Classic Concierge took over the concierge services for my building when it recently changed…read moreownership. I've never met so many of my neighbors waiting in line for the concierge to return to the desk. The line will be more than 6 people deep. This never happened with our old concierge staff! In fact, our previous concierge staff were at the desk far more frequently than the Classic Concierge staff. I've waited more for the concierge to return in the almost 3 months since Classic Concierge took over than I did in the more than 7 years with our old fantastic concierge staff. The desk is vacant far more often than it is actually staffed! This results in having to waste time waiting for package pick-up. It also results in a less secure building because the previous concierge was there more and able to control visitors and delivery people and now the desk is unmanned for long periods at a time. The front desk staff seems to always be on a break no matter what time you try to pick up a package. For example, I'm writing this review while waiting for front desk staff to return from yet another break. The sign said they'd be back at 8:30 pm, but then almost 15 minutes later and still no one is here. When Classic Concierge first took over they failed to give me all of my packages on numerous occasions and it's only when I said I was missing packages and was allowed around back that I found the rest of my packages. The staff also says sometimes they step away to cover when the other building's concierge goes on break so we should look for them next door. However, that makes no sense because it just leaves my building unattended for our concierge's break and then the other person's break so it doubles the time they're away! Also, the staff has told me they're tired or complained about other things when I've gone to pick up a package. I'm sorry to hear you're tired but it's not my fault and I'd like to go home too if I didn't have to spend so much time just trying to pick up my package. The front desk staff not being there has also resulted in the lifeguard having to wait for them to return, as well as people who have to wait to get their IDs back, it's super frustrating to just have to wait for Classic Concierge to come back at some point when you have no idea when that'll be! Unless you want the residents of your building annoyed by the time their wasting for classic concierge to actually be at the concierge desk, I would not recommend this company at all!

Classic Concierge is contracted to service the property in which I live (Gables City Vista). The…read morelevel of service and professionalism are lacking for many, but not all when compared to the many other services I've lived with at different buildings in DC. I fault primarily Gables City Vista management for allowing it. But Classic should also insist on consistent training and professionalism from it's staff as lack of it reflects poorly on them. I had one Class Concierge staff tell me that it was not her job to call me (from the tenant roll on her desk with our phone numbers) to let me know a guest is downstairs. My guest needs to call me to tell me they have arrived. And then I need to call the concierge to tell her that my guest is there (standing there in front of the concierge after showing id and being logged in) and to let my guest up? WTF? That is EXACTLY the job of a concierge. Almost as stupid as telling me to come downstairs to let my guest in. Why do we need a concierge then? And no, this is a community policy. I don't want to paint them all with a broad brush - one gentleman is particularly amazing which is why this review is two stars and not one. They're all generally nice enough. But the quality of service and staff should be consistent and professional. It amazes me that someone that pretty much sits there all day would tell me that it is not her job to open her book and call me to let a guest up. Taking packages and handling guests and deliveries. Making my life easier, pleasant and convenient. Is that's why we have a concierge in the first place? Look elsewhere if you looking for a quality concierge service. This company has poor quality controls in place.

We rented a unit in Parkfairfax managed by this property management company and their "property…read moremanagement" was a disaster. I experienced constant flooding and sewage leaking from the kitchen sinks (yep, 2 sinks), giant sized insects invading our space, decaying floor boards from water damage, 3 years of uninterrupted mold and mildew, the need for a dehumidifier requiring 4 buckets of water to be dumped daily, and the last stray was a bathroom ceiling leaks flooding the unit requiring a 1 month stay in the hotel paid for by my insurance and I still had to pay the rent for my unit. During those 3 years, I suffered terribly from respiratory problems for the first time in my life. No empathy shown by the leasing agent or landlord for the major and myriad inconveniences. Upon returning to the unit in addition to the floor repairs they used substandard contractors to paint the walls. During my stay at the hotel (on my insurance's dime, mind you despite paying the full month's rent DURING it's renovation) I was not notified that the walls would be painted until AFTER the work was done, nor was my artwork removed from the walls prior to painting. The substandard painters merely painted around my artwork. Essentially their substandard painting contractors sealed the damage free adhesive to the walls with the paint making the artwork impossible to remove without damaging the wall. Moreover, the substandard contractors also painted over the back door sealing it shut. Upon move-out, the property management company wanted to penalize me for the damage caused by their own substandard painters shoddy work, since there're still holding on to my security deposit. As a prospective renter, my experience was very poor. The man who showed me the apartment I was…read moreinterested in was very nice, but didn't know much about the property or me (he was waiting in a different unit than the one I wanted to see because he got mixed up). That would have been fine. But what really annoyed me was the application process. The management is not familiar with more modern ways to verify employment and income (such as third party service) and insisted on unredacted pay stubs - which is much less secure. The interaction as we went back and forth was rude and reminded me of scammers trying to get one to divulge information urgently (because so many people are interested in the apartment!) at the cost of better judgement. In trying to get more information from me they cited their "policies" but being unable to articulate why their policy insists on having the information I didn't want to share (like my pre-tax deductions) This conversation was not with some mid-level employee but what seemed to be the owner. I should hope he could articulate the reasoning behind his own policy! To me, this company clearly orients themselves to customer service of property owners, not renters. Which fair enough, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. To the reader/renter: Don't let these people bully you!

Prompt responses to emails, quick answers to phone calls, transparent updates throughout the process, and even reassurances to call you back if they are tied up at the moment (and they actually call back as soon as they can!) Since my roommates and I are all out of town at the moment, and unable to tour the property in person prior to signing the lease agreement, Hanna assured me that her assistant Johnny would send me a video tour the following day. And sure enough, the next day - Johnny had a detailed video tour of the home in my inbox. Any question I had about the property, Johnny was able to answer. We so look forward to working with Hanna and her team during the duration of our lease agreement. If the last week is any indication of how our experiences will be as Rent the District tenants, I very much look forward to staying at this property. Hanna and Johnny were both very friendly, and professional. I will recommend Rent the District to any of my friends who look to rent or have property management services in DC. Thank you again!

When we first started with Scout Properties, things were great. Our first manager, Nick, was…read moreprofessional and easy to reach. But after Victor took over, everything went downhill fast. I'm not sure Victor ever really knew who we were and I can't be sure he ever visited the apartment before things really went to crap. He completely missed a major toilet leak--even after the tenant moved out--which left us with a cumulative $5,773.14 water bill. Then Scout didn't handle the tenant's voucher renewal properly, with no warning to us, which made the tenant move out early and cost us rental income. Even worse, we've now been stuck for several months without a tenant and have had to cover all the turnover costs ourselves. Despite that, Scout still charged their full management fees while barely responding to us. All of a sudden, Scout dropped us as clients (including our neighbors who were clients also), kept the fees, and stopped returning calls. Our next‑door neighbors had the same experience -- and told us their tenant was even offered an apartment at another property managed by Scout. Everything started fine but turned into one expensive, stressful mess. Don't hire Scout Properties unless you want poor communication, big bills, and months of lost rent.

You get what you pay for, their units aren't that expensive, and it's for a reason. I thought I…read morescored a deal when I recently moved into a unit on Bunker Hill Rd (early June) managed by this team, however, I have had a mixed experience. While some communication has been responsive, the overall condition of the apartment and follow-through on certain issues have been disappointing. Upon move-in, the unit was not thoroughly cleaned. There were hardened food splatters in the microwave, a dirty stovetop, stained cabinets, filthy outlet covers and light switches, and windows that looked like they had never been cleaned. One of the bedroom windows didn't open at all. The living room and bedroom floors were also worn and splintered--rough enough to tear pieces off my mop while I was cleaning. I submitted an inspection report with photos and received a response from the property manager acknowledging the concerns. A bathroom wall hole was patched (though the repair was done without any coordination or notice), and I was told the chipped toilet tank issue was being reviewed with the landlord. As of now, I haven't received a follow-up. I was also told the technician would be reminded to be more mindful of cleanliness, as the workspace left behind wasn't ideal. The most concerning issue, however, was finding a roach inside the microwave--before I had even used it. That was the final factor that led me to submit an early lease termination notice 22 days after receiving the keys. I'm giving 3 stars because rent payment through the portal was convenient, and Victor did respond to some of my concerns (however, it felt like he never responds to an email in its entirety). But the move-in experience, unresolved maintenance issues, and poor communication has bothered me entirely. I hope more attention is given to preparing units for future tenants and being more efficient in communication.

They claimed it "couldn't be cleaned," but when we asked for proof of any cleaning attempts, they provided none. The only thing they sent was an invoice for the replacement -- no documentation of damage, no service report, and no photos from before or after. To make matters worse, there were no move-in photos to show that the washer seal was ever clean in the first place. That's a big red flag. According to Virginia law, tenants have the right to an itemized list or receipts for any deductions from their security deposit. What we received barely met that standard and felt like an attempt to quietly pass repair costs onto us. Charging nearly half the price of a new washer for a single part, with zero transparency, is not how treat good, hardworking tenants. Certainly seems like it would be a major repair. It's frustrating, and sadly, not uncommon. I have read far too many reviews where this kind of thing happens. If you find yourself in a situation like this, it may be worth exploring your options -- including small claims court. Tenants have rights, and you deserve to be treated with fairness.

I'm starting to doubt it even exists, and that they lied about everything. That's not even including the months of literal hell having to deal with this tenant. Their response to me when I requested the tenant's credit check, background check, eviction history, etc. which as the landlord I never received a copy: "Hi Jessica - Thank you for your email - I hope you are doing well. Unfortunately, as a third party screening service, per both the federal fair credit act as well as our own company policy we do not unilaterally share private tenant information without the tenants consent. Additionally, we are prohibited from sharing a tenant applicant's credit report per our agreement with Equifax." Fortunately, I have ways available to me where I can obtain the information I need as it only takes a little more time and effort. I understand that Globe Trotter primarily works with Department of State clients, as well as military and other government officials. I hope my experience makes you a more informed consumer when you are considering letting Globe Trotter manage your property before you go overseas.
