I think Will is very knowledgeable, but he's not as up to date on his information as he thinks he is - and he is extremely confident that everything we say is wrong. He started by telling me that the three ceiling registers that we have (along with 6 in-floor registers) were the furnace returns - sight unseen, he told me I don't know my own HVAC system. Then, when I mentioned that we weren't able to run our Nest in "fan-only" mode because of a limitation of the furnace wiring (which was unrelated to the work we were trying to get quoted), he proceeded to investigate why our Nest would force us to have this restriction (only to discover that once again, we were right). The straw that broke the camel's back was when we were trying to ask him about the "communicating thermostats" that come with heat pumps these days - they claim to have additional features, like humidity control, that make the variable-speed heat pumps even more functional and desirable (including the AC Pro, which was the brand he had recommended for our house). He claimed that there were no such thermostats, and that all a thermostat does is turn the unit on & off. We were literally looking at the manufacturer's website, at the thermostats they offer, when he was saying that they don't exist. When we tried to explain what we were seeing online, he said that there are a lot of things on the internet that aren't real (like Freon for $5/gal or whatever it was that he said was an example of fake things from the internet). I think "the internet" is a vast place and I do not expect it to be 100% factual in content, but generally speaking, an HVAC manufacturer's website is not going to straight-up lie about their available products. He came up with one interesting idea about flipping our furnace upside-down to push all the air up into the attic (so we could get rid of our floor vents, which was the job we were trying to get quotes for), but decided in the end that it was not worth the money given that our furnace is two decades old. I appreciate the ingenuity and the ability to think outside the box, but I didn't appreciate being treated like an idiot, repeatedly. Plus, his quote was the most vague of the three we were provided - just scrawled notes on a sheet of paper, no details, no model number, no breakdown of costs. He's probably great at repairing systems, so I gave him 3 stars for that reason. read more

I had an Air conditioning problem, no cold air. Will, came out the same day between his appointments because he knew how hot today was (90s). I thought it would be a condenser replacement but honest Will tested various electrical systems and found the issue was with just a coil and fixed it quickly. Before he came, I was worried the motor or whole condenser was bad because it shook so much. He said don't worry, it's a simple problem and fixed it quickly. He also gave me pointers such as removing the the stucco from the fan blades as well as washing the coils with simple green! I did this and the condenser runs smooth like new again. A few weeks ago, my AC system went out, during the middle of summer. My pure luck, the first place I called was A1 AC Services. Fairly quickly, they sent someone out, whose name is Will. I was totally impressed with him from the beginning. He measured my freon and it was low, so he put some sealant in and more freon, in the hope that the sealant would prevent any further leakage. I also changed one or two (I'm not sure) of the capacitors. He said he wouldn't charge, as they would have to see if things stayed good. It was fine for a couple of weeks, and then the air stopped being very cold, and I had to call Will to come out again. He showed me that the freon was low again, although not quite as low as before. Anyway, to cut to the chase, I had to install a new coil in my attic. Will came out with three of his technicians, and they finished up in around 90 minutes. I wasn't asked to pay then, and a couple weeks later Will called to check on how things were working. I told him things were fine, and he came out today to collect their fee, the first amount I had to pay during this whole problem. I cannot recommend Will enough. He's intelligent, likeable, and seems very honest. Overall, wonderful service! read more
