I came on at 10am on a Wednesday morning with 15 boxes of books (25 lbs. each) to be shipped cross country. Needed a post office with a parking lot, and this fit the bill. The staff did a really nice job in a couple of ways. 1. One worker saw me working really hard to lug the boxes into the station by hand, and he brought a cart to the sidewalk to make it easier for me, without my even having to ask. 2. When I got to the front of the line with my 15 boxes, there was only one woman working the counter, and seven people behind me with much smaller jobs. The woman smartly ushered me to the side to be helped by someone else. It didn't cost me much time at all---someone else was out to help me within five minutes--and it saved the people behind me a lot of time. read more

If you look at the distribution of my reviews you'll see a bell curve - most places get 3s or 4s, some 5s and some 1s. I would suggest that this indicates I'm a fair reviewer. Having said that, I give this place 1 star. I agree with William H -- Hit or Miss. I walked in today Oct 29 2015 at about 12:30pm. I recognized the two men working. One had a name tag that read 'Gaskins.' He was slow but friendly and pleasant. I didn't get a chance to see the other guy's name tag. Unfortunately this was the guy who 'helped' me. I had already gotten a mailing envelope from the wall but I needed to address it. They had no pens on the table, so I waited on line and when it was my turn, the other guy - not Gaskins - called me up. I said hello and was friendly and asked for a pen, adding that there were none on the table. He lent me a pen and then told me to step back while he helped the next person. It took me all of 45 seconds to address the envelope and when I got back to him, he was just finishing up with the 'next person,' a woman who he was clearly familiar with as they were talking about Tortola and other islands. I remember he said "I just got back from Cancun recently." Then when he was done with her package, he unplugged his cell phone from a charger behind the counter and....walked away in to the back, leaving me standing there with my package. Gaskins had been helping a tiny older woman for about 10 minutes and when he finished with her -- about 5 minutes after the other guy disappeared-- he gestured for me to come on over, and he took care of me. But that other guy is a total tool, and I can see why the USPS is going under. I'd rather pay a few dollars more and go to that UPS store that's 2 blocks north of there on the other side of the street where the people are efficient and friendly. read more

So rude, these employees are. I had four reps "help" me after getting to the front of the line 3 times to send an international package. Each one told me differently and most of them seemed unfamiliar with the process (I should've gone to FedEx as the service was outsourced to them in the end anyway). I wouldn't have minded the lack of knowledge if they had just been nicer. But they behaved in a manner that I should've known what I was doing. One consistency in that place - all employees were rude. read more

This USPS has incredibly slow and very rude postal attendants. I was yelled at and bullied by three of the staff, when I had carried in my 12lb dog in a sling. There was not a sign on the door, so I didn't realize dogs were not allowed. One of the attendants yelled at me in front of the line of customers, telling me I had to leave, as having my dog was in violation of COVID measures. This simply is not true, while meanwhile there were about 25 people inside the small space, including a few without masks. A good samaritan volunteered to stay with my dog outside so I could finish my purchase. I will NEVER return to this site again. I left shocked at how dismissive, unfriendly, uncaring, and mean the staff were. It's never okay to bully someone. read more

This is the best post office in the neighborhood for passport applications. The woman who processed the application was efficient & courteous. The same cannot be said for the same type of appointment down the hill at the CP post office where the woman was irritable. read more

Probably the worst post office I've ever been to. I consistently wait in line no matter what time of day I go. The staff moves at a lethargic rate with no urgency to help the multiple people in line. I cannot fathom why they do not have more than one clerk working in the middle of a workday. I drive 15 minutes out of my way to go to avoid this station at all costs read more

We used the passport service and were very happy. Many thanks to Mike at the counter...people like to complain about the DMV and Post Office so I'm happy to report a good, pleasant and efficient experience! read more

in october 2021, i wrote a glowing review about georgia , an employee of this us post office center. unfortunately, her colleague, the much older man, sitting at the extreme left, is very unpleasant. he seems impatient and condescending when you ask a question, does not provide you with enough information that he doles out . you almost have to apologize if you don't know about the ropes of his business and how to proceed (certified mail , return receipt for international shipping, papers to fill out..tracking numbers.) he seems to forget that he is earning his living thanks to "ignorant" folks like me. read more

Come stand in line and kick your boxes along like David Beckham on the soccer field. Bend it like the Postmaster General! This branch is clean and tidy, and the staff usually only register a 3 out of 10 on the "why are you bothering me?" meter when your turn has arrived at the desk. They have a parking lot if you can manage the left turn from Wisconsin. Alive. In one piece. With all car parts attached. read more

UGH. THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST POST OFFICE I'VE EVER BEEN TO IN MY LIFE!!! Now that I got the aggression out of the way, I don't think I can even begin to write all the things wrong with this post office. The service is SLOW. That's to be expected right? But on top of that, the workers are RUDE. Being the next one up to the counter, my bf made the terrible mistake of going up to one of the clerks without being called. The lady took her sweet ass time and muttered under her breath that we should not have come up when she didn't call us and now we have to wait. All she needed to say was, hold on for a few minutes while I take care of some things. Is that really too much to ask? Then after she did everything she could possibly do to waste some time, she looks at the package I had and says you can't use the ducktape so peel it off and that I needed to fill out a customs report. She then adds "that's two strikes against you. NEXT IN LINE." WHAT? WHAT DID YOU SAY LADY? TWO STRIKES AGAINST ME? Every time I come to this post office I get pissed off. I really need to avoid it for my sanity. Too bad I live right next to it. Hard to avoid for the convenience but I really wouldn't recommend coming here if you can avoid it. read more

May be the worst post office in the US. They consistently loose almost ever package, customer service is painful just a bad place to do business. The Ghettoness factor is like way, way off the chain! read more

If you really have to go to this postal office, try to avoid being assisted by Ms. Mack. She has quite a lot of attitude and to say the least, she has no clue what she is doing. One time I went to this location at its closing time, Ms. Mack ordered me to leave my package at the front door and kicked my package in. Are you kidding me? It was beyond my disgust. I also noticed that she is the most inefficient staff working there- when her coworkers already finished with 3-4 customers, she usually hadn't done with even one. Well, I guess federal employees don't care about efficiency anyway. Ask Kim if you really need someone to help your needs. read more

I have been using this Post Office for many years so my rating is based on experience over years. The clerks are so rude, disrespectful and unprofessional its almost funny. Some writer could write a comedy skit based on their experiences at this office. Its just amazing how rude they all are - which I suspect they wear with a badge of pride. They probably have seen these reviews here and have a good laugh. My most memorable moment: A man was at the counter getting nowhere with the surly, sullen clerk and he finally said out loud "why are you always so rude!" Her reaction: without saying a word she turned away and walked into the back and did not return. read more

Only contact this post office if your need is beyond dire. I'm talking life or death dire. Bitter, rude workers, who project the hatred they feel towards their own lives at the general public. Normally, people dealing with the public on a day to day basis should get a little leeway in terms of their behavior, it can be tough, and customers can get entitled and bratty as well. The employees of the Tenleytown post office, however, don't warrant even the smallest sliver of sympathy. This is a case of reaping what you sow, and their low IQ brand of combativeness is the root cause of the animosity directed towards them. Post Office workers (or any government employees, for that matter) are notoriously difficult to terminate. Having said that, I think someone at USPS should take a serious look at the Tenleytown office when the next cuts come around. This is the bottom of the barrel in terms of workers. Lazy, arrogant, slow, and extremely unprofessional. That they continue to be employed is explicit evidence of the incompetence and lack of accountability allowed to fester in government jobs. National Geographic could do a case study on the Tenleytown USPS as a way of learning exactly how not to conduct yourself. Truly surreal. read more

Other yelpers seem to be expressing some pretty legit concerns. This is not a good post office. With the treatment you get here, it is no wonder the post office is slowly going under and jobs are being cut. Look no further than here for reasons why. I called and was put on hold for 40 minutes so just hung up and decided to go in. Staff are rude and do not explain things that the average customer might need to know or are not sure about. I was asking about a lost money order and before I could finish all my questions about the process the guy was talking to his co worker as I asked the questions! Talk about rude! The post office in general is archaic and needs to get with the times. How do you not have a tracking system, for money orders, that is digital? You have to send a claim to South Dakota than wait 60 days? Talk about unneeded red tape and ancient tech. read more

Literally this is the worst Post Office I have EVER been to: this is the 5th month in a row that they have PRETENDED to give me my SAME EXACT EXPRESS package that REQUIRES a signature confirmation. And they are still not found. I have spent over 5 hours this week in the post office just because they can't resolve this. This is some medication that I NEED to take and they don't care. I will include the RIDICULOUS signature that they were trying to give me as evidence that it had been delivered. read more

US Post Office - Post Offices Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

I tried calling this post office location to talk to someone about the status of a package that was marked "undeliverable" (fault due to seller, not the post office). But I had to keep calling several times over the course of an hour, was continually put on hold multiple times and had my call dropped repeatedly before finally being able to speak to someone. It took 11 tries and the longest I was put on hold was for 10 minutes before I'd hang up, wait 5-10 minutes, then try again. After an hour of trying to call, the person I finally spoke with was helpful and was able to answer my question. But the fact that it took an hour to get service is unacceptable. read more

This post office is open 7 days/week and the automated machine is open 24 hours. I like the fact I can mail things all the time and don't have to take time off work to get work done. UPDATE: I actually *was* called when they located my package, and the staff member who helped me when I came by was apologetic (she was note the person who helped me the first time). Still, I stand by the fact that this post office is highly inconvenient and needs to upgrade their technology/refine its management. Worst post office ever. There are only two people at the desk, regardless of the time of year (like now, the holiday crush), and there is no separate line for people who are just picking up. I think they have one kiosk for getting postage. One. So if you come in w just a pick up slip you have to wait behind people mailing packages. This morning I waited for 45 minutes, 25 in line, then another 20 waiting for the associate to try and find my package before handing the task off to her manager who went to look. She couldn't find it. So I was asked to write my information on a photocopy of my pick up slip, and they'd call when they found it. So a)wtf don't you have my package? YOUR system indicates that I can pick up the day after receiving the slip. They're so disorganized b) I lost 45 minutes of my morning and they couldn't even ensure me that I could skip the line the next time. So now I'm getting to work late with nothing to show for it and thanks to their highly inconvenient hours of 8-6 I have to try getting there early tomorrow or leave work early. I have little confidence I will hear from them by phone. This place is just dysfunctional and has no consideration for the time of customers. I can't just pop back over to pick up my package when you call. They need to tighten their act up. Every time I go there it's an issue. And the funny thing is, as soon as the associate handed over the slip to the manager, I knew they wouldn't find it. If I could avoid this post office forever I would but unfortunately it's my neighborhood branch. They all need to lose the attitudes and get customer service training, and possibly a new manager. read more

WORST SERVICE FROM A USPS POST OFFICE EVER. I agree with some of the past reviews that the employees seem to have some sort of an attitude problem. The woman was helping me in between a conversation with a friend on her iPhone. She seemed annoyed beyond belief when I asked for a product that was held behind the counter and she gave me a hard time for beginning to stuff the envelope with before paying for it even though I would have to pay for postage afterwards anyway. She was rude and seemed annoyed I was taking time away from her precious phone when there was a line of customers behind me. She also began to treat me as if I was a criminal for the envelope debacle. As a person who used to work in customer service, I found this to be terrible. If you have to mail something, go to the perfectly good FedEx down the street. read more

Made a yelp account just to share my experience. One of the worst post offices in the country by far. Anytime I call I will get put on hold for 20-30 minutes after they ask me "What's your zipcode?" My university picks up packages normally to distribute to the different dorms. My package arrived to the post office after the normal pick up time for my university. I go to the post office and try to explain the situation, I end up having to wait for 30 minutes. Once I spoke to someone they then told me that my package was on a delivery car, but how is that possible if my university picks up the mail and they informed me that they did not pick it up. I was told to call in tomorrow to have someone check. I call in and I'm on hold for 20 minutes. I explain the situation again and then I was told to call back in 1 hour because it would be a hassle to sort through the area where they sort the packages going to my university. I was told that it would be a hassle for someone to do their job to secure me my package by looking through an already organized (hopefully) area. read more

The employees give more attitude than service. The lines are always long and some things they will just not do. Online mail hold doesn't work at this location. You have to connect with your carrier personally. And if you successfully put a mail hold in place you should expect to be kept waiting more than 30 minutes (after you get to the front of the line and make your request) to get the mail. read more

Never would have thought I'd write a review for a post office; really what are we talking about? "Nice assortment of envelopes and I see they have stamps?" So I went in to pick up a package and was " that person" who doesn't have the pick up slip. I was prepared to be sent away in postal shame, but as I stood in line my hope was renewed. The people at the counter weren't just doing their jobs, they were friendly, and pleasant, and dare I say, seemed interested in their jobs. Back to me. When my turn rolled around, I was not cast off onto Wisconsin Ave; instead, the very nice woman took my information and found not one but TWO packages waiting for me. (Let's not judge and ask who doesn't know about packages waiting... I don't judge you not knowing how to properly address an envelope) I don't often frequent the post office but if and when I must do my mailings in person, y'all can guess where I'll drop my coins for the forever stamps. read more

Female supervisor is extremely rude, and clearly does not care about her customers. The other employee I spoke to was very nice and tried to be helpful. Unfortunately, government employees can be rude and unhelpful because they know you don't have any recourse as a citizen using the postal service. The supervisor had an attitude from the moment she got on the phone, but after asking for my zip code and hearing it was a nicer neighborhood, she turned totally sour (...I rent a tiny apartment...and either way, I'm not sure how using zip code to determine helpfulness is okay). Disappointing to try to have a civil and friendly phone call about a late package, and be met with nothing but contempt and disdain. read more

This is a great little post office. I have been going there the past year and have had nothing but courteous service. Highly recommend.

Ugh! Anyway, I'm writing because most recently so many packages have been missing. One was "delivered' but never was... 5 (yes five other packages in the last month) when I looked online said: "notice left". 1) I'm at home ALL day, no one bothered to knock on my door for a signature 2) No notices were left, ever... 3) I call the post office to see if they have them there and am told they are - only to go there and to see that they can only find 2 out of 3. Another one was apparently re-sent out for delivery, great....another trip to the post office from hell! (By the way, I'm pretty sure the woman I spoke with on the phone was the same person I dealt with today) Ahhhh! I want to rip my hair out... I've lived in this location for so long and I don't understand what the deal is with the staff's attitude. There's a gentleman who works there - the first time, I tried being nice & polite and came up to the counter with a smile - it's as if that was an invitation to get immediately pissed at me and give me the worst customer service ever! He's always there and I always try to avoid him. Today he got a sarcastic "thanks for the service" from a poor elderly gentleman who had been waiting for so long. He is the worst, the lady might warm up to you if you are quiet and do as she says, who knows, depends on the day she's having...Oh yes, and the wait times are absolutely RIDICULOUS! No matter what time you go there, the employees take their time (try to waste it on purpose) as to get you in and out of there as slowly as possible. If they hate us so much, why not try to be quicker? You'll get rid of us faster.... read more

This location has lost both a certified letter as well as an overnight letter (my second attempt at delivery) for delivery in the same zip code. Both had tracking numbers, and without my input, a post office employee improperly changed the status of my second attempt to, "Held at Post Office, At Customer Request" - this was on an overnight letter! Highly recommend not using any 'special service' categories in the area served by the Friendship Heights location. UPS was able to successfully deliver my 3rd attempt, and I will use either UPS or FEDEX for anything beyond a machine-read, routine delivery in the 20016 zip code in the future. read more

My nearest post office is at Calvert St. & Wisconsin Ave., but I was told I had to go to the Friendship Heights location to find out why I wasn't getting my periodical subscriptions. The magazine distributor (The New Yorker) said my copies were coming back as "Undeliverable," which was strange because I'd been getting them before, and nothing had changed. I brought in a mailing label from the last issue I received, and was told they would "look into it" and give me a call. I have not heard from them, nor received any copies of The New Yorker. This is an expensive magazine; I'm paying for it, and not receiving it. Sounds like there's a problem with coding of the labels, but - who knows? They obviously don't! read more

I called to inquire about a passport renewal. When I was passed to the person who handles those matters, I was met with the most horrible customer service I have ever experienced. She was abusive, unhelpful, and unbelievably rude. When I asked to speak to her manager, she said she was the manager. When I asked for her name, she hung up on me. The sad fact is that a FedEx employee would never behave that way. BTW- Tried to file a complain at at the Post Office itself, and they simply would not accept it unless I gave them way too much private information. This is absolutely the worst postal office. I dread coming here to mail packages. Last week, I sent a medium flat rate Priority Mail package to my granddaughter in California. I put down one whole sheet of Legends of Baseball stamps plus beautiful stamps to start my granddaughter on her stamp collecting hobby. My wife dropped off the package and asked the clerk nicely to please handstamp the package. This woman rudely ignored her, grab the package and dismissed my wife. I got a call this evening from my 10 year old granddaughter. The package arrived stamped, but someone took the time to use a pen to deface every stamp. This is hateful action. When I go there, they treat me like dirt when I asked to buy commemorative stamps. They either only want to sell you the Liberty Bell panes or put metered postage on your package. It is a lazy way of doing business. Rude, rude and rude. This is not just in this location. My two grandsons, age 8 and 10 were so heart broken when their package of stamps send as a gift with the envelope beautifully adorned with selection of stamps suitable for children, was likewise defaced with a ballpoint pen. No stamp cancel. This happened twice. So I am alerting the stamp dealer to go talk to the supervisor there. These clerks need some training in customer service. I know, FEDEX and UPS are alternatives. But they do not use commemorative stamps. As a stamp collector of over 50 years, I am trying to build enthusiasm for this hobby with the younger generation, but some postlal clerks are not helpful. read more
