I love this location, but it has the potential to be better for efficiency. It's consistently busy, has multiple windows, but the line is always long. I wish there was a self-serve kiosk to send or drop off packages. Sometimes you have to plead with the staff even if you just want to drop off a package. The poor service from the Union City/ Weehawken US Postal service has gone on for years now. No accountability whatsoever. They are rude and incompetent. Whenever possible, I ask the shipper to use ANYONE but USPS, since it's a crap shoot if you'll ever get your package. I just got a notice that a delivery was attempted but for some strange reason, I was at home and yet, the bell never rang and there was no notice even left on the door. The employees at this USPS location are abysmal and embarrassingly lazy even by USPS standards. The mail carrier seems to have a lot of trouble finding a 3-square-feet flat surface by my door to leave packages, next to the UPS and Fedex packages, and suspiciously does not leave a notice slip. On multiple occasions, I go to the location to pick up the package, for which I have the online tracking printout, and the employees at the window tell me to go to a different USPS office (in Weehawken). I repeatedly ask the apparently illiterate and immobile employees to just check the back, which they finally grudgingly do, and they (lo and behold) discover the package that the USPS online system says is present at the location. (The first time, I did visit the Weehawken location, and they of course did not have it. I had to return to this Union City location, so that picking up a simple package ultimately took three separate physical visits to USPS.) The Union City Post Office officer-in-charge is named Paul Camporeale, who of course does not live in Union City and therefore does not need to experience the location's mail services (or lack thereof). His mailing address is also suspiciously hard to find on the Internet in case you wish to provide a letter of complaint, though who am I kidding, it's not like it will ever get delivered to him. read more

Ah, the Union City Post Office. Let me just say - if just one reason could be pinpointed for the decline and bankruptcy of the United States Postal Service, it would be the Union City Post Office. For instance, I ordered a package through Amazon via FedEx Smartpost. Little did I know, it's a combination between FedEx and the USPS. Since Union City is the main branch of Post Offices for the UC and Weehawken area, everything goes through this facility. As indicated by my tracking device, my package was suppose to arrive at my house by February 18th. The package arrived at the UC Post Office on the 18th, and sat there for two whole days. Eventually, the status of my order indicated that a delivery attempt was made at 10:17pm. Yep, PM. AT NIGHT. Not only is this complete and utter BS because the doorbell never rang, I know for a fact that business hours do not allow for the mailmen to deliver packages after a certain hour. After calling FedEx and confirming it with the tracking device, I was told I needed to go to the UC Post Office to pick up my package. The problem was there was NO proof of this other than the tracking device. There was no pink slip for an attempted delivery because NO DELIVERY WAS MADE. Upon arriving at the Post Office, I waited in line for an hour because there was, quite literally, 30 people in front of me. I began talking to my fellow package seekers and we all notice we have the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. The UC Post Office claimed there was a delivery attempt made at some BS time in the middle of the night, and they have no pink slip. As we all approach the window, the Sales Representative tells us she can do nothing for us. We don't know what we're talking about. We're wrong. Our packages are not ready to be picked up. Go home. Despite the fact that there are 10 people with the same problem, she claims we're wrong and nothing can be done for us. "You have to wait 5 to 7 business days for your delivery to be complete." Says another customer, "My package was suppose to be delivered on February 12th and I haven't receive it or a pink slip." See what I mean? Incompetent. After giving each one of us attitude, the Sales Representative begins complaining TO THE CUSTOMERS that she doesn't want to be there. She hates working at the Post Office, she hates working on Saturdays, she hates working with customers, and she doesn't want to be there. Newsflash, darling - WE DON'T WANT YOU THERE EITHER. After nearly starting a riot, the sales representative finally calls the supervisor over. I couldn't quite hear their conversation through the window, but it seemed the supervisor was also amazed at her worker's incompetence. She began yelling at the floor reps to do their damn job and go find our packages. (Thanks for doing your job, Carmen!) The issue is here - if the UC Post Office just delivered (ACTUALLY DELIVERED and not LIED ABOUT DELIVERING) there would be a lot less of an issue. Long lines, nasty attitudes, and a general lack of work ethic make this place hell on Earth. Be very, very thankful if you never have to cross paths with this place. read more

Packages never get delivered and always go missing. I do not understand how this keeps happening. Do they even try to deliver? I know the packages are not stolen from my front door apartment because I receive deliveries to my door from every other courier (Amazon, FedEx etc). This is daylight robbery and given that this is a goverment agency I do not understand why the mayor or governor is not investigating this. I have a package sent from an ebay seller. The seller sent it via UPS then for the last mile UPS delivered to USPS for local delivery. I went to the Union City NJ post office and they insist it was delivered to my doorstep. They even printed out the tracking report saying it was delivered at my address but I swear there was no package from USPS because I received other packages from ebay on the same day from FedEx. I called up multiple times to tell them and went in person to say that it wasn't delivered and the person on the phone basically told me to fuck off. Let us list all the ways you will not be able to contact them: - Hang up immediately upon you saying "May I schedule a redeliver" - Hang up immediately upon you saying "May I check the status of a package" - Hang up immediately upon you saying "May I come in to pick up a package" - Put you on indefinite hold upon saying all the above. - Pull the phone off the line so that you can a 1980's busy tone. - If you go into the post office, they will tell you you cannot reschedule a package delivery via the online service because they don't use it. So they recommend you call at 6 am because they will be in the office. Ok cool so you call at 6am and they yell at you: "WE ARE NOT OPEN, WE CAN'T HELP YOU CALL WHEN WE ARE OPEN, CLICK" See the loop yet? This is not to mention the fact that if you are HOME and they don't feel like walking up to your floor for a signature, when you BUZZ THEM INTO THE DOOR, they will leave you a "missed" notice if they leave one at all, to avoid walking up to the door. My buzzer is weird so I can only hear it being buzzed and open the door, I cannot hear who is talking or talk back. So this happens quite often with their "service". I have filed multiple complaints via the USPS 800 # and case files. But obviously nothing helps. They are understaffed, not equipped for the 20th century, and have some of the nastiest, meanest staff I have ever encountered. We are talking about putting you on hold for 30 minutes until they CLOSE so they can ignore you call nasty. Please please please do something about this antiquated post office that gives a bad name to the entire postal service! P.S. I can't even tell you how many problems I have had with this USPS location because I've lost count. Lost packages, held packages, mail bins being misplaced for 2+ weeks WITH your mail in them! The staff is so rude and useless. The last supervisor, I think her name was Ren, was unreliable and was caught in lie after lie about mail delivery. There's a new supervisor now and he was nice and said he would look into the matter and return my call but he never did. Our mail carrier sits on the phone in our lobby while the mail is unsupervised over by the front door. THEY JUST DON'T CARE. The worst is when we order something online and it's transferred from UPS/FedEx to USPS. The packages are always right on track until transferred to our local Union City Post Office! Then you just cross your fingers that you'll see your mail. I am currently on the phone on hold with them while they try and find my missing package. The tracking info said they tried to deliver but there was a "delivery exception" and they left a notice. I was home when this supposed delivery attempt occurred (three days ago with no re-attempt) and there wasn't a notice left. Going on 16 minutes on hold waiting for an answer... Shut this place down. ***UPDATE When someone finally picked up the phone from placing me on hold, I was told they cannot locate my package, they will look into it and Ren will call me back. This is the woman who admits "I don't know what's going on" and "Yes, I said I would do that but I forgot to." These were her responses when I followed up on previous missing mail. I know I won't hear back from her today and will have to deal with this again tomorrow. I think the only thing we can do to somewhat avoid the USPS is notify the merchants of what's happening to the shipment once the package is transferred to the local USPS. The convenience of online shopping goes out the window when you have to spend time tracking down your possibly lost package because the USPS is unreliable. This is possibly the very worst Post Office in existence. Packages fall into a black hole almost every time. They NEVER deliver packages on time. They can not find them when you call to locate them. I called to speak to someone about a problem with the delivery service. The post master answered the call and after telling her the problem she put me on hold and that was fine. She had me on hold for 10 minutes and in that time my coworker was able to get through and fix the issues with another employee.
