Everyone at that location has been very helpful and considerate of my situation and needs! My only complaint is one that they have no control over and that is the cost of the rental boxes. First impression was based on when I had to do an address change. 2 weeks after living in home didn't get any mail. I contacted mainland USPS office and they said they had no record! When I went back into local office all they said was "I must've missed a step sorry" how is that even allowed!!!!! Finally got it squared away. Today I went in I already printed my shipping label, grabbed a flat rate envelope and VERY NICELY asked if she (blonde woman) minded taping it. I am still shaking with anger at being treated like a ditch digger or homeless vagabond. Today May 15th around 2pm checking my mailbox it had a yellow alert card (pick up parcel at the counter) and a small envelope and a very large package stuffed in so hard where the boxes are all loaded with mail by the staff, I could not budge this package and this was the third time this happened!!! I needed assistance to get it out from the service side. I approached the middle counter where the male counter attendant was standing and dealing with another customer. He has a terrible attitude I have noticed ever since I first came in contact with him. Rude, short tempered, brusque , ha saw I had a yellow card and he snatched it out of my hand when I informed him about the overloaded box. He stormed off to the back and I followed him outside to the box where he impatiently pulled out the package he yelled at me that that the yellow notice card was the big package... I told him I had come in the day before and once again there was no parcel for the yellow card that was in my box.... we were shouting at each other at this stage and I left shaking in rage!!!! This man has NO PLACE working with the public!!!!It is not just me, I see how short tempered and rude he is with other customers as well.... VERY BAD ATTITUDE!!! But the post carriers in the Kapaa branch are lazy, uncaring and will purposefully misplace, ignore or deliver your mail as late as possible if you complain. Here's my story. I ordered an item that did not fit in my mailbox. Fine right? So what would you expect? The carrier to bring it to your door and leave it on the porch right? Wrong. Here are the excuses I got: 1) you have dogs. Answer : my dogs stay indoors. 2) they can't reverse the truck. Answer: you don't need to reverse. Just walk it down. 3) no. Now they will leave my boxes anywhere in my neighbors yard without her or my permission and even then won't notify me of the delivery. Kapaa post office. A post office is a post office is a post office, right? In some cases that is true. In others, like when you are visiting a post office on one of the least-trafficked islands in the most southern/western state in the US, there are different rules that can apply. One of those rules is that people in Hawaii are almost eternally cheerful (wouldn't you be?) and that goes for postal employees as well. The lady behind the counter was much nicer than anyone of the curmudgeons I'd find in my local store. Another rule is that you can't predict the weather here, and when it instantly started raining between the car and the post office, I thought my postcard was ruined. Nope, she said. A couple shakes and some spot drying and it was back to normal. The building itself is your typical nondescript government building, but at least the experience is a good one. read more

Love coming to Kapaa Post Office. Staff is friendly and very helpful and well-informed in regards to shipping and various products/services.

This is quite possibly the post office with the friendliest and nicest staff. It could also be because it's a stark contrast to my local post offices in Maryland and now Illinois. I bought coconuts at a tourist trap shop and needed to mail them. I didn't realize until I got to my hotel room that no pens would work to write on them. I needed a permanent marker. We went to the post office because I wasn't sure where to find a marker and thought they may have one I could buy. To my surprise, I wasn't told to buy one, but was given one to use. The clerk rang up the postage and asked if I needed extra insurance. She kindly suggested probably not given what my postage already included. I returned the marker, paid my postage and collected the receipt to track my coconuts. As my husband and I left, we both commented in unison that this was the kindest and nicest experience we have ever had at a post office. I wish I had gotten the clerk's name. The only thing on my receipt is clerk number 25. She deserves an award. She outshines every employee I've ever encountered on the mainland. Maybe the mainland clerks should take some pointers from this clerk's aloha spirit. read more

Worst PO in my life. They need a new Postmaster. Terrible deliveries, inconsistent times, wrong deliveries to my box (and my mail delivered wrong house all the time). Sent a package that was returned the next day for insufficient address but they would not give me the $40 refund. They never should have taken my money and sent the package if insufficient address. A fact another worker admitted there. But the postmaster refused. They need a new postmaster there very badly. Terrible!!! read more

They don't seem to have time to look for my medication package which the tracking says is in the post office. It may get sent back if they don't locate it before sending it back. But too busy apparently. Might be a 2 week delay getting my meds if they send it back! Not very customer friendly place including and especially the postmaster Ilene. Not feeling the love here I went back few hours later and Kayla took pity on me and went in the back searched and came pack with package in 6 minutes. I feel like post office experiences are just dependent on how crowded it is when you happen to come. I came on a Saturday morning and there was no line. Parking is super easy as it's in a shopping center. They take credit cards. They have stamps and boxes. No complaints except that there was only one person working the cashier so I can imagine it gets slow when it's super busy read more

Thank you Kapaa post office! I received a package from you that I was afraid would get sent back. I appreciate it. It did not have my box number in it. I asked about it and was told I needed a tracking number. I came back with the tracking number and was told to fill out a form and they would call. I got no call so I went back to them. After standing in line they brought the form back to me and showed me I had the wrong tracking number. They where right but I gave up because I ran out of patience so I never provided the right tracking number to them. I just assumed they would then return the package to sender. I was pleased however to find that they attached a personal note and delivered it to my box. I was prepared to be disappointed instead I was very pleasantly surprised! Thank you read more

This post office has been offering the community of Kapaa, Kauai extremely poor service for the past two years. I've been on Kauai for 16 years and never had a problem until the past two years. What the heck is going on? And it's not COVID related, it is an attitude of "I just don't care" at this post office that is causing problems. I tried to speak with the Postmaster and she wouldn't discuss my issue and WOULD NOT even give me her name or her USPS email so that I could send her a formal complaint regarding my packages the USPS has lost, etc. I didn't realize a CIVIL SERVANT could refuse to give a customer her name when it is pertaining to the post office where she is the Postmaster? Something fishy here people. This post office is actually costing me money now so I'll continue to try to bring attention to this horrible service through the proper channels. I have filed a formal complaint with USPS. I know there are several online forums discussing the same poor service. Maybe it is time to start a local petition to bring about changes. The community of Kapaa, Kauai deserves better. Lazy carriers who won't deliver the mail to your door if they need to walk more than a few feet. They have no care for their customers and aren't taking the USPS promise very seriously. If Kyle is the only one working and you need to do anything other than drop off a letter, you might as well turn around and come another day. By far the rudest and most unprofessional customer service I've ever had. Got back to my car and told my friend about it and she asked if it was him, and sure enough this guy is rude to everyone.
