So I read the actual USPS policy and here it is. LAZY!!! Gucky! I had to do a stop payment on my check, which cost $32.00, and make a phone payment in order to avoid late charges. This is the THIRD TIME this has happened. In total I have had to pay $96.00 for stop payments due to the post office's mistakes. I have called their customer service several times to complain about this but it just keeps happening. I also get other people's mail all the time and my mail delivered to wrong addresses. We pay postage to have our mail delivered so I feel that when they lose our mail they should have to reimburse our postage and whatever else their carelessness has cost us, such as the stop payment fees or late charges but they refuse to do this. I'd like to point out that I send all my mail directly from the post office so it's not like it's getting taken out of my mailbox. USPS has become so unreliable and irresponsible that I am afraid to send anything through the mail. Any future payments I have to make will be done by phone or online because I can't trust our postal service to do their job.
