I had to ship a bunch of stuff, some of it heavy. I came here twice and got the same clerk both times. She was extremely rude and surly, but seemed to know what she was doing more than a clerk I worked with for another part of the shipment at another post office branch. It remains to be seen whether my stuff shows up in any kind of usable condition. This clerk muttered to herself and her coworkers about how heavy my boxes were the whole time, refused to engage in any pleasantries, refused to make eye contact, threw my boxes around wth what appeared to be deliberate intent to be rough, and of course didn't ask me if I wanted to buy some stamps at the end, which I'm pretty sure she was supposed to do. The parking lot here is a really nice feature. I think this branch may have had similar rudeness issues in the past because during my first visit a greeter came out, whose sole job seemed to be customer relations out among the people, she wasn't behind a counter. She was just chatting and offering to answer questions if needed. She was the only friendly person in the place. All of the clerks were looking at me like if just run over their dog. I dreaded making the second trip, but the parking lot lured me back. Anyway, it's lousy but hopefully my stuff will get there, and I'll take competence over friendliness in my post office. read more

No one has high expectations for the USPS. My review in summary is that I've been to better and I've been to worse (avoid the USPS at LaSalle and Lake!!) than the USPS at Ashland and Wellington. This location is large, and seems to have at least 3 staff during the week. I arrived on a Tuesday morning and was slightly frustrated to see a line 5 people deep, with 2 additional people applying for passports, which is a time consuming process. The worst part was that despite the mask requirement (and signs everywhere) the man helping me wasn't wearing a mask - he wasn't even partially wearing one...no mask in sight! Despite this, he was a friendly guy who helped me and offered friendly help, but it makes one feel uncomfortable and unsafe in an unventilated building. read more

Does this place even open at 8:30am? I got here at 8:25am and at 8:45am, I was still waiting outside with a bunch of people for them to unlock the door. I kept looking on the inside and I didn't see any humans. Pretty annoying since this is one of the only ones in the area that opens before 9am. I'm sure just like me, many people choose this one to mail packages before work. I've also been here on random days during my lunch break and after work and there's often only one attendant. read more

Nice and friendly employees, but pretty horrible service. Seems like they don't even know what services they offer. I went in to get a passport renewal when I had a scheduled appointment (for this exact USPS location) and they were confused why I wanted to do a passport renewal there and said there was no agent in to do passports. Why would they allow scheduled appointments for passports when there's no agent to fulfill the service? Something about this USPS location has always felt completely dysfunctional and disorganized to me. Fedex is the move for sure. read more

It's a solid performing location. They kicked me out of line to write something on a box and i had to wait for the next customer to finish up, which I understand to some extent, but it was like 5 or 6 words (an address). Otherwise the line went fast, the people were friendly, and despite it being the holiday season got in and out in good time. read more

The clerks were a lot nicer here than the other usps stores I have been to. The woman who helped me ship my item was nice and funny. I appreciate this because at other usps stores, the clerks are very mean to me for no apparent reason and it's a shame. read more

Quite possibly the worst USPS experience. Waited 45 min to get to a teller and I was the 5th person in line. I understand we're in quarantine and you're trying to limit the times you need to go out, but I swear one teller worked with a customer for at least 20 min due to the amount of stuff being mailed and being packaged or addressed incorrectly. I don't mind waiting, but there was no air conditioning in the building. At least put out a fan or two. I'm trying to support the USPS, but I can see why it's more convenient to go to UPS or FedEx. read more

I am a small business owner and mail out small packages (usually 2-4 at a time) through the USPS several times a week. I typically use the USPS at 3024 N Ashland because it's closest to my home. While I will use the kiosk if there is a long line, if there is no line or only 1-2 people in line, I prefer to have my packages scanned in using one of the clerks. I have had SEVERAL packages in the last 4 months that I've scanned in myself and placed on the pile on the counter that never made it past my scan. This kiosk scan updates the tracking as "USPS is expecting item" only and it looks to my customers like I didn't actually drop off their order. I have lost money due to needing to fill orders twice that I personally scanned and dropped off. With a clerk, the tracking for my customers on Etsy immediately shows "USPS in possession of item" which proves that I mailed out their package and a failure of delivery is the fault of something that happened after it was in the hands of a postal worker. I've been treated so rudely many times when making this "will you please scan and provide a receipt" request, and I've emailed about this more than once with no response. Eyerolls, head shakes, heavy sighs as she tosses my 2oz package on her empty cart, "you people need to do this yourself" comments, and when I try to explain why I need her to scan it, she yells "have a good day and points to the door" while I'm still talking. Today, I was told by the clerk that their manager said "not to accept ANY pre-labeled packages." This is such a poor policy if this is true, and evidence that the USPS doesn't truly care about small businesses or customer service. Refusing to take 30 seconds to scan and hand over a receipt to a customer who is asking for one seems not only lazy, but unprofessional. read more

Best customer service at a USPS location I've ever had. People working there were happy, helpful, and friendly. But most impressive was the fact that they all truly seemed to have fun and enjoy work. I got a feeling of team work from the whole staff. I usually hate going to USPS, but this experience was excellent and I will go to this location again even tho it's the most convenient location for me. read more

My review isn't about this location specifically but the USPS in Wicker Park in general. For the last month every package I've ordered has taken a week extra to get to me. It will ship from the West Coast, get here in two days and then the tracking notes pretty much show that it sits at the distribution center on Carroll for 3 to 5 days. Highly annoying. I know that there were situations with rioting and looting but that should've been resolved weeks ago I'd think. It would be so much easier if we could just go to the post office somewhere and pick up our item - knowing that it's sitting in the same city you're at for 3 to 5 days is just stupid and poor distribution. read more

Wow, this place is a well oiled machine. Amazing customer service! I am in and out within minutes. Everyone is courteous and conscientious of your time. Willing to help! Everyone really seems to enjoy their work and it shows!!!! Thank you!!!!!! Will use this post office again and again. read more

It's as good as a US Post Office gets. Horrendous. Usually I do everything in my power to avoid the Post Office, or at least avoid being waited on by someone. Buy my stamps at Costco or grocery store, ship via Fedex or UPS, I will pay more for Priority Mail so I can use an automated machine at the very least....of course, on the particular day I was there it was broken. As I waited in line I heard a woman ask for a book of stamps and the woman told her they were out of stamps. The Post Office is out of stamps!? Is it any wonder they are operating at such a huge deficit? Like, really...no stamps? That's like going to a restaurant and them telling you that unfortunately they are all out of food. Really gives a true indication of how far gone this public institution is... Avoid if possible, when its not possible...bring your e-reader and take a Xanax. There's a reason that a liquor store shares the parking lot. *1 star because there is Dollar Store next door and the Dollar Store is still my guilty pleasure. Also, parking is easy...unlike the location at Irving/Southport. Booooo! Hisssss! read more

Only three weeks later, and I'm caressing a shiny new passport. I'm not sure if it had to do with my complaints regarding their poor choice of passport photo, but these guys moved some paper fast... and without taking an ounce of extra dough to expedite. Do you like actually getting mail? Do you like talking to people who know what they are doing and are are conscious about the feelings of their customers? Then this post office IS NOT FOR YOU. Normal mail will get to me when they feel like getting it to me. No one wants to help, or cares enough to help. I have lived in other US cities, and in those cities, service like this WOULD BE A CRIME. Saying all I want to say would be a violation of the Yelp review guidelines, so I will not go there. Bottom line, anyone who works for the USPS should be absolutely ashamed of the service at the 60657 and 60614 branches. These people should not have jobs, or atleast jobs here. read more

I am only giving this place two stars because it has an automatic postage machine. If it didn't have the postage machine I would petition Yelp to offer a negative star rating. Today I was mailing off a thin paper back book to my brother. I placed it on the machine and the cheapest charge was $1.54. The machine does not give you the option for media mail so I brought it up to the counter thinking that I could mail it cheaper as it fell under the classifications of "media". I was wrong. The idiot behind the counter told me that $2.24 was the cheapest price available. I explained that the auto-machine quoted me a dollar less. He said "just because it is in a large envelope does not mean you get the large envelop rate". "Okay" I said. He then said "well the package is too big" I ask him to measure it, as I had earlier. It was infact not too big. So then he tells me that "oh your package is rigid, it cant be rigid" and proceeds to fold my book in half. I guess knowing the definition of rigid is not on the postal services application test. So the US postal service screws me out of $.70, so what? It's not about the money its the mere fact that these people working at the post office are dumber than dog shit and they, for a small period of time, have leverage over you. read more

This place is THE WORST!! I sell stuff on Ebay and use the click and ship option. Once upon a time (okay a few months ago) you used to be able to just drop your prepaid packages off on the counter and forego the line but now they make you stand in line to drop your package off. Sorta takes the convenience out of click and ship. It's really no wonder the USPS is going out of business . read more

I'm scared to go here for fear of getting yelled at. I always get a grumpy snarl from the employees but I have recently heard that they can't scan my packages because it takes too long, I should've put them in the box outside to avoid going in and making them work, or just " why am I bothering them"? It's scary and intimidating. I avoid it at all costs. Sometimes I just have to go to the post office though. I try to find any other option. Try to send things in envelopes that can be put in blue boxes. Monday mornings and getting yelled at while at the post office is not a fun start to the week. read more

I avoid physically setting foot inside a post office at all costs, but was forced to when Hubby and I had to submit baby's passport application in person. We chose to do it the weekend after New Years (mistake) since many parents had the same idea. The store itself is sad and dimly lit. We were already discouraged by the sight of the long line. There was also some confusion because there were actually two lines that were parallel, but not separated, one dedicated to passports and the other to mail/retail. No one knew until one of the two lone post office employees made that announcement. Would be helpful to have a sign as well as a rope to separate the two lines. While standing in line we overhead the couple behind us trying to figure out if this location takes passport photos. According to the USPS website, this location does. They had the equipment set up in the space to the left of the line, but after waiting 15 minutes, one of the employees stated that they were unable to take photos today. Several customers had to leave their place in line to get photos at the nearby Walgreens instead. To say that the post office is inefficient is an understatement. There were way more people in the passport line than retail, but only one person doing passports. A third person came out and offered to do renewal applications, but everyone was there for a new passport. So she left and went back to the back...is there only one person during the busy weekend shift that knows how to do new passports? That is ridiculous. Also, there was no regard for workflow - a few people in line hadn't even completed the paperwork, but the lady let them finish doing it right at the counter instead of processing another person's application (who came prepared) in the meantime. There should actually be 3 lines, one for retail/mail, one for people to complete forms, and one for people who are prepared ahead of time! Or at least have an appointment system like other places have. We ended up waiting for 30-40 minutes. The lady processing the paperwork was not friendly at all. She even had the nerve to say to her coworker that they both deserved Employee of the Year awards for how hard they were working that day... read more

Though nestled between the Chinese Buffet and Dollar Tree (two of the happier places on earth), this particular post office feels like the place where dreams die. Just kidding (not really). The only positives of this location are that it's open for business on Sundays (which means you can get mailing supplies if you need them on a Sunday - and you can get what you need into the mail system as soon as Monday hits) and the self-service machine sits mere steps from the entrance. However, if you have to head inside for actual face to face communication, you'd better be prepared. Never before have I seen other customers consistently belittled and rudely corrected if they aren't 110% prepared with their parcels and letters. While it may not seem much to ask for assistance in knowing which form to fill out, or which method is best for shipping, the staff at Graceland USPS feel you might as well be begging for their kidneys. I recently mailed a parcel with an international destination and there was hell to pay; it appeared that I didn't have a customs declaration filled out. Lucky for me, the form was completed so the employee quickly extinguished the flames of hate and she was pleasant. The point is..make sure you know what you're doing and the visit will be as painless as possible...that is, after twenty minutes of watching other customers get faulted for their USPS ignorance. read more

The only reason why I'm giving this place a star is the Streetwise guy who is always right outside, opens the door for me and my SUV-sized stroller, and is the only glimmer of humanity in an otherwise godforsaken hellhole of Kafkaesque proportions. I cannot express strongly enough just how terrible this post office is, and I am only doing so now to fight the feeling of gloom that spreads over me just thinking about it. The place is run down and shabby and its employees are so dispirited (presumably by the fact that they have to work there) that they try to make your experience as awful as quite reconcilable with sanity. You never ever leave under half an hour no matter when you go there, how many people there are in line, or how ridiculously basic your errand is. Staff isn't rude so much as congenitally depressed. Result: when you step up to the counter, the employee behind it will open a bleary eye after about 10 seconds of wait time, slowly wander around the room before settling on you, oh hapless customer, then close it again for a quick snooze. When they finally get going, the verb "go" still doesn't seem quite appropriate to describe the almost supernatural slowness that these poor souls apply to their job. I have found myself again and again watching transfixed as a postal worker puts a stamp on my letter in the same time span it took me to write it. Unless you wish to atone for past sins, stay away from this vortex of awful. Instead, go to the extremely pleasant Glenview post office - it takes me almost exactly the same time to drive all the way up there, send a package and go back home, and I live in Lakeview. You'll still spend an hour and a half, but at least you'll have saved your soul. read more

USPS, after today's experience, you've officially lost my business forever. I'll easily pay a little more for FedEx or UPS's superior customer service... After waiting in line for 45 minutes (2 clerks working in slow motion for a line to the door is NOT a great way to show me you value my time or business), the miserable clerk that I began to talk with immediately turned me away for securing my box shut with duct tape. "Oh no, we can't take anything with duct tape" was the exact phrase used. Could she have made an exception? I honestly don't know... Could she have been 1000% friendlier? Could she have offered to re-secure the box with packing tape? Would I have happily paid a little extra for it? Absolutely... The continued lack of customer service at this location has finally hit my threshold for "I'm never coming here again" status. If I could vote to have it shut down and the employees let go, I would in a heartbeat. read more

I don't know how it's possible but this place is actually getting worse. Do not expect "collection times" to mean anything. I just dropped off a piece of express mail and I actually expect it to simply sit at the post office overnight.... Like it has before. Generally not accommodating. With some exception, pretty rude. Used to actually be a great post office a few years back. Went downhill quickly and keeps going down. read more

Somebody earlier posted about the clerk being rude, condescending, and not wanting to help scan a prepaid package (a 5 second task) and I can't agree more! My first time walking into this post office and there was NO LINE. Saw 3 Usps women behind the desk, 1 was helping a customer, and 2 were loudly chatting. I waited in line (only person). One asked me what I want. I said to drop off a prepaid package. She said "drop off over there" pointing at a general area. I said I want a receipt can you please scan. She said NO USE THE MACHINE. I said it's really quick I just need a receipt. She said NO USE THE MACHINE. So I tried to figure out the machine which wasn't intuitive. They were YELLING directions like I'm some kind of moron (whole time I was thinking if you only stopped yelling at me while I'm doing it then maybe I can read the instructions better). Finally got it done and they were clapping and saying yay you did it you did it like I'm some imbecile. Like fuck you woman, you could have just scanned it and give me a fucking receipt when there was NO LINE. This is your fucking job yet you choose to just yap away while yelling at the customer and condescendingly clap when they did YOUR JOB?! Wow. Like what the over reviewer said. I dropped off a pre-labeled package. I am giving it 5 stars because of location. There is a parking lot. Also in the parking lot there is a clothing donation drop off bin which I liked because I also happened to have clothes to drop off. It's 11am and there are about 3 people in line. The clerks are standard usps workers. Awake and with pulses. Yes, it is true they have no Tape. You can buy next door at the dollar tree. Also prepaid packages can be left all the way on the left of the counter. So you may see 2 tellers and to the left of them there is no teller, that is where you drop off your pre paid packages read more

There's not really any point in writing a review or complaining about the post office, because it will just fall on deaf ears. This review could be for any post office I'm forced to use, but this place was particularly awful. Was told I could overnight a letter by the clerk, address entered, payment taken. I was a little apprehensive about coming here after they closed the post office in Wicker Park, but I soon realized that this was a major upgrade. Going to the post office in Wicker Park used to drive to me to drink - It would take me at least a half an hour just to reach the counter while I watched people lazily handling business that should have taken a lot more efficiency and speed. At this post office (if you go during the week), one can get in and out much more quickly and I found the counter staff to be much more friendly and helpful. If you find yourself there on a Saturday, however, be prepared for a long wait. Another plus is that the parking lot is really big. On the downside, there is no longer a post office in Wicker Park - this can be a pain to get to if you have a lot of packages to mail and you are taking the bus. read more

Word of advice...get here early or you'll be waiting forever. And don't come here to get all your passport stuff done. I came here around 10:00am to just drop off my documents for passport name change. Some other people standing off to the side were there for complete passport application, photos and all. I don't expect postal employees to be my BFF's. A trip to the post office isn't supposed to be like shopping at a high-end boutique. That said, yes, sometimes the line is quite long. I've never been to a post office that didn't often have long lines. I stopped in here for the first time in several months, as I needed to get a passport (first timer). I researched the process beforehand so I already had the application filled out and all my documents ready when I stepped up to the counter. There are two lines, one for passports and one for everything else. There was only one person ahead of me in the passport line. Once it was my turn, I stepped up to the counter and the lady told me what she needed from me (application, birth certificate, photo, ID). She was not friendly nor was she unprofessional. She did her part on the application, then told me where to sign, finished up, asked if I wanted regular or expedited processing, told me my total, handed me my receipt and told me it would come in the mail in 4-6 weeks. Sweet! The whole process took maybe 15 minutes, tops. I didn't make a new best friend here, but I will be getting a shiny new passport in a few weeks. No complaints. read more
