She has zero critical thinking skills and I surmise she has some kind of hold over this place as there have been so many complaints over the years about her, it's hard to imagine the reasons for not firing her. I have been going to this place 10+ years. Today out of nowhere she refused to hand me my mail, after she had yelled at me a few times about having my (10lb) dog inside the post office. I explained I had been coming there years and years, and there are ZERO signs posted outside on any of the doors, NOR inside the post office about no dogs being allowed, so I was simply not aware of this at all. Not only that, I bring my dog in there at least 3x per week and have chatted up different employees while holding him, and no one has ever said ANYTHING about this rule. Ever. I then picked up my tiny dog and stood patiently in line, explaining to her that I would be sure not bring him back; but, since there was no indication of this rule before today, I would just hold him in my arms until she could retrieve my package. She refused to serve me -- and she went out of her way to take great pleasure in it. Totally nasty personality. This is where the lack of professionalism and zero customer service comes in. All she had to do was point it out politely that I might not be aware of the rule and ask me to not bring him again and hand me my mail. I would have apologized and been more than happy to oblige. Instead, she chose to berate me in front of the entire Post Office, which was completely unnecessary. Considering especially that she is dead wrong on having signs anywhere about it. There aren't. Period. I will be filing a formal complaint against this wretched city employee, who is often cruel and demeaning to locals and spends most of her days yelling at people. That said, I have heard many times before that the manager there is not going to care or do anything about it, which is sad, especially since we have to pay for this service. The city of Ketchum does not deliver mail to our residences so we are all forced to deal with this horrible person every time we have to pick up mail. She is the worst type of small-minded gatekeeper, who prides herself on being nasty whenever possible. AVOID THIS PLACE if you can. Just shameful. She ruins what is so great about our community of Ketchum. On the way out, I checked again on all of the exterior and interior doors and walls -- there are absolutely no signs about animals, nor have I ever seen any. So she could have given me the benefit of the doubt (that I simply didn't know) instead of being so wretched. Today is Nov 3 2023.

Can never get someone to answer the phone, or if they do, they leave you unattended forever. Packages are lost for months, and some letters never make it! Complaints are never addressed; they just give an email response saying "handled" or "corrected", but it isn't.

After noting that Bellevue was closed, I drove to Hailey to get my mail stamped, only to find it was also closed. I do not recall 12/31/24 as a Federal Holiday. As a business owner, I needed some things postmarked 12/31/24 and figured since 12/31 is NOT a Federal Holiday they would be open to serve the public. So does the mail I put in the box get postmarked the 31st or is it just too bad? I would like an answer regarding this.

Also, being a smaller community, you may run into neighbors catching up on the latest news or gossip in town. Recently, a postal processing facility in Pocatello, Idaho was shuttered, so all mail is sorting through Salt Lake City. I recommend selecting a trackable package for any sensitive materials and allowing for a little extra delivery time.

She knows Post business like no other Postmaster. She learned the trade from Gloria C. who retired in September 2006. The whole community of Clayton rallied 'round Michelle and wrote letters and circulated petitions, etc. in order to get Michelle appointed as Postmaster. For once, the right thing actually happened and Michelle got the position. This is a truly lovely little Post Office and, if you're driving along the Salmon River, please stop in and say HI! Stamp collectors often frequent the Clayton Post Office because it has such a great selection of hard to find issues. The Post Office was founded October 19, 1880, back in the days when Clayton had a little smelter sitting alongside the Salmon River.
