Solid 3.5 stars rounded up because the service was chill and the food is not bad. They've been long standing in the area for lunch and their menu has been pretty steady. A divey spot with no frills and no public restrooms either. The pricepoint is in fair range - i think the fries were frozen and then fried for the order but the burger was cooked well and the fountain soda didn't disappoint. I can't give the full five stars because I don't ever find myself jumping at the option of coming here for a burger for lunch. It is however convenient when the other restaurants in the area are too crowded and take long for service.

    bacon cheeseburger w/garlic fries $16.50

There's a special place in my heart for local diners. V Cafe serves burgers, cheese steaks, sandwiches and salads. Missing are brunch egg dishes, French toast, milkshakes, pancakes and waffles. My bacon cheeseburger w/garlic fries $16.50 was OK. It was a 1/3 pound patty, kind of dry. The meat was cooked correctly. There wasn't enough garlic taste in the garlic fries. Service was OK for an order at the counter establishment. The kitchen was fast.

Daily special: NY steak sandwich and fries ($20)

The steak sandwich was huge. Honestly it could've been 2 meals for me, which isn't bad for $20 pre tax. The steak was super soft and easy to bite through. The waffle fries are great. You pay and order at the counter. They brought the food to the table. Love the variety of hot sauce they have at the back of the store. The staff are hard working. Not friendly but not mean. I've been here multiple times and never left unhappy.

I have been coming to V's cafe for years and it is a staple in the SOMA community. They are most popular for their cheese steaks. However, I love ordering their burgers. Their fries are soooo good just eating that makes me happy. The service is fairly quick if no one is there but it can get busy for lunch. There is plenty of seating and a small booth with stools to enjoy your meal.

Visiting town: went here last weekend and this weekend. Quick service, good food. Highly recommend

I threw the sandwich away after the first bite. I honestly felt I would get sick if I finished it.

On our recent visit, I wanted my wife to experience their cheesesteak for herself. Parking is street parking only, so good luck -- you'll probably have to circle the block a few times before finding a spot. The place itself is small, with just a handful of tables, but it's the food you come for, not the ambiance. What made their cheesesteak stand out for me years ago were the sweet peppers. Unfortunately, they no longer use the same brand (they used to have San-Del sweet pepper strips in sweet brine). Now they use hot cherry peppers that appear to be canned specifically for them. It's not quite the same as I remember, but still good enough that I'd come back. My wife and I both had the original cheesesteak, and you can't leave without getting their steak fries -- they're a must. We enjoyed our meal, and I'd definitely stop by again if parking's available. This place has been around forever, and for good reason. Give it a try if you're in the neighborhood. Prices are standard for San Francisco.

Instead of poking around Yelp for inspiration, I decided to head out to Columbus Ave on foot around midnight on a Friday; smart move, right? As I sauntered past couple convenience stores, strip joints and pizza shops, I landed on Buster's. The brightly lit exterior and bustling interior piqued my interest. How had I never seen this place before? As soon as I stepped in, the smokey aroma of grilled beef and vegetables gave me hope. Without hesitation, I ordered the mushroom Philly cheesesteak with garlic fries. The to-go order was complete within a couple of minutes, and I didn't hesitate asking for a few square containers. (The sauce selection is admirable) I was seemingly able to walk back home at 3x the speed in which I arrived, and I fully attribute that to the anticipation of my first bite. After my first bite, I knew Busters was legit. The quality ingredients, well seasoned vegetables and crispy fries hit the spot; the portions were very generous as well. Highly recommend this place! (I'm also writing this review homage to National Cheesesteak Day, which is today, March 24th)

Their garlic fries were a little disappointing tho. I wouldn't recommend them. I definitely recommend getting the California style cheesesteak . I only had the regular beef cheesesteak and it was good but would've been greatt with the fresh tomato and lettuce. Their hotdogs were also good. And was probably the cheapest meal we had on our whole trip! The service was fast but they didn't seem to enthusiastic about serving people. They worked fast and minded their business. We ate inside and weren't really approached or asked if we were missing anything. Felt awkward to be there .

The guy at the counter was really accommodating and helpful in bringing water to the table, clearing the empty baskets, and bringing boxes for leftovers, so that's definitely a point in their favor. There were others at my table who ordered the mushroom cheese steak with spinach and one without the bun and both those looked really good. Another person ordered the cheesesteak salad. Everyone else seemed to really enjoy their food, so maybe I'll try something different if I went again.
