That branch is not well equipped in packing material to send items. They do have cardboard boxes of several sizes but no cushioning material to protect fragile items. Stamping the word FRAGILE on a box is not enough. Cushioning material should be provided, at a cost for the client, of course. Moreover, the employee who filled my box with DVDs did not show regard for its content and dropped it several time on the counter. A big difference with services such as UPS or FEDEX! read more

Recently, I have had packages held for unacceptable amounts of time. Just yesterday I was able to retrieve it. No notifications or anything have been put into my box. It's already bad enough that you're not open on the weekends, you could at least do your job when you are there. No one has time to keep continously checking for a package that is sitting in the back because the people working there are not doing their job, by putting notifications in our boxes. Lines are often long and postal workers take a long time to look up and gesture to next in line. They do not volunteer information about fastest or least expensive methods of delivery and have to be questioned. Their attitude is surly. read more

Appreciate that we have a post office in our neighborhood. The people who work there have always been helpful and professional. My only reason for giving it 4 stars is that it is gloomy inside. I'll start off with the gripes about this post office. I really really wish it had an automatic postage center. I am part of this book mailing club, and I go to the post office all the time and need the same amount of postage every time. When I used to work on M Street in Dupont, all the post offices around me had APCs. It would really make things more convenient instead of waiting in line for 20 minutes when all I need is a stamp for $2.23! Also, there's always this guy there in the morning getting a money order and every one of this trips takes like 20 minutes. I always have to make sure I go well after 9am because his ass is always at the counter. OK, so one of the ladies isn't all that nice, but I love Towanda. Since, like I said, I go to the post office alot, she's gotten to recognize me so she'll always smile at me and ask how I'm doing. One time, I mailed a big package to my friend who's in the Peace Corps in Africa. I told Towanda all about it, and then about 2 weeks later when I came in to mail a book, she asked me about my Peace Corps friend. I thought it was so great that she remembered. So, get to know your postmasters! They're much nicer when you do. And be nice to them too! read more

Another business that I truly wish didn't have to be given a star at all... In light of the fact that I really have having to give business of any kind bad reviews, but will do when when they are earned (as this one is), I'll keep it short and to the point: 1. To say that the staff is rude would be quite possibly the largest understatement in the history of the world. If you enter with the knowledge that they will be doing you a large and personal favor by waiting on you, you may escape, many dollars lighter, without wanting to personally take out a hit on the person who assisted you. 2. DO NOT get a PO Box here. For several reasons...(see #1 above) and the biggest reason: You can only access your mailbox between the following hours: Monday - Friday 9 am - 5 pm Seriously? Those hours make bankers look like workaholics. NO ONE is available during those hours. Inconvenient only begins to cover that issue. Survival tips to keep in mind: - Avoid eye contact. Keep your head down and appear subservient. - Do not question. No matter what, the postal clerk is always right. - Only enter this location is you have no other alternative. Personally, I recommend the Post Office further up on Wisconsin at Friendship Heights if you need at PO specifically. Otherwise, just up the street on the same side is a FedEx where they will be more than happy, and courteous, when they address your shipping needs. read more

There is only one employee at the front desk and he is taking 7 minutes per customer! With eleven people ahead of me in the line, it will take almost an hour and a half at this post office to ship my extra large box that doesn't fit in the self service bin. This is the only post office in DC that opens after 1:00 pm on Saturday. Adding a couple of more employees and retraining this one extremely slow employee should be a simple thing to do. As proud Americans and honest tax payers, we should demand the Federal Government to do better. read more

Boo. Mean, spiteful staff. I walked in with a kitten in my coat-- a poor, defenseless kitten that we had rescued weeks earlier. I stand in line for 20 minutes to send my Christmas packages. I finally get up to the desk: staff lady sees cat head sticking out of my coat and tells me she now cannot help me. ("Next!") Really? OK, I say-- now I know, I'm reeelly reeely sorry, please help me and I'll never do it again. She refuses, saying its against regulations and that she could get fired. Again, really?-- someone's going to fire you just before Christmas because you helped a man with a kitten in his coat? I ask if there is a sign I missed. (No.) There is a sign saying no weapons, no explosives, no flammables, and no threatening postal employees. Nothing about cats, or any other animal. So OK. I walk out, with all my stupid packages, and with my cat. I walk all the way home. I put said cat down. I walk all the way back. I wait in line again. I give the Post Office their spiteful money. Then I check on FedEx Ground rates and resolve never to give them another penny if I can help it. read more

I am very disappointed by the subpar service I am have been receiving. The last incident occurred today when we received a notice that a package needs to be rescheduled. I interacted with the service worker and never received the notice. This item did not require a signature. This incident with the package is a repeated one. It has occurred multiple times. The official help number is not helpful at all. Furthermore, your service workers repeatedly walk across my lawn even though I have asked them not to. And I see them walking across neighbors lawns. read more

I am SO disappointed by the carriers who service the Glover Park area. Many times I have received "delivered" notifications when the package has actually not been delivered-the carrier simply holds onto it for another day or so. I have been standing on my porch when a mail woman threw my package onto my porch from a neighbor's yard-she clearly didn't know I was standing there, luckily my item was not damaged. Time and time again I have received notifications that my package delivery was "attempted" but couldn't be completed because no one was home, even though myself or one of my roommates have been at home-no one rings the doorbell or even knocks on the door. It's clear that the carriers simply deliver packages on their whim and do not even attempt to deliver some before they end their route for the day. We constantly get the wrong mail delivered to our house. It is getting ridiculous. Today was the straw that broke the camel's back when I got notifications that 2 of my packages couldn't be delivered because "no one was home", even though my roommate was sitting on the couch and our door was wide open during normal delivery hours. I'm appalled by this post office's service. read more

Oh man. This is totally the fault of me being new to Washington, DC but I had an errand to run at the Georgetown Mall and figured this post office couldn't be that far away. I mean, it was on Wisconsin too, right? WRONG!!! SOOO FAR!!!! It was at least a mile away and of course the day I went was the hottest day of the summer. This place gets a 1 star for lying to me a little over a year ago about my wedding invitations - they told me I couldn't get them hand-stamped, that it basically isn't done anymore. If I'd only gone to the one closer to M Street (according to some helpful peeps at Paper Source) I would have gotten some help. This place gets some stars since they are usually cordial and decent and one woman there actually started to remember me after I'd been in there a few times to mail books to my BookMooch peeps. I have mixed feelings about this Post Office - the staff in the office itself have always been cheerful and efficient which is shocking considering most post offices are staffed by angry and overwhelmed people. HOWEVER, we have had substantial problems with our actual mail delivery. We've received notices that mail was delivered only to not have it show up until days later. We've had "delivery attempted" notices when no such delivery attempts were made. We've had several packages go to the WRONG ADDRESS and only happened to make the discovery when, on a whim, we walked to the same building number on the street behind us - we live on Place but our packages were left at Street - Isn't it the bare minimum to read the address correctly??? And most recently, they just didn't deliver a package. It was apparently just left at the post office for pick-up. However, we didn't get a notification to pick it up. I only found out because I contacted the sender a couple days later wondering where it was. It's pretty absurd that mail is just NOT delivered. So in conclusion - in-house service is great. Carriers are absolutely unreliable, inconsistent and seemingly incompetent. read more

This branch is often understaffed and I frequently find a 10 minute + line. Recently received a client check in the mail that had been mutilated so bad by a postal machine and 1" shy of being ripped in half + covered in black machine marks. The bank laughed and said there was no way the check could be deposited. I went to the Glover Park Post Office to return it to the sender and asked that they pay for the new envelope and mailing costs. They said, "No, it is against policy." They did offer me information on where could be reimbursed. Sure - let me just waiste more of my time for your poor handling!! USPS - FAIL!!! Bad policy. Really bad customer service!! read more

Having read the previous reviews, I lowered my expectations and headed to the post office to mail some packages. Needless to say, my experience wasn't all that bad--the clerk was businesslike but cordial, and did nothing to make me turn up my nose. Overall, it was the same as any generic post office. read more

Why is it most people are now using FedEx or UPS? I will tell you why. My son sent multiple documents that needed to be in Washington the next day, and paid $25.50 for next day delivery by 12 noon. The documents were to be delivered to the Chinese visa office which is across the street about a block from the office. He called the visa office at 12:30 p.m. and they told them they had not received the documents as of this time. So he called the number on his receipt to track the package and the robot said that an attempted delivery was made at 11:00 a.m. even though, the visa office stated that there was no attempt to deliver the package at that time. When my son called the local post office where the documents were sent from they told him that they say attempted delivery so that they do not have to refund the money paid for next day delivery. The post office makes up these lies and will not follow through on what they state about refunding money if the package does not make it at the time specified. The postal worker told my son that she could not refund his money because of the attempted delivery time documented. No wonder we are having such a problem with our USPS! Even the visa office cautioned about sending through the postal service and gave the better option to use FedEx or UPS. Also if you try to talk to someone at the number provided all you end up with is listening to robots. Shame on you "United States Postal Service." read more

I needed to send a box to REI and asked for a price to ship it. I was quoted $26. I said I wanted to check with FedEx up the street. The clerk said it would be higher there and said I'd be back. I checked with FedEx and the price was $18 and that included really excellent customer service without attitude. I so dread going into this post office. read more

This used to be my go-to post office when I lived in the area. These ladies were generally efficient and fairly courteous.
