I was expecting staff who were surly, irked, and overall unfriendly. I received Daiquiri (sp?), who was the literal opposite +100 of my first sentence. She was so helpful, cheerful, competent, and amazing that I will tell people who live on the southside of Chicago to go to Niles to handle their post office needs. I am going to post this review on multiple sites so people can get the competent and kind governmental services our taxes pay for, and so that Daiquiri and her co-worker (I didn't work with him, but heard him working very kindly with 2 confused customers) receive raises if this federal administration would allow that in 2025. Very unprofessional experience. Made an appointment to renew a passport and get my son a passport. The lady was throwing around all of my personal paperwork and rushing the process. We live in a building where there are obvious mailboxes. Mail just tossed on the floor in the hallway. Sadly that is an improvement from when they leave it outside the building. I've called to let them know and the response I got was they can't get good help. read more

Using Informed Delivery, I can see what mail pieces I'm supposed to have delivered. I haven't received mail for the last two days and I should have received 8 pieces which include tax forms and utility bills. Last year, on three separate occasions I had mail hold orders totally ignored(even though I received email confirmations for each). This USPS location is totally useless! read more

I called the post office at the Oakton Street location at the 847 number and wanted to speak to an actual person. The automated responses didn't match what I was calling about and, after numerous options prompts, I never got to talk to an actual person. None of the prompts matched what I needed to talk to an actual person. This was quite frustrating! read more

Wow. Can I give zero stars here? Arrived shortly before closing time on a Saturday. Doors were locked and lights turned off. Another person arriving when I did flagged an employee down. When we asked about her locking doors before closing time, she informed us that she "doesn't do overtime" and would be leaving promptly at 3 pm. If you aren't staying open for posted hours, don't post them! If the postal service is looking for the reason they have the reputation they do, look no further! read more

Terrible, Never had a post office this poor in all the places I lived. Constantly loosing my mail and when I reported it the manager said there's nothing she can do about it even though a couple of them were rebate checks from Menards. USPS informed delivery showed the missing mail so I guess this is normal practice here. Would give zero stars if I could. read more

For all the non Niles & Morton Grove residents, if you do not look hard or do not have a GPS you just might miss this USPS location because of its location. If you are like me and drive the Oakton St route you will see it once you come upon Clarence E Culver High School & Niles Village Hall, which it sits directly behind Niles Village Hall. I seem to visit this USPS when it is at its most peaceful times. And it tends to be my last minute weekend life saver when I need to ship ebay items on the weekend due to my work hours, and due to the hours this location is open compared to others throughout Chicago/Chicagoland. I knock on wood when I say this, but I have not had any issues with the clerks nor issues with any of my shippings that I have shipped from this location. My visits are rare, but that's because of timing which makes it more of a last minute resort for me, however best believe I do not mind shipping items out of this location when I'm in route to work on the weekends. Awful experience. Arrived 5 min before closure to buy stamps. There were a couple of folks who had arrived little before. One had a small package. These was a USPO employee in the OUT vestibule (the IN Vestibule was already locked. The woman refused to let any one of us in even though it was several minutes before Closed. She pointed inside at other staff and couple of customers saying that the staff had to leave by 3pm. In other words, she said the 3pm close time did not apply to customers who arrived several minutes before 3pm. I just needed Stamps, so no big deal. I got them at CVS. But at least one of those locked out BEFORE 3pm had a package he needed to get delivered for the holidays. He was out of luck. I would add the USPO employee showed no compassion at all. read more

This post office needs new staff. Every time I go into this post office, the line is always backed up and there's only one person at the window. Almost every time. And the thing that I really am not happy with here is that they have staff who seem very entitled. It sounds like they enjoy putting the customers down. I had one postal worker come to my mailbox and wouldn't deliver the mail because there was no name on the box. So I put the name back on the box and I have to call them to tell them that it's fixed. The person who answered the phone really needs to know more about how to do customer service . I had to make sure that she understood the name is now on the box. read more

More helpful and quicker than the Evanston location. A nice postal lady helped my wife and I mail a certified letter and she took the time to find us a cheaper option that only delayed the letter a day but still have delivery notifications and certification. I caught a pricing error from a displayed sign and what we were charged and she kindly refunded us the difference instead of telling us to kick rocks. Make the government work, for you! read more

Garbage. This dinky office locks its doors at the absurd hour of 5:30 pm. The Evanston location is open until 7 and Glenview is open twenty-four hours! Even the nearby Skokie P.O. half-heartedly attempts to accommodate the after-work crowd by staying open until 6:15. Plus this place is impossible to find with just a street address. It's concealed within a labyrinth of larger buildings in a mini-business park near the corner of Oakton and Waukegan. If I hadn't spied the fleet of mail vans parked behind it, I would never have found the place. read more

I almost never go to the Des Plaines Post office but happened to be running errands in the area. I paid for 2 day delivery of a package out of state. The worker who processed the package said it would take 2-3 days . The tracking info said it would be arriving by the 3rd day. The following day AFTER the package was due, website still said on its way. Later, the info updated and said the package did not even leave Des Plaines for Elk Grove until the 3rd day! What kind of facility "sits" on a priority package for 3 days? Coronavirus is not excuse not an excuse for everything! We have had this going for months now! read more

I mailed about 40 Christmas Cards On December 5th all local Chicago and Suburbs recipients, not one person has received them. This is unacceptable. How do 40 cards go missing? It usually takes a lot to break me, but I am sad to say that it happened here, today, at my local us post office. I came back from vacation last week but never received my held mail. I wasn't too concerned as I figured surely the US Post Office would keep my mail safe, as they promised to and as is the law. How naive I was. Not only is my mail LOST, gone, kaput, they had the nerve to tell me it was delivered to me. I explained that I did not receive it, and all I got was a shrug of the shoulders, oh well, it was delivered. Really? To whom??? As I was starting to freak out, the supervisor walked off, LAUGHING! I send a package international on May 4,2020 with international tracking and insurance. I was told 7 to 10 business days. After 20 i opened an case to track the package. The tracking from the post office is as unreliable as the delivery service for no one, as of July 1 could tell me where the package is and when it will be delivered. As there is a case on this I have been told that i cant file an insurance claim on the package, for they say that it is not lost, I cant have it returned to me as i was told that it is in delivery mode. So my $60 + in postage is a total fraud as their service is as unreliable as can be Next time i need something delivered, i will call FEDEX and pay the additional $10 for reliable service. By the way, when you call USPS customer service there is at least an hour wait time, but they do call you back to tell you that they know as little as you do read more

They have the worst service in the world I swear. Bad customer service. I came at 10:00 am, and there is only one lady at the counter working on passport section. There were 4-5 people in my line waiting for stamp but no one serve us. Then the lady had her passport done take a long time, and she asked if the worker can take the next one while she filing her documents. The worker said NO. Then, one of the customer spoke up asked if that worker can call someone else to take care this long line, guess what she replied? " she supposed to know that she need to be here, I don't have to call her" oh wow, what kind of customer service is that. That is super rude and ridiculous. ZERO STARS! This location is a prime example of why the post office has the financial problems it does. It's run like a govt entity (I know, it is one), but from 1970. No efficiency, no educated workers, everyone is lazy, unknowledgeable, rude, flat our horrible employees. This post office makes up rules, no other USPS location enforces. Such as that ALL international packages MUST be handled at the counter, regardless if you've filled out customs, have correct postage. This is BS. Maybe this also contributes to their long lines and ticked of patrons. Every other USPS location allows you to throw postage paid/forms filled out packages to get mailed without further inspection. Recently I was here, granted lots of the customers are senior citizens who may not be up to speed with how to mail what, what is cheapest way, however the USPS workers are even worse. I heard one yell across the room to another worker "Is Hawaii international, or do I charge domestic?" Are you effing kidding me? You work at the post office, make $30+ an hour, you don't know where Hawaii is? LIttle did I know the same idiot would be helping me. I had a package to Amsterdam, to which she "ax" me if I know where that is. She thought it was a south suburb of Chicago...no, sadly I'm not kidding. What level of experience is required to work for USPS? Maybe its race based, because there was not one white person there. I hope the post office bankrupts, surely no private company would exist if it pulled this crap on patrons. If you must use USPS, go to the Morton Grove location, the lines are shorter and people know where Hawaii is. read more

Without discounting the previous reviewers' experiences, I don't think they give a complete picture of this post office. I'll concede - no one here will win Miss Congeniality. One employee I dealt with had no patience for me when I filled out the wrong form to ship a package. He was brusque, rude - straight from the Jerkstore. While waiting a few times in long lines, I've observed some general ugliness. Woe to you if you get in the wrong line, or are unprepared when you get to the counter. Unapologetic workers will send you away - usually to the back of the line. I've seen people shout, hurl obscenities and threaten workers in frustration. (ironically, it's usually during Christmas that things sink to the nadir). That said, I rarely ship packages. You can skip the line by buying stamps from the automated machine. And once you get past the demeanor of its workers, marks go up considerably. Good points: mail service is consistent, mail is delivered in a timely manner (depends where you are on a route & who the carrier is. We usually get mail btwn. 11-1:30). To my knowledge, nothing sent to me has every been waylaid or stolen. After reading Yelp talk threads, I see that bad postal service seems the norm in other zip codes. Niles shines by comparison. For example, consider this timeline of my latest Neflix delivery. Mon. 3 pm: drop off finished Netflix DVD in post office drive-through mailbox Tues. 9:50 am: receive email that Netflix has received the DVD Tues 6:30 pm: receive email that Netflix will ship new DVD for Wednesday delivery Wed. 11:30: retrieve new Netflix DVD from my mailbox (This quick Netflix delivery is a regular occurrence, BTW). So the employees are surly, but apparently they do their jobs. This is an outstanding post office if you can just avoid face-to-face interactions. read more

This is a terrible post office!! The lines are insanely long here. Expect to wait ten minutes or more. And the employees are slowww. I wish they would pick up the pace a bit, it would really make a difference in wait times. Oh, and if you don't fill out the form correctly, they'll make you re-do the entire thing and you'll have to go back to the end of the line (no matter how long you waited). The worst... I stopped in one morning to mail a small package. There were two clerks waiting on customers and two people in line ahead of me. So, why does it take 30 minutes, before my business is transacted? As I walked out the door, I counted 14 very frustrated people in line. One clerk spent the entire time I was there addressing something related to passports. He kept asking the other clerk questions. This interrupted her from taking care of her customer(s). It was a casual exchange of coworkers with no apparent concern for the growing line of dissatisfied customers. I've shipped many packages with UPS and FedEx and was never treated so poorly. For the umpteenth time, I lost a shipment delivered by UPS. Proof of Delivery from UPS shows it was received by Champs a day after shipment from Amazon on October 6th. I've been to this location every day to get my shipment but even when it was received by Champs, nobody could find it. Friday, I requested to talk to Champs, supposedly the supervisor, but I was told by the Asian clerk that he was busy. I said I would wait till Champs was free but no luck. The clerk gave me the phone number to call Champs and after 6 or 7 times trying to contact him, the phone just kept on ringing and then turned busy, I just had to give up. When I placed the order and lost it the first time, Amazon was kind enough to send a replacement and sent it UPS via next day mail. How can I get my shipment? This is a medical necessity for me. My arch nemesis. The Asian man that works there. Every time I went there he has pissed me off. Today was the last time that I ever go there. First, he complained that there was a line of 4 people at 9am (it's your job to help customers and it's a post office of course it will be busy) and then he threw my debit card in front of me when I reached my arm out to take it from his hand. I can't believe he still has his job. Rudest person I've ever encountered in a customer service position. The other employees there are ok but that man is the one I always got stuck with. I truly wish I would have read these reviews before stopping in and mailing our tax returns from this location. We paid for certified mail and over a week later, our returns still have not been delivered and the tracking says that it was "accepted" at this post office. That's where it stops! WTF? Where is it? We had to wait in line a really long time and they have a very archaic system where people who want a passport go to the right and people who just want to conduct regular mail business go to the left. We had to have been there at least 20-30 minutes. It was like a Third World country. The guy who helped us out was ok but not really particularly helpful. Why do they have only two people working there? Now we have to file a complaint and who the hell knows what the IRS will do to us. I went in today to ask about renewing my families passport. This was the first time I went in for it (bc my parents always took care of it) and did have quite a few questions I wanted to ask. The man that was helping me was kind at first but came of rude at the end. He said to me "i'm sorry there are more customers I have to help." Meaning I cant help you, please leave. Hello? Am I not a customer? Yes there was a line behind me and there was about 15 minutes left before closing but I WAITED in line for about 20 minutes to ask some questions. Just because you're closing soon doesnt mean you can rush through with the customer you're with just so you can close on time. It's not going to hurt you to stay 5, 10 minutes after your original closing time. Never am I coming here again. read more
