Staff here is unfortunately SO rude and unhelpful. Whichever lady who works Tuesdays at 1:30 is especially nasty and made me feel very uncomfortable and upset. I don't know why everyone gives so much heat to the post office. Yes, they are slow. Yes, the building is not in great shape. Yes, this one post office serves a very large area of the city... but I gotta say, every time I go, the people behind the counter, regardless of the line or the angry people complaining about something- the people who help you always have a smile and a story. Truly, I've had the experience of the friendliest people at this place- asking me how I miss home when I'm shopping packages to Boston or laughing about the weather here in Seattle. Yeah, I wish they were faster and the place was cleaner, but give me a break- it's a federal agency that was nearly decimated last year. This is the BEST post office with the friendliest, funniest workers that I have ever encountered. These folks go out of their way to be kind and helpful and seemingly always have a smile on their faces--even when they've totaled their car on the way to work (which I heard about in the aftermath of our big ice storm last winter) or have been broken into and are still doing business while literally picking up the pieces. This post office is conveniently located across the street from KeyArena and Seattle Center. There aren't any post offices in South Lake Union, so I came here recently when I had something to mail. The state of USPS seems evident in the appearance of this post office. It looks like the best days are behind it aesthetically. Aside from the old decor, this post office is actually pretty decent. There is parking, though I have yet to use it. It also has a self service kiosk in the lobby area. And most important to me is their hours. It stays open until 6 pm on weekdays, which is later than any of the other locations in the area. The interior of the post office is quite small. So if there is a long line, it will surely pour into the lobby. But coming in later in the day, there was no line. I picked up a couple sheets of the new Lunar New Year stamps and was in and out of the post office within 5 minutes. If you prefer to stay away from the hubbub of downtown Seattle, this post office is your best option if you live in the Belltown, Queen Anne and South Lake Union neighborhoods. The biggest selling points for me at this location are the parking and longer hours. read more

I decided to purchased a POBox at the Queen Anne post office just because it's the closest to my home. A few weeks after purchasing the pobox, I stopped by to pick up a package from a costumer, to find my mailbox completely full with the previous owner's mails. I can see a mail-handler through the box and asked if she could take all the mails out of my box as it doesn't belong to me. I was advised to speak with a clerk wearing glasses. While waited over 5-minutes for this clerk to slowly process 3 pieces of envelop from a customer, I asked if I could please drop off a package of all the mails from the previous owner's inside my pobox. He took a look at the stack of mails and said, "oh yeah, I was wondering when you'll come by to pick up your mails. You haven't been here for awhile." - so, the worker realized that the mails were NOT from me, why did they still filled my box with someone's else's mail rather than putting it aside? The point of getting a pobox for my business is to know that I DON'T have regular mails. I stopped by monthly. He has advised me to stop my often to clear my mailbox. I was so speechless that I couldn't waste another minute with small talks and 0 service. I walked away and left a stake of mails on the counter. read more

Even while helping one customer at the counter she can look out at the line and help us from afar, whether that's noticing that a box's alcohol reference needs to be covered up, pointing folks toward more counterspace to pack, or getting people with prepaid boxes to just drop off. Visited on a Tuesday morning and there was a very short line. When I got there there were two agents at the counter, and an additional one came just as I was leaving. I barely had to wait before being helped. The agent that helped me was super friendly and clear; some of the best service I've received at a USPS. The place was well maintained. read more

Post office closes earlier than stated. Clerk talks for 5 minutes to someone not in line, while customers wait in line. Then says she can't take customers because 15 minutes before her shift is over. Door states 6:30 but clerk shuts down at 5:15. If counter closes before office, it should be stated. Having customer waiting in line so clerk can have a personal chat is unprofessional. read more

There is a sign above my mailbox that states "No Name, No Mail". My name is on the mailbox. BIG ASS BLACK CAPITAL LETTERS. Now, I have been living in this apartment for over a year now and I still get mail for some dude I have never met. I try to send it back by writing "NOT AT THIS ADDRESS" and "MOVED" on the envelop and leaving it for the mail-person. It just shows up the next day. This is a typical run-down and woefully understaffed branch of our floundering USPS with one alarming exception: this branch features a middle-aged black male counter worker who deliberately sings at the top of his lungs over any and all conversations occurring in the facility. His insistent caterwauling is so loud that it's almost impossible to answer any questions or to receive any information from his co-workers, making the usually quotidian task of mailing items almost insurmountable. He particularly enjoys falling silent then abruptly restarting his singing as soon as anyone attempts to get s few words out. It's quite a nasty little game, simultaneously exhibiting utter contempt for both the clients AND the job itself. I am unsure how someone who so obviously despises his employers and has so little interest in performing even the most basic requirements of his job remains employed at our collective expense. I am forced to suspect that the federally mandated protection he enjoys as a minority worker gives him the freedom to mock the very idea of polite, efficient customer service as much he likes. After all, why not collect a handsome paycheck from a government dumb enough to treat you with fairness and respect? For that matter, why bother with a paycheck when you can claim that you're experiencing "harassment" from all those uptight folks who hired you and then had the audacity to ask you to perform the professional services you agreed to provide? Sing on, revolutionary brother, sing on! Show us what suckers we are for expecting you to keep up your end of any business contract as a full, equal member of society! I never write reviews and especially a post office I can't expect great service. BUT just had to warn others of the Asian woman working the counter, avoid her if you can. She is AWFUL. She was so rude to me when I showed up right when they opened since I was on my way to work. Then she told me to pack up my own box- I thought they did that for you or at least helped? She told me the packages stuff is "right behind you, and go package it up and come back." She made me feel very uncomfortable about whether my package was sturdy enough and told me I couldn't get insurance unless I re packaged it with different tape that she had just given me. I also asked that it be delivered Sunday and she said yes and then once it was all packaged and ready to go informed me it actually wouldn't be delivered until Monday. I've had fine experiences here with other employees. She should not be in customer service. Update: after this whole experience, my package took a week to be delivered when I paid for two day shipping! read more

I had to come to this post office on two separate occasions. I picked up some postcards at some of the attractions we went to go visit and had to get stamps for them. Luckily, they weren't like the post office in Chicago and had postcard stamps available. This post office is a bit smaller than what I'm used to, but it still have a lot of items for sale - such as cards and other shipping supplies. There are about 2 registers here and they are usually both open if not already occupied by another customer. It doesn't seem to get to busy here, only one or two customers at the time when I went on the two separate occasions that I visited. The employees here were very nice and asked if I wanted any stamps here and showed me the selections available. I saw the pet stamps and got so excited because they had a variety of different pets on there. I only bought one the first time, but had to return again when I found out that the other post office I visited in Chinatown did not carry them. I did not want to use up the only bunny stamp I got, so I had to get a backup! Overall, this post office may seem a little crowded, but you're only there for a few minutes, so it doesn't matter much anyway. After reading all the horrible reviews, I had to add at least one good review to at least try and even it out. I went to mail a letter to Canada. I was given the exact price and estimated arrival time of letter. I paid. The kind lady at the desk chatted with me about spiders and Christmas. She also asked me to choose which international stamp I wanted to use (pretty cool as I was not aware there was such an option). There was only one person in front of me. I had a positive experience and was in and out in no time. I'm not sure what the big deal is about post offices in America. I'm new here but wow, what a bunch of complainers you all are! Good lord, this post office is the WORST and the very reason I only ship flat rate via my account on the USPS website. I work at a hotel and have to ship out a lot of recovered lost and found items and have had to swing by this PO a few times when I've run out of boxes. I just got back from a stop today and was hoping for a quick trip. I had my label already printed out and tape in hand, I just needed a box. I shuffled through the line of 6 or 7 people and made my way to the flat rate boxes...to my complete annoyance, they were out of the size I needed. My least favorite agent, Linda, was busy working behind a "this window closed sign" and the other two agents were busy with customers so I decided to wait in line to ask for a box. Would I have rathered just schlep up to Linda and interrupt her? Sure. But I know how annoyed I get when I'm interrupted so decided to wait the few minutes. As I'm standing there Linda is complaining to another customer waiting in line that she can't reach across the counter to get some boxes of packages so asks her to pass them down to her. 15 minutes pass by when someone else enters the PO and bee lines for Linda asking if there were anymore flat rat boxes. Yes! My in! Linda, obviously annoyed, told her what was out was out. Frustrated, I asked if she had any medium behind the counter and she mutters something. I ask if she could repeat herself and she half yells, HOW FAR?? I told her just to Yakima and she said I shouldn't do flat rate, it's more expensive. I explained I had already printed the label and just needed a box and one magically appeared from behind the counter. I absolutely dread going into this location. I love flat rate but can't stand dealing with their customer service agents. If they would just be a little bit more pleasant I bet customers would be more pleasant and their job would be easier. I decided to get a PO Box to ensure I received invoice payments and most of my mail while I didn't have a steady address for the past few months. I repeatedly received random mail from other people's PO boxes, which super concerning for obvious reasons. The lines are slower than any other USPS I have ever been too, and the employees always seem to have different information regarding policies. 1 star is being too nice. This place honestly deserves none. Not even a participation badge. The only reason these guys are still here, is because they are government. They are terribly understaffed, esp during a time at what I can imagine being the busiest (lunch) which leads to service that is in a hurry to get you out of the building. Customer service is actually a drag to work with as well. You ask them something and they are reluctant to help and even if they say something, they tell you bogus information. "Sorry, we don't hold packages here, it will be at Ballard location". I go ahead and call that location and they tell me they don't hold packages there either. So who holds packages? How do they not know where the packages are? They are a shipping/mailing company and don't know where it is? Yes, I see that it was delivered, then changed to Address invalid but why?! What can I do to correct it? A 'Veteran' employee doesn't know why? that is one terrible veteran employee. When I asked him a question, he VERY sarcastically responded back with, "ya, that's right". Extremely unprofessional. How do you hire people? If you don't like your job, quick and find a new one. Don't make other people's lives miserable. NO sense ownership. Always passing the blame from someone to another, one department to another. How do you work at a company and blame other people in the company? How does that make the company feel? The way these guys send mail apparently, is to look at the names written on the mail box. apparently, if my name is not on the mailbox, they will not send me mail. This might be a USPS thing in general, but what if my friend wanted to send mail to my mail with their name but their name was not written on my mailbox? I won't get it?! What the hell kind of system is that? If the address is there, send it there and I will RTS if it's not mine. The name was written there but for whatever reason, they smudged it off. You can see (though smudged) on the box if they actually paid attention) The phones are terrible. I tried calling and I get this indecipherable tone (ok, I'm exaggerating here, it's actually a busy tone) but how does a business not have multiple lines to handle calls? Oh, I know why, This is not an actually business. It's a shack which they use to proxy mail. Think your mail is being handle carefully? Think again, he was just throwing the mail into the box. If the box is too far and you're too damn lazy to properly place the mail in the box for it to be delivered, have you thought of moving that bin to a closer area for your convenience? No. Why? 'cause you don't think while you work there. I apologize if this review is all over the place, and yes, I was typing what is on my mind at this time. This place has lost both my and my fiance's business. A Shame. I don't even care that they're conveniently located by my apartment anymore. Do not trust their weight scale or their staff unless you want to pay more out of your pocket. We have weighed our wedding invitations through multiple visits, and they have all been DIFFERENT prices each time even though we have IDENTICAL invitations. Difference in UPcharging, of course. My fiance was both suspicious and smart and checked both the Ballard and Downtown locations to verify. .98 each envelope at both locations vs. at QA: 1.70, 1.68, 2.14 int'l, 2.17 int'l, 3 needed customs while 1 did not for the int'l mailings. WTF. 2 out of the 3 int'l that needed customs were going to the SAME effin' address. And when we told them about our verifications at the other locations, they still didn't listen. Multiply each of our invitations x 150 envelopes, and that's a big price difference. They're not taking any more of our money! read more

I recently moved to Seattle two weeks ago and have been staying at my friend's apartment. I had been traveling the week before, during my birthday. I informed my family to send my mail/birthday cards when I arrived in Seattle. My brother mailed my package through USPS and the carrier did not drop it off at the new address, nor leave a slip for pick up. I went to this office and they did not have the package and could not track it. To simplify it, this went on from the first day I landed until today, 2 weeks later. When I arrived and opened the mailbox I saw a mailbox full notice. Understandably so, I went to this post office and informed me they did not have it, it was at the other location. There is no communication between this office with the 9th avenue office of USPS, where I went today. All of my mail and package was there, yet they said it was lost. read more

I tried really hard to keep a positive mind as I walked in and saw the long line. I got there about 15 minutes before the office closed. The line moved very slowly with only two people working the counter. I went to two places to weigh my large box and get a quote on shipping. I ended up back here at the post office to mail it. (big surprise). They said the box weighed almost a pound more than what two other scales said. The clerk measured the box even though it said on the outside of the box what the measurements were. She said that's what the measurements on the inside of the box are so they have to add an inch to the measurement. Weird, I've never heard that before. The final straw was after I paid for the shipment I noticed the receipt had a .44 cent charge on it. I asked the clerk what the charge was for and she said it was because I wrote the address on an envelope instead of a piece of paper or on the box directly. I wasn't going to stand there and argue about the .44 cents since the post office was closed by this time and there were still at least 4 people waiting. I have been mailing packages for many years from many different locations. I have never been charged this before. I will make note to not ever use this post office again even if it is walking distance to both home and work. Pros: The 24 hour shipping center where you can buy postage and mail a box so long as it fits in the slot. The hours are 830-6pm. Cons: The parking situation is awful, the clerks are not friendly at all. One star for being open until 6pm. That's the only positive I can think of. Sad, really. read more

I would've given 5 stars for my interaction with Aileen, but the other woman working with her was rude and went out of her way to make me feel uncomfortable even though she was not the one assigned to help me. Short line, not so bad, until I realize that one of the clerks was loudly describing what goes on on the Kill Floor of a slaughterhouse. USPS Queen Anne is getting an enthusiastic one star from me. Lucky I haven't had to use the Queen Anne branch too much, but the times I have are never pleasant. The parking is terrible and is too tight, even for Seattle. I couldn't wait to get home and write this review after the experience I had this morning. For those of you who watch the Simpsons and Family Guy, you will recall that on Family Guy, Peter Griffin's ancestor Nate Griffin (who is portrayed as black) seeks revenge on white people and slavery by inventing the Department of Motor Vehicles. Also Marge Simpson's sisters are seen getting a lot of pleasure out of making people wait in line at the DMV. The Post Office is the new DMV. These people cannot think out of the box if it saved their lives. Today I was standing in a long line at the Queen Anne location and it was going relatively fast for there being 5 or so people in front of me. THEN, two of the tellers just decide to leave, without saying a thing, and leave a line of 10+ people going out the door, with 1 teller. Now I wonder what they had to do? Go on break? I was always taught to take care of the customers before taking my break. At least that's what all my retail AND restaurant jobs have taught me. Why would you leave a long line going out the door? And they never said a word to us, something like "hey folks, we're short staffed today, blah blah." ANYTHING. Instead two of the guys just started walking around like they were lost, and then finally walked out of the building. Alright then. Not like they will give a damn, but Queen Anne post office, you've lost my business for good. "On some days, we don't let the line move at all. 3 stars for the staff because I think their job sucks but they still smile at me when I come in with a huge shipment to Guam/Virgin Islands/France/Puerto Rico. Neither of us are happy but we know we're going to be in it together for the next 20 minutes getting these customs forms filled out, addresses confirmed and, finally, the boxes out.
