It's an eerie feeling-there is no music playing overhead, the ambience is cold and stale and nobody really interacts with one another beyond necessary for transaction. However, the US Post Office isn't in the placemaking business, and that's ok. Their job is to get our mail from one place to another. I was able to get my business taken care of and even received a call back from the postmaster himself with an answer to my question. I appreciate that! Now, if someone could get some Musak playing overhead, the wait in line might be more tolerable.

They don't pick up the drop-off box until 5:30PM so that's always been convenient for me. Whenever I enter the shop, someone always says hi and welcome. I did have to ship out a Gucci shirt using FedEx and I didn't have a box to ship it out in, they were accommodating and found a box for me. I was worried leaving that shirt there just out in the open on the desk behind the register, but they gained some trust giving me my receipt with a tracking number and ensuring delivery within 1-2 business days. The staff at this location is very helpful and nice. If you need a local FedEx print and ship place to go to, this is your place.

It's odd for many reasons…read more Mostly it's odd because I use this post office quite frequently, and over the years I've probably used just about every service that they have, from buying stamps, to sending important documents with signatures and tracking and all kinds of bells and whistles. But it's also a little odd, because I seem to be a dying breed. In a world where you can print postage at home, or have packages picked up, or 99.9% of the time just send it all digitally, I feel like some kind of anachronism. I like the feel of real stamps, on real paper, with real envelopes. In a digital world, I'm okay with being an analog communicator sometimes. Have a special laugh at me when it comes to postcards, especially. What prompted me to revisit my thoughts on the post office today, is that earlier this afternoon I read where someone was asking a question that struck my heart -- they were asking about postcards. "Does anyone still send them?" they questioned. I had to chuckle, because not even four hours before reading that, I had actually purchased a postcard (and not just a postcard, but a vintage postcard from the early 1900s) to send to a friend. You see, I have a collection of vintage postcards from places I love, and modern postcards from all the national parks and national monuments I visit. I love the fibers of the paper, I love the old pictures, and I love the nostalgia of postcards that are so closely tied to a time and a place. At antique stores I read old, already-sent postcards and imagine the look of delight on the receiver's face, and make up stories in my mind about how they knew the sender. The modern postcards I have are slowly aging, and will one day yellow and remind me of my travels as a younger man. To answer that question, yes. Yes, people still send postcards. I do. And I always will, as long as there's a postal system to deliver them. From simple gas station glossies to old linen lithographs, I will keep sending them. Will you join me? Are you the kind of person who still sends postcards? If you are you're my kind of person. Let's send postcards. Let's send them to each other. Even if we go to the same place, let's go home and send postcards to each other to remember the trips. This location has been my stamp central for a long time. Shout out to Jackie who NEVER AGES and is lightning fast at the register--that dude is an institution. He wasn't in last time I was there, which is a first. They were training someone new, so hopefully he was just taking time off. Boxes, tracking, signature, PO Boxes; they have almost everything here but a stamp vending machine. Tucked away in the wilds of northwestern Idaho, in an old mining town, the Murray, Idaho Post Office screams out nostalgia and the Wild, Wild West. In 1883 the town of Murray, Idaho didn't even exist, but the discovery of gold in the area led to a gold rush. Soon the town burgeoned full of 2,000 adventurous souls who came to stake a claim and get rich. Like many small towns of the era, the discovery of gold gave birth to Murray, and like many of those same small towns the absence of gold led to its virtual demise. By 1898 all that remained of the once booming town was a bunch of empty buildings and a handful of hopeful holdouts. Today, Murray is a stop of for tourists mostly passing through to Montana. But there are tours from Couer' d' Alene that take vans full of curious folks out to see a real live ghost town with fewer than 30 people living within its boundaries! That's Murray. Many original buildings are still standing, and this tiny post office proudly serves the handful of families that still need it. Though it is small, it is mighty and durably constructed to withstand the cold Idaho winters. If you find yourself visiting Boise or Couer' d' Alene, look for tours heading up to Murray. The town of Murray will surprise you with its ghost town look and feel, but the history of the place will captivate you. Murray is north of Wallace in Idaho's Silver Valley. Take exit 43 from Interstate 90 and follow the Couer' d' Alene River about 30 miles.

!5th April 2021...3:15pm…read more Today took a package I received to this Post Office to be returned to the Sender. The package contained my medication which I only discovered to be the wrong medication after I opened it. I called the Sender who said to return the package which I did or at least attempted to do at this Post Office. A lone male employee who was serving with two fellow female employees at the front desk served me. He took a look at the package box and said I had to pay for the return shipment because I had opened the box. I told him I only discovered the medication to be the wrong one only after I opened it and that I had spoken to the Sender, who had also furnished the return label. This male employee whose tone of voice is so authorotative and sound so demeaning, insisted I still had to pay for the shipment. MY POINT IS THAT - I HAD TO OPEN THE BOX TO CHECK THE MEDICATION WHICH I ONLY DISCOVERED TO BE THE WRONG MEDICATION - WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE RETURN SHPMENT? To make this review short, I took the package to another Post Office and the readily accepted it without any fuss. I just think this male employee was RACIST judging from how he handled my service. Nobody deserves this kind of treatment. It seems as though the USPS right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. Absolutely no consistency in your service. The lobby is open weekends to mail letters but if you need a tracking number or to purchase something it's work week only. The parking out front is limited but if it's full you can turn right onto centennial parkway at the light and there's a whole street of parking there and then it's just a short walk back to the post office. Reasonable prices comparable to other delivery services.

I came in needing to ship a package and was told they wouldn't print a shipping label for me. The employee directed me somewhere else to get it printed, so I ended up driving around the valley only to find out that the place she sent me to couldn't help me either. After finally getting the label printed and driving all the way back, I was then told that I needed to have the package completely taped and sealed before they would accept it. I asked if I could simply use some tape to close the package, and was told I had to purchase an entire roll. They are all fat and lazy so I guess I shouldn't expect much.
