Chopped salad - could've better without the blue cheese
Lyle O.

A little dark and intimate dining with my wife celebrating our 17yrs together, couldn't have asked for a more pleasant dining experience. Thank you to everyone at Mastro's who made our special day memorable. Sara our waitress was excellent. Welcomed us and congratulated us on our special day and showed extra care explaining the drink and dining menus. We ordered 6oz & 8oz filets, garlic mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. The bread basket was an excellent variety of breads (a must order). Everything was delicious. I forgot to mention the hostess was very nice and welcoming as well. We were greeted and exited with nice pleasantries. Valet parking $10.00 for those who are wondering.

Desert for graduation

Really good experience. I came here to celebrate my husband's graduation. They made sure he was well taken care of. He enjoyed the drinks and had a great dinner as well. The service was great and we loved vibe. This is a great place If you're celebrating a special occasion.

I expected the food to be overrated but I was wrong. My bf brought me for my birthday and I loved it. Everything was delicious. Can't wait to come back! Bread service: 9/10 must get! Calamari: 9/10 Chef's cut ribeye 33oz: 1000/10 ordered medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. We got a side of truffle butter to go with the steak. It was yummy but tbh the steak was good all on its own. Garlic mashed potatoes: 10/10 Broccolini: 8/10 Butter cake: 6/10 it was okay but I expected more from all the hype it gets. I wouldn't order it again. Chocolate cake: 10/10 it was so rich! Best chocolate cake I've had so far. I'm not a sweets person but it's not too overly sweet. Ambience is upscale, luxurious and lively. Their lighting is very warm and dim that gives it a classic steakhouse elegance. Our server was awesome and a professional. Although he was busy he kept checking up on us.

Dry aged Bone Bone-In Ribeye 22oz
Meg C.

Mastro's never disappoints. The dry-aged ribeye was absolutely juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked--so tender and succulent with that rich, melt-in-your-mouth taste you expect from a great steakhouse. Every bite was worth it. The service was top notch from start to finish, Patricia was attentive, professional, and made the whole dining experience feel extra special. The classy ambiance just ties everything together... elegant, lively, and perfect for a nice night out.

Mastro's Signature Warm Butter Cake

Came here for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the great experience. My party ordered calamari, lobster cocktail, and tuna tartare for appetizer and I got the branzino for my entree. Everything was delicious! To top it off we got the signature butter cake with ice cream for dessert and that was amazing! Definitely a must get if you go! The service was excellent. They checked in with us frequently throughout the meal and were very courteous. The restaurant was very clean and comfortable although every dark. Overall I had a great experience and will definitely be visiting again.

Dungeness Crab Cocktail - Delish, I love crab!!!

Came here last night for our anniversary dinner. 5 starts for the food & service. Our server Drew was fantastic and really wanted to make sure we had a good time and that we got everything we wanted and more. He offered to take pictures for our anniversary and was genuinely happy to help us for the evening. He was so friendly, personable and attentive. We've been to Mastros before in multiple locations and this was by far the best experience we've had. THANK YOU DREW ! Honestly surpassed all of our expectations (and set the bar even higher for our next visit lol) ! For the food we had the delicious bread basket, the Dungeness crab cocktail, steak, crab cakes, Mac and cheese, spinach and cauliflower. They blessed us with a decadent chocolate cake and we ordered the butter cake of course!

There is a reason why Mastro's is one of the best steakhouses, and also why it will always be our #1 favorite. High quality meat. Excellent service. Elegant atmosphere. We came to celebrate my husband's birthday tonight at Mastro's and did not leave disappointed. Steak is cooked to perfection. Topped with butter of server's recommendation and each bite is like heaven. I always joke to hubbie and say I am a cheap date because my choice is always petite filet with a side of creamed spinach. He chose the 22 ounce ribeye with truffle mushroom Mac n cheese. Omg every single one of those dishes were heavenly. Our waiter let us know that the aged wine prices have not inflated over the years so we had to try the 2014 Seven Hills Merlot. Wow, so perfect with our meal. Everything was perfect tonight. To our main dish, to oysters to start the night, to our complimentary birthday cake and an espresso martini to close out the night. I will always think of Mastro's as the best steakhouse ever.

This Mastros location is a 5-star all the way! It's a huge and spacious location. It's a two story restaurant, dim lighting, red and yellow background lights throughout the restaurant, employees moving left and right, etc. It has such a great vibe all around. My wife and I celebrated Valentines here last Saturday with our son. We all had a great time. We ordered our favorite Chef's Rib Eye Cut (33 oz), Eild mushrooms with truffle butter, garlic mash, creamed corn, and Mac n cheese. Of course, bread service is always a must. Everything was cooked perfectly as usual and I enjoyed the employees serving us our first scoops. Just a heads up, steak sauces are now $5 each (used to be free), valet parking is $10, and the wild mushrooms with truffle butter is off the menu but can be made at request. This is one of my favorite locations! I'll definitely come back again when I'm in New Port!

Desiree M.

Such a great experience! This a place to definitely go if you are celebrating something special. My loved one brought me here for my birthday dinner, the atmosphere, the service, and the plating were just right. Everything came with great presentation, and never rushed. The team makes you feel special, and even had a special touch of putting your name on the menu, and a delectable dessert at the end. My favorites were the sides of course lol

Diana M.

I had only been to the Mastros in Beverly Hills and had never noticed this one by south coast plaza. I came here for my works holiday dinner party. There is self parking available nearby but I didn't want to walk and it's also paid so I just did the valet parking. They have a beautiful entrance with the main dinning area and bar downstairs. For bigger groups they have their event rooms upstairs where they have a set of restrooms and everything you may need. Our room was very nicely set up and there was staff welcoming as we came in. For our event, my work had already ordered some AMAZING appetizers and they had a small menu for us to choose from. The seafood tower was spectacular! It is huge and a beautiful presentation. We had one per table which was a lot of seafood. Everything was very tasty and fresh. The skewers we had for the table were very nice and easy to share and pick different flavors. I had the lobster bisque which was very creamy and rich. My main course was the lamb rack which was delicious! It was cooked perfectly to a medium rare. The lobster tail with it was tender and perfect. I loved that they offer the option of individual portions of their butter cake as it's my favourite!! The bartender was really good and offered pretty much any drink I wanted. I started with a lemon drop and then I wasn't sure what else. He suggested a strawberry lemon drop and I loved it! The room was great for groups and the service was outstanding! Overall I can't wait to be back as a regular customer and I would highly recommend for special events in their private rooms.

Martina T.

Valet $10 or validated free parking in structure in back. Revisited to attend an event upstairs in a private room. I asked for a rare steak, however the server said that taste would come out cold and bloody. I told him that whenever I ask for medium rare it comes out medium and is too cooked . He assured that that would not be the case. Sure enough, my steak came out overcooked like a medium and way too salty. Not sure if my medium rare was mistaken with the other steaks that were brought out but I did not enjoy it at all. The meat was tender so that was one great thing about it. Food takes a while to come out. Main server did not come back to check on us. Maybe they were extremely short staffed since there were many events going on. Not impressed.

William ..

Excellent food, Excellent customer service as we request Ashley. This place is our number 1 spot. Drinks and more drinks. Yes we go there a lot lol.

Bone-in 12 oz Bone-In Filet 12oz
Lynne A.

Dinner for New Year's with the boyfriend. Subtle decor for the holiday with black and silver balloons floated to the trailing. We started with champagne at the bar. I had the 12 oz bone-in filet mignon. Was a bit dry but nothing a little bearnaise sauce couldn't fix. Love their garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. Ended the meal with their delicious Butter cake. Brought our own wine. Corkage is $50/bottle. Valet parking.

Def not discouraged, he will be fine. He may be bored though.

For sure

Does the bread service come with refills?

It used to pre Covid. They charge for the bread basket and for refills.

Standard seating is regular table height. High top is about bar height. I prefer standard seating, I think it is much more comfortable.

If you are looking for an authentic French dining experience in Costa Mesa, Butcher's House…read moreBrasserie is a must-visit. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt incredibly genuine--even the waiters were speaking French, which added such a charming, transportive touch to our evening! We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and were glad we made a reservation in advance, as the place has a great energy and fills up quickly. To experience as much of the menu as possible, we ordered several dishes to share. We started with the Burrata and the Butcher's House Pate. Both were excellent, but a special shout-out has to go to the bread and butter. The bread quality is top-notch, and the butter is divine--it immediately reminded me of the high-quality butter I've had in France. Before the mains, we shared the Butcher's Salad. It was incredibly refreshing and the perfect palate cleanser. We opted not to add protein to the salad since we knew we had a feast coming, and it was the right call. Since they are known for their butchery, most of our group went with steaks. Two friends ordered the steak and eggs, and I went with the classic Steak Frites. The steak was cooked to perfection and the accompanying sauce was amazing. Both the potatoes and the fries were standout sides--perfectly crispy and seasoned. Toulouse Sausage was a total hidden gem! It was incredibly juicy and flavorful. I tried a bite of my friend's cod, and it proved that they handle seafood just as expertly as their meats. It was delicate and fresh. While I didn't get a chance to try the cocktails this time, I noticed they have a full bar with a great selection. I already have my eye on the Espresso Martini for my next visit! Overall, a fantastic spot for a celebration or a nice date night. I can't wait to come back.

Filet Mignon- We each got to choose a sauce to go with the meat and we picked garlic aioli and peppercorn sauce. Both were delicious and elevated the dish. The meat was beautifully aged and tender, cooked perfectly with a smoky sear. Raclette Potatoes- Potatoes were nicely roasted and the raclette cheese was gooey and savory. Proscuitto added a layer of flavor, making every bite memorable! Green Beans- Fresh and tasty. This was sauteed with herbs and maintained a nice crunch. It was a lovely and healthy side. Apple Tart- Delicate flaky pastry base with sweet apples and a rich, caramel sauce. Finished with creamy vanilla ice cream. This was a delicious end to the meal. Great experience overall!

The kind of plates that make us slow down to savor each mouthful... and then shamelessly scrape up every last bite. We were so smitten after those first two dishes that we threw all caution and control to the wind. I asked staff to surprise us with one of the dishes recommended earlier. Out came the Grilled Octopus Al Pastor. Nice char, tender bite, and a tangy sauce. For dessert: the Baklava Cheesecake. Lightly spritzed with aromatic rose water, ultra sweet, and unapologetically indulgent. Beautifully crafted and shareable, though you may not want to. Beyond the food, the ambience really shines. Intimate, classy, and whimsical, with a charming playlist. Ideal for date nights or special celebrations. Service was outstanding. Warm, attentive, and passionate. SERVICE: Service was good. Everyone was trying their best to do their job smoothly. I know it's not the staff's fault the kitchen was backed up. Everyone remained calm and poised. The servers could use more SMILES though... OVERALL: The food was good and the ambiance was even better! If you have the time and patience, I would recommend this place... Our waiter was super…read moreattentive and genuinely entertaining -- even offered to sing happy birthday solo, which was such a fun and memorable. The ambiance is a bit quirky and moody, great setting for a special occasion. Interesting menu with lots of variety. We ordered the grilled cheese dumplings, yellowfin tuna poke, parmesan garlic fries, ribeye, and chilean sea bass. Two clear favorites: the grilled cheese dumplings are such a creative concept -- if you love tomato soup and grilled cheese, it's basically the perfect bite in dumpling form. And the chilean sea bass was really the star of the night -- beautifully seared so it's crispy on the outside but soft, juicy, and tender inside, and the couscous paired with it really well. The one thing I'd skip is the ribeye -- the texture and flavor just didn't deliver the way the other dishes did, especially at that price point.

Vaca is a Spanish tapas style restaurant with great meat and cocktails…read more Some of my meal highlights was the bikini sandwich and the night's special, which was a perfectly cut piece of steak. I was disappointed in the patatas bravas, however, which I felt lacked much flavor. The cocktails were exceptional. I enjoyed a classic dirty martini, their specialty vaca tonic (A+ cocktail), and had their non-alcoholic drink called Starry Night (very delicious, but not worth $16). The setting is quite breath-taking, with the restaurant decorated with elaborate cuts of meat and wine bottles. The lighting is very warm-toned and elegant. Overall, we had a delicious meal and cocktails before heading to the Segerstrom (just a quick walk away). The service was excellent and the meal great, but I think the whole experience was heavily overpriced for what you get.

First off, my friends had sat at the bar for a good 20 min before the bartender finally acknowledged them and took our drink order. Even then she was not very nice and totally made other patrons orders who had sat down after us before even trying to deliver our drinks to us. Once the drinks were delivered, they were pretty much slammed onto the bar counter rather than being delivered with care. Yikes. I had asked for a bar napkin because the rim was sticky and she completely ignored me. So rude. Our reservation on a Friday night with a show happening at Segerstrom was at 7:45pm which means the show crowd should have already left by this point. We easily didn't get seated until 8:15-8:20pm for a 7:45pm reservation because our table was lingering. Seems like poor table management on the restaurant's part to be that far behind schedule. Once we sat down, we did our best to order right away as we were starving and was pretty sure it would take awhile for the food to come out. Our server greeted us within a few min of sitting down and since we were ready to order by the time she showed up, we ordered everything from appetizers to full meal. Started with the croquetas and gambas. Both were good but honestly I've had better. The sauce for the gambas felt like the ratio of the sherry was a bit much and not enough spice. Ended up with the Paella Valenciana which was okay, but the flavors felt kind of bland and the scallops and shrimp inside seemed like they could have been cooked more thoroughly. I believe we got the 12oz New York Steak to share, and it felt the meat itself was super tender but lacked a bit of flavor for my liking. We wanted the broccolini but they ran out so ended up with the Brussel sprouts instead which were very good. Overall the ambiance inside the restaurant is a bit tight and chaotic for my liking. I definitely like the bar area better than the tables which were very close together, so may have to try dining at the bar next time.
