Extremely slow and impolite staff. Don't come here unless you've taken some headache pills !

The poor service from the Union City/ Weehawken US Postal service has gone on for years now. No accountability whatsoever. They are rude and incompetent. Whenever possible, I ask the shipper to use ANYONE but USPS, since it's a crap shoot if you'll ever get your package. I just got a notice that a delivery was attempted but for some strange reason, I was at home and yet, the bell never rang and there was no notice even left on the door. This is the norm for these idiots. Then when you go to pick your package up at the Union city location, they tell you it's at the Weehawken location, so you drive over there and they tell you they don't do packages there, and very snotty about it too. I wish there was some way to hold them accountable. They can't be fired and they know it, and it shows.

Mail delivered to the wrong address...again

They seem to deliver mail to the wrong address every other week and someone got my three Amazon Echos I ordered, oh well. To the Carriers put some effort into your job and management take your head out of your ass

The line just to pick up packages.

This might be one of the worst post offices I ever experienced…read more There seems to be two kinds of customers. Those that don't come with convoluted, time consuming problems, and those that do. And of course I get stuck behind the one that does. Literally one before, of course he's in front, because that's how it goes. In his defense, this customer may have had a valid reason. He had about 15-20 parcels that needed to be weighed and stamped. So my issue is, there were two possible windows, and the one guy working was going slow as a turtle. So 2-4 minutes a package times all packages... meant about 30-40 minutes for this one guy. All while you know staff is in the back. Makes you wonder what's up. If there's at least one extra worker, hiding doing nothing, while a line is clogging up, then customers have every right to be furious about this. It's bad management because they have to know situations like this happen, yet they do nothing to adapt to it. As for the guy working the window, I couldn't believe it. As the line was pushing out the door, he had his phone at the counter, and he was having phone chit chat while dealing with customers. My advice: if you just need postage, consider buying stamps, and even if you overestimate by 1-2 stamps it might be worth it if it saves you the hassle. If you don't want to do that, only consider this place if it's closest, and you can visibly guage how long the other customers will take. Anything longer than 15 minutes, consider going to the Palisade one instead, I never had issues there.

And I've been going there since 2016-2023. Why did they put this miserable fuck there? When you say hi to him he looks me like I got heads. He clearly doesn't like gay people's But certain people he was nice to aka regulars. First time was returning a package he gave me an issue about not being able to scan when it was completely scannable. Second time I have to go there. I received email stating I needed to go there to get my address updated confirmed: I went there with the list of other documents to bring and he literally was like no this isn't. Valid or this one or that one. But sir I brought exactly the documents requested before coming. Then he wants to get slick and start saying oh you want to put a show on? Like what my dude? I came in nicely said hiii too your rude ass twice and then you what do you want? Too me. Then my attitude switched I was like give me my paper work back and he paused with giving me my paper work back saying I can go else where and he doesn't have to update my address. Clearly he wasn't trying too. I also see on YELP many complaints about him! Why is he still there then?! The lady before him for years was amazing! Bring her back!

Procrastination usually doesn't win out, but thank goodness for a USPS office open until 7pm on…read moreSundays, even during the holiday season! In fact, the only station in the city open on Sundays and a lifesaver for those who started writing holiday cards on the Friday before Christmas. Peering into the "envelopes" mail slot, thousands of pieces of mail were visibly overflowing the sacks, requiring some gingerly wedging of my small booklet-worth of correspondence in between others. Fingers crossed all made it out ok! Shoutout to one of two staff working the two open counters at 5pm on Sunday December 21, you were friendly, prompt and helpful and put your best foot forward for terrific customer service. Only 2 counters were open and the line was about a dozen people long, steadily moving. For service--a solid 5 stars. Facilities are as expected a bit on the older side, being built in 1912 as part of the original Penn Station complex, though the modern conveniences of tap-to-pay technology and self-service weigh/postage stations are available. Waiting in line, the details on the ceiling caught my attention. Maybe because the darker evening outside accentuated the brighter interior, the simultaneously ornamental, scrolling flourishes fitted in repeating geometric patterns stood out in ways I hadn't noticed before. Come to find after some googling the ceiling is decorated with the country seals of 11 countries including the US, the countries part of the universal postal union at the time of construction, an administrative body now under the purview of the United Nations that handles international shipping policies. Not very fun facts: designated a national historic landmark in 1973 and re-named after James Farley, 53rd U.S. Postmaster General in 1982. Previously generically named the General Post Office. Slightly more fun fact: atop the facade along 8th Avenue the inscription reads, "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." Some may confuse this to be the creed of the U.S. Postal Service, but it's actually not. Rather, it's tied to the tribute that building architect William Mitchell Kendall paid to major historical figures credited with postal advancements. This is an excerpt out of Herodotus's 'Histories', which described the messenger system established in Persia by Cyrus the Great.

As someone who has regularly used this post office for years given its easy availability, including with a P.O. Box there, it amazes me what has developed, especially since the building now also includes Penn Station's Moynihan Hall. Yes, they do have window service every day, but 98% of the time they're slow as molasses long lines because less than optimal staffing levels. Hey, USPS, this is the city that never sleeps, yet P.O. Boxes and self-serve Automatic Centers are now closed off to the public at night!!! Why? (Note - This is despite the faster than inflation, year-after-year increase in this location's P.O. Box rental rates.) Why is the only ADA access, as far as I could find it, on the almost the. complete opposite side of the building towards 9th Avenue inside Moynihan Hall?
