This location has self service machines that can be used if one wants to skip the line, or if they come on hours when the counter is closed.

The staff is friendly enough. Over the years I can recall only one rude interaction. It was years ago, when the price of stamps went up and I came to get some 2 cent stamps (remember those???) just to wait in line for 51 minutes and then be rushed along by an employee with an attitude. That was about the time I decided I didn't need to come to the post office unless it was necessary. To be fair, they do their part to assist in that and keep the volume down. There are multiple mail boxes on both Elm and Locust, they have a self serve kiosk inside, the tax forms and guides are in the main walkway come January and you can get Forever stamps online, at the grocery store or at some ATM's. I think the multiple boxes on each side is what I utilize the most and is probably the smartest choice in keeping people out of that parking lot, which fills up quickly. That, and since they only lock up the service counter area, you can come and go as you please during off peak times and avoid a full parking lot. However, there are times when I need to ship a package or collect mail that I had on hold, when I return early from a trip. During those times this place does the trick. My most recent trip inside was when I had to ship a package to a friend in the Peace Corp. FedEx didn't ship to that particular corner of Ethiopia so I had to slow boat it. It''s definitely not cheap to use the Post Office for larger boxes, even their flat rate ones, I prefer to stick with envelopes and bubble mailers when I use them. However, they do send everywhere and were helpful with the paperwork. Mostly I avoid coming in because the lines are long. If you need to come in for something special then be prepared to spend 30-40 minutes here. If you only see one person at the counter, it will take much longer, but there are usually two people working and sometimes three. I am giving them three stars because I've only seen a different rate of service, speed and friendliness at tiny Post Office's in small towns. For the size of Denton, I'm pretty sure this is average and expected, perhaps a little higher than expected. Lord knows I've definitely received worse service in other towns, so I'll take 'only helpful when necessary' and 'occasionally indifferent' over 'trapping you into a circle of hell' any day.

I had a package delivered last month that I wasn't able to sign for, and had scheduled for redelivery but due to a glitch it didn't work and my package seemed lost. I tried calling USPS but had no luck getting through or finding my package. I finally made the decision to go to USPS in person to see if it was still there or if they could help me find it. I had been having a bad day, but the woman in the package delivery area who helped me was genuine and kind and had amazing customer service skills. I didn't have my slip anymore and I thought it would be a problem but she assured me it wasn't an issue at all, got everything put in, and found my package in a timely manner. A pleasant experience at the post office may seem like an odd reason to warrant a 5 star review, but in an environment where people tend to be stressed, annoyed, and apathetic, those who exude positivity and care truly stand out. The post office may not known for their customer service skills, but her positive attitude and dedication to help even though I wasn't prepared myself really helped brighten my day. Thank you!

I have had plenty of problems with the Carrollton US Post Office on Josey Lane over the years. But…read morelet me warn you about another way for them to pull the rug out from under you. We've used medium sized Priority Mail boxes for years because we could depend on the fixed price for shipping the box, regardless of the weight. Sure, the rate goes up nearly every year. You can depend on that, too, but the current fixed rate is $21.95 with delivery in 2 to 3 days (or maybe 3 weeks since they sometimes miss the target). We picked up a few boxes, from the lobby, at the same place the post office staff makes them available. We did the addressing, filled it up and asked a friend to take it to the clerk and pay the $21.95 postage. To our surprise, the cost was $34.25 because we used the wrong medium size priority mail box. Did you know there are 2 slightly different medium size priority mail boxes that you could use? I kid you not. It could cost you an additional $12 to send it if you pick up the wrong one. We've never seen the wrong box before. Make sure the box you select has small red lettering that says "FIXED RATE" for the lower $21.95 rate. If it says "MAILING BOX" instead, you'll probably pay more, like we did ($34.25). I can't say for sure that the postal employees intentionally switched the boxes on us customers but the 2 options definitely look too much alike. We won't get fooled again.
