The only drawback here is that the customer service window is only open a half day that being in the mornings. But there is never a line waiting for service. At most there might be one person ahead of you. They have PO Boxes for rent here. The lobby is open 24/7 for access to the boxes and outgoing mail slots. The Martinsville Post Office rents boxes too but the access is limited to daylight hours. A do-it-yourself postal kiosk would be helpful here. You can buy stamps from them plus weigh packages and get labels with the correct postage amount. But I have seen how high maintenance those machines are so maybe it was an experiment that never panned out.

The ruts fill up with water and mosquitoes. I have bought bags of dirt and grass seed several times and filled it in. I have put up flags and little wire fencing. I have called the office to voice my complaint, I have driven down to the branch to do the same and nothing. So, yet today, it was done again. I saw the delivery person and asked him about it. He said "yea, I got stuck in the mud...not sure what you can do, maybe fill it in with sand or something" Are you kidding me? it's part of the yard. So, up to me to keep spending the money to fix it and watch it get torn up again. Not!!!!

A local librarian told me I had to visit the historic post office in town, and I'm glad I did. The…read morebrick building was built in 1935, constructed with New Deal funds, and is still mostly in original state. It's like taking a step back in time. A mural by Alan Tompkins entitled "Arrival of the Mail" is the first thing I noticed. The 1937 mural depicts people excited and anxiously awaiting the distribution of mail at a time before postal delivery. The mural was commissioned by President Roosevelt to support artists. Tompkins was an art instructor at Herron in Indianapolis. He lived to 100 and painted prolifically during his career. The mural has water damage and was restored by A. Raemaekers in 1974. The post office's lovely oak trim and brass postal boxes are original. Framed local postal history and a heartwarming story of "Tiger, the postal dog" hang above the post boxes. Photos of the building's construction hang on the wall. An addition to the facility was added in 1974 to the south side of the building. Today, the building is part of the Martinsville Historic District. The building is accessible, a ramp has been added. There is limited parking in front. If you're in Martinsville, a visit is recommended.

I have lived in Danville Indiana for eight years. However, nine months ago we moved into a new neighborhood and in those nine months, my mail has been wrongly delivered no less than 10 times! Yesterday I went into the post office to inquire about an item that was marked "delivered" but it wasn't in my box. The male supervisor looked it up and saw where it was delivered to by mistake (AGAIN!) and contacted the mail carrier in the area who was *supposed* to go get it from the wrong house and bring it to my house. Guess what? STILL no package today. It's to the point where it's ridiculous when it comes to wondering if I'll get my mail or not. My various neighbors have been pretty good about bringing mail to my house that was delivered to them but IT'S NOT THEIR JOB! I truly hope that the delivery people in my neighborhood can do a better job but I don't have high hopes. I don't know what my next course of action can be. I'll have to research if I can file a complaint with the USPS about all of this if it continues.
