The cheesesteak was very good, very flavorful. They use a french roll, similar to a banh mi roll so if you are looking for a authentic philly amoroso roll, this isn't it. But it is still delicious all the same. Definitely get the garlic fries. Just enough garlic for it to taste good but not be overwhelming. Crunchy on the outside and hot and fluffy on the inside. The cheese steak subs are indeed huge. Mine was 11.75 inches long. After I finished eating, I had 5.5 inches left over. The sub was an average of 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall. 11.75 - 5.5 = 6.25. 6.25 x 3 x 2 = 37.5. Thus I ate 37.5 cu. in. of cheese steak sub tonight. I came here for lunch today with a coworker. I ordered the feta salad with salmon, and she ordered the feta salad with tuna and a side of french fries. I was expecting a piece of grilled salmon, however the salmon is fried tempura style. Also, the portions are huge! We had enough leftovers to last another meal or so. :) The prices are decent, especially considering it is made to order and the service is fast. Ordered food for delivery through Eat 24. Wait time was normal about an hour. I ordered the bacon cheese burger with garlic fries, my co-worker ordered the mushroom Philly with fries. My burger was very good. Big burger with all the fixings on the side. the burger was hot. my french fries were cold but I can't expect them to stay hot during transit so no harm. I really enjoyed the burger at any rate. I would order here again for a burger, but next time i would pass on ordering fries. read more

I dropped in tonight and ordered a Cheese Steak Sandwich and Beer Battered Onion Rings. I had no idea how huge these sandwiches are. A foot long soft roll dripping with gooey, stringy melted cheese topped with a beef and onion mixture and peppers (your choice of hot or sweet). Dripping with a combination of meat juices, grease and cheese the sandwich was awesome. The rings were good too, but I couldn't finish my order because the sandwich left me stuffed. They actually followed the special instructions I wrote for half mushroom and half plain (I was sharing with a friend, which is totally doable because it was huge). I dare say it was better that Phat Philly's in the Mission that we tried previously when we were craving cheesesteaks. We also ordered a fried zucchini instead of fries which were ok. They weren't soggy and I wouldn't blame them for that since I had it delivered to me at work. They were just plain and needed more seasoning. I'd definitely order from them again. I feel so bad! I meant to leave a tip in cash but my front desk security grabbed my order because I was in a meeting! I am so sorry to whoever handled my order today and did not get tipped!!!! I spent $20 on my delivery order consisting of a cheesesteak with extra cheese, mushrooms, onions and sweet peppers and an order of Popcorn shrimp. I got a free soda with it, which I typically dont drink soda but figured heck, why not since its free. The popcorn shrimp were bomb! The cheesesteak was good, although it didnt seem to have extra swiss on it (considering it was an extra $1.50 for swiss i thought it would be semi-drowned). There werent enough sweet peppers in my opinion either, but there were alot of mushrooms and onions and the meat was delicious. The sandwich itself was HUGE and well worth 11.50 in my opinion. I really enjoyed my lunch today. I work nearby in the mission and did not want to go out in the rain to get lunch. The delivery was very convenient and they were impressively quick. Food is great! The delivery driver was very rude. We are visiting from out of state and staying at a hotel. He called our phone and said "I'm outside, come get your food and hung up. It then took another 5 minutes for him to get the actual food to me only after we called him back again to let him know we were out front of the hotel. When I finally saw him he said "Melissa"? Very sarcastic and only after I gave him a tip did he perk up and become actually happy. He was only kind for the tip. Seemed like that is all he cared about. Disappointing. read more

BEST GARLIC FRIES I'VE EVER HAD. Followed the scent of garlic fries from Mercury Lounge to this little cafe. These garlic fries are better than the Ballparks and Gordon Biersch. The best part of these fries is that they are super crunchy, salted and drenched in garlic oil instead of oil & bits of garlic. Boy are they potent though! Even though I wasn't eating bits of garlic I could still taste it in my mouth the next morning. It was so good my friends and I polished off 3 orders. Maybe we were just hungry when midnight rolled around or maybe these were the perfect antidote to sober up after our shot of Crown. Either way I am definitely coming back! Yummy! read more

My boss frantically ran around the office asking if we wanted to order lunch from V Cafe. I'll admit, I looked at the menu and it was a bit sparse and weirdly fashioned. I'm not used to places which list sandwiches with no sides, etc. It can be a bit touch and go in SF. So I said to hell with it and got the double cheeseburger w/ fries. Sure, I paid 11 bucks. What I got was what cheeseburger heaven is made of. The burger was cooked to my specification (med-rare) and was HUGE. Think Nation's huge (they do delicious burgers in Oakland too). The waffle fries were good, but really only served to soak up the excess grease in my mouth. I felt bad, REAL BAD, eating this huge burger. But not so bad I didn't repeat it the next week. My friend lives in SOMA and said this place was pretty good. They seemed to have a lot of vegetarian options for my friend and great meat options for me! Add this to my "why I love greasy spoons" list. The first time I came here my heart melted over a steaming broiled chicken hoagie sandwich and the no-frills atmosphere (and not necessarily in that order: I hold a certain attraction for blunt, spartan diners in the same way people flock to Dr. Phil for tough love). And that literally steaming chicken smelled almost BETTER than it tasted - but it did also taste really good. So tender it melted in your mouth. Next up was lunch a few months later: I opted for the chicken SALAD and the greens and size and chicken itself did not disappoint. The only bummer is lack of coffee drinks (I really needed one on my 2nd visit), but this is well worthy of greasy spoon stature (recall, this is a very good thing). read more

OK, so maybe the mystique was lost on me because I didn't go in and experience the great service everyone has raved about and I wish I did. Sadly, I work nearby and had been in the office since 7am, up since 4:30 with no food. I was so hungry with no chance for a real lunch break in sight so I decided to yelp nearby places that delivered. V cafe popped up, and I read the reviews and decided to go for it. I ordered fried zucchini, and a mushroom Philly cheese with extra hot peppers and cheese. I was excited by the reviews and was hoping for the best, but as hungry as I was it would have been hard to disappoint.... I'll say this. The delivery was super quick, I received my food in about 20-25 minutes and it was hot and fresh. And they followed my order instructions perfectly. I ate the zucchini first and they were not good at all. Now, I'm not sure if everyone is as particular as I am about their zucchini but this was breaded, then fried. They reminded me of mozzarella sticks from a chain restaurant. Same size, same beading, limp. If you've ever had zucchini from Carl's Jr, then this is the same exact thing, just different shape. I'm not a fan. I will not be ordering that again, and probably won't have a taste for fried zucchini for a while after that. The Philly was on the better side of OK. It was good steak, and although I asked for extra cheese it wasn't quite extra cheesy. The thing that makes a Philly amazing to me is when the onions, peppers, steak and cheese all kinda become one amazing mix of goodness. That didn't happen with this sandwich. While it was definitely huge, and hot which I appreciated. It just didn't meet Philly steak standard of excellence. It wasn't bad, it just want VERY good. I wish I had better things to say, but I'd rather be honest. I'm not a picky eater and I'm also not that yelper who tears everything to pieces, but these items just didn't do it for me. This little place next to the Holy Cow has huge, delicious, garlicky (?!) cheesesteaks. I mean HUGE. Orange on a toothpick huge. Big greasy burgers and criss-cut fries (discontinued? NOOOOOOOOO). My dining companion, the Flaming Carrot had the shrimp po-boy, which he liked okay, but he used to live in New Orleans, so he probably has higher sammich standards than I do. Maybe not as authentic as the Cheesesteak Shop and never as good as Sonia's in San Jose, it's still nice to be able to get a good, greasy mush of meat and other shit in this part of town. Extra bonus; they are open until 2am on weekends. Extra, extra bonus; last time I went there late, after I ordered, I found my car had been blocked in by a fire engine with no firemen to be found. Some very nice squids on Ducati Supersports noted my look of consternation and helped me guide my car through an opening that it wasn't meant to fit. Thank you anonymous squids! Yet again I saw the awesome reviews and knew that I must have gone on an off day. I got the half philly cheese steak with sweet (aka bell) peppers (vs hot was the other option, not sure what hot was) with garlic fries and a soda for $7ish. Awesomely tasty. The garlic fries were some of the best I've had in the city, not too overkill on the garlic, but enough to leave me with bad breath :) It was cold as the arctic in there though...I ate with my jacket on and my fries got cold in a heartbeat :( read more

I've eaten here a few times along with the automotive workers, the folks in khakis colored clothes and IDs hanging off their lanyards and the locals. What tasty and healthy helpings of food. {This review is based on delivery only} So my buddy and I have ordered from here twice the first time we ordered we had a 12" Philly cheese-stake with bacon and a order of there chilly cheese fries which were to die for. There's something about the waffle fries that taste better than the normal cut fries. The second time around we order of course the chilly cheeses fries and a 12" tuna with provolone. Now this was one of the best tuna sandwiches I have had in a long time there was something about the sauce or seasoning that made me want more after each bite. Great place to stop by when hungry after HH at one of the nearby bars. Big 12" Philly Cheesesteaks - not quite the same as those I gobbled in the city of brotherly love - but this fits the bill. All sandwiches average about $7.95, mine had grilled onions, mushrooms, cheese and beef. It's not the kind of sandwich you can't put your mouth around. In fact it squishes down quite a bit, but if you add a side of steak fries and a drink (takes you up to about $10) you'll be set. The mozzarella sticks and fried zucchini were ok too.
