Isnt it so strange how much people talk about everyone in La Jolla being so stuck up however this post office in comparison to the crap post office in Pacific Beach is honestly no comparison? Seriously, this review is not about the Pacific Beach Post Office but in order to make a point about this post office I need to remind the reader about how much the PB Post Office BLOWS. Contrary to what they say there, you actually ARE allowed to use their tape. I know this because I saw someone using Priority tape to seal a priority box at the LJ Post Office and inquired about whether or not it was a special privilege solely reserved for the person using the tape at that moment. IT IS NOT A SPECIAL PRIVILEGE PB JERKS! Anytime you are mailing a priority box, contrary to the jerks at the PB Office, you do NOT have to buy a roll of tape, you are just able to use their priority tape. Thank you for that clarification. Also, the ladies that work at the LJ Post Office never look like they absolutely hate anything and everyone on the planet. Occasionally the PB people are in a good mood but you never know what youre going to get. I dont like uncertainties such as that! And the PB Post Office is always out of multiple things, whether it be certain stamps, or the super cute 'Greetings from Southern California' flat rate boxes. WHY? YOU ARE SO BUSY. WHY ARE YOU NOT ALWAYS FULLY STOCKED ON POSTAL ITEMS?? Overall, as much as I love PB, I love La Jolla that much more. This pleasant post office always has every item you need and is just wonderful. It's too bad that I dealt with the female supervisor/manager today because up until today I've always been very happy with the service and the way I've been treated. The supervisor could have spoken to me in a more polite manner and would've been nice if she could try and smile once in awhile instead of acting like I killed her dog when I asked if I can borrow some scotch tape to tape down a label. I was not going to use it to tape up a box or envelope, just to secure the prepaid paper label !!! I had no idea that was against policy and I understand she must abide by the policy but it would been nice for her to offer a one time scotch tape use since I didn't know and had to drive 40 min in traffic to get there. I couldn't buy regular packaging tape either bc i didn't have my wallet! She was just not very accommodating or polite. read more

Whats the deal ? You go in, you wait in line and you get your stuff sent out. Why all the hate . Its a simple process. Maybe Im not one of those complicated customers that takes 30 minutes to send out a single letter . Reminds me of those idiot customers in front of me at the North Park Albertsons that takes forever to pay for 25 items in the 15 and under express lanes. The post office isn't the most exciting place to be but it's clear that all the employees work hard and strive to get customers in and out quickly. Having been a regular at this location for the past 2 years, it is clear management is experienced and will go the extra mile. One time my package was missing the suite number and was going to be sent back, but the manager got on the phone with the branch closest to my apartment and was able to retrieve it. The manage is always pacing the floor, offering to take packages that can be dropped off. Sometimes there is a longer than preferred line, but on busy days such as Monday's it makes sense. I had a package with a blood sample that I had sent to San Diego. It got delayed, I was so worried as I am pregnant and this blood sample was for identifying the gender of the baby. Panicked, I filled out a contact form. Juan immediately contacted me to let me know where my package was, and that he had even checked with the laboratory to make sure my blood sample would be okay with a couple days delay. Then today it was finally delivered, and again Juan called me to let me know it had arrived, and congratulated me on my pregnancy. WE NEED MORE POSTAL WORKERS LIKE HIM!! Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Associate behind the counter, Janette, was absolutely no help, had no patience, and a poor attitude. There was no one in line behind me and she refused to assist me in getting materials together so I could ship my packages. An older male associate was kind enough to come around the counter and help me, also mailed a package of mine she previously turned away. Thank you to him for providing good customer service. UPS Sure Post handed off package to La Jolla Post Office for delivery. Allegedly they tried but did not leave delivery notice. In tracking package, tracking number available from UPS does not match USPS...had to call vendor to translate number. By the way, La Jolla PO on Wall Street has disconnected their main number. The other service facility NEVER answers its phone. Spend way too much time on this and it is unacceptable in this day and age. read more

Hey its the post office whaddya expect? The staff is very friendly and helpful. I wish they had a stamp machine, it would cut the long lines for people who just want 1 stamp! You can also set up and appointment here to get your passport. I think the reason why there is a long wait at times is due to the customer. They don't have the proper paperwork, labels, packaging or incorrect postage. I use the post office everyday for work purposes so I came ready every time. If people would just do a little research before they come then the rest of us wouldn't have to wait in long lines! read more

Worst place I have ever seen in my life. I need to pick up once parcel for my friend. Very rude male Asian agent, who did not even brother to speak to me. Leave me for over half an hour without even trying to help me; very impatient when I am trying to talk to him. Just keep saying 'tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow', just want to kick me out. Rude customer service! First if you don't want to be interrupted maybe actually have pens or working pens at the tables. Lady gave me such an attitude cuz I "interrupted" her to ask if I can borrow a pen. And with a nasty tone telling me "ma'am I can't! Go to the other tables they should have one." Well like I said none of the tables had one if they did it's either broken or not working. It only takes a second to grab a pen and lend me one. So I walked up to one of the empty counters and used one there. Lady looked like she didn't even want to be there and hated her job. Very slow service here as well. read more

I would like to know if what they did is right or even legal: I went to the La Jolla post office, located at 1140 Wall St, La Jolla, CA 92037-9998. I intended to send to certified letter with my own stamps, stamps that haven't been used but that I had removed from an envelop (as I thought it would be obvious, since they weren't branded with the Post Office ink), however the clerk Jannette (number 29) refused to accept them even after I explained that to her the situation above, she said that if I wanted to use them I should glue them to the new letter and put them at the outside box and she could not certify my letter. I asked to talk to her supervisor, Quang Ho, and after explaining to him what I had explained to her; he also refused to accept my stamps and even implied that I was reusing the stamps (which I didn't think was possible, since all my letters came with black ink lines on top of the stamps, unless they were from charity institutions and/or business stamps, which in any case are not the ones sold to the public.), he also told me I could wait for the general manager, who would be in an hour in a half. I asked him if he was calling me a liar and he simply nodded his head, them I asked him to give me what he said in writing and he gave me a hand-written note saying: these stamps looked like they come from a big brown envelope unconcealed. We don't reuse them. It had his signature and a number (204 B) and his title, supervisor. I felt diminished and discriminated. It is not my fault if employees send letters without inking them, but I'm in my right to reuse stamps if I decide not to send a letter and happen to have the stamp in another envelope. read more

If there was ever a business that needed modernization, this is it. Wow, the building is a throw back, I get it but the staff, the inside, the equipment, the service, the product is so out of date. Nothing in here moves fast, including the lines. There is absolutely no modernization or self service areas. Coming from GA, it was a shock to see how dated this whole experience was. Very bad customer service. I went to drop some packages to post office,they have shipping post labels , so I just drop them where you are supposed to leave packages that postage is already paid. BIG MISTAKE. ..2 of my packages 1 week later tracking number doesn't show were received by post office. I called today to see what Can I do about it and june answered the phone, I explained the problem and her answer was well if post office didn't scan your package no much you can do about it. Terrible service! Gene Earl Carpenter is a grumpy old man who took his problems with a previous customer out on me. I simply went in to rent a PO Box, I had all the correct paperwork, I am a La Jolla resident and he had the nerve to say ' he didn't feel comfortable with it' and so he refused to rent me a PO Box! It was the most absurd thing I have ever seen. He refused to assist me, talk to me or even consider renting me a box. This was my first time to the post office, as I am a new resident and I was appalled by the horrendous service! I then spoke to his manager and they insisted on checking my background and calling references! Are you kidding me? I'm a young, quiet professional. There is no way they treat all their customers this way. This matter is far from over, the police are currently looking into Gene Earl Carpenter and the matter. I had a great experience with the employees there.. They held my mail and then extended it when I couldn't get back for another couple of weeks. They even were so kind to put it at my front door so a friend could put it inside for me.. They promised to call me on my cell if I didn't return when my mail box was full. My service provider sent me an item overnight from NJ for a cost of $32.00. It arrived at 8:00 AM this morning (9/17/2014) in La Jolla. It is now 3:00 pm and yet no delivery has been made. I checked with FEDEX and for about the same price, they claim they deliver right away once the package arrives at the airport of the destination. The time is now 3:15 PM and yet the La Jolla Post office does not answer. This is disgraceful. This exceedingly poor performance starts at the top and our legislatures do not act as business people and terminate those incompetent soles whose job it is to keep their word. The US Post Office is no longer the pride of our nation. It is indeed a profound disappointment. read more

This is one of the worst post offices I've ever been in. I dread coming here as the windows are so slow and the lines are continually so long. The Asian manager once helped me out immensely last time I was here but he isn't always here. There isn't even a self service machine which would be extremely helpful. So far the staff have been less than pleasant and not even apologetic to the long wait times. read more

This post office handles mail from UCSD, where I work. One package I mailed from work was never scanned or delivered, and one package had a long delay. On 12/17/13 I mailed a Priority package from this post office, and it took a week to get to Texas. read more

Ho is amazing, he has helped me on numerous occasions fix problems or sort things out. Having a post office box here is a good experience.

What can I say. I've come here 5 times in the last year and 3 of these times the attendant made up some excuse to not be able to help me. This last time was the final. I came in to mail about two dozen invitations and I was told this could not be done due to the small bump made by a bow on the cards. Perhaps if I had not gone to another USPS location yesterday to have several of the same invitations mailed without any hassle, this wouldn't have been an issue. Rude rude rude! (see Jillian R's review. same thing happened to me.) I walked in at 10am, no line and one woman behind the counter. I waited for her to look up. When she did, she just stared at me and finally said, what do you need. I tried to explain and she talked over me telling me to get a priority envelope and fill it out. She moved on to the customer who came in behind me. I was still confused, wanted to know pricing options so the Asian man who is often there helped me. Meanwhile my boys ages 4 and 2 are running in circles. I tried to stop them but just wanted to get my pkg ready so I could stop being passed over and get out of there. Jeanette rudely tells me to control my kids, they could hurt an elderly customer. At this point, another woman customer also attacks my parenting. We are the only people there. I look at Jeanette and ask if I've done something to offend her. She replied, not yet with a rude smirk. When I was ready I asked to be helped by the Asian man as I did not want to work with Jeanette. If her goal was to ruin my morning for some reason, mission accomplished. I walked in with a simple transaction and left having been treated so rudely and scolded about my kids for no apparent reason. Just completely unnecessary and inappropriate from a customer service standpoint. I cannot recall the last time I was treated so rudely in a customer service situation. She should be moved to a back room as she can't seem to master the appropriate behavior for dealing with customers. read more
