Things have improved a lot since Jim retired. Abner has been very helpful, now I'm actually getting my packages.

First off, amazingly nice staff. Though I have never gone into the place without waiting in a line,…read moreI'm always greeted with a smile. Except for the older gentleman who looks like Santa and works passports... he can be quite ornery. Their scheduling system is still on paper, in a style similar to the Pony Express. Entering the Aspen post office is not the worst experience... getting a package is. Not even the magical powers of Amazon Prime can save you from an unreasonably long wait on those new fleece lined underwear. Oh no. Expect over a week for a 2 day prime delivery, simply because there is a room of misfit packages somewhere in the bowels of that Puppy Smith Dungeon. Here, packages lay until their owners call asking or someone finds the time to sort through them. Delivering packages is not a strong suit of this particular post office. When your parcel does emerge from their talons, postmen take the "close enough" approach when it comes to actually delivering your package, occasionally leaving letters and boxes strewn about the road. Overall, this establishment is lacking. It should have admittedly gotten one star. However Aspen is a wonderful town with so many wonderful things to experience, we begrudgingly deal with the current state of the Puppy Smith Post Office.

Like many others I would not give this post office any stars at all. They are chronically…read moreunderstaffed, customer service appalling and everything is chaotic. I went to pick up mail from my box last week only to find it locked. Come to find out they are pulling down that particular bank of PO Boxes to make room for something else. They have assigned me another box which is also locked, and say it needs to be rekeyed but there is no locksmith to do it. They have no idea when I can receive mail again!!!

If packages somehow got mislabeled she knew our names and was able to process our packages. Recently, I was missing a package (first ever)which had been sitting on top of a garbage pail in the corner correctly labeled but was never processed and it had medications on ice. I'm working with the company now on what to do with them but we couldn't use them. Then I went in on Monday and the store was loaded with packages and my packages had not been processed so I said I would be back tomorrow. Returning on Tuesday, I was told I didn't have any packages and I said your wrong I havd a packaged delivered yesterday. The new manager was nice and started looking for it and again I saw a package sitting on the side by itself. I walked over and it was my package. I showed the manager and he apologized and said "how did that get there "? I know things happen and new people must come in but this guy just is struggling. He's very nice but has packages just scattered everywhere now and the business looks (and is) so unorganized. I hope that Genesys can return regardless of the issues. She was key to this office and I and many others appreciated her ability to have packages checked in quickly and knew us. This goes for several other people who also have boxes there. She knew all the local customers. Something to think about and consider. I would hate to move my address again because of lost packages.

There were three people ahead of me, another person arrived after me, and everyone was standing there holding boxes while only one employee--Owen--worked at the counter. Other employees were clearly visible in the back but did not come forward to help. What happened next was absolutely ridiculous. One woman was looking at stamps, and Owen spent approximately 20-25 minutes giving her what amounted to a private stamp-shopping experience while the line grew behind her. He showed her one stamp option after another and then stood there doing absolutely nothing for stretches of five to ten minutes while she browsed and tried to decide. This was not a complicated postal transaction. She was browsing stamps--something she could have done online or on her own without holding up the only open counter. Owen could very easily have said, "Please take a moment to look through the options while I help the next customer." Instead, he allowed her to monopolize the counter while several people waited with actual packages that likely could have been processed in only a few minutes each. In the amount of time he spent standing there while this woman browsed stamps, Owen could have helped every other person in line. He never acknowledged us, never apologized for the delay, never asked her to step aside, and never called for another employee. He did not even look up. It honestly appeared as though he was perfectly content to run down the clock regardless of how many customers were waiting. Everyone in line became visibly uncomfortable and started making noise in the hope that someone--anyone--would finally acknowledge us. Eventually, an employee in the back noticed the enormous line and came out to help. Meanwhile, the woman continued dealing with Owen, later returned to discuss the stamps yet again, and apparently did not even purchase all of them after wasting nearly half an hour of everyone's time. I understand that working at the post office may not be anyone's dream job, but basic awareness and consideration are still required. Allowing one indecisive customer to browse stamps at the only open counter for nearly half an hour while an entire line waits is inexcusable. Owen showed no urgency, judgment, courtesy, or respect for anyone else's time. I have encountered unfriendly employees at this location before, but at least they got the job done. This was beyond poor service. This office desperately needs better supervision, staffing, and customer-service training.

If your child will go with a stranger they have spoken to for 15 seconds through closed doors without their parents and with their snowsuit and ski boots already on- then they will probably have a good time. Not surprisingly, this caused a lot of stress for my child and a lot of other kiddos. The drop off is in a loud hallway that is full of families. It is very overstimulating. There is a line and a check in desk. Behind the check in desk, that has about 3-4 people working it, there are swinging doors like doors to a restaurant kitchen. You cannot see through them. You are expected to wait in line in this loud hall where lots of kids are crying. You wait in line and then at the check in desk give your kids name. Your child has to walk on their own with the stranger they have spoken to for all of 15 seconds into the room they cannot see into. On the other side they are passed on to another staff member. If your child is upset they will not take them. Also, Your kid needs to be fully dressed to ski with their ski boots on in a hot room in order to enter. Not surprisingly many kids were refusing to do this. After like 1 minute trying to get our kid to go with the staff member We were told we had to go to the back of the line and try to calm our child and try the drop off process again. Again when we got to the front our child was upset. This continued for over an hour as we tried to get our child comfortable with the situation. Our child has gone to various day cares since she was 18 mo old. We do not struggle with drop offs. Drop offs either need to provide a space for the child to get comfortable before parents leave OR you need to make the drop off quick and take the upset child and settle them without the parent. The hour plus of loud hallway with lots of other upset kids was so traumatic. Our child did end up going two days. Both drop offs were horrible. She did seem to have a good time and learn ski skills once she was there. BUT the drop offs were so traumatic that she now has ski school nightmares. I don't think we will be able to have here go to ski school for years now.
