When I called the company to complain, the manager (Chris) basically told me to pound sand and said he was going to tell his guys to walk off the job. All the bricks were pulled up and the highest standards used to reset and set brick. A cement curbing under the brick not only secured brick but provided a means for directing run off water. The brick was also power washed. (Unfortunately, other remodeling elsewhere created dust and dirt on brick afterwards but that will be hosed off.)

After some gusty days, I found our chimney's rain cap in my backyard, which was the push I needed…read moreto look into finding a contractor for long overdue work on our chimney and front steps. See the before pictures for the chimney, I don't have one handy for the steps, but the mortar was missing from between a lot of the bricks, and the limestone slabs were wobbly and not adhered to the step anymore. Chris responded to the request quickly and came out for an assessment, providing estimates both for a repair and a full rebuild of the front steps, and a repair of the chimney. Both very reasonable and in line with estimates from other businesses. We spoke last Friday, Chris had the formal contracts to me by Sunday, and the team was here first thing Tuesday morning working on the steps. They worked quickly but thoroughly, and were on to the work on the chimney by mid-day Wednesday. Once they were up there, they noticed some issues that weren't visible from the ground view, and Chris walked me through it with the photos and quickly got a revised estimate for what it would look like to do a rebuild of the chimney versus the repair, while also indicating that they COULD still do just the repair, but recommended rebuilding, since he knew we'd be looking to also redo the roof soon. They managed to do the full take down of the chimney to just a few bricks below the roof line and rebuild it back up by the end of the day Thursday, and came back Friday just to install the rain cap and clean up the the materials from the demolished chimney and stairs. Our new steps and chimney look great, and I'll definitely be keeping Kings' contact on file for paving/masonry/foundation work we might need in the future!

Inside the fireplace, grout had all but disappeared on the back / angled wall and several fire bricks were loose. Timeline of events: Sent an email to Ben with pictures and a description of the problem on a Friday at 3:12 PM. He called me at 5:15 PM that evening asking if he could visit to see the job and offer me an estimate, he came by at 5:44 PM, and after reviewing and carefully describing the work needed to repair, he offered his proposal which I accepted. AND the VERY NEXT DAY, a SATURDAY mind you, he and his son arrived at 8:00 AM and the job was completed by 3:00 PM. So literally WITHIN 24 HOURS Ben The Mason had responded to my request, came by to see the job, offered a quote, and did the repairs. The entire experience exceeded my expectations, and I am very impressed with the service and craftsmanship provided by Ben The Mason. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

(see my review on 8/31/2020 for patio work he did at our previous home) Chris and his wife did most of the work, except one day when he brought another person to help. His finished the job within the timeframe we had given him, and the cost was reasonable. The job included: (1) replacing old pavers with new ones on two of our alleyways on two sides of our house, (2) fixing some large square pavers in an elevated portion of our backyard that a tree's roots had pushed up over the years, (3) constructing a white fence gate that matches our neighbors, (4) taking out old rotting wood fencing from one of our side alleys and constructing a new fence with pressure-treated wood, (5) constructing a gated enclosure / extension of our fenced alley to store trash bins and bicycles of our tenants, and (6) constructing two wooden planters in one of our side alleys next to our house for our herb garden. I am attaching a few pictures - that should speak for themselves. Chris did an excellent job, and I wouldn't hesitate recommending him strongly, and would certainly use him in the future.

It was not a straightforward job as the driveway was on a downward slope and needed to be leveled out pretty significantly. The attention to detail was very impressive, the process was smooth and the patio / fencing looks fantastic. Would highly recommend. 5 stars without a doubt.
