I first started shopping at Utsuwa-No-Yakata when they had a store in Kent, WA. When that closed, I was in such dismay missing the quality Japanese-ware at very reasonable costs. I was very delighted when I discovered the shop at Aberdeen Centre, with the same spread and even some high end items in the back. Awesome! I have quite a collection from this store. Mostly bowls of all sorts, different diameters, depths, and slope of walls that I use for salads, ramen, pasta, and serving bowls. I also have (too many) of their boxed small condiment bowls that I use for the dining table and for soaps and trinkets. They are so pretty with high quality glazes. I have an affinity for girly colors, which unfortunately, that selection is limited. The normal colors are blue with whites and dark shades, according to the sales lady. If they have a wider color palate, this would be a 5 stars experience for sure. They do have a couple that have pink cherry blossoms and/or bunnies. There's nothing like eating your meal from dishes that make you smile. I highly recommend this store. :) Check out the pieces in the back wall behind glass. They are for sale with prices to match the behind glass status. An exception is a few piggy-banks that are not piggy shape. Those would make nice gifts. read more

I use the porcelain container as lunch box which I bought at there few years ago. You can use on the dining table as plate or lunch box for work. I got lots of compliments from coworkers and looking for new one again. But they sell only plastic made lunch box unfortunately. read more

I can't believe I never write them a review. It's my favorite Japanese dish store! I only buy my Chinese dining ware at Utsuwa-No-Yakata! Most of bowl and dish sets are quite reasonable. If it's go on sales, it's more affordable. If you look for exclusive or traditional Japanese dining ware, just go to back shelving and check it out. It's so beautiful and classic. The upscale soup bowl and rice bowl sets are pretty fancy and ultra-light weight. It's worth to get it coz the dining ware make up my appetize. read more

Great place to get Japanese dishware. Theyve been around for years providing good quality Japanese pottery in all kinds of forms. Priced from affordable to $$$$. I like getting stuff frorm hear since they have items that come prepacked and make great gift ideas for house warming, the Essential Cook and weddings. Utsuwa-No-Yakata carries basic Japanese pottery - decorative and utilitarian - with price points from ridiculously cheap to high end. While not top of the line, the quality is very good for every day items. Best Bet: Sale tables in front of the store usually feature remaining stock with prices like 3 for $18. Great deals: sale items include tons of bowls for ramen or udon, dipping dishes, side plates. Wonderful quality and options here. The designs on the pieces range from spare/modern to geometric to classic Japanese motifs to children's. In addition to the above, they carry sake sets, hot pots and tea sets. The staff won't bother you unless you ask for assistance, and then they are very kind. Items are wrapped and packed lovingly. Sometimes I've been given a discount card, other times - not. I bought 10 cups from this store while shopping in the Aberdeen Mall. Although the store has wonderful authentic Japanese bowls and plates, the service here is horrible. I was buying the cups at the front desk, and because the weight of the glass was too heavy, I politely asked for one more bag, to carry my cups in. This is what she said: "No, sorry. I don't think that this is heavy enough for a double bag." She also said this in the rudest way possible, and was sneering at me. I asked her once again, "Because I have to ride on the bus to get back home, I was wondering if you could give me a bag, and I could put the cups in." She gave me a firm, "No, and if you want an extra bag, you'll have to pay me five cents." She could have just said, "Sorry, we charge more for bags." in a kind and friendly way, but instead frowned, and got mad at an unknowing customer. I will never be coming back to this store ever again. read more

Gorgeous functional authentic Japanese tableware. I find the best bargains at the sale table up front, they are all dishwasher friendly, no need to baby it and very good quality. The staff do not hover and let you wander at your leisure, they will assist you as soon as you ask. Even for a $20 purchase, they loving packaged it well so that it's easy to wrap it up like a more expensive present. I like the smaller rice bowls, they are hand painted and glaze with lovely patterns. read more

We visited this store during our vacation in Vancouver, BC. I was very surprised that there were so many kinds of Japanese tableware and the price was very good! Great prices, great service, and one time one of the employees ran into the parking lot to find me to hand deliver a tiny little ceramic ornament I purchased but forgot while taking my bags. Gorgeous hand-painted flatware sets that blow away anything at Sears or Pier 1. Lots of cheaper, more affordable student sets, but I go there for the nice stuff. Many different sizes of bowls and plates to choose from ($5 for smaller bowls, $8 for 10" plates, $20-25 for showpiece serving plates), including lovely serving pieces. Great quality for the nice sets (Sai Japan). Looked forever to find part of a set of Sai Japan plates that I bought in Metrotown and was thrilled to find part of the same set (from 4 years ago) available in this store in Aberdeen. Sadly Sai Japan's factory, the owners told me, was destroyed in the earthquake, and my favourite plates aren't made anymore. So many gorgeous handle-less ceramic cups, too. I would pop into this store next time you are at Aberdeen centre and take a look -- get gorgeous Sai Japan plates while you can. read more

I came to Aberdeen Mall to have tea with a girlfriend and we did some browsing in the mall. This was one of the stores that we visited. I walked away with a lot of cheap dishes and kitchen wear. The prices range anywhere from $2 - $10 on average but you walk out with a lot. By the end of the day my backpack was heavy 'cause of all the bowls I bought. The guy I am dating had to give me a shoulder rub after 'cause of everything that I bought. read more
