A lot of people reviewing noted that the wait is long, and some suggest this is the worst Post Office ever/in the country. I've always decent experiences here, and the people always seem friendly. But then again, I have super low expectations. Let me ask you this: have you ever been to an efficient, well-run Post Office? Probably not, because they are kept afloat no matter how poorly they do by us, American taxpayers. So we should simply embrace going to the Post Office as an opportunity to practice patience and tolerance in the face of exasperating, tedious, and time-consuming activities. Not one of the best Post Offices but far from being one of the worst. Why would I rate it so high? I will get to that.... I came by to-day for the first time in about 3 years. Part of the reason I have not been by is I thought this place was closed. It is still open. I repeat, it is still open. The plaza in which the Post Office has had a make over so I would gander that it isn't going anywhere any time soon. With the make over there aren't any designated parking area for bikes. I didn't come by on a bike but a snooty woman was told that she couldn't bring her bike inside. She ended up using a sign post directly in front of the building. Seeing this exchange go down was why I decided on a 4 star rating. The nice woman working the register has unimaginable patience. I have only been here and seen her by herself. It can be said that the USPS is skimping on staff but that is other story. All in all, it is not fastest places during a rush time but nice service and no bad attitude in spite of long lines. read more

Sent a certified letter to Columbia Heights area. Customer never received package or any sign the there have been an attempt to deliver, even though tracking said they made an attempt to deliver. People were home that day. Was the carrier too lazy to know on the door or even leave a attempt to deliver sticker? Or did the carrier really actually try to deliver? Kept checking to try to figure out what happened to the valued package. It seemed lost in space. Tracking specified I needed to reroute the package which I did. Nothing happened. No deliveries; no communication; nothing. Still lost in space. After a month, my local post office researched with the tracking number and discovered it have been sitting in the Columbia Heights post office for nearly a month. No communication ever. Not good use of taxpayers money. I could have done better driving and hour and half and delivering it by hand. Would have saved lots of anxiety! Never again will I put myself through this with the postal system in Columbia Heights. Bye Bye. read more

They provided misinformation stating I couldn't send a package to an APO overseas dues to COVID-19 which was refuted after spending an hour waiting for the customer service line and going to a different USPS location that shipped my package. I've been here twice in the last year, and as far as I can tell, they aren't any slower than any other post office. The hours sticker on the office have been partially rubbed off so it's hard to tell what the exact hours are but it seems to be: M-F 0800-1700. I can't remember what the Saturday hours were. Also, they do take credit/debits cards. The one thing that annoyed me the first time I went was I wanted to buy a padded large envelope to send something in but they weren't displayed so I knew I had to ask for one when I got to the window. But I was concerned that once I got the envelope, I would have to go to the back of the line again to pack, address, and seal the envelope. Fortunately, the worker told me to just step aside and then come right back as soon as I was ready to mail. Overall, it's a US post office so it's not a riveting experience but I think all the 1-star reviews are overdone. read more

Lots of bad reviews of this place, but when I went in, I picked up a couple different sized flat-rate boxes to see which would fit the item I was mailing, and as I was deciding on the medium size, an employee called me over, and suggested a bubble mailer envelope that would likely by cheaper for me to mail, and it was! Yes of course the lines are long--and the financial support of the post office is low. Remember this is an organization that is obliged to deliver mail everywhere, even if it does so at a loss. The service I've had here has been great though. In fact, one one occasions one of the people called me about a matter, allowing me to take time-saving remedies. That's over and above. Has to be the worst post office in the city. Always only one person working. You never can tell when is a good time to go because the clerk takes her lunch whenever she feels like it. The sign on the door says closed for lunch from 10:30-11:30 but I went at 2:20pm and she just shut it down for her hour lunch. It's one of the few post offices in the city with a parking lot although it's very tiny. Parking is the only reason it deserves one star. Other than that it's not worth that. read more

This has got to be the worst post office in america! The line is always to the door and there is always one of two slow old ladies working behind the glass. This post office is made like a mental institution with plexiglass partitions ,no drop boxes ,and no way to access po boxes outside of the ridiculously small business hours. They seriously only employ one tired lady per day. So when she is on lunch.... The doors close!!! The parking lot is always full of cars and random people even when the post office (the only establishment in the broken down strip mall looking place) is closed. I live in pleasant hills and although I'm sure there are closer post offices ,my boxes always come here because the post office guy never wants to come up the stairs. So inevitably I'm in here twice a week thanks to my online shopping addiction. This post office is reason enough for me to move! If the post offices want to know why they are losing money, they need to visit this place and see why people no longer use usps for their shipping needs. She takes her sweet time & you can't even ask a question, just stay in line until she gets to you. She may very well be a lovely lady but by the time you get helped, your nerves are already shot! This might be a one off but this is my first time here and the customer service was fantastic. The woman behind the counter was sweet and efficient. She made me feel like I was a regular customer and she got me the best deal on sending my package the cheapest and fastest. Most Post Office experiences are inconvenient, at best. This was actually enjoyable. I rate things based on my expectation vs. actual experience. Low expectations + great experience = five stars! read more

I would not recommend using this post office if you expect the employees to actually be working. I went there recently and apparently their advertised business hours are not entirely accurate since they fail to disclose that the office closes in the middle of the day for lunch (for about at least an hour). I am relatively unfamiliar with government offices closing in the middle of the day for such an occasion, especially when there are more than three employees in the office. Suffice it to say, I am unclear that these customer service practices will revive this failing business. read more

I called the 800 number - 40 minute wait to be told that the system was down so they could not file an investigation. I have a PO Box through this branch. It's by far the most convenient and cost-effective solution in the area to not having your packages stolen off your porch. You just have to fill out one extra form, and UPS, FedEx, and DHL will deliver to you at the post office. And while the weekday hours aren't super-convenient, they are open Saturday 8-12 for PO Box service (including package pickup for PO Box holders). read more

Stars-minus 5 June 4I found a notice that the post office had tried to deliver a package on Jun 4. June 5 I taped the paper on the door glass pane-as I have done for 25 years. It was not taken. June 6 So I put it on the mail slot flap , thinking that the mailman had not seen it on the glass. I heard the mail come so I ran out and asked the mailman why he didn't take the notice. "We don't do that." "You have for 25 years." "yea, but we don't do that." "How do I get my package?" "Go pick it up."" "WHAT!" "Yea, we don't redeliver packages." !WHY?" "The station is too far away." "It's on 14th Street." "No. they moved it up near the Md. Line and we don't get mail from there." "So where does it come from?" He said some other place and zip code, I think. "You go on-line and fill that out and I might get it tomorrow," Mailman said. NOW- I couldn't read the number the mailman had written the package. So I went to the computer. NOW I know why you are losing money. There were several screens. I filled out the first one but that was all that the program would let me fill out. I must have tried 20 times-on 2 different computers. On one screen I was able to leave a number--but because it was written so badly, I wasn't sure if it was the right number. Well, it was not the correct number. I tried to go back and try another number but the computer was having nothing of it. I had had my one chance and it was giving me no more chances BUT there is still the 800 number. That will surely work. So the telephone kept asking for this number. First, it would not let me finish reading the number. It broke in and took only half the number and then said it did not have the package of that number. Of course not, the "lady" only took half the number. Of course, I didn't know if it was the right number ,anyway. At one point, I was going to be connected to a real person, but I was transferred to the high ring and the voice "Please check your number and try again." I went back to dial the number--I was never again able to get close to a real person. Finally, after 8--10 times of trying to read a number that I couldn't really be sure was right. the program said "Say 'I don't have the #.'". " I said "I don't have it. No number." Then the lady couldn't wait to be rid of me. I thought it a bit odd, but they should be able to find the package. We finished up-very quickly, I thought. I was asked to fill out a survey--I gave all the worst ratings possible So today, which is when I asked to have it redelivered, Guess what? NO PACKAGE. And I can't go to the post office to pick it up because the office closes at 5 pm and guess what time it was when the mail was delivered -FIVE O'CLOCK ! This is a package of medicine. If it were something unnecessary I would not be so upset. But it is medicine that I need. NOTHING WORKS-INCLUDING THE MAILMAN. I have never had a mailman who did not speak English very well. In fact, I've never had a postman who was not a native speaker. So, now what do I do. I call the pharmacy and ask them what to do. The last time medicine was delivered to my house, it never arrived--it took about 2 months to get the medicine--and it came too late.
