Ask the Community - Vaca

We plan to eat at Vaca, get the parking validated by Vaca, then go to watch a show at Sergstrom. Do I need to pay for parking since the parking ticket is validated much earlier than the exit time?

Yes, Vaca restaurant in Costa Mesa validates parking in the nearby parking structure. Guests can either use valet parking or self-park in the structure. If self-parking, you'll need to bring your parking ticket to the restaurant for validation.…

Do they take reservations for small groups?

Yes they do- however they've been victims of reservation swatting lately so best to call to make a reservation

Does Vaca offer a Thanksgiving menu, dine in and/or takeout, and what is included?

I doubt that. But, it's April. There's a lot of time for things to change lol

Is there any kind of "kids menu"?

No it doesn't look like it

How many people do you need to get a paella? Could a person eat one all by himself?

2. 3 if you order other tapas. 1 is doable if you're a big eater or you are willing to take leftovers.

Hi, do you offer outside seating?

There are a few tables placed outside. Yes.

What meat is in the Spanish platter?

Best parking if seeing a play at seger storm after diner?

Absolutely yes! That's what we always do. Park at Vaca, eat there, go to theater, then pickup car afterwards.

Hi, is the menu different if you sit at the bar?

I don't believe so. I think they only use the one paper folded menu.

Does the Lunch menu offer tapas as well or is that only for dinner?

We went for lunch and decided to do only the tapas.. You can mix and match

What is the corkage fee for a magnum?

Their corkage fee is listed in FAQ...$30 for one bottle and need to contact them for additional bottles.

Which seating area is better: indoor or outdoor? If outdoor, by the front or the back?

If it's just two, I'd sit at the bar. Otherwise a table in the back. Outside lacks the vibe.

Is there a corkage fee?

yes but I forgot how much

Do they offer any vegan options?

They offer Falafel which has no meat.

Can I bring an ice cream cake for the birthday dinner?

No!

Is lunch menu back yet?

Yes.

Is there a dress code?

It's like fun-upscale but basically just shoes shirt and pants. :)

What fully vegan options are there?

There's a paella there with noodles and veggies.

During this covid season, are they open for lunch? I heard they had lunch specials, are there any right now?

Should I bother eating here if I can't eat dairy? Food looks great but it looks like most items have cheese

This place is a meat eater's paradise. Especially if you like Spanish cured meats i.e. Jambon. All things Spanish are available here especially a wide array of Spanish cheeses, but dairy would be a small part of what you could order here. This place…

When we arrived, our table was beautifully decorated with little red hearts and an anniversary card waiting for us. It was such a thoughtful touch and immediately made us feel special. Our server, Kevin, provided some of the best service I have ever experienced at any restaurant. He was incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely made us feel like he wanted us to enjoy our anniversary. To help us celebrate, we were treated to two glasses of champagne and two pieces of cake, which was such a wonderful surprise. We ordered two of the $32 Plates. The chicken was incredibly tender and flavorful, with a sauce that complemented it perfectly without being too heavy. The steak, cooked medium, was absolutely delicious--so tender it practically melted in my mouth. The restaurant itself was very clean and elegant, with soft music playing in the background. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing, making it the perfect place to enjoy an anniversary meal without feeling rushed. We are so happy we chose The Capital Grille for our 23rd anniversary. Great food, a beautiful atmosphere, and especially Kevin's outstanding service made this a truly memorable experience for us. Thank you for making our 23rd anniversary feel so special. We will definitely be back!

If you are looking for a hidden gem in Costa Mesa, this spot is an absolute must-visit. From the…read moremoment you step inside, you are greeted by an adorable interior and decor that cleverly and beautifully matches the restaurant's theme. Every single item we ordered from the menu was exceptional: Beet Salad & Bone Marrow: Both made for fantastic starters, setting a high bar for the meal. Beef Tartare: Served with house-made potato chips that are a masterclass in texture--thin, fried, airy, and crispy all at the same time. Steak and Fries: Classic execution and wonderfully prepared. Duck Confit: Superb. The pairing of the rich mole sauce and sweet potato puree takes the dish to an entirely different level, complementing each other effortlessly. Baklava Cheesecake: A creative and delicious twist on a classic. The cream cheese filling is light rather than dense, and instead of a traditional graham cracker crust, it features a fantastic baklava crust. It is nicely balanced and not overly sweet, though you will definitely want to pair it with a cup of coffee to finish it off. Service: The staff is exceptionally friendly, highly attentive, and organized, making you feel well cared for throughout the meal. Portions: Portions are slightly on the smaller side. My husband and I ordered three appetizers and two main entrees to share, and we were still quite hungry by the end--so you may want to order an extra dish or side if you have a hearty appetite! Overall, a wonderful dining experience with incredible flavors and charming ambiance. Highly recommended!

We thought he forget to place our order. We were gonna place more food orders but we didn't want to wait. Our server was busy helping all the tables in the main dining room. For the prices SET charges, I expected much better quality and attention to detail. I completely understand that everyone has bad days, and I certainly don't expect perfection. However, when dining at an upscale establishment, a warm smile, a welcoming attitude, and genuine hospitality should be part of the experience. Whatever kind of day an employee may be having should never affect how guests are treated. No customer should feel like an inconvenience simply for being there. What disappointed me most wasn't necessarily the food or the wait, but how unwelcome and inferior I felt throughout the evening. I chose SET to celebrate my birthday because I had previously enjoyed a wonderful experience here. Unfortunately, this visit was the complete opposite. Luxury isn't just about beautiful decor and expensive food; it's about making every guest feel valued, respected, and welcome, regardless of their background or financial status. I left feeling extremely disappointed, especially on an occasion that was supposed to be special.
