It's run by a gem of a lady named Linda, who not only shares that name with my mother-in-law, but she is also so friendly, so helpful, and just so, so nice. This is the post office my wife grew up with, and she didn't understand why everyone hates the post office until she moved to Brooklyn. Having been to this post office recently, now I get where she was coming from. I'd rather fly up to Rochester to take care of mail-related issues here than deal with it all at home. ____________ *I suppose I haven't actually been to every post office in the nation, but I feel confident saying that it doesn't get any better than this.

The office of the Monroe County Office of Vital Records is where you need to go if you need a birth…read moreor death certificate. You enter the building through the double doors and wait in line at the sign until the teller calls you. When I was there, one lady was on lunch and the other lady very efficiently handle the small line that had gathered since I walked in. Unless you're a funeral director, you go to the window, tell her what you need, she hands you the proper forms on a clipboard and a pen. You sit, fill out the form, return it to the window, show your ID, and she prints your paperwork and receipt. Funeral directors must immediately announce themselves, according to the sign. They take cash, check, and credit cards. This office doesn't see a lot of action, even though they share it with the M.E. (Medical Examiner). Hence, only six parking spaces and three handicap spaces. Overflow parking is on the circular (one way) driveway. This building is next to Monroe Community College, across from Southview Commons and Rocfish. The Office of Vital Records is open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. closed Saturday and Sunday.

Came here to mail out some invitations and I couldn't even get into the small ghetto parking lot…read morewith the junk car in the way. It was literally blocking the whole entrance. The lot only has like 12 spots and 9 of them were taken by junk cars. JUNK CARS. I have no idea who's they were but none had plates and only one car had all the tires inflated.cars with no tires. Cars with broken windows. Just a straight up junk yard. It was the wildest thing I've seen. I would like to complain but I don't even know who to complain to. So I feel like this is a start and I don't really care that much being that I don't frequent the post office. I'm not 100 years old as much as my wife tells me everyday. The guy behind the counter is friendly enough. I wouldn't want to work at this post office. This is the closest post office so I guess I'm stuck coming here or find one on my way home from work I guess.

I love this library…read more It's such a great location-- right next to the canal for a study break, near cafes for good food and caffeine if you're pulling a full day of studying. The study rooms look out at the canal, providing a beautiful view. There's also a "reading garden" which is a cute little courtyard if patrons want to read or study in the sun. The librarians are all very nice and helpful, of course. I also enjoy participating in the summer reading program, since they have a program for any age group.

(And super close to Pittsford Dairy) I actually passed it initially as it looked more like an office building. I parked on the street but I'm 99% sure there is a lot behind the library. It's spacious, with a large hallway when you walk in displaying many used books for sale, as well as a free shelf. The "bookstore" is self serve with a cash box, and most I saw were priced at $1. Staff was friendly and helped me locate a book for my book club. This is an impressive looking library with 2 floors and big, sunny windows. If I had more time, it would have been a great place to spend an afternoon. I believe there is also an outdoor deck, but doubt that gets much traffic in January!

This is my childhood library, so every visit has a fair amount of rose colored nostalgia. But as an…read moreadult, I continued to patronize Brighton and will continue to do so. Sometimes, when I walk in, I still see the old layout from before the 90s era renovation, which tells you how much time I spent here. But I'd still do it in a minute. It was in the children's space where I truly became a reader. I'm happy to report that the children's space is still as magical as it was upwards of 30 years ago. I still like looking around for the newest in so-called juvenile fiction (which can be more daring and brave than "adult" fiction, but that's a rant for another day). At one time, BML had a book with a plate in it celebrating my completion of the summer reading program, and I made a point to check it out to keep its circulation statistics boosted. Alas, that book has since been weeded out, but a picture of a bookplate is forever. Brighton's collection is decent sized, definitely one of the larger ones in the area. When you walk in, new releases are in the room to your right. What I really like is the shelf near the entrance featuring award winners, popular titles, and things you may have missed the first time around. It's a great way to find something new. There are plenty of tables to get work done at, and small study rooms are available. A good library should have a mix of quiet and a low roar, and BML has that in droves. I will continue to utilize Brighton Memorial Library for as long as I am able to. In a world full of ebooks, sometimes you just need a physical copy, and there's nothing like going to your childhood library to grab a book.
