Is now the biggest support for our soles as I remember shopping here for my shoes when I was very little was very surprise to see that they have survived all the big shops filled with styles that many crave for though I must admit that I haven't been there in decades until having feet problems and my podiatrist suggested picking up some support for my sad and aching feet. Located on the ground floor of University Plaza which is right behind Raising Cane's on South King Street and the entrance is easiest on Kuilei St as University Ave can get very busy with traffic. You can see their sign right below the staircase though I accidentally walked into a vape shop lol Uyeda is located right beside it. Walking in I can instantly tell it's not at all what it used to be though it's so nice and clean and very organized a lady came out to greet me and find out what I was looking for and for me to describe what foot issues I have as I was told that many bartenders and various working folks that are on their feet constantly are regulars here. Seeing a rack with Oofos and Hoka shoes just to name a few are all known for comfort. As I found the insoles and suggestions it's the place to come for Black Friday she says as everything is 20% off and as these shoes are pricey the value of your feet as it's the foundation of it all is worth every penny. Was in need of new pair of walking shoes so I brought two of my friends who also needed new shoes. Since they know footwear based on your activity and any foot ailments you may have, it's the best place to go. They're pricey, but you get quality footwear. I mentioned that I was going on vacation and was going to do a lot of walking so I tried on a couple of different brands. Then because my left foot had expanded a half size (who knew?) there was only two colors and one make of shoe that would fit the bill: Hoka's. So nice to see that this neighborhood shoe store has been around for decades! Same owner too. Hubby needed to find good walking shoes but also double for a golf tournament (he hardly plays anymore but this is for a high school reunion). Uyeda's is in the little 3-story building on makai-diamond head corner of University Ave and South King St. Uncovered parking lot available, 15 min grace, and also free with validation. Must see the guy in little booth for your ticket. Uyeda's located on the ground floor - diamond head side. You walk in and it feels cool, leather-smelling, nicely decorated, very clean and lots of styles prominently displayed and neatly stacked. Greeted upon entry but they were helping others and let us know they'd be right with us. We walked around looking at all the styles, colors, men and women's, a little area for travel needs like shoe pads, ID protectors, fanny packs, etc. also a rack of sunglasses at the checkout counter for the hikers. There's a mounted TV screen if you're just keeping someone company. Loved walking around seeing the funny signage, decor like an old school rotary phone, Japanese slippers, book about old Manoa Valley, and miniature shoes. First off-- Arlene knows her stuff! She automatically told hubby gotta measure both feet! Not the same size right? She was right. He showed her the sample he liked and she had the shoe in his size but also asked questions so she knew if that would work best for him. Recommended a couple more and he was happy she had his size and looked nice too! There were two other shoe techs working and helping others to find the right deal for them. I loved the small town feel of the place but very professional and knowing things about your feet and how to keep them happy and healthy, which shoes could help or hinder that. Not alot of super high heels for you young clubbers, but lots of stylish 1", 2" , 3" comfort heels and wedges that are safer to wear but still look pretty and feminine. The prices are more than reasonable - not going be the cheap stuff like your typical discount stores- but will be well made, last long, and look good. Plus you get the greatest service and Arlene told us they having sale in November, so I'm already making room in my closet! Main thing is hubby got what he likes (he doesn't like shopping lol) quickly and easily, shoes are comfortable, sturdy with enough grip for the course, walking around Japan, and Arlene actually made it fun for him! 11/25/24 Got to shop at the annual Thanksgiving sale. It's on through Saturday (closed for Thanksgiving). 20% off of everything! How great is that! All quality shoes, great service and knowledgeable staff. I arrived at 9 am, they opened at 9:30 today. I parked up on King Street meter for 2 hours cuz I knew there'd be a live and a wait. They manage the door so it's not too crazy. Bought socks, orthodontics and slippers! I'm happy getting top quality merchandise at a generous discount. 11/07/24 Since I haven't been to the shoes in such a long time, I stopped in yesterday with a friend. Oh my! I used to come here when my mom was alive for work shoes. She was a big advocate for SAS shoes so when I needed something for standing all day, she brought me here to get a pair, They don't have a super huge selection but they are the most helpful shoe store around. I remember them asking me what I needed the shoes for, measuring my feet and staying with me while I walked around to see if I liked them. Customer service is top tier. Recently my dad needed new shoes and wanted to see if this place was still open. Luckily it was! They have the same elite service here after all these years. There are not a lot of places in Honolulu where you can actually get fitted for quality walking/running shoes. My go to place is Uyeda Shoe Store. You get access to quality footwear and knowledgable staff. There is a private parking lot with a guard you check in with. I go for the Hoka shoes and the Oofos sandals. Uyeda's carries pricey stuff and don't seem to have sales but you will get shies that properly fit and are the best choice for your feet. Staff are patient and take the time to understand what you are looking for and what your preferences are to give you the best options. To me, that's priceless! read more

8/27/22 LOCATION: This strip mall is near the University intersection and right around the corner of Raising Canes. Parking is free for store. Let the parking attendant know where you're going and you'll be fine. MISSION: My years of spending $50 or less on a pair of shoes are over! The arches feel like they're caving in, the plantars are annoying and comfort and support far exceeds cuteness at this point. I've gone to another store that was waaay closer, but the selection was minimal. The hubster was skeptical especially as it's like a day trip from the Westside, but he knew better than to dispute it. Decided on Uyedas because of selection and customer service. Well heck, at that they've been in business since 1915 and I INSISTED that we go there first. Once upon a time, people USED to measure your feet for shoes. Not anymore! This place does and then some. It was like taking a foot class... on my own feet!!! The hubster and I have different issues. We both have wide feet and different nuances that was identified. Instead of trying a dozen shoes, I went with the one that was recommended because well...it worked! My mom has been visiting Uyeda shoe store a lot recently. She went to their Black Friday sale and bought three pairs of shoes for us. She knows I love Hokas and I needed a new pair so she picked me up one. The shoe she got me was a little too "bright and cheery" for me so I decided to return it. So I went back to return it with my mom. They have a limit on how many customers can be in the shop at once so we had to wait outside for a bit. There were three of us and I think the limit was five so we waited until it was clear. When we entered, they were quick to service us. A lady came to ask what we were looking for. We told her that we wanted to return a pair and get a different shoe. We showed her the shoe and she asked my size and immediately went in the back. Then another sales guy comes up to me asks what kind of shoe I'm looking for. I told him that I'm looking for Gaviotas. So he helped he find the style I was looking for. He goes in the back and brings me back a pair of Gaviotas. At the same time the lady comes back. She comes back with several shoes. It was interesting that she just didn't really bother to ask what type I was looking for and she just assumed that I wanted the same model that I was returning. I told her that the guy was getting me Gaviotas and she was like those are not the ones that are on sale. I knew they were the sale ones. Gaviota shoes are never on sale. But that's the type that best fits my feet. I ended up working with the guy instead of the lady. He was very accommodating and he even assisted me in putting on the shoes. He even gave me some pointers about my insoles. I ended up getting the shoes from him. They have a great shop and I'd like to go back once these Hokas get worn but I just thought that first encounter was just a little strange. Was looking for an all weather all purpose shoe and right away was introduced to a pair of Altra M Lone Peak All Weather Low shoes. It fit just right for my wide feet and support was just right. Its light weight but made very well. Feels good ergonomically. I went to several big chain stores to include the military exchanges before I found this brand. Influenced by the good reviews I read, I went here to buy shoes and socks for my old (I'm 78) feet.A lady brought out a couple pairs of shoes that seemed to fit ok when I tried them by walking briefly in the store,as did the socks ( I was surprised when I bought them that these shoes and socks were much more expensive than any I ever bought before -- $ 212 for one pair of shoes and 15 $ or more for each pair of socks , but I paid , hoping for the best...After a day or so, both the shoes and socks, I found, after trying them at home, hurt my feet, my legs and my balance--so I called Uyeda by phone (after hours, but requested a call back) and sent them an email, asking for a refund or change in size/brand--One week later I still had no answer from them--so I researched the brands--SAS and Topo shoes and Feetures and NuWool/Outdoor socks also the most expensive socks I've ever heard of---and every one of these brands (although two offered "Lifetime product guarantees" on their websites) stipulated that in order to be returned, all products had to be UNWORN, UNUSED and in the original packaging and condition in which they were bought--?!-- How could anyone experience a problem with them if they were unused, unworn, and in the original packaging ?---so, as the old saying goes : Let the buyer beware....Many seem very happy with their purchases at Uyeda, but I feel it's important for people ( innocent, well-meaning young people, as well as older people like me ,who have never encountered anything like this in50+ years of purchases) to know that purchases here can cause you to have problems like this shortly after spending hundreds on a couple pairs of shoes and socks--and if this happens, the store may not answer any of your messages--and every company that makes these products--Although they all claim to offer lifetime warranties , guarantees and returns--may require that none will be given unless all products are unopened, unworn , unused, in the original packaging, etc.--Googling this problem, I found that it is well known that some manufacturers offer tricky "guarantees" like these--so "let the buyer beware"---Following this experience, I went to one of the city's larger department stores, where I bought a comfortable pair of shoes with a generous long-term guarantee : It had literally dozens of well-known brands that cost only a small fraction of this store's prices--so that will be my choice in the future, and I simply had to write this in the hope that it may help others to avoid my unsettling experience with this store--and that it may even , in the best of cases, influence this store to offer some sort of guarantee or support to innocent, well-meaning buyers. PS--One more important fact: That other store I went to offers a 30-day refund --for whatever reason--on any of the dozens of pairs of footwear they sell. In the future I'll always remember to ask what--if any--guarantee /refunds stores offer --I'd simply never known --in 50+ years of buying shoes--of a store --or shoe manufacturers--who either offered no guarantees at all for their products, or whose "guarantees" stipulated that the shoes returned be completely unused , unworn --and in their original packaging. read more
