When calling to check delivery status on items being shipped that have a strange status request, you want to calm and get accurate description to the status - BUT, the people at this facility MEVER answer the phone. No option to leave voicemail and the ringer rings for probably 5 minutes and then disconnects. So, I call back and continue to do so for the next 45 minutes - NO ONE ever answers the calls!!! Not helpful to customers at all. The entire Chicago USPS is God awful and no supervisors or managers se to care either. If you can, don't use USPS as they customer service is nonexistent and half the time they "lose" your package. Ship with UPS instead and actually speak to someone whe having and issue with your delivery. This PO sucks and the people working there have ZERO customer service skills. read more

I had a package I needed to send, but I don't own a printer and I needed to print a prepaid shipping label. After about 10 minutes of standing at the desk ringing the bell, a woman begrudgingly walked out, asked what I wanted, and I said I needed to ship a package but didn't have the label printed so I was hoping they could print it for me. For the supervisor that was working today, October 9th, 2024, who made me cry and never apologized...was it really that serious? Came to pickup some packages that had failed to be delivered to my apartment in Chicago due to "No Access" after receiving an email from this USPS location that my packages were awaiting pickup. I'm a college student living on my own for the first time & I've never had to pickup packages before, so I didn't know the proper process. Plus, the email from the supervisor of this location said nothing about the necessary identification. They bring my mail out - I tell them I don't have my ID - the supervisor yells at me "You're 21, you're grown, you should know how these things work" as well as a litany of other condescending and disrespectful things that eventually brought me to tears. I offer to show them the email confirmations for each of my orders as well as my lease & virtual student ID that shows my identity - all of which were ignored by the woman who practically called me an idiot to my face. She did not apologize & was gone after I went to get my ID from home. I understand workplaces are frustrating & people have all kinds of stuff going on but this was just mean - I'm a receptionist and even on my worst day I would not treat someone like this, no matter how naive or childish they came across. If you think you're going to be immune from this kind of treatment at this establishment, you're not - it doesn't matter to them if they disrespect you, make you cry, and it definitely doesn't matter to them if you get your packages, mail, etc. read more

I think this place may be a front and needs to be reported to USPS.. I dropped off 4-5 very important packages almost 2 weeks ago and still haven't gotten them! I call and they never answer. I'm out of town so I can't visit but when I went to drop everything off there was absolutely no one working or around or guarding / looking over the packages being dropped off. I have put my mail on hold online and in person by filling out a yellow card. I also gave another yellow card to one of the Postal workers who was in a truck. He promised to deliver my card. This is the worst USPS location ever. Customer service here is horrible and they never answer their phones. I arrived 14 minutes after they closed on a Saturday and called the supervisor to see if they could give me my package because it was urgent. She asked me when the delivery date was and argued with me for 5 minutes about whether the package was urgent or not, since the delivery attempt was 3 days ago. No mail for two days, both neighbors on either side received mail. I have tried to reach the Lincoln Park office which is located at 2643 N. Clark Street by phone. Three calls were disconnected after 15 rings. The most recent call was answered and I was told to hold: which I did for twenty minutes before being disconnected again. Just reached out to Alderman Hopkins and Quigley's offices for help, don't know what else to do. I have had mixed experiences at this post office. There have been times where I was treated like I did not know anything and other times, it was a pleasure. The USPS customer service always directs me the post office on Sheffield and when I was there, they told me that the customer service always does this. I mean, why can they not change it on their system? Anyway, I have called here once or twice to know status of my package and they were EXTREMELY rude! I feel ridiculous pointing this out, but this is my second 1 star review of a Chicagoland US Post Office. I'm not sure what I can add to the conversation because other Yelpers have pretty accurately captured the vibes this location is giving off. I fully understand and empathize with service workers. It's not fun. You deal with mean/impatient/dumb/you-name-it customers all day, but you are getting paid to deal with it. I worked in retail for 5 years and experienced the whole spectrum of overly nice to incredibly rude customers, and guess what, they were all treated with respect and dignity by me, because that's what I got paid to do. Apparently the USPS employee(s) at this location do not approach customer service in the same vain. When I walked into this location to inquire about a "delivered" package, I expected at the very least an empathetic and apologetic employee for the inconvenience and potential for over $100 worth of merchandise to just be "lost." Instead, she did not look at me a single time, and was annoyed when I couldn't recite the 25 digit tracking number by heart. Sorry that I had to pull it up on my phone because there is no way I can remember that number. She was incredibly annoyed at me after only being in there for about 90 seconds. My interaction with her lasted MAYBE 4.5 minutes and thank god not a second longer. I'm not sure if this says more about USPS or about humanity, but can we all try to be decent to each other? We don't know each others' stories, which is why I continued to be pleasant to this employee even though she rightfully did not deserve a smile and a "have a nice day" at the end of our interaction. My star is double negative for this location. The WORSE service ever. The female human that works there who needed wears her pin where supposed to show hER name ... she is so rude. I have been there just dropping off packages and she never inform - help -do her job in the positive way. I went last Friday morning to try to find out WHAT HAPPENED TO MY PACKAGE..... which package is under my son's name (many packages came home with my son's name ... never a problem) she was so rude, I asked her to look for my package , I gave her the 22 track numbers ... and she told me " you are the nanny, you don't live there " ... she didn't asked me - she affirmed this sentence. Then she told me : " SHE WILL LOOK FOR YOU PACKAGE AND MAYBE DELIVER IT TODAY OR NEXT WEEK....." who is she????? I don't know maybe the person who delIvers packages at my location??? Another USPS package was deemed "undeliverable" and sent to the N Clark annex. This has happened many times and is very frustrating. UPS and FedEx never seem to have trouble delivering my packages. USPS delivers my letters just fine, but packages are "undeliverable" even if there is no signature required. Phones are not monitored well, I called 5 times before someone answered. Then someone answered and immediately hung up. Then I called back and finally reached someone, only to have them have a major attitude problem. She asked for a tracking # and when I said, "one moment while I pull that up," she put me on hold for another 5 minutes. When she returned, I asked, "Are you ready for the tracking number?" and she said, "I was ready when I answered the phone, you weren't ready." Then she asked me to tell her my first and last name. My last name is pretty unusual, so I always spell it out first. Once I did that, she said, "May I HAVE your last NAME?" I was confused and figured she hadn't heard me, so I spelled it again. She rudely responded even louder, "MAY I HAVE YOUR LAST NAME?" So I pronounced it and she was satisfied. From my experience, "customer service" is a very large stretch here. It's like pulling teeth just to get someone on the phone, then when they answer they are rude, often unhelpful, and put you on hold for 5-10 minutes at a time. This woman did mention that they are severely understaffed at the moment. I completely understood, after being told that important information, why she had very little patience on the phone. I wish she had mentioned that up front because her poor attitude really soured my experience. Regardless, I plan to avoid using this USPS location at all costs. read more

1 star is even being generous to this IDIOTS. A package was to be delivered, priority mail 2-3 business days. It took 5 days before a notice "was left". Only to never find a notice and with my anticipation I called to USPS to find where my package was and they said "O Gee it's at Lincoln Park Carrier Annex". They should've said "O Gee Good Luck, God Bless" or "Next time UPS/DHL/FEDEX that shit". I call the annex and tell them the receiver, my sister, does not have the notice, that either it was never left, or not permanently glued enough to the door of her business so the gusty wind must've blown it away... but that we now know it is at the annex and that I am free to rid them of these packages. They answer: "No no no. You need dat piece of paper. Ima need to talk wit my supavisor bout dat.".... Me: "But ma'am, I have a written authorization with a signature and scanned state ID of the sender, even a Social Security Card, Birth Certificate, or a ledger of her fingerprints if you must... besides we look identical in our IDs and with the same last name I think even a blind man could determine we were sisters." (OK I admit I only said about half of that) Dem: "You need dat piece of paper. Hold on." (on hold for maybe 12 mins) Dem: "Hellow?" Me: "Ya?" Dem: "Ya you need dat piece of paper." Me: "Your telling me, even my sister in her own flesh and blood couldn't pick up her packages with her ID herself?" Dem: "Yes Ma'am." So my sister calls and rages at them on how she needs that package, it's for her wedding which is in 3 days, and that she physically cannot come herself, and needs me, her sister and maid-of-honor to pick it up for her. What do they answer? Dem: "O, uh, dat package ain't here ma'am. You need to call the sender and get the tracking to find where it at." Not the answer she was expecting. Rage ensues. So she calls the sender, gets the tracking number, tracks the package to the "Lincoln Park Carrier Annex". We KNOW it's there now. Not only USPS headquarters says it, but the tracking says it. So I call the next day to try to remedy this for my sister. Me: "I am looking for a package for my sister Mel Con. I see that a delivery attempt was made per the tracking but no notice was given. Can I come in a pick it up?" Dem: "Hold on." .... (after 8 minutes of holding) "Please hold again I gotta talk to my supervisor"... (after 10 minutes of holding) "Hold on again ma'am"... (for what this time I dunno, maybe he's eating lunch, or pissing, or smoking, or sleeping... but after 5 minutes later) "Sorry ma'am your package isn't here, call dis numba to claim your package missing: 555-FUR-SELF." I call that number and its for stolen mail, to claim mail bombs, or fraud. It's all too odd for wedding seating cards. Maybe someone is conspiring against my sister's wedding? Anyways that number told me to call the sender to reconcile the issue. Really? Your answer is, this isn't your problem? So I dreadfully call the annex again. Me: "I called earlier looking for a package for Mel Con. Tracking says its here, USPS headquarters says its here, lost mail recovery says nothing of it being their problem. Are you sure it's not there?" Dem: "Please hold for 25 mins while I check."... (I clean my house head to toe, I run a marathon, I watch the director's cut of all the Lord of the Rings)... "Ya ma'am your packages are up in here, there's 4 of dem up front." Me: "Do I need to bring another person to help me carry them or can I carry them myself?" Dem: "It a bit much to be carrying yourself ma'am." Me: "Ok I'll come with someone, on my way now." I get there and these packages are not that big. I could carry all four of them under my arms. I could possibly stuff them in my bra. I didn't have to take an employee with me that could be working instead. But whatever. At this point I am happy to have these damn packages and by now my sis and I now know that next time we will UPS/DHL/FEDEX that shit. read more

Dang, the customer service is crap at this location. I came here to drop off a package and already had the mailing sticker printed out, so I didn't have to pay for anything. I rang the bell and a woman came out and started to give me attitude. She told me that if I need packages mailed, that I should go to the one on Sheffield, which was fine. But I told her that I already have the mailing sticker for my package that was prepaid and I just need to drop it off. She stared at me and then said, "Fine." I asked her if she has any packaging tape to close off the bottom and she asked me that if I had any. I didn't and if I did, I wouldn't have asked. She told me that she was running out of tape and made a big production out of it. Then she finally gave me a small piece, which I hope will hold up. Hopefully I don't have to deal with this place ever again. UPS or FedEx sounds like good options to me. read more

Why doesn't Yelp allow for negative stars? If they did, this waste of space would get negative 5. We have had nothing but problems with the idiots at this place. I've actually sat in my living room, watched the carrier deliver our mail, then go and get the mail only to find a "delivery attempt" slip in the box. This happened twice in a week. He didn't even attempt delivery. We called the annex and were told that there's nothing they could do because he didn't even write the tracking number on the slip. I also just had a mail order prescription sent to me. It showed it was out for delivery on a Friday morning. The mail came around 5pm and it wasn't in there. I called the annex and the lady told me there wasn't anything she could do because the carrier didn't have a cell phone and she couldn't call him and see if he had it on his truck. What carrier doesn't have a phone? 99.9999% of carriers I see have a bluetooth in their ear and are busy making personal calls while delivering mail. She then went and checked at the annex and couldn't find it. She told me she'd call me back after the carrier got back from his route (which was around 7pm). To her credit she did call back, but then told me she missed the carrier and told me she'd calll me back at 1030 the next morning. No call. At 11:15 I called and asked about it. It's now 11:45 and I'm still on hold while they do Lord knows what. We routinely get mail for our neighbors, and sometimes for people who live a mile away. I don't care if they're short staffed or not. This is unacceptable. The USPS could go down to delivery one day a week and I'd be completely fine with that. If you live within the delivery area under the jurisdiction of this annex, I'd suggest just getting things sent to your work. I've complained to the 800 number and am now going to be complaining to my Congressional Rep and Alderman. For them to not know where $1,000 worth of prescription medication is is beyond unacceptable. It's downright dangerous. read more

I live in Lincoln Park and my five unit building does not have a working buzzer/doorbell/com system. I posted a list of the tenants and phone numbers asking for USPS to call us so we could come down to pick up/sign for the packages. USPS has never called. (One USPS carrier said they shouldn't have to use minutes on their cell phones to deliver packages. Good point. A counter argument is that it is their job to deliver the mail.) USPS would deliver mail in the small mail box outside. If something didn't fit, they would try to "deliver it" the next day and it still wouldn't fit and they still wouldn't call, so packages were in limbo for about 3 days until the carrier left the package at the Annex, which is open 9-5 M-F (when people are at work) and Saturday from 8-12, which is easy to miss. For packages that do not need a signature, I had to buy a Key Keeper which holds a key to the apartment entryway locked inside the Key Keeper and USPS provides a lock. That helped because USPS could leave packages in the entryway. For packages that require a signature, they still don't call, and the limbo/annex situation comes up where I have to pick up the package myself. The annex numbers 773-525-5994 or 0863 are sometimes busy for a while, sometimes free. Not the easiest to get through all the time. read more

The women here were rude and indignant that they had to bring me a package from the other room. I never write reviews, and I don't really expect a lot from people. I wasn't expecting the post office to roll out the red carpet for me and treat me like a VIP. But I expected mail to be delivered to my mailbox. One month after I moved into my new apartment, no mail in my mailbox. No bills, no rent, no letters, notices--nothing. I called the post office to ask why, and a woman told me I wasn't in their system (I had my addressed changed online a month ago, paid a dollar and got confirmation) and she couldn't help me. I had to ask her 3 times to even go see if they had any mail for me. She said they didn't. She told me to check at my old address. I have been waiting for weeks for several things that were specifically sent to my new address. I told her that and asked her where else I could look for my mail. That's when she went from rude to downright hostile. She never answered my question, even after an hour of asking, and kept raising her voice at me. I asked to speak to her supervisor. She said she didn't have one. Now I'm stuck- I can't pay bills because I don't know how much or where to send my checks, for example. Just trying to be a good citizen, you see. Just hoping the USPS will find this and A. help me find my mail, and B. be aware that there's a woman at this location who is treating customers horribly. read more

I got on yelp today for the sole purpose of poetically ransacking this US Post Office annex in the hopes that MAYBE the government cares enough to read how poorly their institutions are run. Case in point: I get a slip that says I missed a package (it's highly suspect that this package could have fit in my mailbox...). Okay, great. The slip says to bring my ID along with the slip. Due to their impossible hours, I leave work early to go to this annex, where my package is being held hostage. I get there with 15 minutes to spare. "Do you have a piece of mail with your name and address on it?" disgruntled USPS says. "No," I say. "But I have my state ID, which the slip says to being identification." "We can't give it to you without a piece of your mail at this address." "The slip doesn't say that," I protest. "I just moved and that's going to be difficult." ""We can't give it to you without a piece of your mail at this address." "Please," I plead. "I've never been asked for a piece of mail before." "We can't give it to you without a piece of your mail at this address." This proves that this pathetic excuse for a USPS (ahem, they don't sell STAMPS?!?!) is making up their own rules. I called USPS headquarters. Apparently, individual locations CAN make up their own rules. If it was in writing that I had to bring in a piece of my mail to receive a package, fine...my mistake.
