule tech services weeks in advance, and cancel or charge an unfairly amount for service that was incomplete. 1st... Vader Air was able to show up at my door within an hour of notice and was confident enough to recommend that I needed to replace my defective condenser. 2nd... Vader Air came back, a day after notice, to help uninstalled my defective condenser and stuff it in my tiny C-class 3rd- showed up the next day, which was last Saturday October 21, right before the dreadful California heatwave to correctly install the replacement condenser, add free on and make sure my air conditioner was blowing cold air!!! Today we had our heating completely redone . The two installers were fantastic and very helpful. Danial and Amancio were on time and did such a Wonderful job , very courteous and great manners. They did a great job installing everything up in the attack and in the house . They cleaned up after they were done and showed us how to work everything. I would not recommend their services. I needed my air conditioner serviced.$120 for an estimate/basic servicing. Phillip was very quick to respond which I really appreciated and was punctual which was great. I was annoyed he doesn't have a stock of different size filters on his truck since I didn't know the size of mine to tell him at the appt time, just seems like it should be an included service. Who typically knows there filer size off hand, I was calling on my break while at work. I was very disappointed to hear that I needed a new capacitor. Which Phillip informed me I needed in order to turn the system on. He put a new one on and the Ac worked great . Why should that cost $350 was my only question seemed over priced since when I looked online a 40/5 capacitor ranged from $10-$35 ( they come in circle or oval, I called to ask Phillip which one he says "I don't recall, another truck came by to do the work while I was supervising, and they will be off for the next day or two." Now that felt deliberate, after I paid my $120 you should try to be more helpful".) he says "that's what the company charges". So I paid the $120 for the basic service. I Went to Johnstone supply and spent $10 on a capacitor they were very helpful( and you don't need to be a contractor to purchase from there, other places you do) then I had an amazing family friend who owns Ross Gibbs plumbing put it on for me for a very reasonable price and it only took about 15 minutes.. (He didn't know he did Ac's that why I didn't call him initially) Now I have AC Please do your research before agreeing and handing over extra money it's outrageous !! Being charged more than doubled what the work and supply costs. I read the reviews and I noticed a few negative ones but I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt .. So I tried them .... It's always hard to tell from reviews on these kind of service based businesses what you will get but we were so pleasantly surprised by how fast and affordable Vader was. Thank you Yelp Familia for the help! Right in the middle of the holidays we were in a pinch to get some work done on our AC units. After a quick call to Phillip, he gave a great quote and said he could be out to our house ASAP. We called around some other places but he easily beat out the rest of the bids so we scheduled him. He came over, did the job in a jiff and explained it all along the way so we knew what to watch out for in case of any problems in the future. Bottom Line: exceptionally professional service and value! Would definitely call them again...and again. Story: My wife and I have started doing landscaping in our backyard and decided to relocate the AC unit (condenser or compressor?) in order to make more space in our small yard. I estimated that it would be an easy job and that the unit only needed to be moved about 8 feet over. This involves physically moving it, extending the electrical line, and extending/braising 2 high pressure copper pipes. Over the phone, Phillip gave me an estimate for $475 and this was the best price in town so we made an appointment for the next day. When he arrived he explained that it actually needed to be relocated 12 feet. I agreed based on logistics, regulations, etc. I was initially afraid that the cost would go up considerably. However, being the nice guy, Phillip agreed to hold to the original price even though he had to drive back to his work in order to get longer piping. During the whole process, Phillip was very nice and accommodating. He knew that I was interested in learning about AC units and did not mind that I was "bird dogging" him the whole time. And he was kind of enough to explain every step of the process. At the end of the job, he asked me if I was satisfied and explained to me what I should be looking for to make sure that the job was done correctly. He is extremely technical and knowledgeable. He takes great pride in his work and is not in a rush to get out of there. I would trust him to work on my house anytime. Their work also includes a 6 month warranty but I dont think I will need it. Funny thing, his phone kept ringing and his ring tone is one of the Star Wars songs...then I finally realized why its called "Vader" AC & Heating. Haha... read more

Of all the different HVAC companies I have used over the past 20 years, this company was the first to suggest that the three systems involved be isolated and tested individually for leaks. I recently received service on my older forced air heater and was very pleased with the overall customer service experience. Phillip the repairman was prompt, courteous and informative. He encouraged me to look over his shoulder as he did the inspection and repairs as I wanted to learn more about my heating system including how to change the filter. He quickly found the cause of the problem which was a small fuse and Phillip provided me with information about an additional repair that I needed - but there was no pressure.
