My mom lives out in Joyce and we typically get our mail around 4pm. When we have packages our mailman will put "delivery attempted, no secure location. We put slip in the mailbox" at 9:40am not only is there no slip in the mail box but the mailman didn't even attempt to go up our driveway (we have cameras). I called the usps store because my mom got home and said there's no packages or slips. When I get on the phone with the postmaster he tells me the package is in the facility, mind you it's 2pm and we don't get our mail until 4. So now I think it's easy to say not only did he lie about attempting delivery and not put the slip in our mailbox but he didn't even take the package out of the facility with him this morning. Super unsatisfied with their failed attempts to fix this problem after multiple complaints. To add on top of this this mailman in the past year has ruined multiple boxes of ours because he throws them in the yard without even getting out of his vehicle!!

This is quite a large post office, but that's probably because Port Angeles is quite a large town. I really like that this post office has some very large native murals in the entryway. I assume it is art of the Elwha Klallam Tribe whose heritage center is just a short hop skip and jump from the post office. The post office is at the top of the hill on 1st St which is also a one way so Note to Self: Don't try to turn left in the future. Ai ya!

I probably could find a better adjective to describe the office but when they're so small, all I can equate the post office with is cute. It's about the same level of cuteness as the post office in South Prairie. This post office is right next to the general store/gas station and also next to the town welcome sign welcoming you to the very small Beaver....*muffles laughter*

Places like the Beaver Post Office are one of the major benefits to tiny town life. The staff are VERY friendly and helpful. One of my 13yr olds chores is to go get the mail since its a 3 min bike ride from our house. Well... I forgot to pay the yearly 60$ because it was due right around Christmas and we were out of town for Christmas vacation. So when we got back I didn't remember we owed on it and my sons birthday was almost here so he runs down to get the mail completely excited about the cards he was sure to find in our PO BOX. Poor kid gets there to find out they are holding our mail due to non payment. The employee noticed his look of disappointment because I wasn't home at the time to pay it and she asked him what was going on. He told her its his birthday and he was expecting cards. She then digs through our mail and pulled out all his birthday cards. I thought that was incredibly sweet because she didn't have to do that. I wouldn't have been home in time to go pay it before they closed so she kinda saved his birthday!

It also seems like a connection to a different time; a bygone era when we chose paper over pixels, cute cards over keyboards, and real connection over virtual reality. Yes, a post office is a place where you send and pick up greetings from afar, and for a just a moment, that stamp connects your minds and hearts. Maybe you send a postcard from a trip. Maybe it's a letter from an overseas assignment. Or maybe it's a birthday card, painted with beautiful daffodils, or daisies, or dahlias; just to tell someone that you're thinking of them, you're glad they're doing well, and to wish them the very happiest of everythings. Yes, this post office has all of that charm. Located on "20 Jack and Jill Place," you couldn't ask for a more picturesque place. Perched on the incline headed out of Deer Harbor on Orcas Island, it houses just a few PO Boxes for this tiny community. There are three post offices on the island, actually, and it says something about my affinity for snail mail that I've been into two of them, and been by the third. I actually use the one right up the road from the ferry most often, as I sometimes send cards to friends on my way off the island. Especially today, I'm thinking about this post office and that connection it makes between two people.

After a slow and winding drive through the hills and valleys, I ended up at the post office. This office sits up on a hill overlooking the street below. The post office itself is really cute and well maintained and the workers are really friendly. They kind if give off a small town feel but it's to be expected from the people that live on the island. Really friendly.
