The people at this Post Office are hard working and pleasant. In particular, Lillian, Serena, Dorothy, David and Tara to name only a few. They are a training ground and get workers transferred out frequently only to start training again. We have been doing business with them for 40 years, myself for 11. What these newcomers to the islands write is the frustration of impatience. They do not understand that just because your order may say delivered, that does not mean that the thousands of packages have been sorted out for a yellow slip of notification for pick up. The frustration is often the result of improperly addressed mail which is the fault of the customer and not the Post Office. They really do work hard and deserve to be recognized instead of vilified. This post office is such a mess. They are always losing our packages. They even just sent one back to sender when we had a clear travel notification on it. You're better off dealing with the crowds in Kailua Kona. As soon as I have an address that can accept mail I'm leaving this place. One lady at the front is really nice which is the only reason it's higher than 1 star. Truly can't believe I have to pay for my packages to go missing or be sent back. read more

The post office is quite lacked because my package arrived like a very long time ago but still never have put my package out for me to claim for two days after it should have been in my P.O box. I am quite disappointed with this P.O because the packages I need are very important and I need them so they better work the heck up! read more

Worst post office I've ever seen, and that's saying something, cuz there are some pretty lousy post offices out there. They made me wait an hour and a half for my package, then they come out the back door to tell me to wait another hour. In the time it took them to tell me that they could've just grabbed the package and given it to me. What the hell? If you have a choice, which, sadly, I don't, steer clear of this wretched place. read more

Acess to to ur own locked postal box is a plus.. N no twiker can steal anything from ur box too. Get some houseless peeps lying around at nite wen I get there around 2330. Once set her things on fire too. Crazy. The clerk in the office area is always friendly n cheerful even tho she has 2 jobs. read more

So my Priority Mail package containing needed parts gets missent from Honolulu to Kealekakua Post Office last Monday morning. The Kealekakua Post Office finally get around to sending it not to the Holualoa Post Office where is was addressed to but all the way back to Honolulu and that was last night Wednesday. The Priority Mail package sat in Kealakekua for more than two days! So, it took it two days to get to Hawaii from Iowa. It took it three days to get from Kealakekua back to Honolulu??? Now, I get to see if it will make it back to The Big Island by Friday? Total incompetence on the part of a usually competent postal service. It is another sign of classic Federal employee failure to do more than the basics to get by. And by the way, the Holualoa Post Office is staffed by the best of the best. I truly loathe giving such negative reviews. We have lived in this house since 2006. Each post office is unique and the operation truly depends on the individuals that work in it. The first mail lady we had was very nice. She didn't like where our mail box was so my husband dug another hole, poured cement and moved the box to a place more suitable for her liking. The second mail lady was the kindest, also very hardworking, dedicated US postal service worker. About 3 maybe 4 yrs ago, we started getting deliveries by a new person. I understood our usual carrier was ill. The new mail delivery person seemed to have issues with delivering parcels of any size, tiny to larger than the mailbox. Some are left out in the rain on the ground, on the grass, in the street, driveway, and sometimes, in the mailbox. I have a photo album just for strange places USPS leaves our pkgs. More than once, all we found was a mushy, disintegrating cardboard box, left in the pouring rain, the contents completely soaked. It's very hard to reach anyone in USPS office by phone. We have complained, along with Amazon investigating, for years. We've called the USPS Post Master General's office and on and on and on. I have not wanted to the delivery person to get into trouble, just do the job. I've asked for the person to get more training, to use a phone and call us, to call us before pkgs leave the post office, to scream or honk while at the box - nothing works. Anymore, I believe just do the job is asking far too much. I can barely walk, even across the house. My dear hubby is 83. Why should we have to keep on complaining, trying to track where on the planet our orders are and spending hours on the phone with everyone except someone who can and WILL fix this issue? After an hour on the phone with Amazon today, 30 min in a chat, and endless ringing in the Kealakekua post office, we learn that my husband can "try the Captain Cook post office tomorrow." This is the unending nightmare of the Kealakekua Post Office. read more

I've been trying to reach this post office for FOUR MONTHS by phone. I'm on the mainland, trying to reserve a PO Box for my upcoming stay. The phone number (808) 322-1656 RINGS AND RINGS AND RINGS AND RINGS AND RINGS.... until the call disconnects. I've literally called every week, several times at all hours of the working day and never ONCE has anyone in this PO answered the phone. When I get there in January, I will take a photo of the staff behind the counter there, collect business cards from everyone who works there, and mail it with a letter to the USPS Federal Govt, cuz this kind of service is simply unacceptable. I decided NOT to open a PO Box here cuz reading the one honest review below, I can see, they also lose packages. I've even called the Kailua-Kona USPS - which answers the phone first or second ring - and asked if this Kaleakekua PO is actually "there"? They say it is, but the office is renowned for never answering their phone. read more

Unlike the horrific, mind-numbing shame-fest we experienced at the USPS contract store in Keauhou Shopping center, the personnel at this branch of the Post Office were personable, professional and helpful. After being humiliated by the poor excuse of a human manning the Keauhou center for the gross and improper use of a shipping box, we decided to try another branch. The people here accepted our packages without question, insults or screaming, which we very much appreciated. Do yourself a favor and try this branch first if you need assistance with shipping boxes back home. read more

Irritated! Horrible customer service. So I went there because UPS dropped the package I was expecting there. Which is weird because yesterday they delivered the first package that was ordered with this one at my house. But for some odd reason they couldn't deliver that one? Anyways, I went there to pick it up saying I had a package from UPS waiting for me there. And immediately the clerk/whatever you want to call her, told me they don't get packages there unless I have a PO Box there. And I said well I don't but UPS said it was there. With an attitude she said alright I'll go check and ask my boss but we don't have nothing here. So I went inside and talked to another clerk (much nicer and friendlier). She asked for my ID. Which btw the other clerk didn't even bother to get my name. Just left rudely. The clerk I talked to inside who looked at my ID said oh okay we have it. Then some manager I guess looking lady came out and complained that I'm lucky they didn't ship it back. In a rude way now, not nice. And I was like okay. Then she went on and on about blah blah I don't have my house set up as a mail recipient. Which is fine, okay my bad. But please explain to me how UPS was able to find my house yesterday, deliver part of my order and not this one. Mind you I have picked up packages that wasn't able to receive at my house at this post office before. But guess what? I left with with? My package. That the First Lady said WAS NOT THERE. Just assumed wasn't there didn't even bother to check like the friendly clerk inside. Wish I didn't have to give this place a one star rating. Not pleased. read more
