I worked with Vacant Interiors around the Christmas holidays to get a quote on a smallish bathroom remodel for a 1 BR condo. Of the 6 or so companies I contacted, they had the best communication. I both spoke with one of their estimators on the phone, then later met him at the property. We spoke at length about the remodel I had planned and he answered a ton of questions. I never felt like I was being upsold. The estimator even said he didn't think the bathroom was is that bad of a condition and suggested it might be repairable instead I received a quote/estimate a few days later and it was both comprehensive and priced competitively (2nd lowest of the quotes I received). I ended up electing to have the tub/shower refinished and some other areas repaired, but had I decided to complete the remodel, Vacant Interiors would have been my top choice. read more

Leaving two stars because the people were nice but the work was subpar. I had several frustrations in getting my project completed and ultimately think I paid too much for the quality I received ($9100 for painting and some ceiling texture on my main and upstairs floor). I've addressed these complaints with Steve, the owner, and don't feel that the resolution merits a higher review. I asked for quotes to have laminate flooring and whole house painting. I cancelled the flooring work because their flooring expert told me it would cost $2.80/sq. ft. to put down plywood (to level between the carpet and the hardwood floors I wanted covered, not ripped out). P.S. I had the work done by another company and am very happy. The first frustration is that the company did not make it clear to me that they expected everyone to leave the house during the full duration of the work. There was also a typo with the dates, so what I thought was a five day job was eight. I stayed in my basement and ended up paying more than $600 to board my pets on short notice. The paint crew was kind and professional but lacked attention to detail. My hardware was painted over or lost, including the screws to my garage door; I discovered this when the door started coming out of the frame, which was an unpleasant surprise. The crew returned a month after finishing the job (because of my schedule, not their fault) but didn't correct things to my satisfaction. My husband met them and gave them a list but when I came home, I found they had not addressed a number of the items. He also paid the team $200 to re-do baseboards after the flooring install - there are paint drips on my brand new flooring. Pictures are attached. I will note that they at least paid to replace some of the hardware that was damaged or lost. There was also an issue where my door security code was given to another worker without my permission. I was not home, he was not scheduled to be there, and it was a very lucky thing that the handyman had the sense to depart when my dog started barking and growling at him. I returned home early from work to let him in and put the dogs up, but I was unhappy that the incident occurred. Steve apologized for this, which I appreciated, and I dropped the issue. The Sherwin Williams paint is garbage so far and I do not recommend it. There is a picture attached where I brushed by the wall and paint came off. Our baseboards are already flaking and chipping from regular traffic... it's been less than a month. I shouldn't have to be touching paint up this soon. Overall, just disappointed. Steve is prior Navy and I am active duty - I want to support veteran businesses but the work I paid for doesn't meet my expectations. I also don't plan to call yet again to have them come back, then show them the same things that they didn't fix. I unfortunately won't be calling them again to do the work in my basement. read more

There may be nicer people on the planet, but I doubt it. Bayar was our project manager for several aspects of a complete renovation - demo, drywall repair, paint, floor refinishing - and he was so great to work with. I manage renovations regularly and it's sadly typical for contractors to be poor at communicating, moody, and to try to take advantage of a situation where they think more $ can be made. Vacant Interiors' quoted reasonable pricing upfront, met their deadlines, and Bayar kept in touch as needed throughout the project. (We were originally hoping to use VI for other project needs like plumbing, tile, etc. and only didn't due to an availability issue.) At one point, we had questions about the flooring process and the owner, Steve, assisted. Again, super nice guy and an honest businessman. The employees we dealt with had nothing but great things to say about Steve and the company, which says a lot! B O T T O M L I N E : I've already recommended them to a client! We should have called them first! We called Vacant Interiors after our kitchen contractor walked out with one day left of work. I was looking for someone to finish the job and spoke with 4 different realtors to get a referral for VI and they all had nothing but great things to say, and had all been using them for 10+ years on a variety of properties. They responded quickly to our original request, came to our home to give an estimate, and sent the estimate quickly (with a great price). They came in and installed our island range hood, gas line, gas stove, tile backsplash, and a can light. The handyman that they sent to do the work was friendly and competent and did a nice job. We will call them again for future jobs. read more

We had them repair some water damage in our basement and put up a new interior wall...cost was less than 1/2 of the other bids we received and the quality of the work--including clean-up--was top notch! Very happy with their service. read more

We live in a 10-unit converted school building, and two other owners here had used Vacant Interiors, and highly recommended them. We met with Steve, the owner, and received the quote, and decided to go with them. They used a key lockbox on the door, and we went on a trip while they were painting. We returned to a beautiful paint job, along with our belongings having been well taken care of. They are very clean, they cover EVERYTHING, and no surprises other than a perfect paint job! We had a couple small scratches here and there from moving the furniture around and hanging pictures, and when we called to ask them to touch those up, they had a skilled person come within 30 minutes! Called to have an in-home estimate done, which went well. Albert was quick and courteous. He said he would get back to me by the end of the day (this was on a Friday) with an estimate. Friday came and went. I called Saturday and was told that Albert had been sick and went home and that he would definitely get back to me on Monday. Monday came and almost went. I called and received the estimates at around 5pm. Called Albert to tell him that the estimates looked good but there were some changes that needed to be made. He made note of the changes and said he would send me a revised estimate and would arrange a consultation with his flooring people for Wednesday. It's Friday and I have yet to receive a revised estimate and never heard anything about the flooring consultation. read more

I remodeled my whole house before I sold it. I spent a good $30,000 with VI and they did an awesome job. I had them redo most of the the interior, and the parts they didn't feel comfortable doing, they were honest about. If there is something I recommend, is to perhaps setup notes around the house so some of the jobs aren't forgotten. It's easy to understand to forget certain things here and there when you have a million things on the agenda. I let them know, and they were quickly to fix or complete the task. If I remodel my house again, I'm going straight to Vacant Interior! Thank you Albert! read more

I had them drywall a few walls in my basement. They even touched up someone else's previous drywall job that looked crummy. They did a fantastic job. They always showed up on time, they were polite and respectful of my family's space, and they did an excellent job. The price was much lower than other quotes I received too. Vacant Interiors came out to look at my home for an interior paint job. Two days later I was provided with an estimate for the job which was less expensive than any other contractor that provided me with an estimate. They were easy to communicate with and to do business with. The job was scheduled for one week out and done in two days! The paint job looks awesome, and they didn't cut corners. When it comes to painting the outside of my home, I'm sure going to be calling them up! read more

Vacant Interiors did some interior painting for me today. They did a great job at a great price. It would've taken me several days to accomplish what they did in several hours. I also noticed how they took great care to cover surfaces so that nothing would get splattered with paint. They were on time, courteous and cleaned up afterwards. I got 4 quotes before I picked Vacant to paint our cabinets. The quotes ranged from a ridiculous $6,500 (might as well get new cabinets) to $2,500 so when Vacant quoted me a thousand less than the cheapest quote I was a little nervous on what I would get with them but since my budget was low I thought I might as well give it a try. The quote and scheduling process was very easy (they are fast to reply to emails). Gustavo came to our house on time (actually early both days), did a great job masking everything off so that paint didn't spray anywhere, put on all the my new knobs and cut the backs of the screws nicely so there is nothing sticking out, and did a great cleanup before he left (we took every single item out of our cabinets beforehand which I recommend doing). As I was told on the phone before I scheduled, the other companies that quoted me who specialize in cabinet painting might use speciality types of paint that last longer and do other effects (rustic, etc) but for the price we paid I am very pleased with how our cabinets look with the Kwal paint. Best of all there were no random added fees when it came time to pay my invoice, it was the same flat rate as promised on the estimate.
