While clerks at other POs will adhere the certified mail sticker to your package, the clerk here won't take it unless you've affixed it to your letter in exactly the right place. Given that I send certified mail about once every 5 years, it's not like I know where the perfect spot is. The instructions on the wall she points to are inadequate, especially if your eyesight isn't perfect.

I am part of this book mailing club, and I go to the post office all the time and need the same amount of postage every time. When I used to work on M Street in Dupont, all the post offices around me had APCs. It would really make things more convenient instead of waiting in line for 20 minutes when all I need is a stamp for $2.23! Also, there's always this guy there in the morning getting a money order and every one of this trips takes like 20 minutes. I always have to make sure I go well after 9am because his ass is always at the counter. OK, so one of the ladies isn't all that nice, but I love Towanda. Since, like I said, I go to the post office alot, she's gotten to recognize me so she'll always smile at me and ask how I'm doing. One time, I mailed a big package to my friend who's in the Peace Corps in Africa. I told Towanda all about it, and then about 2 weeks later when I came in to mail a book, she asked me about my Peace Corps friend. I thought it was so great that she remembered. So, get to know your postmasters! They're much nicer when you do. And be nice to them too!

I've continued the tradition long after social isolation: the shipments include, for example, magazines I've read; nut free snacks; and items I have bought new for this purpose. Post offices are highly variable in usage rate. I'll bet the USPS tracks this. They must. Staff also are not the same in efficiency. The reason I like this specific option is proximity to where I stay when I check in my elderly father and its relative lack of business. It is noticeable underused. The first factor ensures I would patronize the place even if it weren't great. The second factor could be adversely affected by my own actions. You have to worry that posting a positive review will encourage others in a manner that degrades exactly what you were praising. That is the risk of trying to perform a public service.

I've always decent experiences here, and the people always seem friendly. But then again, I have super low expectations. Let me ask you this: have you ever been to an efficient, well-run Post Office? Probably not, because they are kept afloat no matter how poorly they do by us, American taxpayers. So we should simply embrace going to the Post Office as an opportunity to practice patience and tolerance in the face of exasperating, tedious, and time-consuming activities. Don't view this as a place to send packages from--that's ridiculous. Use it as a place to practice being zen. Five stars for helping me remember to slow down in life and the meaning of mindfulness. Oh, and for being the closest Post Office to my house. P.S. To appreciate the hilarity of the situation, check out the DMV scene from Zootopia.

It was clear that the employee and the customer were having a good time talking, and then another, more senior employee with headphones on would come and yell at the employee helping the customer from time to time. He would say really rude things and talk down to him and it was super uncomfortable to witness. Once the employee was finally able to help me, he started FaceTiming his girlfriend or someone he knew on his phone. I'm guessing it was his gf because he was saying really inappropriate things, while I was in complete shock. I was literally standing in front of him asking him questions and taping up my package and felt like I was interrupting his convo... I had to wait until whatever he was finished saying so I could pay and wrap up the transaction. I know this is the USPS, but even from the most basic customer service perspective, come on!!! How do you not feel ashamed to have an extremely private conversation on speaker phone in front of a customer? USPS also provides surveys on their receipts for transactions, so I will definitely report this.
